We’ve gone Bullistic!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
***UPDATE*** ★ Howard Hesseman, who played radio disc jockey ‘Johnny Fever’ on the sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati” and actor-turned-history teacher ‘Charlie Moore’ on “Head of the Class,” has died at 81. Hesseman, who actually was a radio DJ in the ’60s, earned 2 Emmy nominations for playing Johnny Fever on CBS’ WKRP in Cincinnati, which ran from 1978-1982. The role made Hesseman a counterculture icon at a time when few hippie characters made it onto network television. Hessman’s manager said he died in LA on Saturday due to complications from colon surgery.

★ Another BIG name may be joining the “Fast & Furious” in time for the next movie. A source has confirmed that Jason Momoa is in negotiations for a role in the next installment of the high-octane film franchise. He’s being eyed to play one of the villains in the upcoming “Fast & Furious 10”. News of his potential casting comes 6 months after Dwayne Johnson—who has appeared in 4 of the franchise’s movies, as well as the spin-off “Hobbs & Shaw”—confirmed he had no plans to return to the series amid his public feud with Vin Diesel. F&F 10 is currently scheduled for release in May, 2023.

★ Cher recorded an all-new version of “The Golden Girls Theme” for NBC’s Betty White Tribute, which airs tonight. ‘Thank You For Being a Friend’ was originally written and recorded in 1978 by Andrew Gold, and later covered by Cynthia Fee. That was the version used on the Emmy-winning series which ran from 1985-92. “Celebrating Betty White: America’s Golden Girl” The star-studded event will include tributes from President Joe Biden, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Goldie Hawn, Jay Leno, and many more.

★ “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner has lined up his next project. The Oscar-winner will be getting back in the director’s chair for the first time since 2003’s “Open Range” for his latest passion project, “Horizon”. Costner has built much of his career on westerns, and Horizon will continue with that tradition, covering a “15-year span of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.” After making a name for himself directing the awards-sweeping “Dances with Wolves”, Costner hopes to carry on in that storytelling tradition.

★ Someone has paid $71,500 for a 1976 AMC Pacer. But it’s not just ANY Pacer. It’s the very one from 1992’s “Wayne’s World.” Despite its distinctive design, the Pacer is often derided as a poor American attempt at a compact hatchback made during the height of the “Malaise Era”, but clearly its movie connections were enough to rocket the bidding into Corvette territory. You probably remember its scene-stealing appearance in the movie as rock music-loving buds Wayne and Garth and their friends perform a rousing singalong of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ as they drive through their hometown of Aurora, Illinois.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Kanye West – his new album – a sequel to last year’s “Donda” is ready to go. “Donda 2” will drop on Feb. 22, 2022. He made the announcement with a picture of his Chicago childhood home on fire, along with the news that Future will executive-produce. The 2/22/22 release date seems appropriate for the first sequel album he’s made in his career.
• Beyoncé — has revealed the capsule Ivy Park collection for Valentine’s Day. She’ll be dropping “Ivy Heart”, her sixth collaboration with Adidas, on Feb. 9 online and in stores Feb. 10. The line of accessories, shoes and clothes, including a latex baseball cap, a heart-lip bag and a latex parka, ranges in price from $30-$300.
• Kid Rock – In a Facebook video, he said he won’t be playing venues with COVID vaccine and mask mandates on his upcoming “Bad Reputation” tour, which starts in April. Quote: “If you think I’m going to sit out there and sing, ‘Don’t Tell Me How to Live’ and ‘We the People,’ while people are holding up their vaccine cards and wearing masks — that ain’t happening” (expletives deleted).
• The Beatles – Their iconic rooftop show is now available on streaming platforms. The legendary gig, staged on top of Apple Corps’ headquarters in London in 1969, was the band’s final public performance. “The Beatles: Get Back – The Rooftop Performance” was released to Spotify, Apple Music and other major streaming platforms on Friday.
• Joni Mitchell — is following her old friend and contemporary Neil Young’s lead and pulling her music from Spotify due to its support for controversial podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience”. Mitchell wrote: “Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.” Former Young guitarist and current E Street Band member Nils Lofgren has also announced he will cut ties with Spotify.
• James Blunt – has jokingly threatened to “release new music” if Spotify doesn’t remove Joe Rogan’s podcast. Blunt, who is known for his sense of humor on Twitter, joined in the feud between Neil Young and the music streaming service over the platform’s hosting of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
• Jamey Johnson and Randy Houser – The longtime friends have announced a reboot of last year’s sold-out “Country Cadillac Tour”. Their “special acoustic performances” will begin in Green Bay WI on March 24 and run through April 16 in Cedar Rapids, IA, with more dates to be added. Both will appear on stage together, singing, sharing stories and telling a few jokes, with no formal setlist.
• Eric Church – will be the latest in a growing line of country singers with bars on Lower Broadway in Nashville. He and his partners bought the Cotton Eyed Joe’s building and are converting it into a 6-story bar, barbecue restaurant and seated venue called Chief’s. “Chief” is not only Church’s nickname, but the title of his 2011 album.
• Randy Travis — A new documentary detailing his life will premiere on the Circle Network on Feb. 10, and the trailer is out now. “More Life” centers around an intimate performance Travis gave in 2012 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his debut album. It turned out to be the last time he would sing those songs, as he suffered a life-altering stroke the next year. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ym5wcpfe

SHOOTING THE BULL

FOOD STUFF:
❑ McDonald’s is taking a page out of its fans’ playbooks, adding 4 “hacked” menu items, for a limited time. Beginning today, customers (in the US) can order, by name, some unique pairings that were concocted by fans, but they will have to assemble the colossal creations themselves: The Hash Brown McMuffin (a Sausage McMuffin with Egg and a Hash Brown); a Crunchy Double (6-piece Chicken McNuggets combined with BBQ Sauce and a Double Cheeseburger); a Surf + Turf (Filet-O-Fish plus a Double Cheeseburger); and a Land, Air & Sea (a Big Mac, McChicken and Filet-O-Fish). The company is coupling the campaign with special digital deals. (Is this when customers will finally realize that the Big Mac, McChicken and Filet-O-Fish are all the same thing, with different sauces?)
❑ It’s officially Girl Scout cookie season, and if you’re a fan (and who isn’t?), you’ve really got something to look forward to this year. The newest Girl Scout Cookie just dropped, and they’re called “Adventurefuls”. They’re described as an “indulgent brownie-inspired cookie with caramel-flavored crème and a hint of sea salt.” According to one lucky so-and-so who got his hands on an advance box, “The chocolate itself is reminiscent of any other chocolate-flavored Girl Scout Cookie, but the addition of the caramel crème and that subtle (but perfect) hint of salt make these one of the best Girl Scout Cookies I’ve ever tasted.” And even better, for 2022 Girl Scouts has partnered with DoorDash to launch “on-demand Girl Scout Cookie delivery”. (Just one more reason to “support the troops”!)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ Kansas City Chiefs’ fans have taken a page from the Bills Mafia playbook after their dramatic NFL playoff win over Buffalo. As of late last week, more than 15,500 Chiefs fans had combined to donate more than $304,000 to the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital to show respect to Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Allen had a terrific game, giving his team the lead with just 13 seconds remaining, but the Chiefs sent the game into overtime, and Allen didn’t get to touch the ball in overtime because the Chiefs won the coin toss, and scored. The donations from Chiefs fans are reminiscent of 2018, when Bills fans donated $442,000 to the Andy and Jordan Dalton Foundation after the Bengals QB threw a last-minute touchdown to defeat Baltimore and end the Bills’ 17-year playoff drought. And in 2021, Bills fans donated $553,000 to Lamar Jackson’s favorite charity after the Ravens QB was concussed in the Bills’ divisional round playoff victory. (And you thought the best football news lately is that Brady is retiring?)
➢ Allan Baltz and his mullet are making a difference. The 11-year-old, who was in foster care in Jonesboro AR before being adopted in 2015, has the “biggest heart”, according to his Mom. At the start of the pandemic, his family had fun trying out crazy hairstyles, with Allan embracing the mullet. A friend told them about the USA Mullet Championship, and when Allan learned of the $2,500 prize, he decided to win it and give the money to kids in foster care. Well, Allan won the kid’s division in a landslide, and split the prize between two Arkansas nonprofits: Together We Foster and Project Zero. He told a reporter he remembers what it was like to be in foster care, and he’s “just really hoping they get a family.” (And the only thing I gave away when I had a mullet was my dignity!)

MORNING HABITS DOCTORS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS WISH YOU WOULD DO:

⇒ Write something down for which you’re grateful:  It could be something as simple as a good night’s rest. Practicing gratitude can enhance your mood, promote positive feelings, and improve your sense of well-being.” (Yes, even on a Monday!)
⇒ Drink water:  We tend to become dehydrated while sleeping. And we tend to forget to drink water throughout the day. Water can help curb your appetite and decrease the number of calories you consume throughout the day.
⇒ Meditate:  A quick 10-minute meditation sets the tone for positivity, less stress, and wellness. This can help with anxiety, depression, and even blood pressure.
⇒ Make your bed:  Those who do, are happier and more productive. The slight sense of pride will make you want to accomplish more tasks as the day goes on.
⇒ Get some natural light:  Sunlight can improve mood, and getting natural light in the morning is an easy way to get a healthy head start on the day. Even better, go for a walk in nature. (Oh…I thought you meant the beer…)
⇒ Exercise:  Even if it’s not a full workout, do at least a minute of movement, like stretching, body weight activity or a burst of cardio. It’s a mood enhancer, and a great way to stay happy and healthy.
⇒ Do something you enjoy:  Listen to music, or a podcast while getting ready. Or find a few minutes to read. It’s great for your mental health. (If I was going to do something I enjoy, I’d still be sleeping!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A YouTuber has entered the Guinness Book of World Records after creating the world’s first retractable “lightsaber”. Alex Burkan, who runs the YouTube channel Alex Lab, created a device that looks much like the lightsabers of “Star Wars” fame. It can produce a 1-meter (3.3-foot) long plasma blade when initiated. And it’s far from just a fancy torch, the 2,800°C (5,072°F) blade can cut through steel. Next on Alex’s agenda? He’s designing an ‘Iron Man’ suit. LINK: https://youtu.be/RSSAhmmiZjM

• “Backwards Day”, a day to relieve Winter blahs by doing everything backwards, ie: calling people by their last name, eating meals in reverse, (***signing off your show at the beginning***), etc.  (Not to be confused with “Opposite Day”, which we celebrated last week. Actually…yes! It is very much to be confused with Opposite Day!)
• “Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day”, an annual event on the last Monday of January, celebrating the padding we all like to pop. (Would working in a bubble wrap factory be the most distracting job ever?)

• “Brandy Alexander Day”, saluting the classic dessert drink that combines brandy with dark crème de cacao in a silky blend often likened to an alcoholic milkshake.
• “Scotch Tape Day”, on this day, the 3M Company (then going by the name of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing) revealed Scotch Tape. Consisting of clear cellophane tape with a pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side, it would become a household and office necessity.
