★ Stand-up comedian Sinbad is recovering from a recent stroke. His family released a statement Monday saying the 64-year-old, whose real name is David Adkins, “is beginning his road to recovery, we are faithful and optimistic that he will bring laughter into our hearts soon.” Most recently, Sinbad had a main role on the Fox series “Rel”, which ran for one season from 2018-2019. He was still doing standup shows as recently as October.

★ Ellen DeGeneres was quick to thank the staff on her daytime talk show as she accepted her People’s Choice Award on Sunday night after a difficult year. A handful of current and former employees went public over the summer with claims the set of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was a “toxic” environment of misconduct, bad behavior and harassment. Despite the controversy, Ellen’s show took home the Daytime Talk Show of 2020 award at Sunday night’s ceremony.

★ Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s surprise takeover of ailing Welsh soccer club Wrexham F.C. has been approved by its fan ownership group. They first submitted an offer to buy the team from the Wrexham Supporters Trust over the summer, and delivered a virtual presentation of their plans earlier this month. On Monday, club officials announced that members of the supporters’ group had overwhelmingly voted to approve the Hollywood stars’ takeover.

•  Megan Thee Stallion – claims Tory Lanez tried to pay her off to keep quiet after the alleged shooting incident that left her with a foot injury. Lanez was charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and could face up to 23 years in prison.
• Tekashi 6ix9ine – is the subject of the new Hulu documentary “69: The Saga of Danny Hernandez”. He was released from both prison and house arrest in August after pleading guilty to nine separate felony charges. The doc explores his reckless flirtation with gang life.
• AC/DC — singer Brian Johnson believes the medical treatment he’s been receiving has saved his hearing. In 2016, he was warned that he’d go completely deaf unless he stopped performing live, but underwent an undisclosed “brand new” course of treatment, which he calls “magical”.
• Rush — Hudson Music has announced the The Neil Peart Drumset Scholarship. PAS (Percussive Arts Society) will annually award four drummers the opportunity for online drum lessons from well-known artists/educators. Applications will be accepted beginning in March at PAS.org.
• Van Halen – Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang says the group planned a tour for the summer of 2019 that would have featured all present and past members, including singers David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone, plus bassist Michael Anthony. Unfortunately, before the “Kitchen Sink” tour could even be announced, Eddie’s health began to decline, leading to his death in October.
• Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A and Tim McGraw — will all perform on this year’s CMA Country Christmas television special, airing Nov. 30. Thomas Rhett, who will be hosting with his wife, Lauren Akins, will also sing. Darius Rucker will perform a duet with violinist/singer Lindsey Stirling, who has appeared during multiple CMA Country Christmas events.
• Reba McEntire – explained on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” why she turned down the coaching spot on “The Voice” that went to Blake Shelton. Reba passed on the gig because she didn’t want to criticize up and coming singers, saying: “I don’t think I’d ever be able to tell somebody that they’re terrible, or, ‘Go find another job’.”
• Laine Hardy – will be part of a multi-artist livestreamed concert called “Friendsgiving” set to take place at the Ryman Auditorium tonight. She’ll be joined by Matt Stell, Riley Green, Laci Kaye Booth, Dillon James and Grace Leer. Tickets are available at www.Dreamstage.live

TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE – FLIGHT EXTRA:
If you’d like to make up for all the travel opportunities you’ve missed this year, a resort in the Maldives might have just the thing for you. The Anantara resort is offering an “Unlimited Stays in Paradise” package that is valid to book unlimited nights in 2021 for $30,000. That allows two guests to stay in an overwater bungalow, daily breakfast, Wi-Fi, transportation, and discounts on dining and spa services. The 5-star ‘adults-only’ resort has multiple restaurants, an option for private movie screenings, and offers excursions. The Maldives, a small island country southwest of India, has allowed travelers to visit again since mid-July. Bookings close on Nov. 30.
(Bookings close Nov. 30? Well, it’s not like anyone was going to buy that for me for Christmas anyway…)
(They had me at “no kids allowed”!)
(30 grand sounds like a lot, but it’s for two people, so…)

POST-DEMIC
Due to COVID-19 measures, scientists are finding fewer people are getting sick from other illnesses these days. But a team from Princeton University says we may only be delaying outbreaks of cold and flu normally seen this time of year. Their study found that non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) like mask wearing and avoiding large gatherings have resulted in fewer cases of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus during the pandemic. The worry is that less exposure to these viruses now may make their eventual return even harder to deal with. According to their analysis of historical data, a projected outbreak of cold and flu will likely be delayed until the end of mask-wearing and social distancing measures. The peak of this new outbreak is projected to hit in winter of 2021-22.
(So, the GOOD news is that they don’t think we’ll need to wear a mask by sometime next year. The BAD news is that we’ll still be getting sick…)
(This is NOT what I thought they meant when they told us to “Be patient”!)
(Does this mean we aren’t going to be able to find toilet paper again?)

DON’T LOSE ANY SLEEP OVER THIS:
You’ve heard it before – not getting enough sleep is bad for your health and affects your productivity. But according to a sleep deprivation study, getting just 6 hours of sleep a night is just as bad as not sleeping at all. The study, published in the journal “Sleep”, took 48 adults and restricted their sleep to a maximum of 4, 6 or 8 hours a night for 2 weeks. Predictably, those who were allowed to sleep 8 hours per night had the highest performance on average. Subjects who got only 4 hours a night did worse each day. And the group who got 6 hours of sleep seemed to be holding their own, until around day 10 of the study. By then, they showed cognitive performance that was as bad as test subjects who weren’t allowed to sleep at all for two days straight. And here’s the kicker: The people who slept six hours per night thought they were doing just fine. They didn’t rate their sleepiness as being all that bad, even as their cognitive performance was going downhill. The scientists say the findings raise the question about how people cope when they get insufficient sleep, perhaps suggesting that they’re in denial (willful or otherwise) about their present state.
(That explains a whole lot about this show…!)
(What these people need is a spouse to tell them when they need a nap!)
(So if it’s midnight and you have to be up at 6, you might as well stay up all night and spare your partner all that snoring!)

FUNNY NAMES KIDS GIVE TO THINGS:
Anyone who’s been around children knows they offer a number of creative takes on the English language. A recent viral internet post asked for examples…
➢ “When my son was younger, we didn’t buy soda (Coke, Pepsi), so when we went to restaurants, he would ask for ‘black juice.’”
➢ “My 3-year-old son calls mustard ‘hot dog syrup.’”
➢ “Pants = ‘leg prisons’ to our oldest.”
➢ “My daughter used to call a plain hamburger ‘airplane hamburger.’ It took me a while to figure it out since she had never been on a plane.”
➢ “My daughter called a head of lettuce a ‘salad ball,’ and that’s forever what we call it.”
➢ “A boy I babysat called lasagna ‘spaghetti cake.’”
➢ “Our oldest called knives ‘cut its’ because we would say ‘Do you want me to cut it?’ So he would say fork, spoon, cut it.”
➢ “My son called all UPS trucks the ‘bubble wrap truck.’”
➢ “My almost 3-year-old calls the bathroom fan the ‘poop wind.’ And it will forever be called that in our house.”

DID YOU KNOW?
Chances are, you’ve spent the equivalent of almost 19 days parked on your living room couch since the start of coronavirus pandemic lockdown measures in March. A survey of 2,000 Americans found they’ve spent an average of 448 hours planted on a comfy living room cushion. 7 in 10 even admit they’ve begun to view their favorite sofa as a new best friend.

➠ It’s Mickey Mouse Day. He debuted in “Steamboat Willie” this week in 1928. In “Steamboat Willie”, Mickey whistles, smiles and claps. (The only person who’s had more fun on a boat is Tommy Lee!)
