A who’s who of recording stars can all be bought by anyone with a fat cheque and private jet, from Bob Dylan to Christina Aguilera, Robbie Williams to Gwen Stefani, the Rolling Stones to 50 Cent. In fact, within the music industry, only 2 acts are known for taking a stand and refusing these lucrative invitations … U2 and Bruce Springsteen.

• Bird-brained idea? Comedian David LaChapelle apparently suffers from apocalypse paranoia. LaChapelle has bought a former nudist colony on Maui and is hoping to turn it into a bunker for all his friends, such as Pamela Anderson. Now there’s way to get chicks … wanna see my bunker?

• Hot-head model Naomi Campbell has reportedly handed over $390,000 in an out-of-court settlement to actress Yvonne Scio, the former friend she allegedly assaulted. Scio claimed Campbell pushed her against a wall 2 years ago in Rome, scratched and punched her face repeatedly, and verbally abused her. With the agreement, the charges against Campbell have been dropped. Someday somebody’s gonna hit this lady back!

• David Beckham’s staggering $250-million move to the LA Galaxy soccer team wasn’t supposed to happen until AUGUST after his contract with Real Madrid runs out. Beckham also reveals that he called his ‘good friend’ Tom Cruise before accepting the mega-deal.

• Reports say doctors have told actress/party girl Lindsay Lohan that she’s suffering from liver damage and could die if she doesn’t stop drinking soon. It seems the appendectomy she underwent a couple weeks back was routine, but what doctors discovered in her blood work was not. In addition to high enzyme levels, the levels of protein in her liver are so low her doctors couldn’t believe she was still walking around.

• Late actor Jerry Orbach is the new face of New York’s organ donor program. Orbach died 2 years ago but donated his eyes to 2 women who were going blind. His widow Elaine wonders if the recipients have an overwhelming desire to watch “Law & Order” or maybe sing “42nd Street” all of a sudden.

WHAT WOMEN WANT:
What do women really want? Here’s what an online poll of some 3,600 females reveals …
• More women want to be in a loving relationship than women who want to be in an honest one.
• More women desire a man who’s financially secure than a man who’s faithful.
• More women want an attractive and strong guy than one who doesn’t cheat.
• However, more women want a man who makes them laugh than a guy who earns lots of money and is financially secure.
• More women want an intelligent partner than an attractive one.
• On the other hand, intelligence receives fewer votes than kindness and caring.
• And contrary to what we hear in beauty pageants, these women want virtually everything more than they want world peace.

THE PRICE OF HAPPINESS:
It seems money may be able to buy happiness after all – but it costs nearly $5 million, according to a recent poll. That’s the amount the average person would need to buy their dream home and vehicle, and have the vacations and lifestyle they aspire to. But don’t hold your breath – stats show It would take someone with an average income about 94 years to earn this amount. (Wanna be happy? Shoot low: an apartment with heat … a car that starts … clean underwear.)

HOW TO BE ZIT-FREE:
Our Western diet may be one reason up to 95% of North American teenagers suffer from acne, according to a new study in the “Archives of Dermatology”. The study examined the skin and lifestyle of the residents of Kitava Island in Papua New Guinea and found absolutely NO acne, even among teens. Scientists say that’s because Kitava islanders are physically active, and eat a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet of mostly roots, fruits and vegetables, which keeps their insulin levels low. It’s thought that high insulin levels stimulate oil production in the pores, thereby causing zits. (You mean greasy fries cause pimples? Who woulda thought?)

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
• A “Ladies’ Home Journal” poll finds that  69% of men and women in a romantic relationship say they’ve phoned their partner just to say “I love you”. (Right after they did something they felt guilty about.)
• A University of Gothenburg poll of 185 Swedish psychologists reveals that fully 75% of them admit to having fantasies about their patients. (“Thanks doc, but I’ll just skip the couch and stay here in the chair for today’s session.”)
• A “New Woman” survey of women finds that although many 20-something women profess a strong need for the love and affection of a man, 42% say they ‘don’t understand men’ and 27% express ‘cynicism/mistrust’ of the opposite gender. (Fortunately, the feeling is mutual.)
• Even though statistics show otherwise, 55% of respondents in a travel survey think airplanes are NOT the safest way to take a trip. (And they only surveyed commercial airline pilots!)

BS AMAZING FACTS:
• Testing has shown that fully 100% of banknotes in the Republic of Ireland carry traces of cocaine. Scientists at Dublin’s City University were said to be ‘surprised’ by the findings.
• “LA Times” reports that up to a third of divorced people in California are probably still legally married due to ‘Do-It-Yourself Divorce Kits’ which were filed incompletely or not finalized.
• Talk about ‘lost in translation’. There are clothing stores in Shanghai, China called ‘Really Cold – As Long As You Love Me’; ‘Like A Blackman Dancer’; and ‘I Okay. I Show Bags’. Hard to believe but they aren’t meant to be funny.
