Sheeters Always Prosper!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Johnny Depp has addressed the elephant in the room — claiming that Hollywood is “boycotting” him following The Sun newspaper’s “wife-beater” claims. He sat for an interview to promote his new movie, “Minamata” — and opened up about what he perceives as a de facto ousting from the biz. He agrees with director Andrew Levitas, who feels MGM bosses are “burying” the movie because of Depp’s legal matters. He also vowed to shed more light on the “truth” and thanked fans for sticking with him. Depp sued the U.K. publication over the allegations, in reference to reported attacks on ex-wife Amber Heard during their tumultuous marriage. He ended up losing the lawsuit.

★ Dealing a death blow with one finger, Jennifer Lopez on Saturday unfollowed her former fiancée Alex Rodriguez on Instagram. Besides unfollowing Rodriguez, which one could potentially wave away with “oh, my thumb must have slipped, sorry,” she also went back and deleted every trace of her ex from the social network. The deleted pictures include one of the two of them at President Biden’s inauguration, where Lopez, in an all-white Chanel outfit, sang a medley. We can confirm that Rodriguez is, as of yesterday, still following J-Lo on Instagram.

★ Ryan Reynolds has confirmed a “Free Guy” sequel is on the way. He stars in the film as a bank teller who sets out to save his friends from deletion when he learns he’s a character inside a video game. Reynolds was thrilled to tell fans that Disney is keen to make a follow-up film after a successful $51 million opening weekend for the movie worldwide. Free Guy was finally released after a number of delays caused by the pandemic and Reynolds recently said he was desperate for audiences to see the film in cinemas because it is such a “unique experience”.

★ Disney+’s long-awaited “Home Alone” reboot will debut just in time for the holidays. “Home Sweet Home Alone” will premiere exclusively on Disney+ Nov. 12. The film, which comes over 30 years after the original landed in theaters in 1990, puts a modern twist on the Home Alone story. Home Sweet Home Alone stars Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Archie Yates, Kenan Thompson and Chris Parnell.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Live Nation – will require all attendees at their festivals and venues to show proof of full vaccination or a negative coronavirus test. The concert organizers had previously announced it would be up to performers whether to enforce the mandate, but they have now declared all artists, crew and attendees must submit to the checks beginning Oct. 4, where permitted by law.
• Kanye West – Stop me if you’ve heard this one, but his much anticipated – and oft-delayed “Donda” album has a new release date. According to Apple music, the project will drop on Aug. 20. That’s after earlier release dates of July 23, Aug. 6 & 15 were missed. Oh, also July 24, 2020.
• Usher – plans to release a new album this year, his first since 2016’s “Hard II Love”. He wouldn’t confirm rumors that he is developing a ‘sequel’ to his hit 2004 album “Confessions”, but says fans won’t have to wait long for some “unique” songs.
• The Killers — are already “figuring out” their next studio album. They released their 7th record, “Pressure Machine”, on Friday, but say they’re not wasting any time, and have already started working on “orphan songs” that they hope will form the basis of another one.
• Billy Joel — during his Saturday night show in Buffalo, he served up a surprise guest. Buffalo native and Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik joined Joel and his band for a performance of the Dolls’ 1998 hit ‘Iris’. Before the band started the song, Rzeznick said to Joel: “Welcome to my hometown.”
• The Cure — bassist Simon Gallup says he’s exited the band. On Facebook, he wrote: “With a slightly heavy heart I am no longer a member of the Cure!” When asked if the departure was health-related, he added, “I’m ok […] just got fed up of betrayal.” Interestingly, in 2018, frontman Robert Smith said in an interview that if Gallup ever left, it “wouldn’t be called the Cure.”
• Earth, Wind & Fire – have teamed up with producer Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and singer-songwriter Lucky Dave for a reimagining of their hit ‘You Want My Love’ to celebrate the song’s 45th anniversary. It will be released this Friday.
• Kacey Musgraves — As a part of the creative process for writing her upcoming album, she says she took a guided psychedelic trip that put her in touch with the 9-year-old girl she was when she first started performing music. Quote: “I had all these childhood memories pop up that I hadn’t remembered. They played out in my mind like I was watching a home video…and it was things that actually happened.”
• Chris Young – says his new album “Famous Friends” likely benefited from the time he spent off the road as a result of the pandemic. And he also has high hopes for new music from his country music pals: “We hopefully are gonna get a whole bunch of great music from everybody out of that.”
• Tenille Arts – Last week, she not only dropped her new song with Matt Stell, ‘Over You Is You’, she revealed that her third album “Girl to Girl” will be released October 22nd. She says the record’s 13 songs were written as “letters to my current and younger self”.

SHOOTING THE BULL

FOODSTUFF:
➢ White bread may not be so bad for you after all. While many dieters believe that eating “fast carbs” will make you fat, a new study finds there’s really no difference between fast or slow carbs when it comes to weight gain – or weight loss. In a report commissioned by the Grain Foods Foundation, scientists discovered little difference in how high-glycemic and low-glycemic foods impact weight management. It has long been thought that fast carbs, as a high-GI food, promote fat storage and increase obesity risk, but the new study of nearly 2 million adults found the impact of fast carbs such as white bread, pasta or bananas is no more harmful than slow carbs, such as bran flakes, nuts and fresh fruits.  (So, all those years of looking down my nose at people with white bread in their shopping cart was for nothing?)
➢ Instagram food nutritionist Lyndi Cohen says you’ve been squeezing avocados wrong your whole life. And she has a tip on how to check to see if one is ripe without diminishing its flavor. Cohen has developed a loyal following for her food tips and recipes, most of which contain avocados, which she admits she probably eats “every day”. According to her, squeezing fruit ruins some of the flavor. Instead of grasping the whole fruit and squeezing it to check ripeness, the nutritionist says you should “gently press near the top” and see if it gives way. If it does, it is good to eat and you won’t have bruised the fruit or taken away any flavor. Her big takeaway? “If the skin gives in, it’s ready to eat.” (And if it’s ready to eat, be careful with that knife!)
➢ A “baked bean bandit” is emptying cans of the good stuff all over a village in a sticky reign of terror. In the countryside village of Wonersh, population 3,000, a mystery vandal has been covering doorsteps, homes and cars with the contents of the bean cans, and police are asking anyone with information to spill the…well, you know. According to a spokesperson, “Officers have received reports of incidents where beans and other food has been poured onto residents’ front doors and cars overnight.” Cops also posted pics of the messy crime scenes. One shows 4 empty cans of Heinz beans discarded near a doorstep covered with little orange beans. Another shows a grey car with sauce dribbling down the driver’s window, leaving an unsightly orange smudge. (What kind of half-baked crime is this?)

TECH TALK:
⇒ Blackberry’s back! The pioneering smartphone company has announced that it will provide highly-secure vehicle-based payment capability. The vehicle-based payment solution will allow automakers to offer an array of payment services and develop new revenue streams. Blackberry says its solution will create a “digital fingerprint” for the vehicle, allowing it to securely connect to a bank’s payment network, validate, and pay for a wide range of services, including fuel, tolls, parking, insurance and maintenance. Historically, vehicle-based payment processes have been complex and require traditional banking tools such as physical credit cards or multiple smartphone apps to communicate with merchants and service providers. (Great. Next, they’ll be charging you a ‘subscription rate’ to use your car’s features. “To continue using your seat belt, please validate this month’s payment…”)
⇒ A doctor says that using earbuds blocks the ear’s ability to clean itself and can contribute to the development of infections. According to Dr. Allon Mordel, the medical director at K Health, a medical app that uses AI provide users with primary care, your ear “regularly sheds all the skin and everything out of the canal, along with the wax and the sweat, and it just cleans itself every single day.” By putting an earbud in, it blocks the ability for anything to come out, and “everything will just build up behind it and now you’ve got a warm, wet environment for bacteria to grow that’s blocked by the earbud.” To avoid infection, he suggests cleaning the devices once per week with an alcohol wipe, and giving your ears a break from wearing buds from time to time. (An infection sounds nasty…still, for the chance to pretend I didn’t notice my annoying neighbor – TOTALLY WORTH IT!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The International Space Station got an eagerly anticipated delivery last week. A cargo ship containing fresh apples, tomatoes, kiwis, and best of all, pizza for seven. Actually, it was a pizza kit, so the astronauts can make their own piping-hot pies . . . a far cry from typical space food. Trying to replicate the comforts of home has been important to astronauts since the early days of the space program. In 1969, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong tried to butter bread on Apollo 11. And in 1971, Apollo 14 commander Alan Shepard feasted on a hot dog. (And YOU think it’s inconvenient when they get your pizza order wrong…)
