Eat, Breath Sheet!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
TONIGHT at Madison Square Garden in New York, an adult contemporary-themed concert will bring together Martina McBride, Celine Dion, Josh Groban & Five for Fighting (a promotion by NYC’s 106.7 Lite FM) . . . TONIGHT Regis Philbin will be the roastmaster as this year’s annual “Friars Club Celebrity Roast” flames Donald Trump in New York . . . Thanks to the NHL lock-out, SATURDAY night is “Movie Night in Canada” on CBC-TV as host Ron MacLean introduces 3 films – “Dinosaur”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Jaws” (Watch for Don Cherry be on ‘Director’s Corner’ – “These foreigners chasing the ark are wimps …”) . . . NBC-TV will solicit viewer feedback on how SUNDAY night’s episode of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” should end, then the ending will be revealed on the OCTOBER 24th episode (both potential endings will be available on the network’s Website) . . . Surprise, surprise – “Us Weekly” reports Nicky Hilton’s quickie Vegas marriage AUGUST 15th to money manager Todd Meister is about to end in annulment (wow, seems these middle-of-the-night, booze-fueled marriages just aren’t working) . . . 58-year-old “Shall We Dance” co-star Susan Sarandon has taken up dancing in real life – belly dancing that is, as a way to stay in shape (no wonder “Playboy” mag is still after her) . . . NBC’s “Today” anchor Katie Couric & “That ’70s Show” producer Tom Werner (also co-owner of the Boston Red Sox) have split up after a 4-year romance (ironically he just recently finally got a divorce) . . . Construction of the $190 million set for “King Kong”, to be directed by “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson, is rumored to be way behind schedule (hey, building a replica of the Empire State Building takes time) . . . ABC News has accidentally posted Sharon Osbourne’s obituary on its Website, a spokesperson quickly apologizing and blaming a technical error (yeah, that she’s still alive) . . . Promotion of the year? London’s X-FM radio is offering £10,000 in a contest where listeners compete to track down the most celebs and get them to call the morning show, which so far has attracted calls from actresses Dame Judi Dench and Kate Winslet – who offered to giveaway her underwear!
BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Britney Spears – She tells Germany’s “Bunte” magazine she wants to change her name to Britney Federline, but ‘society’ probably won’t let her.
• Lloyd Banks – The G-Unit rapper has a deal with adult entertainment company Digital Sin to direct the video “Groupie Luv”. (They just took a camera backstage?)
• P Diddy – He says the hardest thing he’s ever done, but also the most rewarding, was acting in the Broadway show “A Raisin in the Sun”. He admits he suffered stage fright during every performance and on one occasion was so nervous he got diarrhea while onstage. (Um, that’s too much information, P.)
• Bjork – The wacked Icelandic singer claims she turned down the chance to star as one of “Charlie’s Angels”. She says she was offered an audition before the parts were given to Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz & Lucy Liu.
• Sum 41 – TONIGHT they’re on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien”.
TODAY’S MOVIE OPENINGS:
• “Team America: World Police” (R-rated Comedy): Marionette superheros fight to end terrorism and put tired celebrities out of their misery. To avoid a dreaded NC-17 rating for this political satire, “South Park” creators Matt Stone & Trey Parker had to trim a puppet sex scene – and in the process racked up millions of dollars worth or free publicity. Still, the film carries an MPAA warning of ‘Graphic, crude and sexual humor, violent images and strong language … all involving puppets.’ (“Pinnochio” it ain’t!)
• “Shall We Dance?” (PG-13 Romantic Comedy): Richard Gere plays a lonely workaholic who avoids his wife (Susan Sarandon) & family by spending long hours at the office. On a train ride home, he sees a beautiful woman (Jennifer Lopez) in the window of a dance studio and impulsively signs up for ballroom dancing lessons. The filming location was moved to Winnipeg from Toronto because of the SARS ‘scare’ in early 2003. About $4,000 worth of jewelry that Susan Sarandon wore during shooting was stolen from a vehicle on the set but later recovered at a murder scene in a downtown Winnipeg hotel room.
TOP MOVIE PREZ:
“Mr Smith Goes to Washington” may have won Turner Classic Movies’ poll of top political movie ever, but James Stewart’s character would likely fold if he met ‘President James Marshall’ in a dark alley. ‘President Marshall’, the Harrison Ford role in “Air Force One”, has been selected by “Maxim” magazine as the greatest movie president of all-time. ‘Marshall’ defeated such chief executives as ‘Thomas Whitmore’ (“Independence Day”), ‘Mays Gilliam’ (“Head of State”) and ‘Dave Kovic’ (“Dave”). In fact, the final battle was between ‘Marshall’ and ‘Merkin Muffley’, the Adlai Stevenson-inspired president in “Dr Strangelove”. (‘Marshall’ wonn but ‘Muffley’ has funnier phone calls.)
– “Maxim” NOVEMBER issue.
WAIT TILL THE “ENQUIRER” GETS A HOLD OF ONE OF THESE!
Japan’s Casio Corp has developed a digital camera that can blend 2 photos without the need of a personal computer. When the ‘combine’ button is pushed, the camera’s software ‘stitches’ 2 pictures together by correcting color and contrast mismatches. (Well, seems [co-host’s] wife CAN get a breast enhancement., after all.)
– “New Scientist”
ANNUAL LOVE POLL:
Condom maker Durex surveyed more than 350,000 people worldwide for its annual poll and found the global average for frequency of lovemaking is 103 times per year. Other highlights …
• France is on top when it comes to frequency (137 times a year), followed by Greece (133), and Hungary (131). America ranks in the middle of the pack at 111 times. At the bottom of the frequency spectrum – Singapore (79) and Japan (46).
• Worldwide average time devoted to foreplay – 19.7 minutes.
• Fully 40% of Japanese say they have faked an orgasm in the past year.
• More than a third of lovers worldwide admit to having used pornography to spice things up.

CHEAP SOUVENIRS:
The Holiday Inn chain loses more than 550,000 towels a year to light-fingered customers. An international study by the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology concludes that British consumers have the worst attitude about taking things from hotel bedrooms. It is estimated that up to 5% of hotel towels disappear each year in the UK. (But NO one seems to steal the complimentary toothbrushes.)

“D&D” TURNS 30:
“Dungeons & Dragons”, the role-playing game created by Gary Gygax & Dave Arneson in 1974, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Game fans worldwide will be gathering SATURDAY to mark the occasion by attempting to set a record for the largest-ever gathering of game players. Also celebrating the anniversary – a new coffee-table book, “30 Years of Adventure: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons”, is being released that includes contributions from actor Vin Diesel, “The Daily Show’s” Stephen Colbert, musician Ben Kweller and others.
