Good Morning, Sheetheads!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Justin Timberlake was arrested on DWI charges Monday night in Sag Harbor, NY, police have confirmed. He was detained overnight, and arraigned and released without bail yesterday. He has been charged with 1 count of DWI and cited for running a stop sign and failure to keep in his lane. His next court date is July 26. Sources told TMZ that cops pulled over the former *NSYNC member almost immediately after he got behind the wheel of his car following a night out with friends at a hotel in the Hamptons. He is currently in the midst of his “Forget Tomorrow World Tour”.

★ “Modern Family” ended in 2020, but cellular connection is the tie that binds the Dunphy-Pritchett families together — sort of — in a new commercial for WhatsApp, featuring the sitcom’s stars. Unveiled yesterday, it features Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson reprising their roles. In it, Ferguson’s ‘Mitchell’ character realizes the family has left him out of a group chat. Bowen’s ‘Claire’ tells her younger brother that they didn’t include him because of the “blurry photos” and “weird likes” they receive from him, because his phone isn’t the same brand as theirs. Later, his spouse ‘Cameron’ tells him: “We may have cut you out from here,” pointing to his phone, before moving his hand to his chest, and saying: “Never from here!” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yxxat8tc

★ Halle Berry lit the Olympic torch before making her way down part of the Croisette yesterday morning. The Oscar-winning actress stood on the red steps of the Palais des Festivals during the Cannes Lions festival, and posed for photos before strolling down the famed boulevard with the lit torch in an all-white, athletic-looking ensemble. She waved to fans who stood on both sides of the street as she made her way to her handoff point, where another person took up the torch for part of the relay event. The Paris Games begin next week.

★ The superhero world isn’t for everyone. Jude Law says that he was considered for the role of ‘Clark Kent’-‘Superman’ in Brett Ratner’s axed superhero movie in the early 2000s, but he ultimately passed on the major career opportunity. In a podcast appearance, he said “This is true. Yeah. And there was a process of flirtation going on”, but he resisted, “because it just felt like [off]. Law said that despite the fact that he had roles in both “Captain Marvel” and “Fantastic Beasts”, it just felt like “a step too far” when producers had him try on the Superman suit with the hopes of changing his mind.”

★ Jordan Peele is ready to return to, presumably, scare you silly. The writer/director’s 4th film now has an official release date of Oct. 23, 2026. It will be released, once again, by Universal Studios, which has handled all his movies so far, and produced by Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions. No logline or additional details have been revealed, but judging by its release date a few days before Halloween…

SHOOTING THE BULL
‘SURE’ IS NOT A SURE THING:
First, it was the “thumbs up” emoji that started getting a bad rap as “rude” on social media. Now? By all means, NEVER text the word “sure”, because apparently, it’s loaded with hidden meaning. Apparently, using that word in a text, as a reply to pretty much anything can be interpreted as being “short”, “dismissive”, and can reveal a certain negative attitude. This all came to light in a Huffington Post article, which told the story of how New York City comedian Isabel Steckel recently called out her brother for using the offensive word, and posted their chat on “X.” It shows that she asked her brother if he wanted to hang out. After he replied: “Sure”, she threw it back at him, saying, “If you’re bringing a ‘sure’ attitude, then let’s not do it.” In the article, Steckel said the word’s meaning varies depending on the context, so replying “sure” to an errand or task is fine, but it sounds bad when inviting someone to spend time with you, unless it is followed by an exclamation mark. Her post soon received over 11 thousand likes, and people agreed that “Sure” is the worst one-word answer – to pretty much anything. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/rce7457h
(How about “soytainly”?)
(Do agree? What one-word answer is even worse?)

WORKING OUT – AND WALKING OUT:
❑ Exercising outside could be more beneficial to you than an indoor workout, a new study suggests. A team at Texas A&M University analyzed data from prior research regarding the benefits of outdoor exercise compared with indoor workouts. The studies revealed a mix of benefits from outdoor physical activity, including improved mood and brain function, better social interaction, greater enjoyment of exercise, and possibly even less perceived exertion. (Ask them again in January, though!)
❑ If you wish there were a way to burn more calories while walking, try changing up the length of your strides. New research has found that striding in an uneven cadence can be a game-changer for your fitness. A University of Massachusetts Amherst study looked into how non-uniform strides affect a person’s metabolism — a calorie-burning mechanism — during walks. It was found that varying the length of your steps can increase metabolism by 1.7%, which the researchers called “a modest, albeit significant role in the metabolic cost of walking.” (Like a walk in the park…on the way home from the pub!)

PROFILING YOUR DATING PROFILE:
What are the most important traits that daters are looking for in a potential spouse these days? According to a poll of 2,000 adults in Britain who are looking for a mate, the most-desirable attributes are emotional intelligence, the ability to get along with your friends and family, and, of course, financial stability. Interestingly, 79% of respondents to the survey said they are searching for a partner who has certain qualities that they don’t have, as a way of making a more fulfilling relationship, which can lead to personal growth and discovery. But that “pie-in-the-sky” stuff aside, here are the rest of the top-10 most desired qualities in a potential mate, following emotional intelligence, getting along with friends and family, and the money thing…
4. Happy to have relaxing and restful and ‘lazy days’
5. Animal lover
6. Active listener and wants to hear about my day
7. Knows what they want
8. Stimulates me intellectually
9. Likes children
10. A good sense of style
(All I can say is thank God no one is looking for a partner who can cook!)
(Am I the only one who said they’re looking for someone whose dad owns a gas station?)

HYDRATION MYTHBUSTING:
Because ‘tis the season…
Myth #1: You need to drink 8 glasses of water per day. How much water you need depends on your daily needs, based on exercise level, how much you sweat, age and medications, plus your diet and local heat and humidity. A good goal is to drink half your weight in ounces per day. (Maybe the reason you’re so thirsty is because you did exactly that with beer yesterday!)
Myth #2: Water is the only thing that hydrates you. Along with fruits, vegetables and other water-based foods, other non-alcoholic drinks can help hydrate you. Some studies claim that milk is better than water. for hydration.
Myth #3: Coffee is dehydrating. The caffeine in coffee is a mild diuretic. But since you take in more liquid than you lose while drinking coffee, it doesn’t have enough of an effect to lead to dehydration, and may also inspire you to drink more water.
Myth #4: Thirst is the only sign of dehydration. While thirst is one of the first signs of dehydration, other warning signs can include dizziness, weakness, fatigue, headache, dry skin, dry mouth or fatigue. Also amber-colored pee.
Myth #5: You don’t need to see a doctor for dehydration. Symptoms that require medical attention include: dizziness that makes it difficult to stand or walk, low blood pressure, fast heart rate, fever, lethargy and confusion. In severe cases it can lead to seizures, shock or coma.
Myth #6: There’s no such thing as drinking too much water. Over-hydration can cause major problems. Water toxicity happens when someone drinks water too fast, throwing off their electrolyte balance — and some people have even died from it. (And on that positive note, happy hydration!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Not only are plants living things, researchers are now saying they also possess a form of intelligence. Findings published in the journal Plant Signaling and Behavior shows plants like goldenrods are “smart enough” to detect other plants nearby, without ever making contact. They are also smart enough to adapt to threatening situations, such as herbivores eating them. The Cornell University researchers even found that some species have the intellectual capacity for flexible, real-time adaptive responses. While plants do not have a brain, they do have vascular systems, which some biologists say are similar to our central nervous system, and can be used to process information. (Smarty-plants?)

• “Garfield the Cat Day”, honoring Jim Davis’ fat cat comic strip on the anniversary of its 1978 debut in newspapers. (Big fat hairy deal…)
