★ Sofía Vergara is getting to know a new man. The 51-year-old — who announced her divorce from Joe Manganiello in July — was spotted on another dinner date with orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman in Santa Monica on Saturday night. The “Modern Family” star walked side by side with Saliman as they arrived at Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi. The pair were first photographed together last month, when they went out for dinner at another Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills. During the October outing, they were spotted both at the eatery and in a car driven by Saliman.

★ Shannon Beador is ready to turn things around in her life — even if it means cutting ties with those who she feels are toxic for her. The “Real Housewives of Orange County” alum appeared at BravoCon 2023, days after she was sentenced to 3 years probation and 40 hours of community service for DUI. She said that she is “grateful for the people that have rallied around” her, particularly former co-stars Vicki Gunvalson and Tamra Judge — who joined her at the event in support of their Tres Amigas program. She announced she has enrolled in an outpatient behavioral wellness program, and is “making steps to eliminate toxicity” from her life.

In its bankruptcy petition filed last week, the Los Angeles-based company, listed assets and liabilities with a combined value of at least $100 million per category. ★ “James Bond” producer Barbara Broccoli has shared a disappointing update on the next instalment of the franchise. The film series, which has spanned 25 films, 6 actors and nearly 6 decades, had its most recent outing with Daniel Craig’s final appearance as the suave ‘007’ in 2021’s “No Time To Die”. Following the box-office smash, attention turned to who would take up the mantle next – and when. But, in a new interview, Broccoli indicated that we’ll find out about that later, rather than sooner. Quote: “It’s gonna take a while…you know, it’s a whole new reinvention. So it’ll take some time.”

SHOOTING THE BULL
A TIP ABOUT TIPPING:
Well, here’s a not-so-subtle reminder to tip your delivery driver. DoorDash has been testing out alerts that remind customers to include a gratuity . . . if they want their food to arrive in a timely manner. If you place an order through the DoorDash app without leaving a tip, you may get a pop-up reading: “Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered — are you sure you want to continue?” The note goes on to explain: “Dashers can pick and choose which orders they want to do. Orders that take longer to be accepted by Dashers tend to result in a slower delivery.” In other words, tip your driver, or prepare to wait a long time for a cold meal. Customers are then given the option to add a tip . . . again.
(Well, the word “tips” DOES supposedly stand for To Insure Prompt Service!)
(Is it just me, or does it seem like tipping used to be about rewarding exceptional service – and now, it’s more about paying extra to receive almost-acceptable service?)

ANIMAL TALES:
❑ And you thought the time change was tough on YOU. Animal care workers are putting out the word that moving clocks ahead or back an hour affects our animals, too. Ontario SPCA registered veterinary technician Jocelyn Rutgers says that many owners of finicky pets may have found them extra ornery when daylight saving time came to an end over the weekend. That’s because, like us, pets have natural circadian rhythms and internal biological clocks tuned to cycles of light and dark. So, from their perspective, everything in their routine happened an hour later than usual on Sunday, and they still haven’t fully adjusted to the new schedule. The most important thing, now that it’s too late to have started adjusting their routine in small increments last week, is to establish the new routine, and stick to it. (I know! The time change was so tough on my little fluffy. The poor girl was only able to sleep 23 hours that day!)
❑ Cats have 276 facial expressions, according to a new study. Researchers filmed 53 cats at a cat café and then went through hours of footage to discern different expressions (breathing, yawning and other default cat behaviors weren’t included). They concluded that while they are unable to determine what all of those different faces and ear twitches mean, they believe that when cats are feeling friendly, their ears and whiskers move forward while their eyes close. And an aggressive cat has constricted pupils, ears flattened against the head and a tongue-swipe of the lip. (And the other 274 expressions all mean some variation of “I’m bored”, “I don’t care”, “I’m hungry”, or “Let me out of this house, you tyrant, I need to kill small animals!”)

THE HOST WITH THE MOST . . . STRESS:
So…where is your family celebrating the holidays this year? If the fun is going to be happening at your place, you just might end up with a few more grey hairs. Three in 4 people who are hosting guests this year say they are already stressed about it, according to a new survey. The poll of 2,000 US adults found that while most enjoy entertaining guests at their home, there are still many stressors involved. The top one: Making sure everyone enjoys themselves, cited by 32%. That was followed, in order, by what food to serve (30%) and cleaning up in time for their guests’ arrival (28%). Other stress triggers included the feeling that they don’t have enough seating (18%), space (18%) and food (14%) for guests. And 32% said they just never feel prepared to have people over. Top rules for guests, according to hosts: “Take off your shoes”, “If you make a mess, clean it up”, and most importantly, “Make yourself at home and have fun”.
(How am I supposed to have fun if I have to clean up my own mess?)
(I WISH I had a family in which the biggest concern for a host is to make sure everyone enjoys themselves. In my family, the biggest problem is everyone enjoying themselves TOO MUCH!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The heart may be known as the “love muscle,” but a new study found that the feeling of love is mostly all in the head. Aalto University researchers were able to identify where in the body people feel various types of love and the intensity with which they experience the emotion. They found that love forms a spectrum, with some types felt more intensely than others, and that the sensation of love tends to center in a person’s head. However, some types of love were felt only in the chest, while others radiated throughout the entire body. The more intense the love, the more widespread the feeling was in the body. (I tend to feel it most in the wallet…)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Halfway Point of Autumn”, with 45 days elapsed and 45 more remaining until the Winter Solstice on December 21st. (Or 33 more leaf rakings…)
• “Bittersweet Chocolate With Almonds Day”, celebrating a particular combination of flavors – dark, bitter chocolate and toasted almonds. This is one of the oldest recipes involving chocolate in the English-speaking world. (Hey, chocolate with ‘whatever’ works for me!)
• “Notary Public Day”, initiated in 1975 to honor the officers who ‘administer oaths and statutory declarations, witness and authenticate documents, and perform certain other acts varying from jurisdiction-to-jurisdiction’. (Almost as exciting as “Accountants Day”)
• “Hug A Bear Day”, it isn’t about the big fuzzy beasts that roam the forests munching on nuts and berries. Hugging one of those could, in fact, lead to a very bad day. This day is about our loyal, trusty, fuzzy stuffed Teddy Bear.
• “Little League Girls Day”, in honor of New Jersey’s brave foray in equal opportunity sports for tomboys in 1973, when that state became the first to allow girls to play Little League baseball.
• “Merlot Day”, It deserves its own day simply because of this snooty quote from acclaimed vintner Christian Moueix: “Merlot is a friendly and delicate varietal which, on the proper terroirs and harvested at its peak, produces wines characterized by voluptuous, generosity and distinction.” (Does that mean it’s gonna cost me more than 4 bucks?)

➠ Researchers have found that with enough training, anyone can become a good singer. (I’m not sure how they came to this conclusion, but I promise you it was NOT from watching the audition rounds of “American Idol”!)
➠ A survey says that over 90% of women say it’s a turn-on when a guy cries at a wedding. (That’s sweet and all, but the reason I cry at weddings is that I know I’m losing a friend!)
➠ A report says that eating chocolate ice cream can significantly reduce emotional and physical pain. (…until you step on a scale!)
➠ The results of a survey, completed by 5,000 frequent fliers, says that nearly 10% have had sex at an airport. (The other 90% haven’t been “patted-down” by the TSA yet!)
➠ There are about 30 million dead people on Facebook. (And the rest, who post pictures of their cats or what they ate for lunch, are dead inside…)
