BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The “Friends” reunion is finally…almost here. After COVID-19 delays, filming for the highly anticipated HBO Max reunion has wrapped, according to the official Instagram account for the show. None of the cast members have posted updates, though Matthew Perry briefly posted a photo himself getting his makeup done for the special, before deleting it. The cast will reminisce about the show and the impact it has had, with creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane also reported to be joining in. No air date has been announced.

★ Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman’s new show “Dog Unleashed” was canceled at the last minute in March, and now producers have revealed why. Unleashed Entertainment says that Chapman was “racist and homophobic” on set, and took part in “illegal activity during filming”, breaching his contract by violating the company’s standards of conduct. The explanation came after Chapman raged at Unleashed in a string of tweets last week.  It’s not the first time Chapman has faced similar accusations. In 2007, a recording of a conversation between him and his son Tucker was leaked, which contained a torrent of racist slurs and rhetoric.

★ George Clooney knows a Kodak moment when he sees one. He headed to Marcorelle’s Fine Wine and Beer in Ipswich, Massachusetts on Friday to film a few scenes for his new film “The Tender Bar”. When he arrived, he discovered a cardboard cutout of himself from a tequila advertisement. According to manager Lean Smith, “He came in, and we have two big cutouts in the store of him, and he actually took a photo with his cutout.” As you would expect, Smith reports that “He was very nice. He was an incredibly nice guy.”

★ “The Sopranos” star Joseph Siravo has died at age 64. The actor, best known for playing Tony Soprano’s father in the much-loved TV series, passed away on Sunday, after losing a long battle with cancer. As well as starring in The Sopranos, Siravo appeared in an episode of “Law and Order”, and the film “Carlito’s Way”, opposite Sean Penn and Al Pacino.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Timberlake – will play “Gong Show” host Chuck Barris in an upcoming untitled Apple TV+ comedy series based on the 1984 memoir “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”. In the book, Barris made wild claims that his TV work was a cover-up for his real job: A CIA assassin.
• Bad Bunny – The WWE fanatic made his high-flying wrestling debut Saturday with a tag-team match during the first night of WrestleMania 37 in Tampa FL. The Puerto Rican rapper and his cohort Damian Priest faced off against their nemesis “the Miz” and his tag team partner John Morrison. They “won”.
• Natasha Bedingfield – Her hit ‘Unwritten’ has been turned into the latest dance craze on TikTok, and she has joined in on the fun. She posted a clip of herself dancing to a remix of the 2004 song edited beside a clip of a group of girls doing the same moves. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/36rjw7nw
• Queen – have been “trying things out” in the studio with Adam Lambert. Brian May and Roger Taylor have been performing live with Lambert for a decade, but have never recorded new material with him, and it seems fans will have to wait even longer, because May says that so far, the recording sessions didn’t turn out the way they had hoped.
• Sammy Hagar — In a new interview, when asked if there is anything that he wishes he had included in his 2011 autobiography, he responded “There’s nothing I didn’t say. I kind of wish I would have been a little more conservative about the Van Halen years. But I was angry when I wrote the book.” He and Van Halen patched things up in the months leading to the guitarist’s death.
• Kane Brown – has announced a one-of-a-kind fall and winter tour. “The Blessed & Free Tour” will begin Oct. 1 in Sacramento, CA, and of the 35 dates, 29 will take place in NBA arenas. That will make Brown the first country artist to play every pro basketball venue in America on a single tour. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
• Clay Walker – will drop his new album “Texas to Tennessee” on July 30. He enlisted Jason Aldean’s producer, Michael Knox, to co-produce the album’s lead single ‘Need a Bar Sometimes’.
• Dolly Parton – The launch of her new ice cream flavor created pandemonium last week. She teamed up with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams on the “Strawberry Pretzel Pie” flavor, and some who managed to get their hands on it tried to cash in … by listing pints on eBay for up to $1,000.

SHOOTING THE BULL

HAPPY MEAL:
It seems that when it comes to eating, it’s not just what you eat, but who you eat it with and where, when it comes to staying trim. Food experts studying how the pandemic has shaped family mealtimes have found in interviews with teenagers that they report vast improvement in their health, as a result of eating at the table with their families, and without their phones or tablets. In a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, researchers note that slower eating and conversation can help adolescents to recognize when they’re full. When families devoted less time to each other, did not sit at the table, were distracted by phones or did not engage in conversation, they also ate more unhealthily, and were more likely to be obese. Parents also found they were able to forge closer bonds with their teenage children if they ate together, and those who established healthy eating patterns for their children were more successful. The study backed up other results which demonstrate eating together as a family is related to a healthier diet, with more fruit and vegetables, and fewer sugary drinks.
(That’s great, but I’m getting REALLY tired of cooking for my wife’s entire family…)
(In our house, if Dad’s doing the cooking, we’re ALL likely to consume fewer calories!)
(Does going to a “family-style” restaurant count?)

HOME ALONE:
With many workers making plans to head back to the office after a year of working from home, animal experts are warning pet owners that their furry friends may require expensive therapy to deal with separation anxiety. Expert animal trainer and counselor Malena DeMartini-Price says she has a client who has spent has spent $4,800 so far to help her 18-month-old mutt, Jasper, adjust to the sad reality that she is physically returning to work in less than two weeks. DeMartini-Price’s employer offers a remotely-supervised “desensitization program” which involves the pet spending incrementally longer periods of time apart from its owner. The American Veterinary Medical Association suggests that pet owners can prepare their dogs to be home alone themselves, by beginning now to leave your pet alone for a few hours at a time, leaving distractions around for your pet, such as videos, music and toys, and even considering hiring a pet-sitter.
(A pet-sitter HAS to be cheaper than $4,800!)
(We have a 4-year-old and 2 kittens. The dog’s gonna need therapy anyway….)
(My dog sees me step out of the shower. If he doesn’t already need therapy, he never will!)

LAUNDERING YOUR DIRTY AIRPODS:
Have you ever noticed that, after a while, your beautiful, bright white wireless earbuds gradually turn to a yucky yellow-brown tint? And cleaning them is such a gross chore that you never get around to it? Now, there’s a solution – a tiny ‘earbud washing machine’! The USB-powered Cardlax Earbuds Washer is compatible with all wireless earbuds, and its designer says it provides a thorough, safe cleaning without damaging them. And yes, it DOES look like a tiny washing machine. There are 2 stages: Most of the larger debris is first cleaned away using a soft rotating brush. Next, alcohol is added to the ‘drum’ of the machine, which is made of the same soft material that’s used to make makeup sponges, and rubbing against the alcohol-misted foam walls as well as the foam fins inside gives the earbuds a thorough cleaning. You can get your hands on a Cardlax Earbuds Washer by backing the project on Kickstarter for US $33.  VIDEO LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3scrbb3n
(The ironic thing is that mine have already been through the washing machine 3 times!)
(Shouldn’t there be an app for that?)
(So, you’re telling me it’s a bad idea to clean them in my mouth?)

FOODS THAT BOOST YOUR ENERGY (AND FOODS THAT DRAIN IT):
Energy-boosting:
⇒ Bananas:  A great way to quickly get a boost of energy from their naturally occurring sugar, fructose, which is a carbohydrate. (They’re cheap, too, which I like!)
⇒ Eggs:  A powerhouse of protein and nutrients that help with energy metabolism and slow sugar absorption in the bloodstream when paired with carbs. (Is bacon a carb?)
⇒ Black beans:  Not only versatile, they are an excellent source of plant-based protein, gut-healthy fiber and energy-boosting carbs. And iron. (And…well, you know!)
⇒ Pistachios:  The trio of protein, fiber and fat helps keep you fuller for longer and provides sustained energy.
⇒ Water:  Surprise! One of the biggest signs of dehydration is fatigue. Keeping yourself well-hydrated can quickly turn fatigue into a boost of energy. (Anyone got a water recipe?)
Energy-draining:
⇒ Caffeine/Energy Drinks:  Not only can they lead to a caffeine crash about 5 hours after consumption, if you consume them later in the day, they can keep you from getting a good night’s sleep and leave you tired the next day. (But that’s “Tomorrow-Me’s” problem!)
⇒ Candy:  Sugary candy provides a momentary burst of energy, but then causes an energy zap. (Not if you keep eating it!)
⇒ Steak:  After eating steak, your body has to go into overdrive digesting and metabolizing the extra protein. Your energy will be drained and you’ll likely feel sluggish and overly full. (Of course, the baked potato with cream cheese and 3 large beers don’t help either…)
⇒ Fruit smoothies:  Without the right balance of ingredients, your blood sugar levels will spike and you’ll feel hungry, and experience an energy slump shortly afterward.
⇒ Low-calorie frozen meals:  In addition to usually not providing enough calories for a full meal their high amounts of sodium lead to water retention, bloating and fatigue. (Not to mention shame, when you have to put the box out in your recycling…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Most baseball caps have a button on the top. Why? That button is called a “squatchee” or “squatcho”. Fitted baseball caps (not the ones with an adjustable strap on the back), are made from 6 triangular pieces of fabric, and the 6 folds are sewn together at the top. Manufactures placed a button over the little circle where the pieces come together to hide it. It’s a purely decorative touch which, like a lot of baseball-related things, is deeply-rooted in tradition.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Scrabble Day”, honoring one of the world’s most popular games on the anniversary of the 1899 birth date of its inventor, Alfred Butts, a jobless architect who came up with the idea during the Great Depression of the 1930s. A few facts …
– Among the proposed names for early versions of ‘Scrabble’ were ‘Lexiko’ and ‘Criss Cross Words’.
– After Scrabble was trademarked in 1948, it was manufactured by friends and family, who painstakingly stamped letters on wooden tiles one at a time. Rate of production: 12 games an hour.
– The game was just a fad with Butts’ friends until a Macy’s executive saw it being played at a resort in 1952 and the then-world’s largest department store soon began carrying it.

• “National Peach Cobbler Day” A cobbler is a deep-dish fruit pie covered with a thick crust made from biscuit dough. (You had me at deep-dish. And at thick crust. And at biscuit dough.)

• “Be Kind to Lawyers Day”, held each year to show appreciation to those who make it their responsibility to handle our (and the nation’s) legal matters. Today, ensure that the lawyers in your life know how much you appreciate their tireless efforts. (By NOT telling a lawyer joke?)

• “Thomas Jefferson Day”, honoring the birth of the third President of The United States, Thomas Jefferson, who was born on this date in 1743. Most-known as the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson was a stalwart of democracy.
