Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kate Beckinsale is taking legal action against the producers of her 2024 thriller “Canary Black”. Her complaint claims: “Ms. Beckinsale and her team repeatedly raised red flags regarding unsafe conditions on and off set…including long, dangerous set days, often lasting 15 hours, inadequate equipment and medical personnel…and failure to adequately inform Ms. Beckinsale of what stunts she was expected to perform until often the moment she had to perform it.” In 2022, Beckinsale suffered a meniscus tear in her left knee while filming, which required surgery and halted production for months.

★ Netflix has set July 9 for the premiere of its music competition series “Building the Band”, with the late Liam Payne as guest judge. They wrapped the show prior to Payne’s death last October and had faced a dilemma over how to proceed. Payne’s “family reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion,” Netflix said in a statement. Payne died after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires. Five people have been charged in connection with his death.

★ A cartoon version of “Doctor Who” is heading to BBC pre-school channel CBeebies. The show will see the Doctor traveling through time and space for the pre-school audience, solving mysteries and problems alongside their companions and other friends. And, of course, they may come up against a few challenges on their way, the BBC said. The animation version of the show comes as the second season of “Dr. Who” has just wrapped, under returned showrunner Russell T. Davies.

★ Chris Robinson has died. His more than 100 TV and film roles were dominated by doctor characters on TV soaps to the extent that he appeared in a commercial saying: “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV,” which set off a national catchphrase and late-night TV punchline. Robinson died June 9 of heart failure in his sleep at his ranch near Sedona, Arizona. He was 86.

★ Disney and Universal have filed a copyright lawsuit against popular AI image-generator Midjourney, marking the first time major Hollywood companies have entered the legal battle over generative AI. The complaint claims Midjourney pirated the libraries of the 2 Hollywood studios to generate and distribute “endless unauthorized copies” of their famed characters, such as ‘Darth Vader’ and the Minions from “Despicable Me”.

He was away on tour.

I am lucky to have been his daughter and had a soul connection with him that will live on always.”
• Oasis — Liam Gallagher admitted it’s a shame he and brother Noel “wasted precious time” apart during their 15-year estrangement. NEW FAST-FOOD NEWS:
❑ Wendy’s has rolled out 3 exclusive new Powerade flavors through its Coca‑Cola Freestyle machines: ‘Powerade Extra Sour Cherry Kicker’, ‘Grape Shocker’, and ‘Peach Pucker’ — each available in both full‑sugar and sugar‑free versions. And in a bold twist, all 3 have an “extra sour” profile—Cherry, Grape, and Peach—with a tart edge. The company says the new flavors are aimed at keeping customers refreshed and replenished with electrolytes during the summer months. It seems to be part of a trend among fast‑food chains of launching unique beverages—think Taco Bell’s Baja Blast or KFC’s Sweet Lightning. (Why do I get the feeling that Wendy’s just came up with a drink that fights back?)
❑ KFC has joined the “dirty soda” game—and they’re doing it with help from Mountain Dew. This week, KFC restaurants began pouring a limited-edition Peaches and Cream Sweet Lightning soda. It’s a creamy, fruity spin on their exclusive Sweet Lightning drink. The new version is described as tasting like a honey creamsicle—with a smooth swirl of vanilla cream mixed in. The viral “dirty soda” trend is the mix-your-own soda craze that took off on TikTok, often involving cola, cream, syrups, and even candy. And the bonus twist with this one is you can add more vanilla cream swirl, to customize your cup. (Because fried chicken pairs best with melted creamsicles?)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, one of the world’s busiest, faced a bizarre security breach when a DoorDash driver accidentally ended up on the tarmac. The 36-year-old man followed his GPS into a restricted area and drove several miles along secure airport roads. He was eventually stopped near a plane at Gate C16. Despite the alarming breach, officials determined the driver was simply lost and meant no harm. No charges were filed—but the incident has raised serious questions about airport security and GPS navigation near sensitive areas. (“Requesting clearance for Runway Quesadilla…”)
➢ Guests at a recent wedding in Pinhalzinho, Brazil, were stunned when the bride arrived at the venue in a funeral hearse. But for 33-year-old Daniela Signor, it was the perfect tribute to how she met – and won — the heart of her now-husband: the local undertaker. She first spotted Apollo Scariot in early 2023 while attending a relative’s funeral. Instantly smitten, she quickly realized he was too focused on his duties to notice her. So, she came up with a bold plan: start showing up at local funerals. For nearly 2 years, she quietly attended services in their small town — always hoping for a moment of connection – and even giving family members a sympathetic hug, “just to see him”. Her persistence eventually paid off. The couple began dating, and last month they made their unusual love story official—with vows, rings — and a hearse entrance. (Love at first… funeral?)

STRANGE THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ARE CONSIDERED BAD LUCK:
(Yes, Friday the 13th can be daunting, but in some cultures, so are these…)
⇒ Wishing someone ‘Happy Birthday’ before their birthday: Many Germans believe doing so will cause misfortune to everyone involved. Instead, they sometimes gather the night before a birthday and begin celebrating exactly at midnight. (But I like to celebrate my birthday WEEK!)
⇒ Changing your bed on a Friday: An old wives’ tales says if you turn your mattress that day, you’ll be cursed with bad dreams. Others say the bad-luck day is Sunday. (Let’s just not do that anywhere near the weekend, OK?)
⇒ Carrying bananas on a ship: In the 1700s, many ships that were lost or shipwrecked were carrying bananas, so sailors, who were a superstitious bunch, decided that bananas on a boat meant bad news. (I’d be much more worried about banana PEELS on a boat, but…)
⇒ Renaming a boat: This goes back to ancient times, when sailors believed that the name of every boat was written in the ledger of Poseidon. If you dared change the name of a boat, you’d incur the sea god’s wrath. (Still, if you happen to buy a boat named “Titanic”, I’d change it…)
⇒ Mixing beers: In the Czech Republic, whose people drink more beer per capita than anywhere else, it’s believed that if you pour one type of beer into a mug containing another type, you’re in for some misfortune. (Especially if the guy whose beer you just stole is bigger than you…!)
⇒ Tuesday the 13th: While many cultures see Friday the 13th as bad news, in Spain, the 13th day of the month is unlucky when it falls on a Tuesday. In Spanish, the word for Tuesday is “Martes,” which comes from “Mars”, the Roman god of war, so Tuesday spells trouble.
(My psychic told me I’d have bad luck until I was 30. And after that I’d get used to it!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Recent grads say it’s more “anxiety-inducing” to negotiate their salary with an employer than it is to break up with a partner. A survey of 2,000 higher education graduates (from 2024 and 2025) gave respondents several scenarios, asking which would be more stressful. Results revealed that 54% believe negotiating their salary with a potential employer is worse than breaking up with a partner (39%). Recent graduates’ top worries, in order, were: “Getting a job in my sector/field”, “Paying off my student debt”, and “Paying my bills every month”. (Smart kids. At that age, my top worries were: “Where’s the party this weekend?”, and “Why am I not invited?”)

BS CHRONOMETER 06.13.25
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Kitchen Klutzes Day”, celebrating not-so-accomplished cooks by encouraging them to prepare a recipe that contains no more than 4 ingredients, not including water, salt & pepper. (Umm, does ketchup count?)
• “Weed Your Garden Day” … or maybe you could just start referring to it as a ‘wildflower display’?
• “World Softball Day”, to celebrate the sport, which is played by about 30 million people around the world. Today, you’re encouraged to get involved in softball as a way to promote physical activity, as well as international spirit and social integration. (And blown-out shoulders!)
• “Sewing Machine Day”. Thomas Saint patented the first sewing machine in 1790. Since then, it has become one of the iconic symbols of the Industrial Revolution. (Any idea how to work one of those things?)
• “International Axe Throwing Day”, a day to try your hand at skillfully lobbing this tree-felling instrument in a fun, competitive, and most of all, safe environment. (So, get to it…chop chop!) LINK: https://worldaxethrowingleague.com/
• “Random Acts of Light Day”, encouraging us to bring light to the darkness of cancer by surprising someone with an act of kindness.
• “Cupcake Lovers Day”. Cupcakes originated in Europe hundreds of years ago, and were made from a simple dough mixed with spices and baked in small cups. Over time, the recipe evolved, and cupcakes became a popular dessert all over the world. (And my reason for living…)
SATURDAY:
• “Bourbon Day”, a day to raise a glass of the sweetened amber spirit to celebrate the splendor of this great American whiskey. Most recipes use about 70% corn, which gives it its nickname of ‘corn whiskey’. Although the origin of the name ‘bourbon’ is unclear, contenders include Bourbon County in Kentucky and Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
• “Family History Day”, a day to ‘share the folklore, legends and myths of your family tree’.
(This message brought to you by ancestory.com…)
• “Strawberry Shortcake Day”. Either on a shortcake biscuit or on a sponge cake, strawberry shortcake is an easy and delicious summertime dessert.
• “World Blood Donor Day”, dedicated to thanking and celebrating blood donors. It occurs on the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, who created the ABO blood group system, which is still used today. (Whenever I’m sad, I just read my blood donor ID. It says “B positive”!)
• “American Flag Day”, commemorating the adoption of the ‘Stars & Stripes’ as the flag of the United States, which took place on June 14, 1777. National Flag Day was established by an act of Congress in 1949.
• “Pop Goes the Weasel Day”, celebrating the rhyme you’ve known since childhood, and the tune that sticks in your head every time it’s played by an ice cream truck . . . (The definition of anticipation? The look on a kid’s face when hearing that song while winding up a Jack in the Box!)
• “International Bath Day”. On this date, Archimedes, a Greek scientist and mathematician, was taking a bath when he noticed that the water level rose when he got in, and it occurred to him that the volume of an object could be measured by submerging it in water.
SUNDAY:
• “Father’s Day”, celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in June in about 90 countries, as a day to honor Dad and appreciate all he does. (Many other countries have a day for dad at other times in the year.) The first observance of a “Father’s Day” was on July 5, 1908, in a church in Fairmont, West Virginia. (***See “Less Popular Father’s Day Cards”, below***)
• “Fly a Kite Day”, on the anniversary of the date in 1752 when Benjamin Franklin flew a kite in a thunderstorm, with the intent of proving that lightning was caused by a discharge of electricity. It’s handy that today is also . . .
• “Global Wind Day”, a day for promoting wind, its power, and the possibilities it holds to change our world. (Keep your ‘wind’ jokes to yourself!)
• “Worldwide Day of Giving”, when you’re encouraged to do one of 3 simple activities: Give a stranger $10, volunteer, or donate $10. Then, share your story and inspire others to do the same!
• “Lobster Day”. In the past 100 years, lobsters have gone from being ‘peasant food’ to a delicacy. There are many ways to enjoy lobster, but the most popular cooking methods are boiling, baking, steaming, and grilling. (No wonder they have “shellfish steamed issues”!)
• “Nature Photography Day”, started in 2005 by the North American Photography Association, to salute a favorite hobby of camera buffs. (There is a big difference between photographing someone in ‘nature’ and ‘au naturel’. Be careful.)
• “Smile Power Day”, recognizing the 2nd-best thing you can do with your lips. (After whistling.)
• “World Elder Abuse Awareness Day”, the 20th annual, when we’re encouraged to show the world that we care about ending elder abuse and neglect, by wearing something purple. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2z8nsw8c
• “Justice for Janitors Day”. They’ve always faced an uphill battle to be recognized for the important work they do for public health and safety, and many are paid close to minimum wage. Today is to help them win better working conditions, respect at work, and to raise industry standards for all cleaners.
