• Warner Bros has scrapped plans to give Part 1 of the final ‘Harry Potter’ movie a 3-D makeover. But it’s more to do with timing than art. A studio rep has confirmed the 3-D conversion couldn’t be completed in time for the movie’s November 19th release. As a result, the film makes history by becoming the first major motion picture to cancel a previously announced 3-D release. Part 2 of “Deathly Hallows” will definitely get the 3-D treatment in time for its release next Summer.

• 44-year-old actress Halle Berry has reportedly stepped up her rumored romance with 44-year-old French actor Olivier Martinez (“Unfaithful”) by introducing him to her mother in Los Angeles. The twosome first became an item while shooting the movie “Dark Tide” (coming in 2011) in South Africa and now it seems Berry is willing to take the rumored relationship to the next level.

• 39-year-old actress Denise Richards is writing an autobiography in which she promises to tell all about her journey from small-town Illinois to Hollywood, her tumultuous marriage & divorce from actor Charlie Sheen, and her life since as a single mom. The currently untitled memoir is expected to be released next July. Richards says she wants to write ‘a heartfelt, honest book that will be a source of hope for others going through difficult times’. • Musician Ben Harper (“Live From the Montréal International Jazz Festival”) has reportedly stunned actress Laura Dern (“Jurassic Park” movies) by filing for divorce late Friday afternoon. The 2-time Grammy winner filed legal docs citing irreconcilable differences and is asking that Dern be denied spousal support. The papers claim Harper & Dern separated back in January but people connected with the couple, who married in 2005, say they’ve been living and traveling together throughout this year and appeared to be intimate as recently as last week.

• Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band – Max Weinberg reveals to “Fancast” that he underwent open heart surgery earlier this year, which contributed to his decision to split with Conan O’Brien and not join his upcoming TBS talk show. The drummer had valve repair surgery just 2 weeks after O’Brien’s final “Tonight Show” for NBC-TV.
• John Lennon – Saturday, on the 70th anniversary of his birth, his first wife Cynthia (71) and son Julian (47) unveiled the 18-foot ‘European Peace Monument’ in Liverpool UK in his honor.
• Katy Perry – She’s revealed on Twitter she’ll announce her upcoming tour plans behind her sophomore album “Teenage Dream” today. She recently shot the video for “Firework”, the 3rd single off the album.
• Rolling Stones – 66-year-old Keith Richards has spent 3 years writing his memoir called “Life”, which will be published at the end of the month. In it he admits that he carried guns for protection when he went to buy drugs at the height of his addiction. And he still carries a 4-inch knife tucked in his belt to deal with muggers.
• Taylor Swift – Her former manager has filed a lawsuit claiming he’s owed millions in commissions for playing a key role in building her career before she signed with Nashville-based Big Machine Records. Dan Dymtrow, who managed her in 2004-05, has filed the suit in NYC.
LAPTOP THIGH:
A portable computer may be called a ‘laptop’, but there could be a price to pay for using it on your lap regularly, say dermatologists. The heat generated by the underside of the machines is enough to cause a nasty rash, especially if used against bare skin for hours at a time. The journal “Pediatrics” cites the case of a 12-year-old who developed discolored skin after playing games for hours. Not to worry … the symptoms seem to be reversible and the rash should cause no lasting ill-effects. (Here’s a helpful solution … put some pants on!)

VARIEGATED VEGETABLE:
A new purple potato that growers claim is healthier than the standard variety is now beginning to show up in supermarkets. The ‘Purple Majesty’ has a distinctive deep color both inside and out and contains up to 10 times the level of the antioxidant ‘anthocyanins’ compared with white potatoes. It was developed at Colorado State University from a traditional variety. Despite its unusual appearance, the potato is not genetically modified. (It may be good for you … but it sure looks ugly with gravy on it.)

GONNA MAKE YOU SWEAT:
The adage ‘men perspire, women glow’ is actually correct, according to Japanese researchers, who have found that men are much more efficient at sweating. One reason is that women have less body fluid so they can not lose as much as men. And previous studies have shown that men have a higher sweat output than women in part because testosterone is believed to enhance the sweating response. This could mean women suffer more in hot temperatures as sweating helps the body deal with heat. (On the upside … they’re far less stinky.)

About 200 Oxfordshire homes have become the first in the UK to make use of gas made from … their own human waste. As a renewable energy source, the ‘biomethane’ is delivered through the energy grid the same as any other natural gas. A rep for British Gas assures it has no odor and the whole process takes about 23 days from flush to finish. He suggests customers should be proud of taking part in the unusual recycling effort. (Should some people get discounts for productivity?)
