Ahhh, Some BS to Look Forward to In the Morning!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Just in time for Halloween California-based company Costumeish is selling a ‘Parisian Heist Robbery Victim Costume Kit’. While the description doesn’t explicitly name Kim Kardashian, it does reference ‘The Queen of Social Media’. The kit comes with a short white sexy robe, a long black wig, a ‘4-million-dollar’ ring, large sunglasses, a fake gag, and 2 feet of rope. The cost: $ 69.99 (or make your own for a lot less). The site is also selling an ‘Adult Bruce Gender Olympian Costume’ and a ‘Donald the Wall Builder Costume’.

★ The Cyrus family has landed a new reality TV series. Miley Cyrus’ mother, Tish Cyrus, and her sister, Brandi, are set to star in the new show about interior design. ★ Jay Z is producing a TV miniseries about the US Army’s first African-American sniper. The series centers on Nicholas Irving, credited as the 3rd Ranger Battalion’s deadliest sniper and is based on his 2015 memoir, “The Reaper: Autobiography of One Of the Deadliest Special Ops Snipers”. Sterling K Brown (“The People v OJ Simpson”) is starring in the 6-hour NBC-TV miniseries. The project is part of Jay Z’s new 2-year film & TV deal with The Weinstein Co.

★ And this week Emma Watson has called on leaders across Africa to make tribal weddings between young girls and older men illegal. The 26-year-old actress, who’s been visiting Malawi in her role as a UN Goodwill Ambassador, has met with traditional leaders who have championed the annulment of child marriages in their communities. Malawi has recently made child marriage illegal, but some local tribal chiefs have not recognized the legislation.

• Green Day – Billie Joe Armstrong spent 9 months in acting boot camp to prepare himself for his first movie lead. He plays a washed-up punk rocker in writer/director Lee Kirk’s new film “Ordinary World”. Kirk admits he didn’t have Armstrong in mind when he wrote the movie, assuming he’d have to hire an actor who plays music rather than the other way around.
• Luke Bryan – He’s vowing to keep his scheduled tour dates after undergoing surgery on his arm for a broken clavicle suffered in a biking accident last week. Quote: “Will be all good for Wednesday.” His Luke Bryan Farm Tour 2016 plays Batesville MS tonight.
• Rihanna – A source tells E! News she and Drake are in an ‘open relationship’ and seeing other people at the moment. They were thought to have split but the report suggests they’re just not exclusive anymore. Drake has been spending time with model India Love recently.

THE BASICS OF BEAUTY:
British historian Dr Tracy Borman has researched some of the common characteristics of female beauty throughout history. Among them …
• Royalty – From the time of Cleopatra, being royal has endowed women with an almost mythical status.
• Wealth – This has been depicted in a variety of ways, from the plumpness of the women in Rubens’s paintings to the elaborateness of the costumes worn by royals and aristocracy.
• Charisma – This goes a long way toward explaining the appeal of such ‘plain-Jane’ women as Mary, Queen of Scots, whose attraction is hard to understand from her portraits.
– “History”

BS BUZZWORDS:
Cutting-edge vocab …
• ‘Freakshake’ – A milkshake made with ice cream and other sweet foods including cream, chocolate, and cake.
• ‘Frosé’ – A type of alcoholic drink made of frozen rosé wine mixed with sugar, lemon juice, and sometimes … other alcoholic drinks
• ‘Roller Skis’ – Skis fitted with wheels á la roller blades, allowing avid fans to stretch the ski season from 3 months to 12.

BS SOCIAL STUDIES:
• Recent research suggests that up to 90% of women wear shoes that are too small and 75% of foot surgery performed on women is due to poor-fitting footwear. (Fashion tip … you just can’t beat the comfort of good ol’ gum boots!)
– “Health Magazine”
• 44% of men, but just 22% of women, claim they would tell a co-worker they have a body odor problem according to a recent magazine survey. (And men are so subtle … “By the way Jay, you freakin’ stink!”)
– “Men’s Health”
• A 20-year study in England suggests that youngsters whose school desks are in rows and face the blackboard work twice as hard as those who study in groups around a big table. (They would have finished the study a long time ago … but they were sitting in a group around a big table.)
– “Focus”

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …
• 70% of women do not want their significant other to buy lingerie for them.
• 50% of us have asked a stranger to lend us their cellphone charger.
• 40% of people insist on taking their own salad dressing when going out to eat.
• 35% admit of parents they have skipped pages while reading bedtime stories to their kids.
• 33% of people floss before they take a selfie.
• 30% of married women have to remind their husbands to brush their teeth at least once a week.

HOW TO LOOK GOOD:
‘Fluff’ phrases abound in résumés, according to a survey. Researchers examined the skills cited by job-seekers on more than 160,000 CVs and found that fully half of them used one or more vague phrases to describe their work skills and experience. The top 5 ‘fluff phrases’ are: ‘communication skills’, ‘team player’, ‘organizational skills’, ‘interpersonal skills’, and ‘driven’. Experts say a more effective résumé shows, rather than tells, what you’ve accomplished. For example: Swap ‘communication skills’ with ‘facilitated 12 leadership development workshops’ or ‘presented monthly financial reports for the board of directors’. (Or ‘Achieved regular advancement by kissing up to the boss’.)
