Monthly Planning Calendar in Today’s Issue!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

TONIGHT “Love” premieres at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, a new Cirque du Soleil show that combines the troupe’s signature high-flying acrobatics with classic Beatles tunes (original ‘Fab Four’ producer George Martin helped arrange the score) . . . SATURDAY Paris Hilton is expanding her ‘Club Paris’ nightclub chain to Jacksonville FL, where she’s contractually obligated to appear at least twice a month and is expected for the grand opening (you know what that means – some semi-famous guy in Jacksonville is about to get lucky) . . . CANADA DAY evening CTV airs “Stompin’ Tom In Live Concert”, a 1-hour show shot in hi-def at the 70-year-old Canadian icon’s Hamilton concert last SEPTEMBER (a special the CBC infamously passed on), which will be followed by the DVD release on TUESDAY . . . FOX-TV has only ordered up 16 episodes of “The OC” for NEXT SEASON as compared to the usual 22 (that’s because Mischa Barton left, meaning 6 fewer hours of watching her staring blankly at the camera) . . . It just cleaned up at the annual “Dora Awards”, but poor ticket sales have caused the Toronto stage production of “The Lord of the Rings” to be scheduled for an early close on SEPTEMBER 3rd (it was expected to run at least until NEXT SPRING) . . . Paparazzi stalking the St Regis Resort in Bora Bora, Tahiti to get snaps of vacationing “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria & her NBA boyfriend Tony Parker must have giggled in glee when another couple moved into a villa just a few yards down the boardwalk – none other than newlyweds Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban (their honeymoon suite costs $15,000 per night) . . . And this could be the duh! move of the year – a 29-year-old Jordanian has been arrested after trying to steal some $23,000 from a Dubai UAE money exchange using a fake ID card bearing a photo of Brad Pitt, which was downloaded from the Internet and apparently – picked at random (dude, when trying to pass yourself off as someone else, it’s probably best to select a pic of someone who’s not one of the most famous people on the planet).

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ashlee Simpson – After her much-discussed recent plastic surgery upgrade, which included a nose job & lip enlargement, she received a $4-million offer from “Playboy” for a buff layout. She reportedly gave it some consideration … but eventually turned it down.
• Gwen Stefani – The singer/designer will debut a new line of LAMB watches NEXT MONTH. There’ll be 28 different timepieces to choose from, with more due in time for the holiday season.
• Juvenile – He’s bringing his raps to several US military bases THIS SUMMER beginning TONIGHT at Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Oahu. After that, it’s onward to South Korea.
• Kelly Clarkson – TONIGHT she kicks off her 25-date “Addicted” tour in West Palm Beach FL. She says to expect ‘huge surprises’. She got implants?
• Rihanna – SATURDAY she embarks on a 3-month North American summer tour in San Diego CA, her first road trip as a headliner.
• Paul Simon – TONIGHT he performs on “Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS).
• Ozzfest – SATURDAY the annual rock mega-tour kicks off its 2nd decade in San Francisco CA. Aging Ozzy Osbourne is scheduled to headline at just 10 of the 20-city tour’s shows. The 19-band lineup is highlighted by System of a Down.
• Vince Gill – His next release, “These Days” (due in OCTOBER), will be a massive 4-CD boxed set featuring 43 new songs. Guest artists not only include his wife, Amy Grant, and his daughter, Jenny Gill, but also Trisha Yearwood, Emmylou Harris, Lee Ann Womack, Gretchen Wilson, LeAnn Rimes, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Diana Krall, and more.

TODAY’S MOVIE OPENING:
“The Devil Wears Prada” ( PG-13 Dramedy ): Anne Hathaway (“The Princess Diaries”) plays a naive young journalist who scores a coveted job working for one of NYC’s biggest magazine editors (Meryl Streep), who’s also one of the most notorious bosses. Based on the 2003 book by Lauren Weisberger, who just happened to be “Vogue” magazine editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s assistant from 1999-2000. Word is Ms Wintour is none too pleased. Hot soundtrack includes Madonna, U2, Alanis Morissette, and Moby. Theme music & scene clips here …

CATS ARE JUST HUMORING US:
Cornell University animal behaviorist Nicholas Nicastro says that a cat’s meow is unusual because cats never use the sound with each other. Communication between felines usually involves only hissing, spitting and purring. Nicastro reckons that over the course of more than 5,000 years of domestication, cats developed meows in order to speak to humans. Cats do not use words, he says (rather obviously) but communicate whole thoughts such as ‘open the tuna, ‘move over’, or ‘change the litter’. (Not to mention ‘get out of my face, bald-bodied loser’.)
– “Seattle Weekly”

HEARD THE BUZZ ABOUT THIS NEW FAD?
‘Urban Beekeeping’ is the hot new thing in England, particularly in London. In fact, the British Beekeepers Association reports its numbers have almost doubled in the past 3 years. One urban beekeeping course offered THIS SUMMER has over 200 bookings. The hobby is particularly popular among 30-somethings, perhaps because it makes a great conversation-starter and it isn’t particularly strenuous. Experts say hives need to be checked only once every 7-to-10 days. Hives designed for urban areas sell for about $175 and can produce about 60 lbs of honey, which is more than double that produced in rural areas because of the greater variety of flowering plant life found in cities. (60 lbs? What the heck do you do with that much sticky stuff?)

CLOSE SHAVE:
The good folks at Gillette have determined that …
• The average man spends 3,350 hours (about 140 days) of his life shaving.
• Your beard would be approximately 30-feet-long if you never shaved.
• You would put on an extra pound (in hair) every 16 years if you never shaved.
• Dry beard hair is as tough as copper wire of the same thickness.
• A whisker is 70% easier to cut after being soaked 2 minutes in warm water.

VACATION RELATIONS:
Here’s another reason to love vacations! In a recent survey of resort-goers, 75% of the couples polled say that passion peaks during vacations and lasts up to 4 weeks after they return home. (It is unclear if the survey participants were married, or even on vacation together.)

The race’s 20 stages (through JULY 23rd) begin in Strasbourg and cover a total distance of 3,600 km (about 2,200 mi) throughout France. For the first time in a long time the race is wide open, thanks to the retirement of perpetual winner Lance Armstrong.

SUNDAY –
• “Be Nice to People You Don’t Like Day”. It messes with their heads … especially if you smile at them.

• “Halfway Point of 2006”. As of noon, 182-and-a-half days of the year will have elapsed and 182-and-a-half will remain before January 1st, 2007.

• “I Forgot Day”, set aside to make up for all the birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions that you forgot to acknowledge over the past year. (What’s the lamest excuse anyone ever laid on you?)

• “World UFO Day”, observed on the anniversary of the so-called ‘Roswell Incident’ of 1947. The intent is to get governments to ‘fess up to the existence of UFOs. Many tin-hat wearers believe aliens from outer space have already visited Earth but an elaborate cover-up is hiding the facts from us.
