BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Get ready to hear the soothing sound of LeVar Burton’s voice on “Jeopardy!”, thanks to his many fans. The show has announced that Burton, best known for his years as host of children’s show “Reading Rainbow,” and as an actor on “Roots” and “Star Trek”, will be part of this season’s final lineup of guest hosts. Calls for Burton to stand behind the podium reached fever pitch in recent weeks, as a Change.org petition to “make him the next host” amassed more than 246,000 signatures. Following the announcement, Burton tweeted: “THANK YOU… to all y’all for your passionate support! I am overjoyed, excited, and eager to be guest-hosting Jeopardy!, and will do my utmost best to live up to your faith.”

★ James Corden almost had a major slip-up during his monologue when he almost gave up Oprah Winfrey’s phone number on air. Corden and his on-stage crew were discussing hotels, and Corden asked which celeb’s hotel they would want to stay at, if it were to actually open. After some deliberation, the men unanimously agreed that they would want stay in a hotel opened by Oprah. When someone suggested Corden actually call Oprah to pitch the idea, he did exactly that. But he also almost revealed her number on speakerphone. Corden quickly ended the call, after the automated messaged read out the numbers “3” and “1”. Oh, and minutes later, Oprah returned the call, and responded positively to the idea.

★ Tom Bergeron has responded to rumors that he may be returning to “Dancing With the Stars”. He posted a video to his Instagram, saying that he finds his fans’ sincere response to the possibility to be “very flattering” and “heartwarming.” Rumors were sparked after Bergeron tweeted the words “stay tuned” on Monday, along with a clip from “The Godfather”, in which ‘Michael Corleone’ delivers the iconic phrase “just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” Bergeron indicated he’ll be able to give more details next week “at the latest”.

★ Hulu has announced it has given a 10-episode series order to “How I Met Your Father”, the long-awaited sequel series to “How I Met Your Mother”, with Hilary Duff in the lead role. The premise should sound familiar enough: Set in the near future, it will follow ‘Sophie’ (Duff) telling her son the story of how she met his father back in 2021, when Sophie and her close-knit group of friends were figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

When her mother realizes who’s on the other end of the call, she breaks into tears and tells Cher: “I love you. I can’t do this. It’s too much.”
• Weezer – Their long-awaited homage to metal “Van Weezer”, will be released May 7. The group has released the new song ‘I Need Some of That’. It follows the release of last year’s ‘Hero’ and ‘Beginning of the End’, as well as 2019’s ‘The End of the Game’, all of which appear on “Van Weezer”.
• Kiss — Netflix has won a bidding war to produce a band biopic titled “Shout It Out Loud”, according to a report. The film is “on a fast track” and will be directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Ronning (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”). Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will reportedly be closely involved in the making of Shout It Out Loud.
• Bonnie Tyler – posted an emotional to the late Jim Steinman, who died on Monday. She wrote: “Jim was a true genius. SHOOTING THE BULL

BOOZE NEWS:
It’s Friday. Raise a glass – as if you weren’t going to, anyway. And if you’re over the age of, say, 30, raise a few glasses, because according to new research, hangovers hurt less as you get older. I know! This flies in the face of everything that you believed to be true up to this point in your life. But that’s what science is telling us. The study, by Utrecht University in the Netherlands, invited 761 Dutch alcohol consumers aged 18-94 to document their booze consumption, alongside their experience of hangovers. Researchers concluded that “hangover severity declines with age”. But how can this be? One possible explanation is that our sensitivity to pain tends to decline as we get older, so that could be why younger participants report worse hangover symptoms.
(Yes, this goes against the results of literally dozens of other studies, but I’m willing to happily accept the results!)
(I believe that’s called “alcohol tolerance, and the older people who participated in the study should be invited to an intervention at the first possible opportunity…)
(I think it’s actually because when you’re young, you buy cheap, crappy booze!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Windsor, Ont., health and wellness business has posted a sign informing customers that they will not be allowed to enter the store if they have received a COVID-19 vaccine. The owner of Herb Plus Beadworks posted the sign on the front door, stating: “Please note: to ensure the safety of our employees and existing clients, the shop is not allowing anyone in who has taken the experimental vaccine.” According to him, “We don’t have enough data right now to say that these (vaccines) are safe.” He says he is concerned that if “somebody gets sick from being in contact” with someone who has been vaccinated against COVID-19, “we are going to lose our business.” Alison Thompson, a public health ethicist at the University of Toronto, says “there is no scientific basis for the reason to exclude someone from the store.” (And if that doesn’t keep them away, I’m sure the bad publicity will!)
➢ Police responding to a report of an intruder broke down the front door and stormed the house, only to find the suspected burglar was actually a robot vacuum. Yana Sydnor and her 2-year-old daughter were sleeping at their Natomas, CA home when she was awakened by a sound she thought was an intruder. She called 911 and hid in the bathroom with her daughter. Sydnor said she heard police break down her front door moments later, followed by the sound of laughter when they discovered the suspected intruder was the family’s robot vacuum, which her son, who was away, had recently turned on after it not being used for 2 years. (It was just ‘collecting dust’?)

DID YOU KNOW?
In recent years at the Academy Awards, winners were allowed just 45 seconds to make their speech before producers played music to give them the hook. This year, the time limit will be relaxed. Director Steven Soderbergh, who is one of the show’s producers this year, says, “we’re giving them space. We’ve encouraged them to tell a story, and to say something personal.” He says the ceremony will be shot like a movie, with presenters “playing themselves, or at least a version of themselves.”

• “Talk Like Shakespeare Day”, observed on the anniversary of the bard’s birth (and his death at age 52).
TIPS FOR TALKING LIKE SHAKESPEARE: Instead of “you,” say “thou.” Instead of “y’all,” say “thee.” Thy, Thine and Ye are all good pronouns, too. Men are “sirrah,” ladies are “mistress,” and your friends are all called “cousin.” And to add weight to your opinions, start them with methinks, mayhaps, in sooth, or wherefore.
• “World Book & Copyright Day”, declared annually by UNESCO to promote reading and books on the death anniversary of both William Shakespeare, and Miguel de Cervantes in 1616.
• “World Laboratory Day”, celebrating the place where great discoveries, inventions, and medical cures are born. (And where mad scientists dwell.)
• “English Language Day”, celebrating the date in 1362 when the Chancellor of the UK opened Parliament with a speech in English for the first time, a landmark in its development as a world language. English is now considered by many to be THE world language, and is often the second language of choice in non-English countries. (Ever notice how some of us think that all foreigners should understand English if we just speak it loudly enough?)

SATURDAY-
• “Pigs in a Blanket Day”, celebrating the breakfast taste-treat of sausage wrapped in a pancake.
• “New Kids on The Block Day”, yup, the singing group. Some refer to NKOTB as the original boy band that set the example for its successors. (And by example, I mean dance moves.)
• “World Meningitis Day”, for people to raise their voices against meningitis, through telling patient stories, raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of the disease, and increasing knowledge of available vaccines. Over 1 million people are affected each year.
• “World Veterinary Day”, an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of veterinarians to the health of animals, people and the environment.

SUNDAY-
• “Anzac Day”, a public holiday and national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand commemorating Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”.
• “Plumbers Day”, OK, let’s all do the plumbers’ salute … drop your pants 2 inches!
• “DNA Day”, celebrating the discovery and understanding of DNA and the scientific advances that understanding has made possible. (Which I don’t understand at all…)
• “Red Hat Day”, an annual celebration of the ‘Red Hat Society’, begun in 1997 as a social organization for women over 50 and to reshape the way they’re viewed. There are now millions of mature women who attend ‘RHS’ events worldwide. LINK: http://www.redhatsociety.com
• “Telephone Day”, call someone and wish them “Happy Telephone Day”. They’ll probably hang up on you (if they answer at all…)
• “Hairstylist Appreciation Day”, be nice to your hairstylist because there’s nothing stopping her/him from plucking one of your hairs and putting it at a crime scene!
• “Mani-Pedi Day”, an annual celebration of clip joints.
• “World Penguin Day”, marking the annual northward migration of penguins, which happens each year on or around this day. Penguins do not fly. They walk. More of a waddle, actually. (Go, Sidney Crosby, go!)
• “Crayola Day”, there are over one hundred different types of crayons made by Crayola, including some that sparkle with glitter, glow in the dark, smell like flowers, change colors, and wash off walls.

BULL’S BITS

BS WHACK OSCAR FACTS:
✓ On the statue, Oscar is standing on a reel of film gripping a crusader’s sword. The 5 spokes of the film reel represent the original branches of the Academy — actors, directors, producers, technicians and writers.
✓ While an Oscar is of infinite value to someone who wins one, the actual trophy has a raw value of about $600.
✓ The official Oscar engravers are R.S. Owens, and they make plates for every nominee so no one knows the winner ahead of time.
✓ The iconic red carpet is 500 feet long (152m) and 33 feet (10m) wide.
✓ The “golden envelopes” used during the ceremony are made of burgundy satin, lacquered paper and gold leaf foil, and weigh 4 ounces (113g).
✓ The phrase: “And the winner is…” was discontinued in 1989. Presenters are now required to say, “And the Oscar goes to …”
