BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The Television Academy has followed through on a threat to sue over today’s planned auction of Whitney Houston’s 1986 Emmy Award (for “Saving All My Love for You”). In a lawsuit against Heritage Auctions, the organization behind the Emmy Awards claims the statuette is a ‘loan’ to recipients and not a ‘gift’, adding that rules state the trophy should be given back to the Academy upon a winner’s death. Whitney died in 2012 and her heirs are now hoping to cash in on the prize as part of an estate sale of Whitney’s costumes and keepsakes.

★ Sunday Steve Martin’s musical “Bright Star” is set to fade from Broadway. Just weeks after coming up empty-handed at the Tony Awards, producers have decided this weekend will be its last. The bluegrass musical, written by the comedian-musician and his frequent collaborator Edie Brickell, began previews in February. It’s recently been reported that the pair, along with Brickell’s singer-husband Paul Simon, poured in over $1 million of their personal funds to keep it afloat. It was hoped some Tonys would bring in more patrons, but the show lost all 5 categories in which it was nominated.

★ And HBO has cancelled the rock & roll series “Vinyl”. The drama, which centers around a record label in 1970s NYC, initially received positive feedback when it premiered in February, but after consistently falling ratings the decision has been made not to proceed with a 2nd season. Bobby Cannavale starred as a recording executive on the show, which also featured Jack Quaid, Olivia Wilde, and Ray Romano among others. It was created by Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Rich Cohen, and Terence Winter.

SIPPIN’ THE BLUES:
Forget red, white, or rosé … there’s a new wine in town. Blue wine is now a thing. No BS. A Spanish startup called Gik has just unveiled the first-ever blue vintage. They’re hoping it will be the next big thing among alcohol-loving Millennials who want their drinks to be Instagram-able, not just tasty. Gik created the wine with the help of the University Of the Basque Country using both red and white grapes from Spanish vineyards. And the blue color? That’s down to anthocyanin, a pigment extracted from grape skin. There’s also some indigo dye thrown in to ramp things up. The $12 wine first goes to market in Europe in the near future. (At last, something to pair with a really rare steak!)
