BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
[***UPDATE***] ★ Pete Davidson is going to be a dad! People reports it has confirmed the 31-year-old actor/comedian and his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, are expecting their first baby together. According to a source, the pair have been living together for a few months, splitting their time between Davidson’s house in upstate New York and a rental home in Brooklyn. The couple, who have been together since March, made their red carpet debut at the 13th Annual Blossom Ball at the Pierre Hotel in New York City in May.

★ “Harry Potter” actress Emma Watson has been banned from driving for 6 months after she was caught speeding in her Audi S3. In addition to the license suspension, she was also fined £1,044 ($1,400 US). It was Watson’s 4th driving offense in less than 2 years, according to the Daily Mail. She received 3 points on her license for the  July 2024 speeding offense, in addition to 9 points from other driving offenses in 2023 and 2024.

★ Ariana Grande and Josh Gad — will lend their voices to the film adaptation of “Oh, The Places You’ll Go.” Based on the Dr. Seuss classic, the animated musical will be directed by “Wicked” filmmaker Jon M. Chu and Jill Culton. Plot details haven’t been revealed, so it’s unclear how the film will take inspiration from the beloved picture book. It is scheduled for release March 17, 2028.

★ Darth Vader’s iconic lightsaber prop is set to go under the hammer for the first time, with an estimated value of up to $3 million. The pivotal duelling weapon, featured in the 1980s films “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return Of The Jedi”, will be offered at a live auction in September. Hosted by memorabilia auction house Propstore, the sale coincides with the 45th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back.

★ Joel McHale is giving an update on the highly anticipated “Community” movie. He told Parade: “We will be making that movie. We have the money now, and that is happening.” McHale said that now, the biggest obstacle is the actors’ schedules, and “Thankfully, everybody’s really busy, and that’s great…We just have to get the schedules to sync up.” McHale starred on Community from 2009 to 2015.

★ Billy McFarland is no longer the owner of FYRE Festival, because someone snapped up the rights to the brand on eBay — and they only needed a little over $245K to do it. FYRE Festival’s rights, IP, brand trademark and social media assets were sold Tuesday. FYRE Festival epically flopped in 2017, and inspired a few documentaries. McFarland hyped up the music festival as luxury glamping in the Bahamas with celeb guests and big-name acts, but he and his investors didn’t have the cash to follow through. He ended up spending time in prison. In 2022, Fyre Festival 2 never even got off the ground.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Alex Warren — In response to Drake’s comments about the TikToker’s hit ‘Ordinary’ keeping Drizzy’s ‘What Did I Miss?’ from #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, Warren posted on IG Stories a tongue-in-cheek video where he dances along to Drake’s ‘Nokia’. Nokia also happens to have never reached #1, peaking at #2 in March.
• Miley Cyrus — Despite dropping a new album, she has no plans to hit the road – and said her touring days are likely behind her for good. Why? She explained that staying sober is a major priority in her life, and touring doesn’t exactly support that. She hasn’t done a full-fledged tour since 2014.
• Pharrell Williams — has become a knight in France after being presented with the country’s highest honor. He was one of 589 people to be named knights of the Legion of Honour. Williams was recognized for his public and cultural service to the nation.
• Eminem — A new documentary about him is headed to the big screen. AMC Theatres will show “Stans” in more than 135 USA locations from Aug. 7-10. The Eminem-produced doc opened the London SXSW festival earlier this year, and is inspired by his 2000 song ‘Stan’, about an obsessive fan who takes his admiration for the rapper too far.
• Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath – Their “Back to the Beginning” farewell show raised more money than any charity concert – ever. Billboard reports the July 5 event raised more than $200 million for 3 charities, surpassing the amount raised by FireAid and Farm Aid combined. It was watched by 40,000 ticketholders and 5.8 million individuals online.
• Bryan Adams – Yesterday, he dropped the new song ‘A Little More Understanding’. He had announced it by sharing a video noting that “incredibly” it’s been 40 years since he released ‘Summer of ’69’, and saying: “And we’re still out doing this every night.” After a clip of the new song, he said: “We’re going for another 40 years, OK? OK.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2s4z6ejc
• Chris Janson – is giving fans a sneak peek at the title track of his new album “Wild Horses” in a new video on social media.  The song drops tomorrow, and the full Wild Horses album will be out Aug. 1. It’ll also include his current hit ‘Me & a Beer’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3rbheab7
• Thomas Rhett – Tomorrow, he’ll release a new collab with Jordan Davis. Rhett posted: “I told y’all we were adding new music to my album About A Woman all summer long!” The second set of new tunes, out Friday includes ‘Ain’t a Bad Life’, featuring Davis. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yj7ph35v
• Zac Brown Band – has announced 4 special shows at Sphere Las Vegas. What makes them special? The group will perform songs from its new album “Love & Fear” at the shows. The new record drops Dec. 5, the date of the first Sphere concert. Other performances are set for Dec. 6, 12, and 13.

SHOOTING THE BULL

OFFENDING TRENDING:
⇒ There’s a new beauty trend going around TikTok, and yep — it involves actual Sharpies. Influencers are using permanent markers (usually red or coral) as DIY lip liner, then layering gloss or lipstick on top. Commenters are loving the bold look and low cost, asking what “shade” of Sharpie was used. But not everyone’s sold. One TikToker admitted, “My lips weren’t burning, but they definitely dried out—and I could taste the chemicals.” Dermatologist Dr. Brooke Jeffy says the trend is risky. Sharpies contain chemicals like xylene and toluene (also found in paint thinners and gasoline), and the brand itself warns against using them on skin. (But you’ve gotta love it when you can pick your beauty supplies from your company’s office supplies!)
⇒ The latest viral trend, “freeze branding,” has health experts seriously concerned. Inspired by livestock marking, it involves pressing a freezing metal brand—cooled with liquid nitrogen—onto human skin to create a permanent design. Dermatologist Dr. Andrea Suarez (aka Dr. Dray on TikTok) is urging people not to try it, warning that “you are not a horse.” While it’s relatively safe for animals, on humans it can cause full-thickness burns and lead to serious infections like cellulitis, which can result in sepsis or even bone inflammation if untreated. (But you have to admit: It’s definitely “on-brand”!)

EMOJI UPDATE:
To celebrate World Emoji Day today, (***See ‘Reasons to Party’, below***) let’s have a look at the most-used new emoji. (And yes, ‘emoji’ is the plural of ‘emoji’!) Last year, a total of 8 new emoji were approved by Unicode as part of Emoji 16.0, and put into use shortly thereafter. They are: Face with Bags Under Eyes, Fingerprint, Splatter, Root Vegetable, Leafless Tree, Harp, Shovel, and the Flag of Sark. According to Emojipedia’s site data, the most popular of these 8 new emoji are as follows:
1st place: Face with Bags Under Eyes
2nd place: Splatter
3rd place: Shovel
Meanwhile, Emojipedia says these are the most-used emoji overall, as of this month, in order:
1. Red heart
2. Checkmark
3. Sparkles
4. Fire
5. Loudly Crying Face (the one with tears flowing down its cheeks).
And by the way, anyone can submit an idea for a new emoji. The Unicode Standard, which is responsible for creating new emoji, proposed 9 new ones in November, including a Sasquatch and an orca. Unicode will decide in September which emoji to add next. To submit your idea, go here: https://unicode.org/emoji/proposals.html
(But let’s face it, now that we have ‘Root Vegetable’ and the ‘Flag of Sark’, what else could we possibly need?)
(As a parent, I’m still waiting on the ‘Stepped on Another Lego’ emoji!)

DAIRY-AIR: THE ‘CULTURE OF COOL:
A British scientist says he has come up with an unusual way to cool your house: yogurt. Yep, yogurt on windows. In a recent experiment, Dr. Ben Roberts from Loughborough University applied Greek yogurt to one of 2 identical test houses. The result? The yogurt-coated house was up to 3.5°C (6.3°F) cooler on hot, sunny days. How? The yogurt forms a thin white film that reflects sunlight, keeping heat out. Dr. Roberts admits he was “pleasantly surprised” by how well it worked — especially since it started as a just a quirky idea. And, he says, don’t worry about the smell: it’s gone in 30 seconds. While it is true that lining your windows with tinfoil blocks even more heat, the good doctor points out that yogurt is cheap – and effective. He says his experiment “shows the importance of treating windows and heat shielding solutions…to reduce overheating.”
(Or you could just get curtains…)

DID YOU KNOW?
This November will mark 50 years since the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior, claiming all 29 crew members and becoming one of the Great Lakes’ most haunting tragedies, as immortalized in the Gordon Lightfoot classic ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’. To honor its legacy, beginning July 26, a relay team of 68 swimmers will complete the ship’s 411-mile journey from the shipwreck location to Detroit—stage by stage, swimmer by swimmer. Along the way, they’ll pass off small iron ore pellets from the same dock the ship left in 1975. The swim ends at Detroit’s Mariners’ Church, where the bell will ring 29 times—one for each life lost on that fateful day. LINK: https://www.edmundfitzgeraldswim.org/

• “Peach Ice Cream Day” (aka ‘Fuzz Ripple’). Who cares why? Gimme some! Most ice cream makers only make the stuff during summer.
• “Yellow Pig Day”, a mathematician’s holiday (is there such a thing!?!), celebrating the special qualities of the number 17. Like what? One example: It is the sum of the first four prime numbers – 2, 3, 5, and 7. The occasion has been celebrated since the 1960’s, mainly on college campuses, and by mathematicians.
• “Tattoo Day”, a celebration of body art; everything from the artwork decorating the proud owners of tattoos to the thousands of studios that continue to crop up each year. (These days, are you a rebel if you DON’T have a tattoo?)
• “World Day for International Justice”, to recognize the emerging system of international criminal justice. July 17 was chosen because it is the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute, the treaty that created the International Criminal Court.
