The BS Press!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ A clip of Brie Larson talking about her “Captain Marvel” future has been doing the rounds online. Larson appeared at D23 Expo on Saturday to present a first look at her upcoming film “The Marvels”, in which she stars alongside Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris. She first took on the role of ‘Carol Danvers’ in the 2019 “Captain Marvel” flick, and has since faced backlash from fans. When asked “How long will you play Captain Marvel?”, the actress wryly responded, “I don’t know. Does anyone want me to do it again?”, seemingly hinting at the criticism she’s faced. Commenters have complained about everything from Larson’s lack of smiling in the trailer to press comments perceived as sexist towards men.

★ The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to move into the late Queen Elizabeth’s Windsor Castle home. But they’re said to be postponing the move for the sake of the children as they have just relocated to Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate. The couple are said to be highly sensitive to the fact that their kids have experienced a house move, starting a new school and the death of their ‘Gan-Gan’ in only 6 days. A royal insider has been reported as saying: “They won’t be starting from scratch when it comes to decisions on what happens to all of the royal properties because there have been lots of conversations about that over the years, but things can change when family dynamics are taken into account and they want as little disruption to their children’s lives as possible.” The Waleses moved into Adelaide Cottage last week, after being based in Kensington Palace.

★ Soon, Marvel fans will be able to take a ride through the Multiverse. A new “Avengers Campus” attraction is heading to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, allowing parkgoers to journey through the MCU’s many, many universes. The news was announced on Sunday at the D23 Expo’s Parks panel, which featured parks chairman Josh D’Amaro and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. D’Amaro said the ride — which does not have an official opening date — will see parkgoers team up with the Avengers from multiple universes to defeat ‘King Thanos’, a version of the character that won at the end of the 2019 film “Avengers: Endgame.” (Spoiler alert?)

★ Drew Barrymore was gobsmacked that her ‘rain frolic’ went viral. The “Charlie’s Angels” star and talk show host posted a joyful video to Instagram of herself rejoicing as she frolicked outside during a downpour in July. In the clip, she tips her head toward the sky and says: “Whenever you can, go out into the rain! Do not miss the opportunity!” The video has been viewed over 22 million times and racked up over 10 million likes. While on the red carpet at the Harper’s Bazaar ICONS party in New York, she told reporters that she “had no idea [it would go viral]…it was just a moment.” LINK: https://www.instagram.com/p/CgHP791LNX9/?hl=en

SHOOTING THE BULL

MEAL PLAN:
According to the old saying, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but a new study says it shouldn’t be the biggest meal of the day. Some believe that “front-loading” calories by making breakfast the largest meal helps people burn more calories throughout the day. But researchers from Scotland’s Aberdeen University found that it doesn’t matter whether we make breakfast, lunch, or dinner the biggest meal — our body processes the calories in the same way, at the same rate. The team did point out, however, that “in the real world”, eating more food first thing in the morning could help people lose weight by making them less ravenous at lunch and dinnertime.
(Tried it. Nope.)
(At least now I don’t feel so bad for eating that leftover half-bucket of fried chicken before work this morning!)

ULTRAPRENEURS:
Who are the most influential modern entrepreneurs? Well, not Elon Musk, according to a survey. In a poll of Americans for Herbalife Nutrition, participants were given a list of 40 entrepreneurs from the last 50 years and asked to select those who’ve made the biggest positive impact on society. Microsoft founder Bill Gates came first, followed by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Elon Musk — founder of SpaceX, and CEO of Tesla, came 4th, and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg was 5th. The rest of the top-10: Oprah Winfrey (co-founder of Oxygen, founder of O, The Oprah Magazine), Melinda Gates (co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) and Sam Walton (founder of Walmart and Sam’s Club), followed by Google co-founder Larry Page and Ted Turner, founder of CNN.
(Actually, for most of these people, their biggest “positive impact of society” has been in making divorce lawyers rich!)
(Ummm…Colonel Sanders [or Kylie Jenner], anyone?)

DOMINO’S KNOWS:
Domino’s has finally settled the argument over whether you can throw your used pizza boxes into recycling. Now, printed on every pizza box they deliver in the US, Domino’s is including specific recycling instructions for the customer’s area. Why? Literally billions of corrugated cardboard pizza boxes have gone unrecycled over the years because both consumers and recycling companies believed the leftover grease, sauce, and cheese might gum up the recycling machinery, or weaken the quality of the recycled paper material. To look into the matter, the company that makes Domino’s pizza boxes, West Rock, commissioned a study to see if boxes made up of 20% pizza grease by weight would harm the recycling process. No difference in machine function or quality of recycling paper material was observed, despite the fact that they used an unrealistically greasy box. With that cleared up, Domino’s is now printing everything a customer needs to know to recycle their pizza box right onto the box, including statements like: “Grease DOES NOT Impact the Recyclability!” and “70% of Americans have access to pizza box recycling.” Domino’s recycling website includes contact info for recycling facilities to ask whether or not they accept boxes, as only 27% of US companies specifically mention they accept pizza boxes. LINK: https://recycling.dominos.com/
(I’m pretty sure their pizzas are recyclable too – they’re cardboard, aren’t they?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Students who write their notes by hand tend to get higher grades than their peers, according to new research. A OnePoll survey asked 2,000 parents whether they’ve noticed a preference for digital or analog studying habits in their children aged 6-18. Although taking notes electronically (34%) proved slightly more popular than handwriting (30%), those who use a pen or pencil had a higher median GPA (3.2) than the overall average (2.9). Interestingly, left-handed children favored handwriting more frequently (57%) than right-handed ones (30%). (Even though it always gets smudged!)

BS CHRONOMETER 09.13.22

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Defy Superstition Day”, a day to stare down your superstitions. So, walk under a ladder, break a mirror, let a black cat cross your path, open an umbrella indoors, and do all those other things that many think are bad luck. (Although I think it’s bad luck to believe in superstitions…)
• “Fortune Cookie Day”, celebrating the tasty little treat with a slip of paper inside that brings you good luck, a whimsical saying, or a philosophical thought. It’s thought they were invented in San Francisco around 1914 (How ‘fortunate’ that it’s also “Defy Superstition Day”!)
• “International Chocolate Day”, celebrating ‘the greatest substance known to humanity’. It’s a day for indulgence that should be free of guilt (until you get on the scale tomorrow morning)
• “Peanut Day”, They’re are not really nuts at all, but ‘legumes’ (edible seeds enclosed in pods). Legumes provide the best source of concentrated protein in the plant kingdom (and how perfect is it that it’s also Chocolate Day?)
• “Ants on a Log Day”, dedicated to the tasty, healthy, and fun snack food. Ants on a log consist of a spread, such as peanut butter, placed on celery sticks, with raisins put on top.
• “Bald is Beautiful Day”, a day that we can stop hiding and finally start celebrating the thing that haunts many of us. Today, being bald is beautiful. There will be no hats, crooked toupees, or cover ups of any sort. Let it shine!
• “Positive Thinking Day”. It’s all about attitude … a positive attitude. (And I’m positive this is never gonna fly…)
• “Roald Dahl Day”, He’s best-known as a beloved storyteller. In books like “Matilda”, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, and “James and the Giant Peach”, Dahl brought readers into his wildly original imagination with richly detailed worlds, zany characters, and touching storylines.
• “Snack a Pickle Day”, there are many types of pickles to try:
– Bread and butter—part of sweet family of pickles; has onions and bell peppers; sometimes have a waffle-esque shape.
– Cinnamon – bright red and flavored with cinnamon; sometimes a Christmas treat.
– Dill – made with dill herbs or dill oil.
– Gherkins – smaller and usually sweeter.
– Kool-aid – soaked in Kool-aid and pickle brine.
– Kosher dill – dill pickle with lots of garlic in the salt brine.
– Polish – somewhere between kosher dill and sour.
– Sour – fermented longer in brine, which makes them more sour.
– Sweet – usually made with vinegar, spices, and sugar; includes sliced sweet pickles, or “cross cuts”, which are cut crosswise into chips.
