BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Sean “Diddy” Combs has taken a hit in a sexual assault lawsuit he blew off, because a judge has slapped him with a $100 million default judgment. Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith claimed in his lawsuit Diddy drugged and sexually assaulted him at a 1997 party in Detroit. Cardello-Smith, who is currently incarcerated, sued for $100 million, but according to legal docs, it appears Diddy did not file an answer to the complaint. Diddy also did not show up for a Monday hearing for a default judgment, so the judge gave Cardello-Smith exactly what he requested — $100 million. The judge also set out a payment schedule: installment payments of $10 million per month, starting October 1. No comment so far from Diddy. (***See “Music Notes”, below for more Diddy***)

★ Adam Sandler is ready to take a swing at “Happy Gilmore 2” for Netflix. The streamer has announced that the sequel to the 1996 comedy is ready to start rolling, posting on X: “Happy Gilmore 2 is officially in production.” It included a photo from the set, showing a likeness of the Boston Bruins hockey jersey that Sandler’s character wore in the first film. Kyle Newacheck (“Murder Mystery”) will direct from a script co-written by Sandler. No plot details yet, but we do know that NFL star Travis Kelce will make a cameo. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdh3j6ew

★ Lala Kent has revealed the unique name of her second baby girl, 6 days after giving birth. The “Vanderpump Rules” star posted a black-and-white photo on Instagram of the newborn’s tiny feet on top of a blanket, and captioned it “Sosa Kent”. The 34-year-old Bravo personality is also the mother of 3-year-old daughter Ocean, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Randall Emmett. In 2022, Kent discussed her plans to conceive again with the help of a sperm donor on her co-star Scheana Shay’s “Scheananigans” podcast.

★ Tyrese Gibson was arrested in court on Monday for failing to pay ex-wife Samantha Lee child support. The “Fast & Furious” actor – who shares 5-year-old daughter Soraya with Lee – appeared before a judge in a Fulton County GA courtroom for his ongoing child support battle with his ex. The judge was reportedly fed up with Gibson’s refusal to pay the $10,000 a month he ordered him to begin paying last April, and held Gibson in contempt of court. He was placed in handcuffs and taken out of the courtroom. The judge told Gibson he could avoid jail if he paid $73,000, which includes $7,500 for Lee’s attorney fees, which Gibson was arranging, according to reports.

★ Johnny Depp’s career as an artist continues to blow up. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star will launch his first “immersive experiential exhibition” of his work, titled “A Bunch of Stuff,” next month in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. It will include “never-before-seen artworks, as well as many personal artifacts and ephemera from [Depp’s] studios” — and will “be akin to a studio visit with the man himself and stepping into his world.” The multimedia exhibition “A Bunch of Stuff” opens to the public Oct. 4, and fans can sign up for tickets at www.abunchofstuff.com .

SHOOTING THE BULL
EMOJIS UNLIMITED:
Apple-heads are loving the new iPhone emojis feature announced at the company’s annual event on Monday – but there’s one concern. With the launch of the iPhone 16, came news that it’ll come in brand new colors – and by using “Apple Intelligence”, which the phone has been designed for, users will be able to create their own emoji. The company said: “Emoji will be taken to an entirely new level with the ability to create original “Genmoji” by simply typing a description, or by selecting a photo of a friend or family member.” That’s right, users will be able to express themselves EXACTLY how they want, using their own custom emoji. One excited Apple-person wrote on X: “Creating new emoji just by typing them out?! I am SOLD!” But others, while impressed, also saw a potential problem. One said: “I totally can’t see this going wrong”, and another sarcastically wrote: “Surely this will end well.” The concern seems to be that use of the personalized emoji feature may become offensive, as people get used to it. Or as one person put it: “People are about to get REAL creative.”
(…and I thought people got creative before!)
(Here’s where you find out if someone you know was using the “eggplant” emoji innocently – or not!)

HOISTING THE CUP:
The Stanley tumbler craze may have just jumped the shark. Yes, they are still very popular, and apparently, you’re just not cool unless you’re hauling a 1½ gallon…I mean liter…mug around with you all day long. But TikTok is being bombarded with vids titled “pack my Stanley with me”, where well-hydrated people add loads of accessories – basically making their tumbler a carrying case for other items. Like what? You’ll see people putting mini-backpacks into their insulated monster cups. Some fill the straw with items such as lip balm. Others have holders for rings or pills, such as Advil or Tylenol, which can be attached to the handle. And because ‘why not?’, some add on mini Stanley keychains, so even their Stanleys have Stanleys. Want more? Some Stanley TikTok’ers are also using snack trays for their cups. Detachable silicone snack trays are out there, with sections for multiple snacks. The trays have a hole in the middle to go around the top of the cup, for a hands-free snack experience. Also available are straw covers and caps, spill stoppers, protective bumpers for the bottom of the cups, ice trays made specifically for the tumbler – and of course, carrying straps and holders. (The good news: With all that stuff, now you don’t have to carry a purse!)
(I know! My daughter packs her whole lunch in hers – The only problem is that she has to buy a drink!)

KETCHUP CATCH UP:
Heinz has been toying with the idea of selling something called “ketchup sprinkles”. And while at this point, it’s not an actual “real product” that you can buy, it makes one wonder if it might become one someday. Apparently mindful of the fact that the Dutch love to dip French in their beloved mayonnaise, Heinz has been engaging in some clever marketing for the novelty idea of ketchup sprinkles, in much the same way that you may have heard of when McDonald’s announced “French Fry Perfume” in Japan. In an effort to encourage Dutch people to try ketchup as a French fry dip, Heinz turned its ketchup into what is apparently the only thing they love more than mayo: Sprinkles. The company is marketing a very limited supply of ketchup “hagelslag,” which are typically chocolate sprinkles that Dutch people love to put on bread. It was presented in a video, calling it the “most Dutch product we’ve ever made”. The clip shows a transparent ketchup bottle, filled with red sprinkles, and marked “Heinz Hagelchup”. The company admits the campaign is more a stunt than an attempt to market a new product, saying they just want to make people smile. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5ev28dvy
(What’s funny about that? I’D buy it!)
(Great idea! The problem is that if this becomes a thing, some crazy dude is going to start using it as a sundae topping!)

‘HAPPINESS HACKS’ BACKED BY SCIENCE (including some you’re almost guaranteed to hate…):
University of Bristol researchers say that you’ll only experience the lasting benefits of happiness if you practice these tips regularly. In a study, those who did were found to have better mental wellbeing 2 years later…
✓ Conducting acts of kindness: It’s true! Just try it.
✓ Increasing social connections: For example, try striking up conversations with strangers. (People really do this?)
✓ Savoring experiences: For that matter, savor each meal as well. You’d be surprised how good a ham sandwich can taste if you really pay attention!
✓ Drawing attention to the positive parts of your days: For example, write down “3 Good Things” that happened today.)
✓ Expressing gratitude: Try writing a gratitude letter to someone you never properly thanked.
✓ Getting sufficient sleep: The researchers pointed out that while 7-plus hours is recommended, some people may need 8 or 9 hours in order to be well-rested.
✓ Engaging in physical activity: OK, this one may not bring you happiness at first…!
✓ Trying out mindfulness and other meditation practices: It can’t hurt – unlike that last one about physical activity!

DID YOU KNOW?
The idea that aliens may have visited the Earth is becoming more popular. About one-fifth of UK citizens believe Earth has been visited by ETs, and 7% believe they have actually seen a UFO. The figures are even higher in the US. Twenty-four percent of Americans say they have seen a UFO. And belief in a cover-up is even higher. In 2019, a poll found that a staggering 68% of Americans believed “the US government knows more about UFOs than it is telling”. (But remember, these are some of the same people who believe there was no moon landing!)

BS CHRONOMETER 09.11.24
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “9/11 Remembrance Day” (Patriot Day in the US). 23 years ago, at 8:46 am EDT, terrorists began the attack on NYC’s World Trade Center using hijacked airliners. The Pentagon in Arlington VA was subsequently targeted, and an attempt by passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 to retake control of their hijacked plane caused it to crash in a Pennsylvania field, killing all 64 people on board. Patriot Day is in memory of those killed in the attacks.
• “Emergency Number Day”, saluting the direct-dial 9-1-1 emergency system. (In the UK it’s 9-9-9; in Australia 0-0-0, in New Zealand 1-1-1, in much of Europe 1-1-2)
• “Women’s Baseball Day”, commemorating this date in 1875, when the first women’s baseball game where fans were charged and players were paid took place. It was between “Blondes” and “Brunettes” and was held in Springfield IL. (Is it time for a pro women’s baseball league? After all, we have the WNBA [basketball] and PWHL [hockey].)
• “Hot Cross Buns Day”, saluting the sweet, spiced bun made with currants or raisins and leavened with yeast. As the name suggests, these baked goodies are marked with a cross on the top, which is supposed to symbolize the crucifixion. (Now? I thought they were an ‘Easter’ thing??)
• “Make Your Bed Day”. Many of us don’t make our beds every morning. Today, start this good habit, because will make you feel better, and it is also improves your sleep. (Plus, if your spouse is still in there, it’ll drive him/her nuts!)
• “No News is Good News Day”, a day to take a break from all the bad news about catastrophes, disasters, crisis and sorrow. It’s a good opportunity to turn off the news for a while, enjoy the silence and stop thinking about all the bad things. (Turn off the news? This public service message NOT brought to you by this station!!)
• “I Want to Start My Own Business Day”. If you really want to start your own business, the first step is to write down your goal. (After that? Uh…I don’t have a clue…)
