BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Mick Jagger is reportedly paying a 5-figure monthly sum (thought to be around $15,000) to NYC-based ballet dancer Melanie Hamrick once she gives birth to his 8th child. The 72-year-old has been dating the 29-year-old on-and-off for the last 2 years, with the ballerina unexpectedly falling pregnant during the Rolling Stones’ tour of South America earlier this year. The aging rocker’s latest offspring is due in December. The legally-binding financial settlement applies until the child turns 18, meaning the mother-to-be will bank an estimated total of $3.3 million.

★ Filmmaker Jon Favreau is hopping aboard Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming FOX-TV series set in space. The “Iron Man” director, who also helmed this year’s animated hit “The Jungle Book”, has been tapped to direct the 1st episode of “Orville”, as well as take on a behind-the-scenes role afterward. Created by MacFarlane, the 24th century-set show follows a subpar spaceship in Earth’s interstellar fleet. The 13-episode series begins production in January.

★ And a Lou Pearlman TV series in the works. The disgraced former manager of Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC passed away August 19th in prison where he was serving a 25-year sentence for a huge Ponzi scheme. Magnet Management and publishing company Conde Nast have acquired screen rights to a recent “New Yorker” article entitled “We Live In the Pop-Culture World That Lou Pearlman Created”. IS THIS THE NEW THING?
There’s a new social media craze that’s left some people scratching their heads. It basically involves people posting black & white selfies on social media along with the words ‘Challenge Accepted’. They also ask friends to take photos of themselves by tagging them in the comments section. The message most people are writing on their posts is “Let’s fill Facebook with black & white pictures to show our support for the battle against cancer”, but there’s some confusion because others are posting black & white images with no explanation at all. It’s thought the ‘challenge’, which uses the hashtag #challengeacceptedblackandwhite, first became popular in India at the start of the month. (Maybe someone just found the B&W camera setting on their phone and starting playing around?)

NEVER LEMON AT THE BAR:
You should never, ever have a slice of lemon in your drink. Here’s why ‘ice and a slice’ is a bad option – research has found that up to 70% of lemon slices served in drinks at restaurants have potentially harmful microbes on them. Philip Tierno, author of “The Secret Life of Germs”, says that his tests on lemon slices always come up with evidence of contamination from human skin, respiratory secretions, and/or fecal matter. That’s because – before a slice appears on the rim of your glass – several people are touching the lemon, handling it, cutting it, placing it in a container, then picking it up at a later point. Lemons are rarely washed before use in drinks, and hand-washing is not practiced very well by many bartenders. (Stick to olives … picked up with tongs.)
