Good Morning, Sheetheads!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Footage has emerged of Angelina Jolie being taken to safety after an air-raid siren went off during her visit to the Ukrainian city of Lviv. Lviv has been under attack by the Russian army in recent weeks, and last month, a missile attack on the western city left at least 7 people dead. While Jolie, a special envoy for the UN who has been doing humanitarian work for years, was visiting a refuge on Saturday, an air-raid siren went off and she could be seen quickly walking with an entourage, then getting into a car. Earlier, she was seen at a coffee shop, where she smiled and waved at fans, and signed at least one autograph.

★ After 39 years of marriage, Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon are separating. In a joint statement, the couple said they are now on “separate life paths”, but remain “legally married, co-parents, co-workers and business partners.” Aykroyd and Dixon met in 1983 on the set of “Doctor Detroit” and they were married the same year. The couple also starred together in “Twilight Zone: The Movie”, “Spies Like Us”, “The Couch Trip” and “Exit To Eden”. They have 3 adult daughters.

★ Ever since Netflix announced “That 90s Show”, a continuation of the classic Fox sitcom “That ’70s Show”, fans have been clamoring to know who would return. Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp were confirmed to reprise their roles and ‘Red’ and ‘Kitty Forman’, but now, we know almost the whole core cast will return in some capacity. Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Wilmer Valderrama will all appear on That ’90s Show, meaning beloved characters ‘Eric Forman’, ‘Donna Pinciotti’, ‘Kelso’, ‘Jackie’ and ‘Fez’ will all make their way back to Point Place, Wisconsin. The one missing key cast member is Danny Masteron’s ‘Steven Hyde’. Masterson has been accused of multiple sexual assaults and is awaiting trial. Those who are returning are said to be making guest appearances, meaning they won’t be on every episode.

★ Batwoman’s time in Gotham has come to an end. The CW has canceled the DC Comics drama after 3 seasons. Showrunner Caroline Dries shared the news on Friday, writing: “I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes.” The cancellation comes a month after the third season finale aired. It also comes as The CW’s owners, Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global, are exploring a sale of the broadcaster, which has led to speculation that the network would pare back on scripted series.

• Olivia Rodrigo – after covering Avril Lavigne’s hit ‘Complicated’ throughout her “Sour” tour, she was joined onstage by the real deal during her Toronto show on Friday. Rodrigo introduced Lavigne as someone “who broke down so many barriers, and opened so many doors for girls like me. I’m so, so, so lucky that she came here tonight to sing with me.” LINK: https://youtu.be/PFSzd2aO-fU
• Celine Dion – Friday, she shared the news that she has postponed her European tour for a second time, due to “health issues”. She wrote on Instagram that she is “doing a little bit better”, but “still experiencing some spasms”. The tour was scheduled to begin in May, but the dates have now been moved to March and April 2023.
• Duran Duran – won fan voting for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2022, with over 900,000 votes. The rest of the top-5, who will all be placed on a fan ballot that will be tallied alongside the other ballots used to select this year’s winners, are, in order, Eminem (680,000 votes), Pat Benatar (630,000), Eurythmics (442,000) and Dolly Parton (393,000). (You’re right, the “fan vote” basically means nothing…)
• Guns N’ Roses — Thanks to its appearance in the trailer for Marvel’s upcoming film “Thor: Love and Thunder” their classic song ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ has hit #1 Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart – almost 35 years after its release. The song, from the band’s 1987 debut “Appetite for Destruction” topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988.
• Paul McCartney – duetted with a video of John Lennon on the opening night of his tour in Spokane WA. Last night’s induction of the duo into the Country Music Hall of Fame was expected to proceed, and a rep indicated Wynonna would attend.
• Luke Bryan — will headline his 13th “Farm Tour” in September during a break from his “Raised Up Right Tour”. He’ll set up stages in the fields of local farmers across 6 states Sept. 15-24. Riley Green, Jameson Rodgers, the Peach Pickers and DJ Rock will be special guests.
• Dolly Parton — now says she will “accept gracefully” if she is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She previously asked not to be included in the voting process because she didn’t feel she had earned it, but The Rock Hall said her name would remain on the ballot. Fan voting ended Friday, with Parton in 5th place with just over 390,000 votes. The 2022 inductees will be announced this month.

HOLLYWEIRD:
➠ Actors who win an Oscar are likely to live longer than their co-stars, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of Toronto created a model based on 2,111 actors from 1929 to 2020 who were nominated for an Academy Award or appeared opposite a nominated actor. The data shows that those who win an Oscar are more likely to live to about 81, while those who are just nominated – or not nominated at all — are likely to live to about 76. (“I’d like to thank the Academy…”)
➠ A Will Smith impersonator says his popularity — and income — have nearly doubled following the Academy Award-winner’s notorious Oscars slap. 43-year-old Shad Ellis of Bedford, England, has moonlighted as Smith’s doppelgänger for 25 years, performing at nightclubs, weddings and corporate events around the world. Since the infamous incident when Smith smacked Chris Rock onstage, his services have never been in greater demand. He charges about $750 per gig. (And he has a better chance at being invited to the 2023 Oscars than Will does!)

WELL, SHEET:
An expert says the absolute maximum amount of time you should go without washing your bedsheets is – one week. Certified sleep coach and Content Manager for the Sleep Foundation Daniel Noyed says dirty sheets can contribute to allergies, skin breakouts, asthma and general uncleanliness. And although some people wash them every few days, and others every few weeks, months, or go even longer, if you want to avoid your sheets accumulating dirt, dead skin cells, body oils, sweat, and worst of all, dust mites (including their carcasses and fecal matter), it’s best to stick to a once-per-week routine. Those who sleep with their pets, and those who suffer from allergies or asthma should freshen their linens even more often.
(Every week? At least give me time to make the bed from last week!)
(So, what you’re saying is you’re supposed to wash your bedsheets?)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ A hair-braiding class for dudes? Why not? Annis Waugh owns Braid Maidens in St. Albans, England, and as part of a fundraiser for a local school, she set up workshops for parents. After realizing she never had a man enroll in any of her hair-braiding classes, she designed a course called “Beers and Braids” to appeal to dads. The class sold out, with dozens of fathers signing up for the waiting list. Waugh taught the dads about hair textures and types, and demonstrated brushing and braiding techniques. The men practiced on plastic heads, and “were super engaged and really enthusiastic learners,” according to Waugh. One father says he signed up so he could help his daughters get ready for school, because “It shouldn’t just be one gender doing stuff like this. The more we do and share the load, the better it is for my daughters.”
➢ A 90-year-old found her late husband’s wedding ring under an apple tree—35 years after he lost it. Ann Kendrick says Peter, who passed away 22 years ago, lost his band while working in their back garden in Looe, Cornwall in 1987. The mother-of-7 discovered the ring April 23 when she was clearing around the base of an apple tree. She said she was “very excited” to find the ring and added that her husband would have been “as surprised as her.” Ms. Kendrick plans to wear the ring as a necklace in memory of her late husband. (This woman’s clearing land at 90, and my teenager can’t clear off the couch before passing out on it?)

7 THINGS YOU’RE WASTING YOUR MONEY ON (OR AT LEAST, I AM):
☞ Bank fees: Between ATMs and monthly service fees, they can really add up. Find a bank that offers accounts with no monthly fees. Or keep enough money in your account that fees are waived. (I would, but they keep taking it!)
☞ Stuff on sale: Everyone loves a great deal, but spending on something you don’t need just because it’s on sale isn’t wise. Wait 24 hours, and see if that deal still looks good to you.
☞ Subscriptions: A study found more than 70% of us waste more than $50 per month on recurring payments for things we don’t need or want. Carefully check your statement each month and cancel any charges for things you don’t use.
☞ Food waste: Up to 40% of food purchased is never eaten. Take stock of what you have before shopping, and plan your meals (and your shopping list) around the items you already have.
☞ Extended warranties: Sometimes the cost of the plan exceeds the cost of repairs. Plus, many credit cards include extended warranties, so you may be paying for coverage you already have. Consider directing your extra cash toward an emergency account to cover the cost of repairs. (What is this “extra cash” you speak of?)
☞ Overpaying for insurance: If you’ve been with the same provider for years, shop around to see if you can find a better price. Sometimes new customers get introductory deals, or you may simply find a policy that offers coverage for less. Also consider bundling home and auto coverage for a discount.
☞ Credit card interest: While credit cards can be useful, they become an expensive burden that drags down your finances when you carry a balance. Focus on paying those cards down, possibly with a lower-interest line of credit. (My bank has no ‘interest’ in giving me a line of credit!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Canadian lawmakers have passed an amendment to the Criminal Code to allow for the prosecution of crimes committed on the Moon. Under the subheading “Lunar Gateway”, it states: “A Canadian crew member who, during a space flight, commits an act or omission outside Canada that if committed in Canada would constitute an indictable offence is deemed to have committed that act or omission in Canada.” This would include crimes en route to or on the Lunar Gateway station, currently in the works to orbit the Moon. Foreign astronauts who “threaten the life or security of a Canadian crew member” could also be prosecuted. (So keep your hands off their Timbits!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Brothers and Sisters Day!”, a day to let siblings know you care. (Or maybe to add up all the times you got ratted on, had your hair pulled or your dessert stolen … and get even!)
• “Melanoma Monday”, raising awareness for melanoma and other skin cancers and encouraging early detection through self-exams. Here are some ways to reduce your risk:
⇒ Wear sunscreen to protect from harmful UV rays. Reapply it throughout the day, too.
⇒ Wear a broad-brimmed hat, long sleeves, and pants. And don’t forget to cover the back of your neck.
⇒ Find shade. Trees, umbrellas, and awnings provide excellent sun protection on warm sunny days.
⇒ Don’t let the clouds fool you. UV rays still reach your skin on a cloudy day.
⇒ Avoid tanning beds. The UV light puts you at risk for melanoma, too.
⇒ Regularly check your skin for abnormal moles. If you notice changes, see a dermatologist.
• “Play Your Ukulele Day”, when you’re encouraged to play a ukulele, share your ukulele, and teach someone else how to play. (What’s the difference between a ukulele and a trampoline? You take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline.)
• “Life Insurance Day”, The anniversary of the day life insurance became available in the United States in 1759. (They say that life insurance is like fun: The older you get, the more it costs…)
• “Truffle Day”, celebrating the chocolate confectionery traditionally made with a chocolate ganache center coated in chocolate, icing, cocoa powder, chopped nuts or coconut.
• “World Tuna Day”, not to encourage us to eat more tuna fish, but to bring attention to this valuable species threatened by a stunning demand for its meat, mostly in the form of canned tuna and sushi.
