BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ J-Lo is moving to a new block. More than 2 months after finalizing her divorce from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez has purchased a new $18 million home near Los Angeles, People reports. Her new chapter comes less than a year after she and Affleck quietly placed their $61 million Beverly Hills home up for sale, and the ‘Jenny From the Block’ singer started looking at properties soon after. Affleck closed a deal for a 5-bedroom Los Angeles estate for $20.5 million last July.

★ Zendaya will star as legendary singer Ronnie Spector in the upcoming biopic “Be My Baby”, to be directed by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins. Variety quotes sources as saying that the “Mufasa: The Lion King” director and Zendaya had been looking to work together for some time, and have agreed on a version of Spector’s story that will tell what the singer’s life with troubled producer Phil Spector felt like, rather than a traditional “cradle to the grave” biopic. Deadline says that before her passing, Spector was an executive producer on the film, and hand-selected Zendaya to play her.

★ “Adolescence” has already set a major viewership record after its second weekend of streaming on Netflix. After opening with a massive 24.3 million views in its first 4 days, Adolescence was the most watched title on Netflix the week of March 17-23 with another 42 million views, taking the show to 66.3 million views — more than any other Netflix limited series has achieved within a 2 week period — and the UK crime story managed that within just 11 days.
-Variety
★ ‘Jigsaw’ won’t be returning to theaters this year, after all. “Saw XI” has been axed from the release calendar. The 11th installment in the long-running slasher franchise was scheduled to open on Sept. 26, but Lionsgate studio will instead release another blood-soaked horror film, “The Strangers – Chapter 2,” on the newly freed-up date. Right now, it’s not clear if there are plans to unveil “Saw XI” at any point. Lionsgate greenlit the sequel in 2023, but the film’s screenwriters recently said “zero progress” has been made since they turned in a draft last spring.
-Variety
★ YouTube hit a record 11.6% of all TV viewing in February, according to Nielson’s latest report. The top finish was only YouTube’s second, largely due to Nielsen methodology, which groups together all platforms of the Walt Disney Co. (including ESPN, ABC and streaming). In February, Disney fell to #2, while Fox Corp. rode a surge of viewership thanks to the Super Bowl to edge Netflix and end up third. YouTube has been on a long-term growth trajectory, and recently announced that living-room viewing had exceeded that on mobile devices and computers.

SHOOTING THE BULL

20 MINUTES – OR ELSE:
While there is no shortage of professional advice out there about the kinds of foods you should be eating to improve your health, not many experts touch on the speed at which we eat, which might matter just as much. Risks associated with eating too fast include the possibility of “stuck food” in the esophagus, inhaling air, which can lead to a bloated feeling, indigestion, and the potential of obesity, thanks to overeating before your brain realizes you’re full. Scientists say that if you’re the type who regularly polishes off breakfast, lunch or dinner in less than 20-30 minutes, you’re eating too fast. Leslie Heinberg, dietary expert at the Center for Behavioral Health at the Cleveland Clinic, has these tips for those who need some help slowing down when we’re chowing down…
• Turn off the TV and lose the phone: They distract you from recognizing when you’re full. Besides, people tend to eat until there’s a commercial or the show is over, leading to eating too much.
• Try using your non-dominant hand to eat, or utensils that you’re not familiar with, in an effort at mindful eating. And take a break to slurp some water!
• Chew your food, just like mom told you to. That means taking more bites than you normally would.
• Be aware that it’s much easier (and faster) to eat ultra processed or fast foods quicker, because they typically have a softer texture. (Is that why they call ‘em ‘fast foods’?) Veggies and traditional proteins both require more chewing.
(Believe me – after 20 minutes of eating, I’m just getting warmed up!)
(I tried eating with my wrong hand – and I wound up using my right one, too!)

THROWBACKS:
❑ In what can only be reacted to by saying “Is this 2001, or am I crazy?”, Napster has been sold for more than $200 million. The notorious illegal file sharing site, established in 1999, and sued into oblivion 2 years later, has been sold a number of times in the ensuing years. Now the tech company Infinite Reality, which calls itself the “future of immersion”, has dropped a whopping $207 million for Napster, teasing the acquisition as the first step in creating a “social-first music platform where fans can more directly engage with music and artists”. IR plans initiatives linked to “physical and digital merch sales, AI-powered customer service, and metaverse-like virtual spaces for fans to congregate for concerts or listening parties.” (So, basically this’ll be the Fyre Festival of the online world?)
❑ The original pilot for the long-running FOX animated comedy series “Family Guy” has been made available again online. The episode had previously been considered to be “lost media” for close to 30 years. Lost media are any media — movies, TV, music, video games, books, etc. — that are thought to no longer exist in any format. This has become increasingly rare in the digital age. But the 1998 premiere episode of Family Guy was missing – until it was unearthed the portfolio website of Robert Paulsen, one of the animators who worked on it. While the pilot is very similar to what the show became, there are some notable differences. One is the rudimentary animation. In addition, series creator Seth MacFarlane — who voices a number of characters, is heard voicing the role of ‘Peter Griffin’s’ son ‘Chris’, a role that eventually went to Seth Green. REVIVE DEEP-DIVE:
What product from your past would you love to see become available again? A new survey found that two-thirds of us would actually pay extra to have our fav “no longer available” products come back. The poll of 2,000 adults in the US found that the average person would pay a grand total of 32% more for the products that “ring those nostalgia bells” to become available again. Some of the products mentioned by respondents as ones they’d like to see return included: classic Atari, Sega, and Nintendo consoles, Crystal Pepsi, Banana Nesquik, Blackberry phones, iPods, Jolt soda, Surge soda, and Bubblegum Jeans. Over half agreed that items like these are more valuable to them than anything currently available.
(If you’re serious about wanting any of those things, I’m pretty sure I have most of them squirreled away in my basement – or my garage!)
(It must say something about me that as soon as I saw they were asking about wishing no-longer-available things would come back, my mind immediately went to Denny’s menu items!)

DID YOU KNOW?
We automatically assume good people share our political views and bad people oppose them, according to new research. And that even happens with fictional characters like ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Thanos’. A study published in Political Science Research and Methods revealed what researchers call “motivated political projection.” This means we tend to think that people whom we like share our political views, while those we dislike must belong to the opposing political camp. Regardless of a character’s other traits (gender, age, background), participants consistently projected their own partisan identities onto the heroes — while assuming villains supported the opposing party. The researchers say this might help explain why political divisions feel so hard to bridge today. (That’s exactly what I’d expect to hear – from a commie!)

BS CHRONOMETER 03.27.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Joe Day”, when people who hate their names are to be given a break and simply called ‘Joe’. (***Ask listeners for the most horrific given names they’ve ever heard of***)
• “International Whisky Day”, launched in 2008. The name is also used with an “e” to indicate support of American and Irish whiskeys, as well as Canadian, Japanese, and Scotch whisky (no ‘e’). The day aims to support Parkinson’s Disease research. There is also a World Whisky Day in May (…which, if you celebrate today’s properly, you’ll have forgotten about by then…).
• “World Theatre Day”, established in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute. A celebration of the value and importance of the art form “theatre”. Generally, the British prefer the “r-e” spelling of the word, while Americans tend to spell it ending with the letters “e-r”.
• “Viagra Day”, celebrating the 1998 date when the ‘Little Blue Pill’ for men was approved for retail sale. (Are you up for this?)
• “Scribble Day”, an “annual celebration of creativity” during which students create “Scribble” art to share with the world. Diane Alber, a writer and illustrator of children’s books, was inspired to create the day when her 2019 Facebook post about it resulted in interest from over 200 teachers. LINK: https://www.facebook.com/imnotjustascribble/
• “Spanish Paella Day” [pie-AY-uh], celebrating the saffron rice dish that’s basically a stew that might include, chicken, sausage, shellfish, and vegetables. It’s often cooked and served in a flat round pan.
• “Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day”. How about these, for instance …
– ‘I Gave Her the Ring, and She Gave Me the Finger’
– ‘I Wish I Were a Woman (So I Could Go Out With a Guy Like Me)’
– ‘Her Teeth Were Stained, But Her Heart Was Pure’
– ‘You Can’t Have Your Kate And Edith Too’
– ‘Don’t Cry On My Shoulders ‘Cause You’re Rustin’ My Spurs’
– ‘If My Nose Were Full Of Nickels, I’d Blow It All On You’
– ‘I Knew I’d Hit Rock Bottom When I Woke Up On Top Of You’
(And let’s not forget ‘Save a Horse [Ride a Cowboy]’!)
