BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Preparation is officially underway for the next ‘James Bond’ movie. Denis Villeneuve, the Oscar-nominated French-Canadian film-maker, has been enlisted to direct the next ‘007’ chapter, Amazon MGM Studios has announced. The “Dune” director said in a statement that he is a “die-hard James Bond fan” and intends to “honor the tradition” of the franchise. Amazon didn’t give any hints on the next actor to play James Bond in the announcement. Daniel Craig stepped back from the role following the 2021 release of “No Time to Die”. No word on when the next Bond film will be shot and released.

★ Kim Kardashian is being eyed to star as the villain in an upcoming live-action “Bratz” film in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Not many details have been released, but this isn’t the first time the popular dolls have made it to the big screen. “Bratz: The Movie” was released in 2007. Kim is also not the first Kardashian to collaborate with the brand. Her sister Kylie Jenner launched 2 Bratz fashion dolls in 2023 as part of the Bratz x Kylie Fashion Dolls – Day and Night collection.
-People
★ Aaron Sorkin is developing “The Social Network Part II,” the follow up to the Academy Award winning movie “The Social Network.” Sorkin’s screenplay explores the story behind the Wall Street Journal’s “The Facebook Files,” an explosive series of articles published in 2021, which exposed the inner workings of—and harms caused by—the world’s largest social network. Released in 2010 by Sony Pictures, “The Social Network”, starring Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, was both a hit with audiences and critics, and earned $226 million globally.
-TheWrap
★ Steve Burns left “Blues’ Clues” way back in 2002, but he never really left the show behind. Over the last few years he’s found new ways to reconnect with his (now grownup) audience — and now he’s launching a podcast aimed at adults. Burns said that “Alive”, which will debut this fall, will “continue what we started decades ago,” a reference to the Nickelodeon series that made him famous. Each week Burns and guests will discuss “what it means to stay human in a complicated world.”
-Nerdist
★ The 99th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s birth passed on June 1 with little press attention, but don’t expect the screen icon’s centennial to go similarly unnoticed. The year-long festivities leading up to her 100th birthday begin this month with the debut of Pantone’s Marilyn Monroe Collection Palette, an assortment of shades with names such as ‘Star White’ and ‘High Risk Red’. And earlier this month, it was announced that “Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon,” an exhibition exploring her public image through screen-used costumes, photographs, production documents, letters and other personal items, will kick off a 9-month run at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on May 31, 2026.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift – Tuesday, she gave a surprise performance at boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Tight Ends & Friends concert at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, joining Kane Brown onstage for ‘Shake It Off.’ After the crowd lost their minds, she made sure to thank the band and gave each of them a hug.
• KATSEYE — Jessica Alba makes a cameo in their new video for ‘Gabriela’. In it, Alba plays a shrewd businesswoman who challenges the group members to follow in her footsteps as CEO of the fictional Gabriela Enterprises. Naturally, the girl group’s battle royale evolves into song and dance. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mr24te8e
• Sabrina Carpenter – has revealed an alternate cover for her upcoming “Man’s Best Friend” album, following controversy over the original artwork. The secondary cover consists of a B&W shot of Carpenter glamorously clutching onto a man in a suit with a few other men in the background. In the caption of her post revealing the new cover, she wrote that it was “approved by God.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/58dbb9er
• Good Charlotte — is back with an album inspired by lifestyles of the rich and famous — not their song, but the real thing. Their first album in 7 years, “Motel Du Cap” was sparked by a 2023 private gig they played at a luxury hotel on the French Riviera, for a friend’s wedding. Joel Madden quote: “We were just there to celebrate, no pressure, and it reminded us why we started this — pure, unfiltered connection.”
• Wolfgang Van Halen – has backed out of performing at Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” all-star farewell concert on July 5. In an interview, The Mammoth leader said he had to bail due to his touring commitments with Creed.
• Oasis – posted that additional tickets may be released “in the coming days” for their Live 25 world tour. Although every show on the group’s much-anticipated reunion tour is sold out, it’s possible that, at certain dates, “promoters may be able to release a very limited number of additional tickets for sale once sight lines are checked and the production is fine tuned.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/48tk5w4y
• Joni Mitchell – The 81-year-old is releasing a huge compilation album. “Joni’s Jazz”, expected this September, will contain 61 songs across 4 CDs and 8 vinyl albums. The compilation has a focus on “jazz’s profound influence on her music,” and includes songs performed with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus, Jaco Pastorius, and Wayne Shorter.
• Luke Bryan – has announced that he will be missing several shows as he continues to battle an illness that sidelined him a week ago. He posted: “I’ve been hoping to rally, but my voice is just not there yet.” He was slated to perform festival dates in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado Thurs. through Sat. He thanked Eric Church for stepping in for him, and assured fans they’ll “still get a great show.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yxcud5th
• Morgan Wallen – launched his “I’m the Problem Tour” on June 20, and while in Houston, he made a donation to 2 local high schools. Both received new instruments for their music programs from the Morgan Wallen Foundation. A press release states it’ll be a recurring theme, reading: “Morgan Wallen Foundation is saying thank you to the communities that have welcomed Wallen in with open arms by supporting music programs in touring cities.”
• Florida Georgia Line – Is a reunion be on the horizon? The quiet release of a new EP seems to raise the question. Their label, Big Machine, dropped “Deep Cuts & Lost Tracks, Vol. 1”, on June 13. It includes 6 unheard songs, co-written by Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, except for one: ‘Smile’.

LIQUID ASSETS:
While water is often thought of as the best way to stay hydrated, new research suggests some common beverages may do an even better job. A study from Scotland’s St. Andrews University found that drinks containing small amounts of sugar, fat, or protein — like milk — help the body retain fluid longer than water alone. Milk, for example, contains lactose, protein, fat, and sodium, all of which slow fluid loss and promote hydration. Oral rehydration solutions (like Pedialyte and Hydralyte), which contain sugars and electrolytes such as sodium and potassium, work similarly. But not all drinks are hydration heroes. Beverages high in sugar, like soda or fruit juice, can actually pull water into the intestines during digestion, potentially leaving the body less hydrated overall. And as for beer and coffee? Volume and caffeine matter. Beer, with its higher fluid content, is less dehydrating than hard liquor. And while moderate coffee consumption can hydrate similarly to water, high caffeine intake can have a diuretic effect — especially in those not used to it.
(My new hydration plan: one cow, one keg, one Keurig!)
(Beer hydrates? Finally, science finally catches up with frat logic!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Texas man was shocked to learn he was legally married – to the woman he had just broken up with – without ever attending a wedding. The 42-year-old, whose name has not been released, had previously applied for a marriage license with then-fiancée Kristin Marie Spearman, but the couple never wed after an argument ended their relationship. Days later, he received a Bath & Body Works gift bag containing a certified marriage license and a photo of Spearman holding it. Authorities say she must have managed to get a local pastor to certify the marriage — even though the groom wasn’t in attendance, and filed the license without his presence. Spearman has been arrested and charged with felony stalking. (Apparently, it’s possible to get dumped INTO a marriage!)
➢ No one walks down the aisle thinking, “Can I get store credit if this doesn’t work out?” But one ex-bride gave it a shot. South African wedding photographer Lance Romeo recently went viral after a former client, whose 2019 marriage didn’t last, asked for a refund on her wedding photos. Her reasoning? She’s divorced now and “doesn’t need them anymore.” Romeo, while stunned by the request, fired back with a sharp reply, writing: “I can’t untake the pictures. Take care now.” Predictably, the internet had thoughts. One commenter wrote: “Does she want the vows refunded too?” Another compared it to asking for a haircut refund because your hair grew back. (Can I return my ex, too?)

DID YOU KNOW?
In 1980, 21-year-old Terry Fox set out on his legendary Marathon of Hope, running across Canada with one prosthetic leg to raise money for cancer research. Starting in St. John’s, Newfoundland, he ran 5,373 km in 143 days, wearing a pair of Adidas Orion shoes. Now, 45 years later, Adidas is re-releasing the iconic runners, with all proceeds going to cancer research. The limited-edition Orions feature navy, white, and gold details, including Terry’s name. As his brother Fred Fox said, they’re a symbol of Terry’s enduring legacy. The sneaker will be available July 3. LINK: https://terryfox.org/orion/

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Canadian Multiculturalism Day”, an opportunity to celebrate the country’s diversity and to appreciate contributions of various multicultural groups and communities to Canadian society. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3rkb6jy5
• “Decide to Be Married Day”, focusing on the joys of the ball-and-chain. (Please note: This is not a decision that one can make independently). [***Ask listeners for advantages to being married that you rarely hear about***]
• “Happy Birthday to You Day”. It’s been translated into at least 2 dozen languages, and Guinness once called it the most recognizable song in English. Today is the birthday of the woman who wrote the song’s melody. Mildred Hill was born on this date in 1859.
• “Pineapple Day”. Whether you’re eating a pineapple upside-down cake or sipping a piña colada, be sure to celebrate this occasion with pineapples in some way! (Fun Fact: Pineapples were such a status symbol in 18th century England that you could rent one for the evening to take to a party.)
• “Sunglasses Day”, the 89th anniversary of the debut of ‘Ray-Ban Sunglasses’. In the 1930s, the US military commissioned glasses that would protect pilots from sun glare. But they didn’t become a real fad until the ‘60s when an ad campaign asked, “Who’s behind those Foster Grants?”
• “Bingo Day”. Bingo is a game popular with both the young and old that is played in person or online, often for prizes or money. Bingo dates back to 16th-century Italy, where a lottery game called Il Giuoco del Lotto d’Italia was played.
• “HIV Testing Day”, an annual campaign by the National Association of People with AIDS to encourage at-risk individuals to receive voluntary HIV counseling and testing.
• “Industrial Workers of the World Day”, to draw attention to workers in manufacturing, and their importance in producing the goods that we consume and rely on. (Thank-you, China.)
• “PTSD Awareness Day”, to bring greater awareness to the issue of post-traumatic stress disorder.
• “Food Truck Day”. This occasion was started by a radio DJ in 2015. (Go figure — he probably did it to get a free meal!). [Rick McNeely of the Fishbowl Radio Network in Arlington, Texas]
• “Drive Your Corvette to Work Day”, the annual event initiated by Mid America Motorworks. (I hope you don’t need to pick up groceries on the way home!)
• “Helen Keller Day”. Born on this date in 1880, she was an American author, political activist, and lecturer, and the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts. The story of her and her teacher, Anne Sullivan, was made famous by Keller’s autobiography, “The Story of My Life”, and its film and stage adaptations, “The Miracle Worker”. (***See ‘BS Deep Thought’, below***)
SATURDAY:
• “Insurance Awareness Day”. Hmm, now who do you think came up with this one? Insurance is a gamble. If you buy it, you’re betting that something will go wrong. If you don’t buy it, you’re betting that nothing will go wrong. (And even if it doesn’t, your rates still go up!)
• “International Body Piercing Day”, celebrated in piercing and modification communities worldwide. It coincides with the birthday of Jim Ward, the ‘father of modern piercing’. (How do you suppose they recommend you observe this day?)
• “Tapioca Day”, honoring that stuff you put in pudding that looks like fish eyes in glue.
• “INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY”, to poke fun at those who unnecessarily capitalize letters, words, and phrases. (NOW STOP YELLING!)
• “Paul Bunyan Day”, celebrating the famous American fable about the giant lumberjack who performed incredible feats such as scooping out the Great Lakes to get water for ‘Babe’, his blue ox.
• “Logistics Day”. Logistics refers to the process of moving and coordinating resources from one location to another. There are many different facets involved, from packaging to shipping. There is also a wealth of equipment, inventory, materials, and people involved. Today, we recognize and appreciate the importance that the logistics sector plays. (All this explains why there’s a charge for shipping!)
• “Bartender and Mixologist Day”, honoring these 2 professions. While the 2 words are used interchangeably, technically, a bartender is a person who tends bar and serves drinks, while a mixologist is the one who masters the art of mixing ingredients to create cocktails.
SUNDAY:
• “Camera Day”, which has unknown origins, but we always turn our ‘focus’ to cameras and photographs on June 29th. It’s estimated that each year, we take over 2 trillion digital photos — about 61,000 every second. (And some of them don’t even involve “duckface”!)
• “Hug Holiday”, encouraging us to give hugs to those who need them. It is aimed at the elderly, sick and lonely, and anyone who needs the warmth, cheer, and love that a hug provides. Be sure to ask first! (If you knew my Aunt Betty, you’d be asking for a holiday FROM hugs today!)
• “Waffle Iron Day”, celebrating the awesome kitchen gadget. The waffle dates back to the 1300s in Greece, where flat cakes were baked between 2 metal pans. At the time, they topped it with cheeses and herbs. (What’s the weirdest waffle ingredient or topping you’ve heard of? For us, it’s turkey stuffing!)
• “Almond Buttercrunch Day”, a combination of toffee covered with chocolate, and sprinkled with toasted almonds. (It’s definitely worth a special day to me!)
ALMOND FUN FACTS:
✓ Chocolate manufacturers use 40% of the world’s almonds.
✓ It takes more than 1.2 million beehives to pollinate California’s Almond crop (over 550,000 acres).
