There’s No BS Like Show BS …

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

★ Netflix will celebrate the one-year anniversary of its hit documentary series “The Tiger King” with the TikTok musical “The Tiger Queens: The Tiger King Musical LIVE,” making its debut this Sunday. Casting was revealed in a poster for the musical, showing the “Tiger Queens” slated to star — “Ru Paul’s Drag Race” alums Kim Chi as “Carole Baskin”, Heidi N. Closet as “The Tiger” and Willam as “Joe Exotic”.

★ “Mrs. Doubtfire” director Chris Columbus has squelched recently resurfaced rumors that the risqué ad-libs of its star Robin Williams resulted in an NC-17 version of the film, but he did confirm that an R-rated cut does exist. In an interview, Columbus said that in order to take advantage of Williams’ improvisational gifts, he struck a deal with him where he would do a few scripted takes, “And then he would say, ‘Then let me play.’” And they would usually film 15-22 takes. The director says “Because of Williams’ often off-color riffs, the result was, yes, a number of NSFW takes.”

★ He’s already an Oscar-winning actor and a best-selling author, and now Matthew McConaughey might be adding politician to his list of credentials. He’s speaking out on speculation that he plans to run for Governor of Texas soon. McConaughey admitted that running for the position of Governor in his home state is “something I’m giving consideration. Absolutely.” McConaughey calls running for office “an honorable thing to even be able to consider.” (Especially when you remember that he was once arrested naked and playing bongos!)

★ Alex Winter, who directed the documentary “Zappa” and recently reprised his role in the “Bill & Ted” franchise, has set his next project: a doc about the history of YouTube and the video platform’s impact on society. “Mass Effect: The Story of YouTube” explores the humble beginnings of YouTube in the attic of a pizzeria to its explosion on the world stage. The platform brought in $5 billion in revenue in the third quarter of 2020 alone, with more than 30 million music and premium paid subscribers.

• Katy Perry — is reportedly headed for Vegas. Billboard says she’ll take up residency at the new Resorts World casino, which is set to open this summer, featuring a 5,000-seater venue. Her residency is expected to begin towards the end of this year, and run into 2022.
• Meghan Trainor – has scored a huge deal to develop and star in her own sitcom – and more! Her deal with NBC also includes potential projects with Bravo, E!, Oxygen, and NBCUniversal’s new streaming site Peacock. NBCUniversal Chairman Susan Rovner calls her “a phenomenally talented performer” and “a vibrant and hilarious ray of light”.
• Lana Del Rey – announced that she will release the new album “Rock Candy Sweet” June 1. She made the announcement just one day after her “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” album dropped.
• John Mayer – is eager for fans to hear his new music. A week after his thrilling duet with Maren Morris at the Grammys, he teased his forthcoming 8th album, captioning a TikTok video with the words: “It’s probably time” with the hashtag “newmusic.” No other details so far.
• Queen — have launched the first episode of their new YouTube series “Queen – The Greatest”, a weekly series celebrating 50 of the band’s greatest moments. The first episode goes behind the band’s first hit, 1973’s ‘Keep Yourself Alive’. All episodes will be available on Queen’s YouTube channel.
LINK: https://youtu.be/avI0iq-fRHQ
• Twisted Sister — The surviving members of the group’s classic lineup got together virtually on Saturday for a special episode of bassist Mark Mendoza’s Internet TV show “22 Now”. The program was a tribute to the band’s late drummer A.J. Pero, who died exactly 6 years earlier at 55. They called it quits in 2016.
• Carly Pearce – says she wants to be part of a new “Trio”, the collaborative project that featured Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. Pearce says she has been tossing around the idea of teaming up with Maren Morris and Kelsea Ballerini, for a new rendition of the iconic 1987 “Trio” album.
• Dierks Bentley – He and Dan + Shay singer Shay Mooney are 2 of the big names who have donated to a GoFundMe supporting Nashville singer-songwriter Travis Meadows after a devastating illness that threatened both his voice and his life. Meadows’ songs include Bentley’s ‘Riser’, Eric Church’s ‘Knives of New Orleans’, Kenny Chesney’s ‘Better Boat’) and Jake Owen’s ‘What We Ain’t Got’.
• LeAnn Rimes — made a touching cameo on her husband Eddie Cibrian’s new Netflix drama “Country Comfort”, playing his late TV wife’s favorite singer…herself! Cibrian plays widowed single father raising five kids with the help of a nanny, played by Katharine McPhee. Rimes’ episode debuted last week.

SHOOTING THE BULL

SCREENING PROCESS:
What would it take to get you to put your phone down for 24 hours? How about $2,400? It could happen. Reviews.org, a company that tests home services and products, is holding what they call a 24-hour digital detox challenge. They’ll pay their chosen challengers $2,400 to survive a whole day with NO screentime. If you think you’ve got what it takes, Reviews.org suggests you ask yourself these questions:
• Have you always wanted to win reality competitions like American Ninja Warrior, but you’ve been too busy trying to beat Mario Kart and Mortal Kombat instead?”
• “Do you know a little too much about your old acquaintances from social media?”
Those selected will not only have to swear off their phones for the day, but television, gaming, computers, smart watches and smart home devices too. (The company says microwaves are okay.) Challengers will receive a safe to store their electronics in for the 24 hours, along with a $200 Amazon gift card to put together a tech-free “survival kit.” They suggest using that for things like: a typewriter to replace computers, writing paper to replace texts, and paints and brushes to replace the fine art of the selfie.
Those interested should go to (you guessed it)  https://www.reviews.org
(…and maybe a 24-hour sleeping pill!)
(The worst part would be not updating your status while you’re doing it!)
(I could do it, but it might be at the risk of my relationships. I might actually hear what my kids are saying about me…)

’SNOT YOUR USUAL VACCINE:
Great news for those of us who are a bit needle-phobic, but still want to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are developing an inhalable COVID-19 vaccine that could be even more effective than injectable ones. And even better, they believe their research also opens the door for preventing and treating cancer and other diseases. The MIT crew hope that, like other vaccines administered to the throat, their development will create an immune system response as soon as the infection is inhaled. Research shows that an inhalable vaccine is 25 times more effective than one that is injected. In addition to using the technology against cancer in the future, it could prove effective against HIV and influenza too.
(I love this! Because it’s a lot more manly to sneeze than it is to faint!)
(The problem is that you have to take your mask off to get it!)

NEWLY DEVISED DEVICES:
➢ A Toronto man may have come up with the solution to “porch pirates” stealing packages from front doors. Eric Martin has invented a piece of patio furniture that also works as a safe for parcel deliveries. He says the “Boxr bench” is a multifunctional bench with secure storage, that helps homeowners to receive deliveries without compromising curb appeal. When an online shopper places an order, they give the company an access code, which the courier uses to open the safe and leave the parcel. (Great idea. But I’ve ordered 3 of them, and they all disappeared before I got home…)
➢ Wouldn’t it be nice if your dog could text you to let you know when he has to go out? Now, he (or she) can, with the BarkingMat! Place the BarkingMat by the door, and as soon as Buddy steps on it, you’ll receive a text notification. Yup, it’s just like your dog is texting you from the other room, letting you know that he has some business to take care of. And if you don’t make it to the door in time, the $70 BarkingMat doubles as a pee pad, just in case. (And that’s when YOU would text the dog — the letters ‘W’, ‘T’ and ‘F’!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A brewery in Leeds, UK is offering a delivery deal that could, in theory, keep you and the family stocked up until it’s safe for us to socialize normally at the local pub again. But it’s not going to fit in your mailbox. For £199 (US$288) you can have a 7-foot long, 99-can monster pack dropped off at your door. Or maybe not. To get your hands on the “remarkable feat of can-gineering”, which was created by North Brewing Company to celebrate the opening of their new Leeds brewery, you must live in the city.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Chip & Dip Day”. While North Americans might pick ‘Sour Cream & Onion’ or ‘Salt & Vinegar’ chips, the top flavors for ‘crisps’ in the UK include ‘Roast Beef & Mustard’ and ‘Smoked Ham & Pickle’. The Swiss like ‘Paprika’, while Thais choose ‘Prawn’, and in Egypt ‘Kebab’ is popular. The best dip? ‘Hot Bean with Jalapenos’ … or is it?

• “Puppy Day”, the idea is to save 10,000 homeless puppies in a single day by encouraging adoptions at dog pounds and rescue centers. (If your local shelter is closed these days, you can certainly ‘window shop’ – online!)

• “Cuddly Kitten Day”, whether you are a cat person or dog person, today serves as a reminder to pamper your pet. Cuddle and snuggle with your beloved, furry friend. Shower him or her with extra love, a few extra treats or a brand-new toy. (How happy are most doggos these days, with the number of people who now “work from home”? And how mad are some cats?)

• “World Meteorological Day”, an annual UN observance to promote understanding of how weather, climate, and water affects us all. For one thing, it seems to be our favorite topic of conversation. What overused weather cliché should be dumped? (Mixed-bag? Dodged a bullet? White stuff? Snowmageddon?)

• “Melba Toast Day”, according to lore, the tiny thin, crispy toasts were first prepared for opera singer Dame Nellie Melba, and were named by the eminent hotel magnate Cesar Ritz. Talk about a pedigree!

• “American Diabetes Association Alert Day”, a one-day wake-up call asking the public to take the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

• “National Agriculture Day” (in the US), every year, producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies and countless others join together to recognize the contributions of agriculture (celebrated in Canada on Feb. 23).
