Sheet For Brains!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Prince Harry continued his testimony yesterday at High Court in London in his case against Mirror Group Newspapers, and was grilled by the opposing attorney for failing to show actual proof of his claims. Harry pushed back, insisting much of the content reported on could have only been obtained by accessing his private records and correspondence. As a follow-up, the judge asked when he first noticed unusual activity on his phone. Harry said it was “from the moment I had a mobile phone” when he started going to school at Eton. When asked how long the unusual activity went on for, Harry said it “never stopped”.

★ Ellen Pompeo says her character’s exit from “Grey’s Anatomy” isn’t a “complete goodbye”. Pompeo famously exited the series after 19 seasons earlier this year, but teased a possible comeback when she reunited with Katherine Heigl for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” interview series. She said of ‘Meredith Grey’ leaving Seattle: “It’s a little bit of trickery, because I’m not completely gone.” Even though her character Meredith “left to go to Boston because her daughter needed to go to a special school”, she indicated she’ll make “some appearances hopefully next year”.

★ Some good health news for Danny Bonaduce — his brain surgery went off without a hitch —  and now he’ll start his road to recovery. Paul Anderson, Bonaduce’s longtime friend and agent says the actor was under the knife for 2 hours Monday, but things went really well and everyone’s optimistic about his recovery. He’s expected to be released from hospital this week, and will rest at home for an expected 3-4 weeks.

★ Just as trial was to begin on Tuesday, it was revealed that Cuba Gooding Jr. has settled with his accuser, who alleged he raped her in a New York hotel a decade ago. The lawsuit sought $6 million in damages. The actor had insisted that his encounter with the woman was consensual after the 2 met at a nearby restaurant.

★ Jeff Garlin’s character in “The Goldbergs” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” may have elicited laughter, but his alleged troublesome behavior behind the scenes made working on the set challenging for crew members. According to Maureen Ryan’s new book “Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood” Garlin’s , the actor’s “disrespectful” and “disparaging” behavior was allowed to run unchecked, with one insider saying he wielded his “power and status to intimidate and demean everyone on this crew.” The actor’s behavior — described as “harassing, disparaging or physically problematic” – eventually led to his dismissal from the show in 2022.
-People
★ Pete Davidson has admitted that he and Colin Jost were “very stoned” when they paid $280,000 for a decommissioned Staten Island ferry, and he regrets buying it. While attending the red-carpet premiere of “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” in New York City, he told “Entertainment Tonight”: “Me and Colin were very stoned a year ago and bought a ferry. And we’re figuring it out.” In January, 2022, Davidson and his former “SNL” co-star Jost won the John F. Kennedy, a decommissioned Staten Island ferry “in poor condition”, at an auction. When asked if he planned to use the boat for the movie premiere’s after-party, he said: “Hopefully it turns into a Transformer and gets the (heck) out of there so I can stop paying for it!”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Drake — appeared on Stake’s weekend livestream via Kick, rocking a beige jumpsuit and yellow-and-blue painted nails, which sparked plenty of mixed reactions among his fans. Then, when he tried to gift a fan with $500 worth of subs from Kick, the credit card he used for the transaction was declined, which Drake said was “embarrassing.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p8ht6m4
• Nicki Minaj – plans to drop an album Oct. 20. She casually dropped the news on her Twitter Monday, writing: “10/20/23 The Album”. It’s unclear if the album will be named “The Album”, but if it is, the LP would follow the likes of Blackpink and Jonas Brothers, who also gave that title to their LPs. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/kehnnxj8
• Def Leppard — has shared a new video blog covering the first 3 shows of the European leg of the band’s “The World Tour” with Mötley Crüe, covering stops in Sheffield, England, and 2 German cities. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdhrm6d4
• Queens of the Stone Age – have announced a headlining North American tour to support their upcoming album “In Times New Roman …”, which drops June 16. The first show is Aug. 3 in Sterling Heights MI, and the tour wraps up Oct. 8 in Sacramento CA, at the Aftershock Festival.
• John Mellencamp – isn’t interested in pandering to his audience. In New York Times interview, he discussed his decision to play smaller, more intimate venues. Quote: “I could do a whole show of hits if I wanted to, but I don’t. That’s one reason I quit playing arenas and playing outdoors. It wasn’t about music — it was about being a human jukebox.”
• Morgan Wallen – Thanks to him and other artists such as Luke Combs and Zach Bryan, country albums make up half of the Billboard 200 Top 10, for the first time since Oct. 2013. Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” and “Dangerous: The Double Album” at are #2 and 5, while Combs’ “Gettin’ Old” sits at #7, Bryan’s “American Heartbreak” is #9 and Bailey Zimmerman’s “Religiously. The Album” ranks #10.
• Eric Church — isn’t yet eligible for induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, but he is getting his own exhibit. “Eric Church: Country Heart, Restless Soul,” opening July 13, will feature one of his childhood guitars, plus pairs of Church’s Ray-Bans, the jacket he wore to sing the National Anthem at Super Bowl LV and the Von Dutch hat he bought at a truck stop, and wore on stage for years afterward.
• Ronnie Milsap – The 80-year-old has announced his final Nashville performance, Oct. 3 at Bridgestone Arena. Artists scheduled to pay tribute at the show include Kelly Clarkson, Little Big Town, Parker McCollum, Justin Moore, Scotty McCreery, Tracy Lawrence, Randy Houser, Sara Evans, Lorrie Morgan, Neal McCoy, BRELAND, Phil Vassar, Terri Clark and more. SHOOTING THE BULL

THERE’LL BE SAD SONGS – TO MAKE YOU HAPPY:
You know how it is: You’re driving alone, and the PERFECT song comes on the radio. Suddenly, the sun is brighter, the grass is greener, and before you know it, you look down at the speedometer and find you’re setting a new land speed record. Or the music you play during your workout results in a personal best, and you hardly even broke sweat. But new research says that it’s not only happy music that can affect your mood. And here’s the surprise: Researchers at Oxford University say that listening to sad music can – make you happy. Now, listening to sad music can certainly make people feel sad, but it was also found that doing can also impact a person’s mood in a positive way by allowing them to feel a sense of connectedness. One of the lead researchers said: “The value of sad music lies in its ability to create a sense of connection…And it’s that sense of connection…which is what makes listening to sad music really great!” The researchers say we may love sad music for the same reasons we might value sad conversations — that sense of genuine connection.
(…and you thought this show made you happy because of my sparkling personality! Turns out, it’s been the sad songs the entire time!)
(…it’s a good thing that I’m at that age where every new song I hear sounds pretty sad to my ears…!)

HO-HUM…ANOTHER BIT ABOUT SLEEPI…ZZZ:
So far this week we’ve learned that a poor diet leads to poor sleep, and that if your partner snores, sleeping in separate rooms could improve your marriage. And because it’s something that I’m very interested in (especially when the alarm goes off at 3:30am…), here’s some more sleep news: According to a new study, making sure you’re nailing your sleep hygiene could be the key to optimal health and longevity. In other words, if you get enough good-quality sleep, your mortality risk drops by 42%. The study, published in the journal “Sleep” (go figure…) found that those who had optimal sleep patterns benefited from better health outcomes than those who didn’t. Researchers suggested that in order to improve your sleep quality, you should try to be consistent in your sleep and wake times, remove electronic devices from your room, try reading or gentle exercise before bed, avoid caffeine after early afternoon, and make sure your room is cool and dark enough.
(…and apparently, if your partner snores, throw them out of the room!)
(I’m not concerned with how dark my bedroom is…because the minute I sit in my living room recliner and turn on the TV…it’s game over!)

ABOUT DUCKING TIME:
You may have heard about it by now, but it bears repeating: One of the most notable announcements at Apple’s event for developers on Monday is the company’s plan to tweak its iPhone autocorrect feature as part of the coming iOS17, so that you’ll probably never send another message that accidentally contains the word “ducking.” The “ducking” substitution for a common expletive is a source of long-standing frustration for many who have had had to rewrite their texts…or follow them up with a message that says “darn autocorrect!”. Of course, iPhone users have always had the option to turn off the autocorrect feature, but, really, who does that?
(Uh-oh! I’ve got the feeling that my mother is in for a world of shock, come September…)
(I’ve always been more of a “duckin” guy myself…)

BEST SUNBURN REMEDIES:
1. Aloe Vera: It works best when sourced straight from the plant (which has amazing healing properties). But if you’re in a pinch, a gel or moisturizer containing aloe will provide many of the same benefits. Cut the leaves of an aloe plant, and apply it as topical ointment to soothe the sting and reduce the redness. (Cool. Literally!)
2. A Cool Bath/Shower:  Just as you’d blast the AC for a shot of relief, a bath or shower can help cool your burnt skin. Then, as soon as you get out, gently pat yourself dry, but leave a little water on your skin, and apply a moisturizer to help trap the water. This can help ease the dryness. (Then – scream!)
3. Drink Water:  It may seem obvious, but hydration is important to healing from a burn, to replenish moisture that’s lost during your time in the sun. Hydrating fruits and veggies like watermelon, cucumber, strawberries, tomatoes, grapefruit, and cantaloupe can also help. (Especially if they’re part of a very strong cocktail!)
4. Pain Relievers:  While it may not be a permanent solution, it’s a great way to catch a break from the pain and get some much-needed rest. Consider taking aspirin or ibuprofen to help reduce any swelling, redness and discomfort.
5. Cold Compress:  When you still want an extra dose of cooling relief, a cold compress is a great way to quickly bring down the temperature of the skin, and help with pain and swelling. Wrap an ice pack or a bag of frozen veggies in a soft towel and apply to the burn. Use it as often as you like for 10–15-minute intervals. (Darn. Nothing here about a skin-transfusion?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Some people in Japan who have become accustomed to wearing a face mask have turned to the help of a professional — to learn to smile again. After the country lifted its recommendation to wear masks for COVID prevention in March, many people seemingly realized they had actually forgotten how to smile. Lessons to perfect a perfect grin cost about US$55 for a one-on-one session. (Or just forget to charge ‘em. I guarantee they’ll smile THEN!)
