Our Sheet Don’t Stink!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Fans are worried, darling. Some Twitter users are convinced that Harry Styles spat on Chris Pine’s lap in a now-viral video of the “Don’t Worry Darling” co-stars at the Venice Film Festival premiere Monday. In the footage, the former One Direction member took the empty seat beside Pine, who had director Olivia Wilde on his other side. After the singer seemingly aimed his saliva at the actor, Pine froze mid-clap and stared into his lap with a smile before laughing to himself. Styles avoided eye contact with the “Wonder Woman” star in the video, waving to other audience members behind them. One Twitter user wrote of the footage: “I can’t look away pls help,” while another added that they “won’t sleep until [they] know the truth.” ***UPDATE*** Pine’s rep denies any spittle was shed, saying: “This is a ridiculous story, a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p96z2f5

★ Colin Farrell received a rapturous 13-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival premiere of “The Banshees of Inisherin”. The 46-year-old Irish actor reunites with Brendan Gleeson and director Martin McDonagh in the drama about 2 men whose life-long friendship is abruptly ended. The 2 actors previously starred in McDonagh’s 2008 crime-comedy movie “In Bruges”.  At the Venice ‘Banshees’ debut, McDonagh, Farrell, Gleeson, and co-star Kerry Condon were met with the “longest and loudest reception” of any film that premiered at the festival this season. Some have speculated, however, that this may have been in response to Farrell “who broke with tradition by wading into the crowd to take selfies with fans and sign autographs, which only made the cheering grow louder and more sustained”. The Banshees of Inisherin opens in theaters Oct. 21.

★ Tiffany Haddish has addressed the sexual abuse allegations made against her and fellow comedian Aries Spears. On Instagram, she wrote: “I know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. I’m right there with you. Unfortunately, because there is an ongoing legal case, there’s very little that I can say right now.” She continued, referring to a video published online, titled: “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes”: “Clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn’t funny at all — and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it.” The statement comes after a now-22-year-old woman and her 14-year-old brother filed a lawsuit, alleging Haddish and Spears groomed and sexually abused them during their childhoods.

★ Meet Cy! Jennifer Lawrence has revealed her 6-month-old child’s name and sex, telling Vogue in her October 2022 cover story that she gave birth to a baby boy in February. The little one’s NAME, “CY”, Was inspired by one of her husband Cooke Maroney’s favorite artists, Cy Twombly. Lawrence says in the article that she felt like her “whole life … started over” when they welcomed the infant, calling his arrival her new “day one”, explaining, “I just stared. I was just so in love.”

• Harry Styles — may be in one of the most hotly anticipated movies at the Venice Film Festival, but he still considers himself a newbie in the acting world. The “Don’t Worry Darling” star said he considers music and acting to be “opposite in a lot of ways”, but what he likes about acting is “I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing.”
• Ozzy Osbourne – will play his first North American headlining show in nearly 4 years tomorrow. He’ll perform a multi-song medley during halftime of the Los Angeles Rams-Buffalo Bills 2022 NFL season opener at SoFi Stadium.
• Metallica — Nora Felder, the “Stranger Things” music supervisor, won an Emmy for her work on the series on Sunday. What was the band’s reaction to her introducing their music to a new generation? “They sent me flowers. They sent me this incredible ‘Master of Puppets’ box set, which…my son’s like, ‘that’s worth, like, $3,000!’…And they’re really lovely people.”

• Carrie Underwood — is the latest celeb to hop on the viral “Teenage Dirtbag” trend, posting a compilation vid of some of her most epic shots as a teen. • Walker Hayes – and his wife of 18 years, Laney, “renewed” their vows in a low-key ceremony in their kitchen over the weekend, with help from their young daughter, Everly, who served as officiant. The bride wore workout gear and carried a flower pot, while Hayes sported a backwards baseball cap and jeans for the impromptu ceremony, which was posted to Instagram. • Kane Brown – has shared a preview of his new romantic duet with his wife Katelyn. The R&B infused jam, called ‘Thank God’, will appear on his upcoming “Different Man” album. Brown also shared video of them recording the song in the studio. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/k5dt2prr

SHOOTING THE BULL

BREAKING: GOOD:
Eating a snack, going for a walk or scrolling through social media: No matter how you spend them, microbreaks of 10 minutes or less during work boosts energy levels, according to new research by scientists in Romania. Their study finds “microbreaks” boost an employee’s vigor and decreases their fatigue throughout the day. The researchers say their findings show microbreaks are a potentially useful strategy to help well-being in the workplace, as heavy workloads and long shifts become increasingly common. A break of up to 10 minutes was found to decrease the risk of mistakes and refocus the worker’s attention on the job at hand. It was also determined that taking longer breaks actually increased performance as well as energy levels even more.
(Which is as good reason as any to suggest that we just head home and start on this again tomorrow!)
(Fortunately, working from home, I’m FORCED to take microbreaks throughout the day, because my router is always crapping out!)

‘VIRAL’ APP:
Scientists have come up with a new app that can detect Covid-19 in your voice. Dutch researchers say the AI-powered technology is easier to use and is more precise than a lateral flow test. The app is downloaded to the user’s phone. The person then asked to record some respiratory sounds, including coughing, breathing deeply through the mouth, and reading a short sentence 3 times. A voice technique called Mel-spectrogram analysis is used to identify different voice features like loudness, power and variation. It takes less than a minute to find positive cases and gives the correct result 89% of the time. Negative cases are correctly diagnosed 83% of the time. The new app could be used to detect cases of Covid before big gatherings such as concerts and sports events. It could also be used in poorer countries where PCR tests are pricy to buy and hard to distribute.
(It’s said to be especially effective if your voice is heard saying: “I’ve got COVID”!)
(Just kidding. There’s no app for that!)

EVERYBODY AND THEIR DOG:
An analysis of studies has reiterated previous research that says growing up with a dog can be good for a child’s health and happiness. The people at the Human-Animal Bond Research Institute (yes, there IS such a thing!) say that scientists frequently examine how growing up with a dog affects children, and they say these are some of the benefits:
• Attachment to pets can promote healthy social development, social competence, increased social interaction, improved social communication, and social play in children.
• Childhood pets can be perceived to be nonjudgmental, confidential, and accepting sources of support.
• Pets can be perceived as presenting their feelings authentically in the moment and being more forgiving than humans.
• Growing up with a dog (or other pet) fosters care and responsibility.
HABRI also co-funded a study at Yale University regarding whether interactions with pet dogs can improve symptoms of stress in children. The conclusion? “Brief, unstructured interactions with dogs boosted children’s positive emotions and reduced anxiety.”
(Unless the dog pooped on the neighbor’s lawn and there wasn’t a bag handy. THAT’S an anxious moment…)
(I can honestly say that there’s only one thing better for a kid than having a happy dog waiting for them at home at the end of a tough day at school. And that’s TWO dogs!)

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …
• 83% of us say that if they won the lottery, they’d keep it a secret.
• 69% of adults say they feel judged by their partner for their snacking habits.
• 61% of couples have argued about whether or not to rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.
• 75% of women think that men over age 35 look ridiculous when they wear a hat backwards.
• 31% of guys have borrowed deodorant from their partner.
• 90% of us no longer answer the phone when it’s an unknown number.
• 4% of us are afraid to ride in an elevator.

BS REASONS YOU CAN’T WAIT FOR SUMMER TO END:
(You just don’t know it…)
• Tailgating – Grilling is great, but grilling + sports + beer + getting way too competitive is even better.
• Hot Cocoa – Nothing helps you kick back like a hot cup of cocoa, especially if it’s spiked.
• Halloween Candy – The only time it’s acceptable to have candy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
• Apple Picking – If you don’t pick your own apples, then you’re doing Fall all wrong.
• Holiday Leftovers – Mashed potatoes for days. Cranberry sauce on everything.
• Hot Soup – Not to mention cheddar broccoli bread bowls that’ll warm you up anytime.
• Pumpkin Pie – Might as well pop that top button on your pants now. It’s almost pie time.
• Pumpkin Spice Lattés – The first time each year that you catch a whiff of that pumpkin aroma, it’s magic.
• Mulled Wine – The perfect beverage for every Autumn party or family get-together.
• No More Hot Dogs – Bye-bye, Summer. We’ll be wanting you and your weenies again next year. Until then … so long tube steak!

By the year 2100, more accounts on Facebook will be owned by dead people than the living. (As opposed to now, when we’re most concerned with “braindead” users outnumbering the rest of us…)

• “Salami Day”, started in 2006 by the Salami Appreciation Society to honor the cured Italian sausage that is fermented and air-dried. LINK: http://www.salamiday.com
• “Google Commemoration Day”, honoring the 1998 founding of Google Inc by Sergey Brin & Lawrence Page in a friend’s garage in Menlo Park CA. The original name for the search engine was “BackRub,” because it looked at “back links” to determine how important a site was. (And exactly when did ‘google’ become a verb, then?)
• “Feel the Love Day”, Do something extra special for a partner, relative, or friend today, or simply tell them, “I love you.” (Including Valentine’s Day, that’ll be twice in one year!)
• “Neither Rain nor Snow Day”, commemorating the motto of the US Postal Service – “Neither rain nor snow nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”. (Just dogs…)
• National Beer Lover’s Day”, dedicated to beer, and to everyone who loves to drink it! Beer making can be traced to about 6,000 years ago in ancient Sumeria. The Babylonians, Egyptians and Greeks and Romans all made beer. And during the Middle Ages, due to contamination, beer was a much safer drink than water. (And exactly how should we celebrate this occasion?)
• “Grandma Moses Day”, celebrating the American artist who spent decades living the rural, agricultural life that she would later feature in her paintings. She only began devoting herself to art when she was in her 70s. Completely self-taught, Moses soon became famous for her images of country life.
