Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Pamela Anderson and her new husband, movie mogul Jon Peters, have split less than two weeks after their secret wedding. In a statement, Anderson said: “We would be very grateful for your support as we take some time apart to re-evaluate what we want from life and from one another…we have mutually decided to put off the formalization of our marriage certificate and put our faith in the process.” News of the split comes just eight days after Anderson posted her first photo of she and 74-year-old Peters as a married couple to her Instagram Stories.

★ The Los Angeles Lakers took the court on Friday for the first time since Kobe Bryant’s tragic death, and after thousands of fans were given mementos honoring the legendary star, many took to eBay to sell them. Shortly after the Lakers lost to the Portland Trailblazers, multiple listings began appearing for the Kobe Bryant tribute shirt that was given to every fan who attended the game at the STAPLES Center. Bidding quickly skyrocketed, in many cases reaching more than $500. Although many were interested in getting the coveted giveaway, others thought the online sale was tasteless.

★ Andy Cohen has Kelly Ripa to thank after she spotted a suspicious mark on his upper lip. Cohen says that there was a “dot” on his lip that he had “for a while”. According to him, “Kelly came up to me and goes, ‘What’s happening with your lip? Get that checked out today. That is skin cancer.’” Cohen did get it checked out and found out that it was malignant melanoma. He had the spot removed, and now has to visit a dermatologist twice a year and be “extra careful” about how much time he spends in the sun.

★ The creator of “The Crown” has found the “perfect time and place to stop.” Peter Morgan has revealed the Netflix hit will wrap after the fifth season. Although Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s exit from royal life and the scandal surrounding Prince Andrew’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein have dominated headlines in recent months, those storylines will not make it to The Crown — Morgan says it was never the intention to cover the royal family up to the modern era.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Billie Eilish — is not happy about YouTubers who’ve been impersonating her video stunts, and she’s letting her feelings be known. She posted a screengrab of an offending video with the caption: “Please stop doing this…It is not safe for you and it is mean to the people who don’t know any better. You make me look bad.”
• Harry Styles—His Miami concert with Lizzo on Friday night was scrapped minutes before it was scheduled to begin when a massive storm hit. Pepsi, which was sponsoring the show, tweeted an apology, explaining that authorities had ordered “a mandatory evacuation in Miami across special event venues.”
• K-pop — Amid growing concern over the spread of the coronavirus, many K-pop acts are canceling or postponing shows in Southeast Asia and taking precautions to protect concertgoers. Prominent events, including three stadium shows of GOT7’s world tour set to be held in Thailand and Singapore, as well as overseas events by Taeyeon and NCT Dream, have been postponed, while others, like TWICE’s Tokyo fan signing events, were also canceled.
• Madonna — has pulled scheduled London concerts on Feb. 4 and 11 to allow for “time to recover” between shows. The 61-year-old’s ongoing health woes have forced her to cancel gigs in cities including Miami, Florida, and Lisbon, Portugal in recent weeks, plus the first night of her planned 15-date residency at the London Palladium last Monday.
• David Byrne – His “American Utopia” will end its Broadway run on Feb. 16, but fans will be able to see a filmed version directed by Spike Lee. The production is based on his 2018 tour in support of the album of the same name, and features a narrative arc built from songs from across his entire catalog, both with Talking Heads and as a solo act.
• Elton John – After opening an Australian concert on Saturday by remarking to fans about how hot it was, he was forced prematurely halt it due to a sudden downpour of rain and hail. The onslaught occurred roughly 95 minutes into his set today at Rochford Wines in Yarra Valley, causing damage to instruments onstage. Fan-shot video shows John being helped offstage.
• Dan + Shay and Dustin Lynch – are among the headliners for this year’s “Boots and Hearts”, the largest annual camping and music festival in Canada. The Aug. 6-9 event near Barrie, ON will also feature Eric Church, Jon Pardi, Brothers Osborne, Meghan Patrick, Alessia Cara, and Andy Grammer, with more artists to be announced in the coming weeks.
• Morgan Wallen – He and Julia Michaels appear in a new music video for Diplo’s ‘Heartless’, filmed last week in Nashville. The original version of the song featuring Wallen has already gone platinum.
WAY OUT INN:
NASA announced last week that it has hired a company to build the first-ever “commercial launch destination”. That would be a space hotel. For the super-rich. The first-ever space hotel would be built by Axiom Space and attached to the International Space Station. The goal is to “help grow an economy” in low-orbit earth, which I believe means “to make money”. Axiom Space says it plans to launch a “research & manufacturing facility, crew habitat, and large-windowed Earth observatory to form the ‘Axiom Segment’ of the ISS,” starting in the latter half of 2024.” Accommodations would include a “nest-like cabin” with unobstructed views of earth and “High-bandwidth communications back home,”
but no gravity. How much would it cost to stay there? They’re thinking about $50 million. Each.
(I have an unobstructed view of earth here. For free!)
(From NASA’s viewpoint, it’s probably not the kind of place you want to have a mini-bar!)
(Doesn’t this just have the words “space horror thriller disaster movie” written all over it?)

ESPRESSO EXPRESSION:
It turns out that we’ve been making coffee wrong the whole time. Or at least making espresso wrong. That’s according to a new study in the academic journal Matter. The authors claim coffee makers — both at home and in cafés — are using too many beans and too fine a ground, which is resulting in “wasted raw material” and inconsistent flavor. An espresso shot using fewer beans and a coarser ground will help eliminate waste and create more uniformity of flavor while maintaining the strength of the coffee from a finer ground, according to the group of scientists and mathematicians who did the study. They call for brewing protocols which would use 5 fewer grams of coffee per shot (to 15), and claim if their directive were accepted, it would have a “significant economic impact” and create a “more sustainable coffee-consuming future”.
(Does that mean it’ll be cheaper?)
(Actually, the people who are making coffee wrong are the ones who make their own little ‘island’ of sugar in there!)
(So not only do we SAY espresso wrong, we also MAKE it wrong?)

SYNCING UP THE CABLES:
European parliament has voted in favor of requiring the manufacturers of iPhone and Android (and many other devices) to make their phones use the same chargers. The resolution, which could become law this summer, says that “Continuing fragmentation of the market for chargers for mobile phones and other small and medium-sized electronic devices translates into an increase in e-waste and consumer frustration.” And they’re right. Think about all those old cables sitting in the junk drawer at your house. That’s the case in millions of homes all over the world. But still, it seems that every time you get a new device, you need a new cable or two, because you need an extra, and don’t have “that one” at home. It is believed that the proposed legislation would mostly affect Apple’s “Lightning Cable”.
(Wait! If they go to a universal charger, that’ll make all the ones I’m using now obsolete!)
(So what you’re telling me is that iPhone and Android don’t use the same chargers now?)
(How about they also come up with a cable that lasts longer than two months?)

SCIENCE-BACKED WAYS TO HAVE A HAPPIER MORNING:
(Even if you’re not a morning person…)
➢ Get things ready the night before: Lay out clothes, program the coffee machine, make your lunch, pack up your work bag. You’ll be amazed how much more smoothly your morning goes. (I’d be less-late, but I’d still be late…)
➢ Do some quick stretches: Try lying in your bed for a while and stretching out your muscles, then slowly rise and do more simple stretches. Studies show that even small amounts of physical activity can make you feel good. (I get all the stretching I need trying to pull on my socks!)
➢ Indulge in the bathroom: Instead of hopping in the shower and hopping back out, make it a mini-spa experience. Use a nice shower gel, body lotion, and invest in fluffy towels. Add some whale song for the ultimate in gentle waking. (It was at this point that I realized that this person does not have any other family members…)
➢ Eat, even if you don’t feel like it: Eat something tasty. If you don’t like early eating, have a smoothie or veggie juice. (Is this another thing I have to prepare the night before?)
➢ Plan something fun for later: Having something to look forward to later helps to chase away the early morning blues. Plan a favorite meal, arrange to get coffee with a friend, or send a sexy text message to your honey. (Great. Even MORE things I have to do tonight…)
(I could do every one of these things, and I’d be happy as anything…then the dog would puke on the carpet…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Sobeys has become Canada’s first national grocery retailer to remove single-use plastic bags. Sobeys is encouraging shoppers to bring their own reusable bags, but they also sell them 25 cents each and paper bags for 10 cents. The move to reusable options means 225 million bags will be cut from circulation every year. That’s nearly enough to wrap around the world twice.
