★ Kevin Spacey thanked his “The Man Who Drew God” co-star/director Franco Nero for having “the guts” to cast him in the movie while accepting his Maximo Excellent award at the 2025 Italian Global Series Festival. Spacey noted how the filmmaker “stepped up” a few years ago, “when very few had the guts”. Nero wrote, directed and starred in the 2022 drama alongside Spacey and Faye Dunaway. The former “House of Cards” star had been accused by actor Anthony Rapp of making sexual advances toward him when he was just 14. Spacey was found not liable.

SHOOTING THE BULL
A.I.-TINERARY:
Turns out, American workers hit their peak productivity at 11am on Mondays—right before the caffeine wears off. But by Friday at exactly 12:06pm? Productivity flatlines. A new survey of 2,000 knowledge workers found that while most feel “very productive” during their workday, they still lose over 3½ hours a week, thanks to an average of 53 annoying little tasks that derail their flow. The survey, commissioned by Grammarly, also looked at how AI could help. Younger workers (especially Gen Z) are more eager to offload boring tasks — 62% of all respondents said they’d gladly use AI on the job — especially for repetitive tasks. Top AI wish list items? Tools that are easy to use, write emails, sort data, and take meeting notes. With 76% saying AI will soon be essential at work — probably in the next 3½ years.
(Yeah, AI can have anything to do with Excel. Gladly…)
(We reach peak productivity at 11am. That’s exactly when I have my second snack — which explains so much…!)

NEWS FLASH: I DON’T WANT NEWS FLASHES:
Are you tired of constant news alerts coming across your smartphone? You’re not alone. A global survey by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism found that these days, nearly 80% of people don’t receive any news alerts in a typical week — and almost half of us have actively turned them off. Why? Too many pings, not enough value. As Nic Newman, the lead researcher, put it, news agencies are walking a fine line. Most limit how many alerts they send, because they’re trying to avoid overwhelming users with too much noise. And even though news alerts are more common than a decade ago, many people feel bombarded by notifications from every direction: news, sports, calendars, group chats, and social media — not to mention weather. The takeaway? News alerts can be useful, but when they’re constant, clickbaity, or repetitive, most of us would rather just turn ’em off.
(Breaking: I’ve disabled breaking news…)
(After all, if it’s really important, my mom will text me!)

MIND GAMES:
From our department of “no kidding – you should see my friends at NHL playoffs time”, comes this: It turns out die-hard hockey fans don’t just watch the game – they actually feel it in their brains at a biological level. Canadian researchers strapped portable brain scanners onto superfans – and to casual viewers alike, then played clips from a hockey British hockey game. Why British? No hometown bias. Here’s what they found: passionate fans showed waaay more brain activity, especially in areas linked to personal meaning and evaluation. Casual fans perked up during obvious times, such as goals, but superfans lit up during subtler plays—like offensive face-offs—and other moments that require actual hockey IQ. The key brain region? The dorsomedial prefrontal cortex. That’s the part that says, “This matters to me.” It was found that even early in the game, fans were already locked in, mentally dissecting strategy. The moral of the story? True fandom doesn’t just live in the heart—it’s wired straight into the brain.
(Finally! A study that explains why my uncle dresses up like a team mascot and screams at the TV like it owes him money!)
(My biggest takeaway from this: They actually play hockey in England?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Happy people remember things more effectively than others. That’s according to British researchers, who found that those with higher psychological wellbeing consistently performed better on memory tests over 16 years. The protective effect worked across all aspects of wellbeing — feeling in control, autonomous, fulfilled, and experiencing daily pleasure. The scientists say their results suggest that nurturing our psychological wellbeing may be a key to protecting cognitive function as we age. (Great. Now my therapist can charge extra for “cognitive preservation.”)

BS CHRONOMETER 06.25.25
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Leon Day” (‘Noel’ spelled backwards), observed exactly 6 months from Christmas, meaning we’re as far away from all that holiday rush and stress as we can be (and that you’ll start seeing Christmas stuff show up in stores in about 3 weeks…)
• “Please Take My Children to Work Day”. Tired and overworked, stay-at-home moms rarely get a day off. Worse yet, many others perceive them as not working at all. Today, if you’re a stay-at-home mom, ask friends or family members to take care of your children.
• “Strawberry Parfait Day”. Parfait is French for “perfect”. The traditional parfait is a dessert of ice cream or frozen custard, layered with fruit and whipped cream, in a tall stemmed glass.
• “Catfish Day”, first initiated in 1987 to celebrate the value of farm-raised catfish. (NOT celebrating the social media move where you pretend you’re someone you’re not — although it’s equally creepy…)
• “Day of the Seafarer”, initiated by the International Maritime Organization, to salute those in the shipping industry who bring us food, clothing, and other needs. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4mkt79mm
• “Global Beatles Day”, an annual observance celebrating the phenomenon of The Beatles and their long-lasting gifts to the world, including the promotion of peace and love. Held on the date that, in 1967, the Beatles participated in the BBC program “Our World” performing ‘All You Need Is Love’, in the first-ever live global television link (broadcast to 26 countries). LINK: http://globalbeatlesday.com
• “World Vitiligo Day”, to build global awareness of the chronic condition characterized by areas of skin losing pigment. The disfiguring disease can have a negative social and psychological impact on patients. (Michael Jackson, who died on this date in 2009, suffered from this condition.)
• “Color TV Day”. On this date in 1951, CBS broadcast the first color television show, “Premiere”. The variety show included Arthur Godfrey, Ed Sullivan, Garry Moore and Robert Alda. (Unfortunately, almost no one had a color TV to watch it on, but they had to start somewhere…)
