★ Tito Jackson, older brother of Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5’s co-founding singer and guitarist, has died. He was 70. Jackson died Sunday while driving, longtime Jackson family friend and manager Steve Manning told media outlets. His death was later attributed to a heart attack by his sons Taj, Taryll and TJ, who wrote on Instagram: “Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.” The Jackson 5 had a run of chart-topping hits, including ‘I Want You Back’ and ‘ABC’, recording 10 albums as The Jackson 5, and 5 more as The Jacksons. Tito, along with the rest of the Jackson 5, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

★ Ricky Gervais has lost a battle to demolish his flood-prone mansion in London. “The Office” creator had applied to build a 4-bedroom, neo-classical home on the site of his existing property beside the River Thames, which has been hit by flooding at least 5 times since 1947, so he could replace it with a new £5 million house. But authorities denied consent for his project, claiming the comic’s application did not meet local and national planning guidelines. Gervais has a huge property portfolio, including a £15 million mansion with 9 bedrooms, spa and tennis court in north London.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Demi Lovato — has released the new song ‘You’ll Be OK, Kid’. It is featured in her upcoming directorial debut “Child Star”, a documentary coming to Hulu Sept. 17. The film explores growing up in the spotlight, and features interviews with former child stars. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2596cnwm
• Tate McRae – Her new chapter has arrived with the release of ‘It’s ok I’m ok’, which came with a sexy video that features her strutting down city streets in skimpy clothing, performing choreography with a troupe of dancers, and — at one point — being thrown up against a police car and getting arrested for being naked. The nudity is pixelated out. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yhxufbvp
• Jane’s Addiction – [***UPDATE***] The remainder of the reunion tour by the original lineup of Jane’s Addiction, the group’s first in 14 years, has been canceled.
Fallout continues after the onstage punching incident involving Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro. Not only did the band cancel Sunday’s show, Navarro unfollowed Farrell and Jane’s Addiction on Instagram, leading to speculation he plans to leave the group. He also posted a cryptic pic of his silhouette on stage with the word “Goodnight…”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y2vsab7t
• The Cure – seem to have confirmed the release date of their first LP in 16 years. Some fans have received postcards that apparently confirm the album title “Songs of a Lost World”. Roman numerals which translate to Nov. 1, 2024, are embossed at the bottom. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yc5rp9jt
• Bryan Adams – Nov. 15, he’ll release part 2 of his 2023 box set “Live at the Royal Albert Hall”. “Live at the Royal Albert Hall 2024” was recorded in May during his 3-night stand there, where he played a full album each night. The box set includes performances of “18 ‘Til I Die”, “Reckless” and “So Happy It Hurts”. It’s available as a 3-CD set or 4-LP vinyl; both come with a Blu-ray disc with video footage.
• BRELAND – had dropped ‘Icing’, his first release of 2024. Quote: “I’ve always loved playing around on the periphery of Country music, and Icing has all my favorite flavors of Southern Gospel with an old-school Soul flare.” It will appear on his forthcoming “Project 2024” EP, out Oct. 18. LINK:  https://tinyurl.com/4hxjmn8s
• Miranda Lambert – Had this to say about her new album “Postcards From Texas”, which dropped on Friday: “Usually when you make a record, it’s a snapshot of the past 2 or 3 years and where you are in that moment. Postcards from Texas instead draws on all the different stages of my life and my career, all the influences that have ever inspired me, and gives you a really full picture of who I am.”
• Little Big Town – Their first-ever Christmas album “The Christmas Record” will feature yuletide classics including ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’, ‘Santa Claus Is Back In Town’ and ‘If We Make It Through December’, plus originals including ‘Christmas Night With You’, which is out now. The album drops Oct. 4, the same day they’re filming their NBC special “Little Big Town’s Christmas at the Opry”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/nhtv6bzu

SHOOTING THE BULL

HEALTH JOURNEY:
A group of scientists say their research shows that you need a vacation – and your life may depend on it. The team, from Australia’s Edith Cowan University, decided to look into how travel and tourism positively affect human health. Among other benefits, they found that travel tends to place us outdoors in fresher air and sunlight. It requires us to walk and do other exercise more than usual, which typically prevents us from overeating, and exhausts us in a way that makes sleep quality increase. These factors “are vital to the self-repair, self-organization, and anti-wear-and-tear systems.” In addition, exposure to unfamiliar streets, strange customs, and a new environment of microorganisms can boost your immune system, “improving “the body’s ability to perceive and defend itself against external threats; put simply, the self-defence system becomes more resilient”.
(And now you know why I say “I need a vacation” about 30 times every day!)
(Sounds great – but I don’t know f I can trust a bunch of scientists who are naïve enough to think I don’t overeat when I’m on vacation!)

HOTEL DO-TELL:
Hotels.com has revealed some of the oddest items left behind by guests at its partner hotels over the past year. The website’s “Hotel Room Innsights Report”, based on data from more than 400 hotels worldwide, also lists the most-common items left behind, including phone chargers, dirty laundry, power adapters, makeup, and toiletries. Oh – and false teeth, of course. Some of the most unusual items forgotten by visitors include:
• a Rolex watch
• another watch worth $6 million
• a Hermes Birkin bag
• keys and documents for a luxury car
• a car tire
• an engagement ring
• a tooth
• 2 full-leg casts
• stacks of cash
• a pet lizard
And because you’ve GOT to hear these, here are some of the most unusual room-service requests over the past year:
✓ an Evian water-filled tub for a child’s bath
✓ a customized allergen menu for a pet
✓ burnt toast
✓ a caviar hot dog
✓ fresh goat milk
✓ 4 pounds of bananas
✓ a high-five from a team member “to ensure their room service request was read.”
(Let’s face it, if you’re asking for 4 pounds of bananas, there’s something going on in your room that’s a whole lot weirder than asking for 4 pounds of bananas!)
(I’ve got to admit I’m relieved — Because that list of room-service requests could have gone down a completely different road!)

GROW UP:

According to a new survey, adulthood “really” begins at age 27. This admission of delayed maturity comes from a poll of 2,000 Americans, who may or may-not be old enough to be classified as adults, according to their own definition of the term. The reason that so many feel that they won’t — or DIDN’T become a full-fledged adult until 27 is due to the fact that more than half of respondents felt that the true marks of “adulting” are paying your own bills, financial independence, and prioritizing responsibilities over fun. Other top events that were found to make people feel like adults included moving out of parents’ homes, and landing a first job in one’s chosen field. Respondents were found to generally start taking their finances seriously at age 28. And 42% of respondents said they found that being an adult is harder than they expected.
(…to which I say: Just wait ‘til you have kids!)
(I bet they don’t say you’re not an adult until you’re 27 when they’re trying to get into a bar!)

THE NAME GAME:
News surfaced last week that Campbell’s Soup Co. plans to change its name to “The Campbell’s Co. Why? CEO Mark Clouse said the “subtle yet important change” will retain the company’s iconic name “while better reflecting the full breadth” of its portfolio, which includes brands like Prego sauce and Goldfish crackers. Here are some other examples of companies that have rebranded, often losing the mention of the specific item that they were best known for…
☞ Dunkin’: In 2019, Dunkin’ Donuts shortened its name to reflect its increasing emphasis on coffee and other drinks. (Because one cannot run on donuts alone?)
☞ Krispy Kreme: It also dropped ‘doughnuts’ from its name, although the word still appears prominently on the chain’s logo and boxes of sugary perfection.
☞ Domino’s: Took the word “pizza” out of its logo and off storefronts in 2012, citing menu expansions and other in-store updates. But its parent company is still named “Domino’s Pizza Inc.”
☞ Starbucks: In 1971, it was known as “Starbucks Coffee, Tea, and Spices.” In 1987, the name was shortened to “Starbucks Coffee” — and by 2011, Starbucks introduced its latest logo, which doesn’t feature the company’s name at all. Starbucks officially operates as “Starbucks Coffee Co.”
☞ KFC: It hasn’t used the “Kentucky Fried Chicken” name for decades. The fast-food chain shortened its name in 1991, supposedly to draw attention away from the unhealthy connotations of the word “fried”.

DID YOU KNOW?
The more abdominal fat you have, the more likely you are to deal with chronic pain in multiple areas of the body, researchers say. A team from the University of Tasmania found that those with higher levels of abdominal fat had greater odds of reporting chronic pain overall, and were more likely to have pain in multiple sites, such as the neck, back, hips, and knees. The researchers theorize that this is because excess fat tissue produces inflammatory compounds that can sensitize nerves and amplify pain signals throughout the body. Excess fat may also cause increased stress on joints and tissues, causing a pain response. (The good news is that I can ease my pain with hamburgers and pizza!)

• “Time’s Up Day”, a day to let you know that if you’ve been waiting to make up with someone close to you, now is the time to make amends. Life’s too short to be on bad terms with those who should be dearest to you. (Not to be confused with “Make Up Day”, which was on Sept. 10…)
• “Get Ready Day”, created by the American Public Health Association to remind communities, campuses, and workplaces to be prepared for emergencies and disasters. The day coincides with National Preparedness Month.
• “IT Professionals Day”, celebrating the information technology experts who keep the wheels of business turning. Today, thank your IT person, perhaps by not bugging them with any technology- related questions. (Ask them about sports…and watch ’em squirm!)
• “Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day”. A reminder that it is important for people of all ages to see a doctor regularly. People age 50 and over should see theirs at least once a year.
• “World Patient Safety Day”, a day to raise awareness about the importance of addressing health worker safety as a prerequisite to patient safety.
• “American Citizenship Day” (aka “US Constitution Day” and “I Am an American Day”), focusing on the rights & responsibilities of American citizens. It commemorates this date in 1787 when the US Constitution, the oldest working constitution in the world, was signed in Philadelphia.
