Here’s More Bull Roar!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kanye West has agreed to joint custody of his and Kim Kardashian’s four young children. His response mirrors Kardashian’s divorce filing from February. In both of their filings, the rapper and the reality star agreed that their marriage should end over irreconcilable differences. They have also agreed that they do not need spousal support. West and Kardashian have two daughters – North and Chicago, ages 7 and 3 — and two sons – Saint, who is 5, and Psalm, who turns 2 next month. According to Kardashian’s filing, they kept their property separate throughout their marriage because of the terms of a pre-nuptial agreement.

★ The Oscars are fully committing to the idea that this year’s ceremony will be like a “movie” — not an awards show — and have now announced its “ensemble cast” of stars to present the night’s prizes. This year’s ceremony is “starring,” in alphabetical order, Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Bong Joon Ho, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Laura Dern, Harrison Ford, Regina King, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Renée Zellweger and Zendaya. The 93rd Academy Awards are Sunday, April 25.

★ Will Smith and director Antoine Fuqua have pulled production of their runaway slave drama “Emancipation” from Georgia over the state’s recently-enacted law restricting voting access. In a statement, Smith and Fuqua said: “We cannot in good conscience provide economic support to a government that enacts regressive voting laws that are designed to restrict voter access.” They call the new Georgia voting laws “reminiscent of voting impediments that were passed at the end of Reconstruction to prevent many Americans from voting.”

★ Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song are parents. The couple welcomed their first child, son Dakota Song Culkin, on Monday in Los Angeles. 40-year-old Culkin and 33-year-old Song named their newborn after the actor’s late sister Dakota, who died at age 29 after being struck by a car in 2008. In a statement, Culkin and Song said “We’re overjoyed”.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lil Nas X – His music video for ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ is still making waves on social media, but now the rapper has thrown a video game into the mix. Last week, he released “Twerk Hero”, a free browser game similar to “Guitar Hero”, but with twerking as the main mechanic.
• (***Caution: “Damn”***) Olivia Rodrigo – The ‘Drivers License’ singer has been handed a parking ticket. The 18-year-old, who took 4 attempts to pass her driving test, received a Los Angeles Parking Violation in the mail. She posted a pic with the words: “damn this driving (stuff) isn’t all fun and games”
• Phoebe Bridgers – The guitar she smashed on “Saturday Night Live” in February seemed like it wasn’t going to see much more action, but it managed to strike a chord among would-be collectors when GLAAD sold it at auction. It went for a shocking $101,500 when bidding closed Sunday.
• Janet Jackson – Her wedding dress from her 1991 marriage to Rene Elizondo Jr. is going up for auction next month, alongside about 1,000 other personal possessions. Another big draw is the futuristic outfits she wore in the video for ‘Scream,’ her duet with late brother Michael. The items will be exhibited in London, New York and Los Angeles prior to the 3-day sale, May 14-16.
• Barenaked Ladies – have dropped their first new music in 4 years. ‘Flip’ is the first single from their 16th studio album “Detour de Force”. This Sat., the band will have a global streaming event, “Flip n’ Hits with BNL: A Night of Monster Jams of Pandemic Proportions”, with special guest KT Tunstall.
• AC/DC — singer Brian Johnson will release his autobiography “The Lives of Brian — AC/DC, Me and the Making of Back in Black” on Oct. 26. Quote: “I’ve gone from choirboy to rock ‘n’ roll singer – and now I’ve gone and written a bloody book about it.”
• The Who — 5 decades after their iconic “The Who Sell Out” album artwork, which featured Roger Daltrey sitting in a bath full of Heinz Beanz, they’re set to launch limited-edition “Beanz Meanz The Who” cans to mark the release of the new expanded edition of the 1967 album, and raise funds for Teen Cancer America (in the US), and Magic Breakfast and the Teenage Cancer Trust in the UK.
• Luke Bryan – missed Monday’s live taping of “American Idol” after testing positive for COVID-19. Former judge Paula Abdul stepped in to replace him, joining Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Bryan tweeted that he is “doing well and look forward to being back at it soon.”
• Brad Paisley – He and wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley launched The Store, their free grocery store in Nashville, in March 2020. Now, they report that in its first year, The Store has delivered enough free food to make nearly 1.3 million meals.
• Dustin Lynch – says that with his unexpected spare time during the pandemic, he’s taken up some new hobbies. Quote: “I got my endorsement to ride street bikes, because I just like the idea of being able to get on a big hog and ride into the farm.” He has also been working toward getting his pilot’s license.

SHOOTING THE BULL

A DIFFERENT ‘SCHOOL’ OF THOUGHT:
After a year of remote learning and socially-distanced classrooms, a school in Spain is introducing “school on a beach” to combine clear air and a new way of teaching. Mask-wearing children can be seen sitting in front of a portable blackboard in rows of neatly spaced desks — on the sandy shores of Playa de los Nietos (Grandchildren’s Beach). It’s part of a project known as “Fresh Air”, which aims to create better air quality for children during the pandemic, including through open-air learning. Eight classes take part in 20-minute lessons and groups rotate through the different areas. Children at the school are ages 3-12 and remain in their class bubbles. A teacher reports that not only are the beach classes safe for kids, they have fun, and “what they learn here, they don’t forget”. There have been no reported cases of coronavirus so far.
(Sorry kids, but you’re definitely not the first students to spend part of their school day at the beach!)
(Then what are they supposed to do AFTER school?)
(Calling it the “Fresh air” program was actually the second choice. For some reason, the parents didn’t like “Some on a beach”!!)

A ROBOT’S “ORDERS”:
You’ve heard of grocery delivery. But how about grocery delivery…via ROBOT? Hoping to capitalize on the surge in demand for home deliveries, a Singapore technology company has deployed a pair of robots to bring people their groceries in one part of the city-state. Both named “Camello”, the robots’ services are being offered to 700 households in a one-year trial. Users can book their delivery times, and an app tells them when the robot is about to reach a pickup point – such as the lobby of an apartment building. The robots are equipped with 3D sensors, a camera, and 2 compartments, each able to carry up to 44lb (20 kg) of food or parcels which the customer has ordered online. They use UV light to disinfect themselves after every trip.
(Well, that’s definitely “contactless” delivery!)
(One good thing – you don’t have to tip them…)
(I hope, just like cashiers, it tells you which bag has eggs in it!)

IT’S A GOOD THING THEY’RE CUTE:
It turns out that when you told your kids that owning a pet “is a lot of work”, you were right. According to a new study, the average pet owner spends 832 hours each year (more than 34 days!) cleaning up after their pets. In the survey of 2,000 pet owners, 75% say they clean their homes “constantly” since getting a furry friend. 64% says they always clean their pets after going outside to avoid muddy pawprints inside. Other findings:
• 68% would break up with anyone who didn’t get along with their dog or cat.
• 73% would keep their pet if they suddenly woke up with a dog or cat allergy.
(I don’t even spend that much time THINKING about cleaning!)
(Kids don’t care about that, because it’s always Mom that ends up doing the cleaning!)
(832 hours per year is a LOT of cleaning. But totally worth it…)

DID YOU KNOW?

Scientists have discovered that gorillas thump their sternums to avoid — rather than instigate — a fight. German researchers determined that pec-pounding advertises the primate’s size, fighting prowess and other practical info, providing rivals a picture of what they’d be up against if they chose to throw down. They found that bigger gorillas produce lower frequencies than their smaller counterparts, signifying that pectoral percussion is an “honest signal of competitive ability” and size. As larger body size correlates to higher social rank — and therefore fighting ability — scientists say that conveying it through chest-beating could help gorillas avoid violence — a must in a species that grows up to 500 pounds.
