BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
TODAY a 3-day conference begins at the University of Kansas that pays homage to the 50th anniversary of the first “Godzilla” movie, an excuse for international discussions on globalization, Japanese pop culture and Japanese-American relations since WW2 . . . TONIGHT the Bravo TV series “Long Way Round” premieres, featuring actor Ewan McGregor’s 3-month quest to go round-the-world, a 20,000-mile  trip on his motorcycle . . . Lindsay Lohan’s feverish debut album called “Speak” will be out DECEMBER 7th . . . While on honeymoon with new husband Kevin Federline in Fiji, Britney Spears is said to be guzzling the local fertility potion ‘kava’ on a daily basis in a bid to get pregnant . . . Actor Matthew McConaughey is the new face for Stetson fragrances and will begin appearing in print and TV ads later THIS YEAR . . . “The OC’s” Mischa Barton is in final negotiations to join Parker Posey & Danny DeVito in the indie feature “The OH in Ohio” (and that title’s no BS, believe it or not!) . . . Word has it Nicky Hilton, the soon-to-be-ex-Mr Todd Meister, wants to keep her diamond engagement ring,  which belonged to Meister’s late mother and is reportedly valued at a million smackers (have your parents taught you absolutely no couth, child?) . . . “The Simple Life 3″ started taping YESTERDAY with Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie traveling via a working Greyhound bus for 4 weeks – one also being used by real passengers (oh please stop, take my first-born!).

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Eminem – TONIGHT he stages the “Shady National Convention” at NYC’s Roseland Ballroom, performing tracks from his new album “Encore”.
• Switchfoot – TONIGHT they’re on “Late Show With David Letterman“.
• Ashlee Simpson – TONIGHT she’s on NBC-TV’s “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” live … or at least sorta.
• U2 – In late NOVEMBER Apple’s iTunes Music Store will make available “The Complete U2”, allowing fans to download more than 400 U2 tracks onto a customized iPod in a single click. The bundle will sell for $149 but you’ll also need the 20 GB U2 iPod, which will sell for $349.
• Marc Broussard – The 22-year-old “Where You Are” singer from Carencro LA calls himself ‘a white boy singing soul music’.
• Frou Frou – “Let Go” was featured on the soundtrack of the Zack Braff/Natalie Portman movie “Garden State” released in this past summer.
• REM – “Aftermath” has been chosen as the 2nd single from their new album “Around the Sun”, and will be released in late NOVEMBER.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:
Madonna & director hubby Guy Ritchie may have made one of the biggest flops in recent movie history (“Swept Away”) but that isn’t stopping them from teaming up again on the new gangster flick “Revolver”, which began shooting THIS WEEK in London . . . Madonna has also signed to provide the voice of ‘Princess Selenia’ in the family animated feature “Arthur”, based on the popular kid’s books by Marc Brown . . . Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Sandra Bullock, Ashley Judd & Uma Thurman are all in talks to appear in a remake of the 1939 film comedy “The Women”, and Mick Jagger is said to be working on the  soundtrack . . . Newly-retired TV talk host Greg Kinnear has signed on for the remake of “The Bad News Bears” alongside Billy Bob Thornton . . . Renee Zellweger’s planned Janis Joplin biopic has been shelved because producers can’t decide on a script, leaving the way clear for a rival project starring Pink as the legendary blues singer . . . And Jamie Foxx has Will Smith to thank for his role as ‘Detective Ricardo Tubbs‘ in the upcoming movie version of “Miami Vice” because Will reportedly turned it down.
 
CRANKED-UP KIDS:
When adults are sleepy they act like it, but children do the opposite says Sharon Keenan, director of the School of Sleep Medicine in Palo Alto CA. Children’s lack of focus, inability to concentrate and crankiness often leads to a mis-diagnosis of hyperactivity or attention-deficit disorder. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 11 to 13 hours of sleep for preschoolers, and 10 to 11 hours for up to 5th grade.

The ‘SwiMP3′ player uses bone conduction – the direct transfer of sound vibrations from the cheek bone to the inner ear – to provide the swimmer with exceptional sound clarity. DRINK TEA AND DON’T FORGET:  
A cup of tea can help to sharpen your gray cells. New research at Britain’s Newcastle University shows that drinking regular cups of tea improves memory prowess. The results of lab tests suggest that both green and black tea enhance the activity of enzymes in the brain associated with memory. The discovery could lead to the development of a new treatment for Alzheimer’s.

ANIMAL CRUELTY:
A survey by the Pet Supplies Plus store chain finds that 46% of dog and cat owners plan to dress their pets in some form of Halloween costume. The most popular pet get-ups – devils, angels, witches and clowns. Another company, Compass Marketing, offers a full array of dog Halloween costumes, including cheerleader and Elvis outfits, even wedding gowns. (Serves you right if your Rottweiler comes back to bite you in the butt after you dress him in a tutu.)
