BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Another round of lawsuits has been filed against Sean “Diddy” Combs, including the allegation that he drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl with an unnamed “male celebrity”, as an unnamed “female celebrity” watched, at a VMAs afterparty in New York in 2000. The Buzbee Law Firm, which said on Oct. 1 that it would be presenting 120 more lawsuits against Combs, filed 5 new suits in the Southern District of New York on Sunday night. Two more suits were also filed in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

★ “Avengers” star Josh Brolin is set to join Glen Powell in the remake of the classic action movie “The Running Man”. The original, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, was based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. The remake will follow the same premise as the 1987 movie, but will be set in 2025 in a dystopian United States. Set for release in Nov. 2025, it will also star Karl Glusman, “Mission: Impossible 8’s” Katy O’Brian, Lee Pace and Daniel Ezra.

The chicken firm will debut “Chick-Fil-A Play” on November 18. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift — gifted Swifties at her Miami show on Saturday with a new mashup of 2 surprise songs. Footage shows her sitting at her piano, performing “The Tortured Poets Department” tune ‘loml’, then switching to the 2009 “Fearless” track ‘White Horse’, and the crowd went wild. Then she began seamlessly alternating alternating between the 2. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4krv4jm4
• Halsey — The latest artist she’s impersonating while counting down to her new album “The Great Impersonator” is … Halsey. That is, the 2015 version of herself, the year she released her debut album. She shared a snippet of her new song ‘Hurt Feelings’, and wrote: “The new album takes place across decades, so I feel it’s only right to honor the album I wrote a decade ago.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/33wb8uer
• Alanis Morissette – says there was no “sisterhood” of female artists in the ’90s. Speaking about starting her career in the male-dominated music industry, she said: “The pervasive messaging was very much: You pick a lane, and you stay in it. And if you step out…it’s career suicide.” The industry has evolved since then, and she feels there are now “allowances for us to be multitudinous” (whatever that means).
• Linkin Park – will release the new single and music video ‘Over Each Other’ on Thursday. The clip was directed by the band’s Joe Hahn, who handled the band’s classic music videos including ‘Numb’, ‘From the Inside’, and others, as well as the recent single ‘The Emptiness Machine’. The album “From Zero” drops Nov. 15.
• Van Halen – Alex Van Halen said in an interview that despite rumors, he hasn’t retired, and plans to keep making new music. He added that spine issues and an injury sustained in 2022 were causing him problems, but “with modern technology…I should be OK in about 5 years.” “When the time is right”, he plans to work on more unfinished music that he and the late Eddie Van Halen started.
• Luke Combs – He and his wife Nicole spent Friday night cheering Taylor Swift at her Miami show. Nicole shared a recap, posting photos of the couple and a group of friends attending the show. Nicole must be a huge fan: Her “Reputation”-styled outfit included a strappy black corset-style top and sequined black pants. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/58c4vu9y
• Lainey Wilson – has a new BFF. Her shows often include a moment where she brings a young female fan onstage to wear the title of “Cowgirl of the Night.” But she found a special girl on Friday in Raleigh NC. Young Savannah told Wilson that they’ve got similar values, having been raised in the country by a farmer father. Wilson responded: “Y’all, I think I just met my best friend.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/37x5brbw
• Dan + Shay – dropped their new 21-song holiday record “It’s Officially Christmas: The Double Album” on Friday. It includes covers of classics like ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ and ‘Silent Night’, plus originals, such as ‘Break Up on Christmas’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/59jkbnah
SHOOTING THE BULL
UTENSIL PREFERENTIAL:
Finally, we have an answer to that age-old question – and not the one about the Caramilk bar. We’ll probably never know that one. But if you’d like to know for sure whether you should load silverware in the dishwasher facing up…or down, I’ve got the answer for you. According to Jessica Ek, spokesperson for the American Cleaning Institute, the main thing you should be concerned about isn’t which way it is facing, but what’s loaded next to it. The key is to not sort your silverware by item, but to mix up the utensils so the spoons don’t end up ‘nesting’ together, which would prevent them from being cleaned properly. But that doesn’t answer the important question of “up or down?” Ek says how you load them is a safety issue, and for that reason, the pointy sides should face down. This can help prevent injury, particularly if there are children helping load or unload the dishwasher. It also means you won’t have to touch the part that goes in your mouth when you’re unloading.
(On the other hand, if you’re not as concerned with cleanliness and safety, and more concerned about driving your spouse crazy…)
(…and tomorrow, we’ll start another potentially marriage-ending argument, when we ask: “Should you pre-rinse dishes before putting them in, or let the dishwasher do what God made it for?)

TECH TALK:
❑ Everyone, by now, is aware of the dangers of distracted driving. But new research from the University of British Columbia indicates we should also be concerned about…distracted walking. The study found alarming differences in behavior between pedestrians engrossed in their mobile devices and those who remain alert to their surroundings. Using advanced video analysis techniques, the team examined the behavior of pedestrians and drivers during near-miss incidents at busy intersections. It was found that pedestrians using their phones tend to walk slower, and in closer proximity to vehicles compared to their non-distracted counterparts. They also rarely yield to oncoming traffic. This suggests a significant decrease in awareness of their surroundings. Non-distracted pedestrians, as you might expect, engaged in safer behavior, maintaining greater distances from vehicles, yielding more frequently, and adjusting their speeds according to the traffic situation, indicating a higher level of responsiveness to potential dangers. (But on the other hand, they missed seeing a lot of really hilarious cat videos!)
❑ Some Apple Watch users say they are amazed by their device’s ability to predict colds, flu, and even COVID, days before they hit. The astounding health assessments have been coming through the device’s “Vitals” app, since the rollout of the iOS 11 software update last month. Vitals takes critical metrics while a user is asleep, and if it detects readings outside the normal range, it sends a notification to the user. Many people shared their experiences, including a Reddit user who wrote: “The Vitals app knew I was sick 3 days before I did.” Another said it “detected a few things with my vitals days before I tested positive for COVID.” (The only thing mine has discovered is that I’m not nerdy enough to wear a watch to bed!)

SPEAK, ROVER, SPEAK!
A company is selling a pet collar that it claims it claims will help your dog or cat talk to you. The collar, named “Shazam”, measures your dog’s vitals – and uses AI to form sentences. The collar has a speaker on it, and the owner is instructed to talk to their pet, and it will respond (or the collar will…) with a human voice, creating the illusion that your pet has a humanlike personality and the ability to speak English. The collar, which costs $595, is just for cats and dogs now, the hope is that there will be enough interest that the company will be able to eventually offer talking collars for other critters.
(Who wants to be the first person to try to put one of those things around a bull’s neck?)
(…and eventually, also one for that guy you see all alone in the corner of the lunchroom every day!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Having too many toys is not good for your child. According to a study by researchers at the University of Toledo, having an abundance of toys reduced the quality of toddlers’ play. Cutting back on toys was found to encourage creativity, leading kids to create their own stories and invent new games and activities. Playing with fewer toys also helps them avoids overstimulation, and develops appreciation, helping children learn the responsibility that comes with looking after them. (I’d just like to take a moment to point out to my dear wife, if she’s listening, that this study is about KIDS, and the findings in no way corelate to adults who have too many toys!)

BS CHRONOMETER 10.22.24
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY”, the annual celebration of one of the more useful keys on the keyboard (Unlike ‘Scroll Lock’). Today, you’re encouraged to make use of the CAPS LOCK key on your keyboard or keypad. (But remember, the day is not called “ALL CAPS ALL DAY” day…)
• “International Stuttering Awareness Day”, originated in 1998 to raise public awareness of the millions who suffer from the speech disorder. LINK: http://www.stutteringhelp.org
• “Nut Day”. Ask anyone to name a nut, and most will say ‘peanut’, which isn’t a nut at all, but a legume. Definition of a nut: “A hard, dry, indehiscent fruit formed from 2 or more carpels but containing only 1 seed.” It’s one of nature’s most perfect foods. (BTW, ‘indehiscent’ means “not splitting open to release the seeds when ripe”)
• “Eat a Pretzel Day”. Soft or hard, twisted into a knot or straight, large or small, salted or plain, served with mustard or cheese—there are many types of pretzels and ways to eat them. (And eat them I shall!)
• “Smart is Cool Day”, a day to celebrate those who are often labeled ‘egghead’ or ‘smarty-pants’. If there’s ever a time to show off your IQ test results, this is probably it.
• “Make a Dog’s Day”. It’s an initiative to help shelter pets find homes. But you can also celebrate by helping make all dogs feel loved are cared for.
• “Used Car Dealership Day”, marking the opening of the world’s first used car dealership on this day in London, England in 1897. (“What do I have to do to put you in this car today?”)
• “Clean Up the Earth Day”. Exactly 6 months after Earth Day, this is a day to reflect on the progress that has been made to make a cleaner world in the past half-year, and a day to redouble efforts to make the world a cleaner place in the future.
• “National Color Day”, to learn how colors can affect both body and mind, and to encourage us to learn about how colors can influence mood, emotions, productivity, and behavior. (Sounds pretty black and white to me…)
