Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Judge Judy” announcer Jerry Bishop has died at 84. Bishop died on Tuesday of heart disease in Los Angeles. He established himself as a prominent morning radio host in Los Angeles in the 1960s. He then did voiceover work for companies including Miller Coors, Budweiser and Burger King. He had a 15-year run as the voice of the Disney Channel before joining the syndicated Judge Judy, where he was the announcer on the show from its first season until his final days. In a statement, Judy Sheindlin said: “Everybody loved him. He had a golden heart and generous spirit. I adored him and will miss him.”

★ Ten months after getting married, Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt are gearing up for the next chapter in their lives. The couple, who wed on June 8 of last year, are expecting their first baby together. This will be Katherine’s first child while Pratt is already dad to his 7½-year-old son Jack with ex-wife Anna Faris.

★ Ricky Gervais wants to turn his hit sitcom “The Office” into a musical. The British comedian’s series about the deluded manager of a business in suburban England was such a hit when it aired in 2001, it spawned the huge U.S. spinoff starring Steve Carell – and now Gervais thinks it’s time for a musical adaptation.

★ Francois Clemmons, the performer best known as ‘Officer Clemmons’ on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” says the beloved children’s TV host Fred Rogers once encouraged him NOT to come out as gay. Clemmons was part of the show for 25 years and says he came to think of Rogers as a father figure and mentor. He told “People” that the conversation “destroyed” him when Rogers suggested that Clemmons marry a woman, telling him that he could “have it all if you can keep that part out of the limelight.” Clemmons eventually did marry a woman. The couple has since divorced and Clemmons now lives publicly as a gay man.

★ Dax Shepard resorted to removing a surgical pin from his own hand as medical facilities struggle to meet demand amid the coronavirus pandemic. He has a broken hand, and while he hasn’t yet revealed how the injury occurred, he was more than willing to show fans how to repair it. In a video posted on his wife Kristen Bell’s social media, Shepard is seen removing the pin while on the phone with his doctor, who’s advising him on how to complete the removal safely. (I GUESS you could say that the doctor made a “house call”!)

It’s $3.3 billion since no one at Forbes knows how to count.”

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER:
COVID-19 has forced everyone to make adjustments. Even the rich. According to a rep from Sotheby’s auctions, even with global economies faltering, equity markets shrinking, and people stuck at home indefinitely, upscale jewellery sales are doing well – very well. What they have discovered is that among wealthy clients, buying jewels serves as a sort of pick-me-up. And sequestered clients are wearing their big diamonds and other sparkly things at home because it brings them some joy during these otherwise dreary times. But’s it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for the deep-pocketed. Some are also finding it necessary to do household chores themselves for the first time ever. With drivers and gardeners and housekeepers and nannies in isolation elsewhere, many of the ultra-rich have found themselves in the awkward position of looking after their own cooking, laundry… even cleaning the cat box. Poor souls. The even-better news? In some cases, their spoiled kids are being stuck with chore duty, too.
(While wearing jewellery?)
(The rich are wearing $10,000 diamonds, and I haven’t put on deodorant in a month and a half!)
(I’m not rich, but I, too, find myself doing a lot more around the house these days. Mostly LAYING AROUND it, but…)

WEDDING VIDEO:
Because thousands of couples have been forced to cancel, postpone, or adapt their wedding plans during the COVID-19 outbreak, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has made it easier for nuptials to tie the knot by announcing that New Yorkers are now able to obtain marriage licenses remotely – and that state clerks are now allowed to perform ceremonies via video conference. Since that proclamation last weekend, many couples have done just that, taking advantage of video streaming platforms such as Zoom to host their ceremonies. The #ZoomWedding has become increasingly popular, and many couples seem to feel that their online ceremony was a perfect substitution for the real thing. And in true Zoom style, many wedding “guests” have appeared on screens formally dressed from the waist up — with pajama bottoms out of shot.
(And with their kids crying in the background…just a like a real wedding!)
(I vote we make this a new tradition even after the pandemic!)
(Well, if you can put up with each other through lockdown…)

GOLDEN AGE?
New research says that you’re officially old when you reach 57. According to a survey of 2,000 Americans, that is the age at which people consider themselves old. And as we age, what are our top worries?
• Overall health (39%)
• Wrinkles (36%)
• Weight gain (36%)
• Grey hair (35%)
• Hair loss (34%)
• Not being able to take care of ourselves (34%)
• Age spots (34%)
• Being seen as “old” (33%)
• Financial security (33%)
• Losing independence (19%)
(I haven’t said the word “check” that many times since my last game of chess…which is also an ‘old person’ thing…)
(Well, I wasn’t worried about getting old until I saw all this!)
(57? Ha! Tell that to my knees!)

FAMOUS TV ROLES THAT ALMOST WENT TO OTHER CELEBRITIES:
➢ Ellen DeGeneres was offered the role of ‘Phoebe’ on “Friends”, but she turned it down and Lisa Kudrow was cast. (And Courteney Cox was originally offered the role of ‘Rachel’.)
➢ Matt LeBlanc was offered the role of ‘Phil Dunphy’ on “Modern Family”, but turned it down because he felt like the part was written with someone else in mind.
➢ Matthew Broderick was offered the role of ‘Walter White’ on “Breaking Bad”, but he turned it down. (“If I’m gonna get busted, it is not gonna be by a guy like that.”)
➢ Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul,” “Breaking Bad”) was supposed to play ‘Michael Scott’ on “The Office” because originally, Steve Carell was already busy with another series.
➢ Iwan Rheon originally auditioned for ‘Jon Snow’ on “Game of Thrones” and didn’t get the role. He eventually got called in to play ‘Ramsay Bolton’ in Season 3.

DID YOU KNOW?
Another major event has fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic. The 9th annual Testicle Festival in Deerfield, Michigan has been postponed. It’s held at the Deerfield Legion and usually attracts about 2,000 visitors. The main attraction, of course, is the opportunity to eat…wait for it…fried bull testicles. The event has been rescheduled for May 9th, and the testicles are being frozen until then.
(OK, this one hurts…)
(Not the Testy Festy too!)
(I’m glad someone decided to take charge and grab the bull by the….oh, never mind…)
