BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Dwayne Johnson might actually be cooking up a run at the White House. After a recent poll indicated 46% of U.S. adults would support the wrestler-turned actor running for President, The Rock was asked if he’d be interested in the job during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Johnson told Fallon: “I think down the road, for sure.” He indicated that, at one point last year, he had met with “political operatives” from D.C. about his potential future endeavors. While Johnson said he’s open to the idea, it won’t be anytime soon. As he told Fallon, he’s currently focused on being a dad to his 2 young daughters.

★ Central Perk Coffeehouse, named after the fictional shop featured on “Friends”, opened its first permanent location yesterday in Boston — and it used the occasion to honor Matthew Perry. For the grand opening, the coffee shop announced in a press release that it would “distribute the Chandler Bing ‘Can I Interest You in a Sarcastic Comment’ sleeve…for the entire day, in honor of the life and enduring legacy of Matthew Perry.” The shop, which licensed the name, is located on Boston’s famed Newbury Street, and is modeled after the spot where the Friends characters hung out. Its opening was delayed out of respect for Perry following his death on Oct. 28. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2xha8e8f

★ Brad Pitt and Ines de Ramon are putting a label on things. The lovebirds are reportedly “doing great” after one year of dating, an insider told People. The source was quoted as saying: “This is Brad’s first proper relationship since the divorce. He introduces [de Ramon] as his girlfriend.” The “divorce” part is a a reference to Pitt’s split from Angelina Jolie. The insider added that he is “in a good place, and de Ramon makes Pitt “very happy.” That comes a week after the pair stepped out for their first public appearance together at the 12th annual LACMA Art+Film Gala.

★ Chris Appleton has filed for divorce from Lukas Gage after almost 7 months of marriage. According to divorce documents, Appleton cited “irreconcilable differences” on Monday with a date of separation as Nov. 10. The documents also show that a postnuptial agreement is in place. Appleton, who is a hairstylist to the stars — for one, Kim Kardashian — married “White Lotus” actor Gage in a Las Vegas ceremony on April 22, with Kardashian officiating. The 2 have not yet publicly addressed their split.

★ The AFI Gala celebrating Nicole Kidman originally scheduled for last June will now take place on April 27, 2024, the American Film Institute has announced. The annual gala, now in its 49th edition, was postponed due to the WGA writer’s strike, which was resolved in September after 5 months. The actor’s strike also ended last week, clearing the way for this rescheduled event. In a statement, the AFI said: “Nicole Kidman has captured the imaginations of audiences throughout her prolific career, delivering complex and versatile performances onscreen.”

★ Ready to go back underwater? James Cameron’s Oscar-winning adventure “The Abyss,” originally released in the summer of 1989, will return to theaters on Dec. 6 for a one-night-only event. It will be the “special edition” of the movie, newly remastered in 4K. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Pink – plans to hand out 2,000 banned books during her 4 Florida shows. In a press release, she said: “Books have held a special joy for me from the time I was a child, and that’s why I am unwilling to stand by and watch while books are banned by schools.” Florida leads the country in book bans.
• Dua Lipa – says collaborator Kevin Parker’s band Tame Impala “completely changed” her life. She teamed up with Parker on her latest single ‘Houdini’ — and her upcoming third album – with the multi-instrumentalist serving as co-producer. In an interview, she said Tame Impala’s “Currents” album “has been the soundtrack to my life. It’s one of my favourite albums ever, ever, ever.”
• Ozzy Osbourne – Penelope Spheeris has confirmed that her unreleased Ozzfest documentary “We Sold Our Souls For Rock ‘N’ Roll” will finally see the light of day. The “Wayne’s World” director said that the film, featuring the original Black Sabbath, plus Slipknot, Rob Zombie, System of a Down, Godsmack, Fear Factory, and more, was made 20 years ago, and finally, Sharon Osbourne plans to release it.
• Bryan Adams – has announced a 2024 US tour with ex-Eurythmic Dave Stewart. It begins January 20 in Billings MT, and hits 27 US cities, plus 2 in Mexico, before wrapping March 20 in Syracuse NY. Adams will release his new box set “Live at the Royal Albert Hall” on December 8. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4fw738ne
• Dave Grohl — teamed up with his daughter Violet again over the weekend. David Bowie‘s pianist Mike Garson was performing a concert of Bowie covers in LA, which 17-year-old Violet joined in for. Dave accompanied his daughter on drums for a cover of Nirvana‘s ‘Heart Shaped Box’ and their collab ‘Show Me How’ from Foo Fighters‘ recent album “But Here We Are”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yc4nj6ee
• Carly Pearce – says her 4th album is “done” and will “probably” be released early next year. And what can we expect? She says that her last album gave her “the confidence to be as country as I wanted. But this album — I know the title but I can’t say it — solidifies who I am.”
• Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert – are 2 of the artists who are teaming up with Kid Rock for “Rock The Country”. The 2024 festival will hit 7 small towns across the US for a total of 14 shows, kicking off in Gonzales LA on April 5-6. Also on the bill, depending on which city, are Hank Williams JR., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lee Brice, Brantley Gilbert, Travis Tritt, Randy Houser, Big & Rich featuring Gretchen Wilson, and more. (We’re guessing Bud Light will NOT be served…!) LINK: https://www.rockthecountry.com/
• Morgan Wallen – Not only has 17 nominations at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, he’ll also be performing at the Nov. 19 show — but not from MGM Grand Garden in Vegas, where the show is being held. A recording of his recent performance of ’98 Braves’ at Truist Park in Atlanta will be streamed into the awards show. He played the song at the home of the Braves on Nov. 9 and 10.

SHOOTING THE BULL

A COLD ROLL:
Today is “Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day . . . but hmmm . . . maybe you won’t need to, after hearing about this: There is a TikTok hack going around that advises people to put toilet paper in the fridge as a way of eliminating the stench of spoiled food – or whatever else is the cause of that ungodly smell in there. You heard that right — your two-ply Charmin Ultra-Soft can soak up odors. Yes, Baking soda is the traditional approach to eliminating odors. . . but honestly, what under-30-year-old has baking soda in the house? The experts at “Parade” recommend using a fresh roll, placing it in the back of the fridge away from anything that could leak on it, and throwing away the roll after 3 weeks — and they even warn you: “don’t try to reuse the roll in the bathroom”. And by the way, baking soda aside, some other ways to neutralize the stink in your refrigerator include activated charcoal, vanilla, coffee grounds, lemon and oats – or fridge-specific deodorizers, which are available at your local store. LINKS: https://tinyurl.com/mry9r36t https://parade.com/living/toilet-paper-in-the-fridge-hack
(The experts are right: Re-using toilet paper under any circumstances is a BAD IDEA!)
(Actually, in my experience, what under-30-year-old has TOILET PAPER in the house?)

SCIENTISTS SAY:
☞ People who spend 20 hours or more per week in nature or green spaces are 41% more productive on an average day than those who spend less than 30 minutes a week outside, according to a new study. The study, commissioned by the Greener Communities Fund in the UK, also found that three-quarters of adults feel that spending time in nature gives them a boost of happiness that keeps them going all day, and 79% said it also makes them feel healthier and more energetic. (And that’s why I always try to look at the trees – while spending 20 hours per week in the Starbucks drive-thru!)
☞ Researchers at the University of Georgia have found that we’d all be better off talking to others – rather than staring into our phones. They report that when people were asked to either scroll on their phones, sit quietly by themselves, or have a conversation with a stranger, most believed talking was the most enjoyable. But note: While study participants generally expected to get more enjoyment from conversing with a real person than using their smartphone, they didn’t always actually follow that advice. (Hey! Those candies aren’t going to crush themselves!)

HOLIDAY STUFFING:
From the department of “Thank-you, Captain Obvious” comes this story. According to a new survey, most of us enjoy the holiday treats and drinks that are so common this time of year, but are dreading what they might do to the waistline. The poll of 2,000 adults in the US found that although 72% of us definitely look forward to the treats around the holiday season, 65% agree this is the worst time of the year for their diet. Three-quarters say they tend to eat more often during the day. Big surprise there? No? Other findings from the survey:
• 51% said they “often” or “always” feel like they ate too much food during the holidays.
• As a result, 56% suffer from constipation, 49% get indigestion, and 45% report getting acid reflux.
I could get into even MORE details about that, but I’ll spare you. Instead, here are the top 3 foods that people said cause “digestive issues” at this time of year:
1. Turkey (reported by 44%)
2. Pecan pie (41%)
3. Potatoes (39%)
…and the top 3 drinks:
1. Chocolate milk (45%)
2. Non-alcoholic eggnog (38%)
3. Hot cocoa/hot chocolate (38%)
(Well, HERE’S your problem – it’s those 2 words in front of “egg nog”!)
(My problem is that I “enjoy the treats and drinks that are so common at this time of year” all year round!)

DIGITAL JARGON THAT LEAVES ME “FIT TO BE TIED”:

One in 6 older adults admits they are baffled by the next generation of digital terms. A survey of senior adults found that terms like “hyperlinks,” “phishing,” and “The Cloud” (and many others) are likely to confound them. Here are the top 20 most “dadgum” digital terms, which sound like nothing but “tomfoolery” to those over 65 . . .
1. Smishing (Don’t worry – I had to look it up too: Sending texts while pretending to be from reputable companies in order to steal personal information)
2. Vishing (a type of cyber attack that uses voice and telephony technologies to trick people into revealing sensitive data)
3. Hyperlink
4. USB-C
5. Ransomware
6. URL
7. Phishing
8. QR code
9. Cloud
10. Malware
Bonus: Numbers 11-15…are Malware, IP address, Cookies, Streaming, and Tabs.
(I’m aware of some of these terms…but the rest just aren’t my cup of tea!)

DID YOU KNOW?

Scientists have come up with a toothpaste that could end severe peanut allergies. You may know that for years, doctors have treated allergies by introducing small amounts of the dangerous allergen over time, which desensitizes the patient. Experts at the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology say their process, called Oral Mucosal Immunotherapy, involves a toothpaste containing tiny amounts of allergenic peanut proteins, designed to build patients’ immunity over time. In a trial, every participant tolerated the highest dose of the peanut toothpaste without any moderate or severe reaction. (The only problem? They had to brush their teeth – after brushing their teeth!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day”. When was the last time you checked to see what was in the back of your refrigerator or at the bottom of the drawers? Or checked the expiration date of everything in your fridge? Just what is that lurking in the back? Don’t open it, just throw it out! (“Is this still good?”)
• “Pack Your Mom’s Lunch Day”, when kids with a mom who’s gone back-to-school are encouraged to honor her efforts by making her lunch. (Please don’t use any of that stuff that you just cleaned out of the fridge!)
• “Bundt Day”, celebrating the cake of that name, which is baked in a special mold. It was first popularized in the 1950s and ’60s. Time to get out that ‘Bundt pan’ you never use, so you can justify stowing it for another year.
• “Steve Irwin Day”. Crikey! It’s to honor the life and legacy of the one and only Crocodile Hunter (1962-2006). This day represents the things he was passionate about: family, wildlife conservation and fun. Among other things, you’re encouraged to wear khaki today. LINK: http://www.steveirwinday.org/
• “Philanthropy Day”, to recognize the great contributions people in the philanthropic community make to our lives, our communities, and our world.
• “George Spelvin Day” (female variation ‘Georgette’), commemorating the 1886 invention of the fictitious name used on Broadway for actors who have a 2nd role in a play. The name has appeared in over 10,000 Broadway programs. ‘Walter Plinge’ is similarly used in the UK.
• “I Love to Write Day”, started by author John Riddle, who wanted a day set aside so that everyone, no matter their age, could spend some time writing. It doesn’t matter what you write today, as long as you write what you want to write. (Alright?)
