BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
[***UPDATE***] ★ Infamous televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, whose multimillion-dollar ministry and huge audience dwindled following his prostitution scandals, has died. A cause wasn’t given, though Swaggart had been in ill health. The Louisiana native was best known as a captivating Pentecostal preacher with a massive following before being caught on camera with a prostitute in New Orleans in 1988. He famously admitted on TV “I have sinned”, and was defrocked by the Assemblies of God. He continued preaching for decades, and in 1991 was caught with another prostitute. Jimmy Swaggart was 90.

★ Not one, but 2 castmembers from “The Secret Lives of Morman Wives” are joining “Dancing with the Stars” for Season 34. Whitney Leavitt and Jennifer Affleck were announced Monday night during a reunion special. As #MomTokers, which is short for Morman influencers, Leavitt and Affleck have seen their star power skyrocket with the success of the reality show, which launched in 2024. They join wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin and influencer Alix Earle for the new season. The full cast of celebrities and pro dancers for Season 34 will be announced later.

★ Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are officially set to return for “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” which has now started production. In addition to the stars of the original 2006 film, Kenneth Branagh will join the cast as the husband of Streep’s ‘Miranda Presley’, the demanding editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. Disney’s 20th Century Studios confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing just a teaser of 2 devilish red pumps. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdh9j4dt

★ J.K. Rowling has once again clapped back at Pedro Pascal after he reignited their feud during a recent interview. Their latest war of words came after Pascal accused Rowling of being a “heinous loser” for her views on women’s rights, doubling down on comments he made earlier this year. The feud began when Rowling praised a Supreme Court ruling that protected women-only spaces, sparking outrage from Pascal. He revisited the issue a few days ago, explaining that his anger stemmed from a desire to stand up to what he perceives as bullying. In a scathing X post, Rowling responded: “Can’t say I feel very shut down, but keep at it, Pedro. God loves a trier.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mrxwfb8p

★ Cynthia Erivo is set to star in and produce an adaptation of author Adrian Tchaikovsky’s sci-fi action thriller “Saturation Point”. The film centers on “Dr. Jasmine Marks”, who leads a search and rescue mission into The Zone — a section of rainforest along the equator with a climate inhospitable to intelligent life. The film’s logline says: “As she pushes further into the wilderness, (she) discovers the Zone is far deadlier than initially believed and not all forms of intelligent life are necessarily human.”

★ In honor of its 50th anniversary and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, “Good Morning America” has launched a new yearlong series, “50 States in 50 Weeks: America the Beautiful.” The weekly series kicks off tomorrow from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, the first state to join the Union, and will run through July 2026. Each week will feature a new state, following the order in which they joined the U.S., to highlight a local changemaker and showcase the state’s unique culture, history, traditions and landmarks.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Rihanna – A$AP Rocky may have let slip the sex of their unborn third child. While speaking to “ET” on the red carpet for the premiere of “Smurfs” in Brussels, he was asked whether the baby is “the girl [he’s] been waiting for.” He smiled and nodded, saying: ““It is man, it is.” But he then played the moment off by holding up a Smurfette plushie, implying that the girl he’d been referring to had actually been the toy.
• Miley Cyrus – Her visual album, “Something Beautiful,” is headed to Hulu and Disney+ July 13. The film, with the album’s 13 new songs, is described as “a one-of-a-kind pop opera fueled by fantasy.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4ntfj7jt
• ABBA – Their monster hit ‘Dancing Queen’ has officially hit one billion views on YouTube. The group announced the news on IG, writing: “One billion times! One billion views on YouTube! We are overwhelmed by the sheer fact that so many people want to view and listen to Dancing Queen, and on top of that, it’s one of the about 300 songs that have reached that number.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5kbterwj
• Aerosmith — Joe Perry said the group would love to do a final show, provided Steven Tyler is well enough. They postponed, then canceled their “Peace Out” farewell tour after just 3 shows due to Tyler’s vocal injury. Quote: “I know there’s gotta be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one.”
• Queen — With the 40th anniversary of Live Aid coming up, they are giving fans a chance to relive their iconic performance. July 13, they’ll make available their set on their YouTube channel for 24 hours starting at 6:41pm BST, the same time Queen took the stage at Wembley Stadium. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yjwzyx7r

In a social media vid, he explained, saying: “Yeah tbh I quit drinking all the time and that has truly changed my whole life.” He also said he has recently taken up running. TAIL BLAZERS:
Taking your cat for a walk isn’t as unusual as it used to be. More and more pet owners are embracing leashes and harnesses made specifically for cats, giving their feline friends safe ways to explore the outdoors. In fact, one Vancouver-based pet company says cat harnesses now outsell dog versions. “Adventure cat” gear is especially popular in urban areas, where apartment living means less opportunity for pets to roam. With the right harness, owners can bring their cats along for picnics, hikes — or even just a stroll around the block. RC Pets has sold nearly 500,000 of its “Adventure Kitty Harnesses” across North America, and demand keeps growing. Those who know say that training your cat to walk on a leash works best when they are young, but with patience, even older cats can learn. The B.C. SPCA offers helpful tips for getting started. (Of course, cats being cats, now they’ll also be demanding hiking boots!)

THE RULES OF COOL:
Everyone (except my mother) wants to be considered “cool”. But what exactly makes someone cool? According to a global study of nearly 6,000 people across 13 countries, it turns out coolness is surprisingly universal. Whether you’re in Nigeria or New York, cool people tend to share the same 6 traits — and they’re not just about being “good.” Researchers found that cool people are consistently seen as outgoing, adventurous, independent, and fun. While “good” people are often viewed as kind, traditional, and rule-following, cool people tend to bend the rules, stand out, and spark change. Here are the 6 common traits of coolness that stood out across cultures:

  1. Extraversion – They’re outgoing and socially confident.
  2. Hedonism – They enjoy life and seek pleasure.
  3. Power – They’re influential and respected.
  4. Adventurousness – They take risks and embrace new experiences.
  5. Openness – They’re curious, creative, and unconventional.
  6. Autonomy – They follow their own path, not the crowd.

Basically, cool people dare—and care—to do their own thing.
(…as long as their own thing is cool!)
(Hedonistic? That would totally be me, but it’s laundry night…!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Some recent viewers of the Netflix documentary “Trainwreck: Poop Cruise” have shared on TikTok their horror at realizing they’ve been on that same boat. Since the 2013 disaster that left the vessel stranded for 4 days without working toilets, causing sewage to flood parts of the ship, Carnival spent $200 million to repair and refurbish the “Triumph”, re-christening it in 2019 the “Carnival Sunrise”. In the past week, TikTok has been filling up with videos from people realizing that they were on the so-called Poop Cruise boat, with one captioning their video: “some areas STUNK, and we never knew why”. (I hope they also renamed the Poop Deck!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n6d6dwe

BS CHRONOMETER 07.02.25

BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Halfway Point of the Year”. Today is the 183rd day of the year; 182 days remain until the end of the year. So, today is the first day of the second half of the year, as well as the midpoint, because there are 182 days before and 182 days after it. (Some of us would say “Time flies when you’re having fun”, but nobody’s had any fun this year, and it’s already half-over!)
• “World UFO Day”, celebrating the “existence” of UFOs and extra-terrestrial life. We are encouraged to gather together to watch the skies for Unidentified Flying Objects. Or just watch UFO movies. (I’m pretty sure that anyone who celebrates UFO Day does that EVERY day of the year!)
• “Freedom From Fear of Public Speaking Day”. They say speaking in public is our #1 fear, with death being #2. That means if you’re at a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than giving the eulogy!
• “I Forgot Day”, set aside to make up for all the birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions that you forgot to acknowledge over the past year. (What’s the lamest excuse you’ve heard?)
• “World Sports Journalists Day”, honoring those who report on sport, an essential element of any news media organization. Sports journalists from all over the world are united by the International Sports Press Association. (And are called the “Toy Department” by the news people!)
• “Special Recreation for the Disabled Day”. A good occasion to remind us of the importance of recreational activities in the lives of those with health conditions or impairments. Stats show that about 15% of the world’s population lives with some form of disability.
• “Anisette Day”. Anisette is an anise-flavored liqueur mainly consumed in France, Italy, Portugal, Mexico, and Spain. It is sweeter than most anise-flavored liqueurs, and also has a lower alcohol content (typically 25% by volume).
