BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ George Miller is flirting with the idea of taking another trip down Fury Road. Following his 2015 franchise reboot “Mad Max: Fury Road” and last year’s “Furiosa” prequel, the Oscar winner has revealed he’d like to make another installment “If for whatever reason the planets align.” He told Vulture that there is a script for a new Mad Max movie, but “I find myself with way too many stories — not only in my head, but in the form of…at least very detailed notes.” Miller added: “There’s 2 things I’m keen to do next. But if for whatever reason the planets align, you can never tell.”

★ Tyra Banks has addressed the backlash she’s received about things she said and did on her former reality TV show, “America’s Next Top Model.” During her speech at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards, Banks said: “You guys have no idea how hard we fought to bring the diversity to that television show at a time when it didn’t exist.” She went on to ask: “Did we get it right? No. I said some dumb (stuff). But I refuse to have my legacy be about some stuff linked together on the internet when there were 24 cycles of changing the world.” Banks, who was receiving the Luminary Spotlight award, concluded by saying she is “so excited that I, and so many of us, have opened that door for others to follow.”

★ A new companion has entered the TARDIS. In the first trailer for Season 2 of the latest reboot of “Doctor Who”, Ncuti Gatwa‘s ‘The Doctor’ is joined by ‘Belinda Chandra’ (Varada Sethu), who notes that she’ll go by ‘The Nurse’. The Doctor tells her: “There is something already connecting us”, as we get a glimpse of Belinda in another time and place, where she’s an intergalactic soldier. This season follows the pair on an epic quest to get Belinda back to Earth. But as The Doctor teases: “There are forces beyond this universe. We think we are so clever, but we are like children.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5h5fcc6d

And the ABC News correspondent has a touching story to share. 32-year-old Will Reeve, who is planning his upcoming wedding to fiancé Amanda Dubin, will honor his late father in a special way on the big day. He revealed to People that he’ll be wearing the “Superman” star’s cufflinks during the ceremony. SHOOTING THE BULL

KID STUFF:
If it sometimes feels like your kids are driving you crazy, take heart. It turns out it could quite literally be the opposite. According to a new study, dealing with all those sleepless nights and stressful situations that come with parenthood might actually be helping keep your brain young and sharp. UK researchers analyzed the brain scans of almost 40,000 adults, and found that people who had children showed slower cognitive decline as they aged, compared to those with fewer or no kids. The lead study author, from the Rutgers Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research, said that the brains of those with children showed “increased functional connectivity” as they age – and those with no kids showed the opposite. And the results also showed that the more children you have, the better the effects. The researchers believe that the expanded friends network and frequent family visits that come with parenting help create social bonds that benefit cognitive function. Also, it’s likely that having kids makes people more physically active and likely to create healthier habits, which also help the brain.
(So, my kids keep my brain young? Good, because they’re aging everything else!)
(That totally explains why my wife is always saying that me and my kids share the same brain!)

TUNNEL VISION:
A huge network of underground spy tunnels dating back to World War II could become London’s next big tourist attraction. The series of secret, subterranean passages, which provided inspiration for the ‘James Bond’ novels, cover an area of about 86,000 square feet (8,000m2), is set to be open to the public in 2028. It’ll be part museum, part memorial, and part art gallery and cultural hub – as well as a nightlife hotspot with what’s being called the world’s deepest bar. Up to 3 million visitors per year are expected to the underground attraction. Construction will start in late 2026, at a cost of about $149 million. Originally built between 1940-42 as an air raid shelter, to provide protection from Nazi bombings, the tunnels were never needed as intended, but were later repurposed as headquarters for a division of MI6, the British intelligence agency. It was while serving this function that they provided inspiration for James Bond author Ian Fleming, who worked there in 1944.
(The Tunnel Bar: Where every drink you order is underground, undercover – and probably overpriced!)
(Spies, art, and cocktails? This place sounds like a classy episode of “Scooby-Doo”!)

NEW FOOD NEWS:
➢ About 150 people showed up in rural Pennsylvania last weekend for the Taste of the Wild Outdoors dinner in Pine Grove. The buffet-style meal, held at the local fire hall, included all kinds of fare that you might not find anywhere else – except in the wild. That included: stingray casserole, bear stew, raccoon andouille and rabbit kielbasa. There was also roasted grey squirrel, bobcat lo mein, wild boar ham and coyote teriyaki on a stick. And the mystery meat this year — was alligator. For the less adventurous, there was also venison and salmon. Organizer Larry Primeau, who headed up a crew of local sportsmen to pull off the event, said his goals are to encourage anglers, hunters and trappers to consider new species as food, make full use of the animals they kill, and raise money for youth outdoor activities. (And to have a way to dispose of local roadkill?)
➢ Foodies in China have been flocking to a funeral home. Why? Because a delicious noodle dish served at its canteen went viral on social media. The dish is found at the Erlong Funeral Home in the province of Guizhou. The canteen caters to the funeral home’s customers, but as word began to spread about its noodles, hungry diners – some posing as mourners – began showing up to try it. The funeral home offers noodle dishes during breakfast and supper hours, and a worker said that sometimes, lineups are so long that diners have to wait a few hours to get their food. The funeral home has since announced it will allow some members of the public to eat at its premises, as long as they don’t disturb actual mourners. (Is this an example of taking the phrase “death by carbs” a little too literally?)

DID YOU KNOW?
You’re more likely to splurge on unnecessary items when shopping on a touchscreen — as opposed to using a desktop computer. A 2022 University of British Columbia study had 300 students take part in 3 different experiments that examined their online purchasing habits. It was discovered that desktop users were more likely to use rational thinking when it came to spending money online, while touchscreen products resulted in participants opening their wallets more for products that weren’t quite so rational. The study’s author said: “My advice for consumers who want to save a bit of money is to put away the smartphone when you have an urge to spend on a guilty pleasure.” (So, it turns out it’s my phone that’s the real shopaholic, not me!)

BS CHRONOMETER 03.04.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Mardi Gras”, aka “Fat Tuesday” or “Pancake Day”, the last big blow-out before Lent begins. It’s also “Shrove Tuesday”, the day before Ash Wednesday, observed in many Christian countries through confession and absolution, finalizing one’s Lenten sacrifice, as well as eating pancakes and other sweets. Here’s a look at some . . . BS WAYS YOU CAN TELL IT’S “PANCAKE DAY”:
⇒ The price of syrup doubled yesterday.
⇒ You shake hands and your palms stick.
⇒ A whole lot of wacky-lookin’ Frisbees in the schoolyard.
⇒ ‘Pearl Milling Company’ has just made “Fortune” magazine’s “Top 10”.
⇒ It’s the first time you’ve heard the word “shrove” since this time last year.
⇒ It just kinda “créped” up on you . . .
• “March Forth and Do Something Day!”, a day of motivation celebrated each March 4th. Today, you’re encouraged to do something new that enriches your life, or the life of someone else.
• “Unique Names Day”, a part of “Celebrate Your Name Week”, when we’re encouraged to salute those who have an unusual name. Let’s appreciate them for going through life without seeing their names on things like ready-made key chains, etc. (But what kid ISN’T given a unique name these days …or at least a unique spelling?)
• “Courageous Follower Day”, to dispel the myth that followers are passive or weak individuals. We often celebrate the concept of leadership, but all leaders require followers and, in fact, virtually all of us are followers at some times, and leaders at others. (You follow?)
• “Grammar Day”, to celebrate clean, correct sentences, and shun ungrammatical writing. [Sponsored by the Society for the Promotion of Good(er) Grammar] LINK: http://nationalgrammarday.com
• “Poundcake Day”, honoring the hearty dessert that sits in your stomach like a lead anchor. (When’s ‘Pound Salt Day’?)
• “Sons Day”. A thing since 2018, it celebrates and recognizes “the special importance and significance of being a son and raising sons.” Parents are encouraged to recognize their sons by posting on Facebook. (Be sure to include an embarrassing pic!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/kn6jpvew
• “Scrapbooking Day”. More than just saving mementos, modern scrapbooking involves sorting, cropping, pasting, and writing captions for chosen pictures. Professional “scrapbooking kits” are available, and “scrappers” or “scrapbookers”, get together and scrapbook at each other’s homes, scrapbook stores, scrapbooking conventions, retreat centers, and even on cruises(!!).
• “Snack Day”. Usually smaller than a meal and often eaten between them, they are sometimes even eaten late at night and called ‘midnight snacks’. The word “snack” comes from the Dutch word “snacken,” which means to bite. (What’s your “go-to” snack?)
• “Sportsmanship Day”, to bring about thoughtful discussion about good sportsmanship among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and parents.
