Can You Believe This Sheet?

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Tyler Perry was in the giving mood on the weekend, and it appears thousands of people were in the receiving mood. He promised to give out food and gift cards to the first 5,000 families to pull up to his “Tyler Perry Studios” in Atlanta. Cars started lining up on Saturday afternoon for the Sunday giveaway, which was called “TPSGiving”. The charitable deed is nothing new on Tyler’s part, especially as the pandemic has ravaged much of the country. He’s done everything from very generously tipping a local restaurant staff – to the tune of more than 20K — and also picked up the tabs of grocery shoppers in NOLA and Atlanta earlier this year.

★ A collection of Alan Rickman’s personal diaries will be published together as a book. The actor known for the “Harry Potter” films and “Die Hard” wrote 27 volumes of diaries that span 25 years and date back to the early ’90s. “The Diaries of Alan Rickman” will be edited into one book and will be published in the U.S. and the U.K. in the fall of 2022.

★ Michael J. Fox appears on the latest edition of “Sunday Today”, and opened up about the emotional moment when he told his wife Tracy Pollan that he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Speaking of that moment 30 years ago, Fox said: “We didn’t know what to expect. One of the things I’ll always love Tracy for is that at that moment, she didn’t blink. She’s there in the front lines with me every single day…And the other thing Tracy does is, if there’s something funny, let’s get to the funny. We’ll deal with the tragic later.”

★ It turns out Donald Trump isn’t the only one who doesn’t know how to concede. People’s 2016 Sexiest Man Alive, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is also jokingly refusing to “concede” to this year’s winner Michael B. Jordan. Johnson, who also made the 2020 list, wrote on Instagram:  “Congrats to my brother @michaelbjordan on the new sexy crown. I concede nothing.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Nicki Minaj – is the subject of a new docu-series. The as-yet untitled show “will explore Nicki’s brilliantly creative mind and tell the story of her personal and professional journey” in 6 30-minute episodes on HBO Max. No launch date has been announced.
• Harry Styles – has become the first male to top Lyst’s “Power Dressers” list. The global fashion search platform lauded him as the ultimate power dresser this year, with searches for yellow bucket hats spiking by 92% after he wore one in his video ‘Golden’. Beyonce came in second, with RM from BTS third.
• Elton John — is ready to patch things up with Rod Stewart. The two had a falling out in 2018, but in a new interview, John said: “We’ve had this rivalry for a long time and it’s been very, very funny, and I love him dearly, and if I saw him in the street, I’d give him the biggest hug. There’s no point in carrying on vendettas in this world. Life’s too short.”
• Kylie Minogue – says it would be “amazing” to record a duet with Madonna. When asked about who else she’d like to collaborate with, she shared: “I’d love to collaborate with more women…You could say any of the top girls right now: Dua (Lipa) is definitely having a great time. Lady Gaga. I love Miley [Cyrus]. I admire so many of these women.
• The Glorious Sons – are among the artists participating in “Canada In Unison Holiday Special: In Concert” on Dec. 17. The virtual gig will benefit the Unison Benevolent Fund assistance program for the Canadian music industry, and will also feature Iskwe + Tom Wilson, Jim Cuddy, July Talk, Matthew Good, members of Mother Mother, Neon Dreams, Ruth B., Sam Roberts Band, Sarah Harmer, Scott Helman, Tim Hicks, and Tom Jackson.
• Weezer — Toto guitarist Steve Lukather says Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo should be more “thankful” for the success of their cover of ‘Africa’. In 2018, a fan started an online campaign to have Weezer perform the song. The result was Weezer’s biggest hit since 2005, but Lukather says when he tried to reach out to Cuomo, “The cat refused to talk to me!”
• Rush — A drum set once owned by late drummer Neil Peart, and used both onstage and in the studio between 1974-77, is headed to auction. It’s expected to bring $80,000-$120,000 as part of Bonhams’ online music memorabilia sale, which wraps up on Dec. 9.
• Ringo Starr – His grandson, Sonny Starkey, and Liam Gallagher’s son, Gene Gallagher, both entered ‘not guilty’ pleas at a London court last week. They face charges of assault stemming from a brawl at a London grocery store last year, where they are accused of fighting staff after a person they were with allegedly attempted to steal beer.
• Carrie Underwood – received some negative feedback after sharing that the video for ‘Hallelujah’, her holiday collaboration with John Legend, has been released. Many commenters took exception to Legend’s political views. He was vocal with his support for president-elect Joe Biden.
• RaeLynn – Tomorrow, she is releasing “Merry Christmas”, a festive two-pack of holiday songs. It will feature the original song ‘Jingle Bell Drunk’, and her take on ‘Silent Night’. She’ll also make her film debut this week, starring in Hallmark Channel’s “A Nashville Christmas Carol”, which premieres this Saturday.
• Morgan Wallen — Although the release of “Dangerous – The Double Album” isn’t until Jan. 8, he has shared three new songs: ‘Somebody’s Problem’, ‘Still Goin’ Down’, and ‘Livin’ the Dream’. His upcoming double album will feature 30 songs, with an additional two available on a Target edition.

TROUBLE BREWING:
I hope that you’ve already had your morning coffee before you hear this. And for your sake, I hope it was from a mug. Researchers in India say drinking coffee and other hot beverages from paper cups can release tens of thousands of potentially harmful plastic particles into your drink. They found that in the approximately 15 minutes it takes for coffee or tea to be consumed, the microplastic layer in the cup degrades, and can release 25,000 micron-sized particles into the hot beverage. Researchers say these nearly-invisible microplastics are becoming a real threat to human health. Earlier this year, microplastics were discovered inside human organs for the first time. It is feared this contamination could lead to cancer or infertility. Researchers also note microplastic contamination can cause inflammation in animals.
(I think we have GROUNDS for a lawsuit here…)
(15 minutes? I know people who can make a cup of coffee last all morning!)
(Do you want to tell Greta Thunberg about this, or do I have to?)

DOWN WITH FLUSHING:
A Spanish company has invented a self-cleaning toilet that could make flushing obsolete. Kekatron Desarrollo SL has released a video showcasing the new loo’s capabilities. In the video, it is loaded with a mountain of imitation, uh, refuse and toilet paper. Instead of swirling it away as a normal toilet does, this unit retracts the bowl into a dishwasher-like device that automatically cleans, dries and disinfects it with ozone gas after each use. Afterward, the toilet springs back into place, looking no worse for wear. And best of all, the cleaning process only requires 2 liters of water – about a third of what an average toilet uses per flush.

SIX WEEKS, SEVEN POUNDS:
2020 has been a year many people won’t forget, for all the wrong reasons. And some people are so ready to move into 2021, they’re “writing off the end of the year” and plan to put their diets and exercise routines into quarantine until the new year. To be exact, 56% of 2,000 Americans surveyed said they plan to use the Thanksgiving and Christmas season as an excuse to postpone any positive health changes, and start fresh in January. This is up significantly from previous years. Only 41% used the holidays as an excuse to indulge themselves in 2019, a jump of 15%. And what effect will all of this reckless holiday indulgence have on our waistlines? The average respondent expects to gain seven pounds over the festive season.
(Rookies…)
(I just hope I’m not invited to any holiday gatherings that require wearing anything more formal than jammy pants…)
(The problem is that I say the exact same thing every Christmas. And then in January, I don’t change anything…)

FOOL FOR THE CITY:
Another way in which COVID-19 has affected our daily lives is its effect on prices. The Economist Intelligence Unit, which ranks and compares the price of everyday items in major cities, says that Hong Kong, Paris and Zurich have become the world’s most expensive cities in which to live since the last survey near the start of the pandemic in March. The EIU notes that prices for electronics have increased globally in that time, while clothing prices have fallen. Staple food items largely remained the same price, while personal care products, tobacco and alcohol have all risen. Here are the world’s most expensive cities in which to live:
1. (tie) Paris, France
1. (tie) Hong Kong
1 (tie) Zurich, Switzerland
4. Singapore
5. (tie) Osaka, Japan
5. (tie) Tel Aviv, Israel
7. Geneva, Switzerland
8. New York City, USA
9. Copenhagen, Denmark
10. Los Angeles, USA

DID YOU KNOW?
Over-the-counter mouthwash can eradicate coronavirus within 30 seconds, according to a study. The preliminary result shows that mouthwash reduces levels of COVID-19 in a patient’s saliva. If the Cardiff University results are reflected in a clinical trial, medical professionals say mouthwash “could become an important addition to people’s routine, together with hand washing, physical distancing and wearing masks, both now and in the future.” (And here’s me, thinking for 8 months that I don’t NEED mouthwash, because I’m wearing a mask…!)

TODAY’S SLICE OF BS:
➠ The 48th AMA’s were held on Sunday. (It was music’s night to shine. Other than the Grammy Awards. And the Billboard Awards. And the Video Music Awards. And the Country Music Awards.  And the Soul Train Awards. . . And the . . . shall I continue?)
➠ The 48th American Music Awards were held on Sunday. Taylor Swift was nominated as Best Artist for the third straight year. (Which makes this award-show the only relationship she’s had that’s lasted more than two weeks…)
➠ It’s American Thanksgiving on Thursday. (I plan to spend it the same way I spend every other day…Jamming food into my face, guzzling whiskey, and ignoring my in-laws…)
➠ Almost 80% of Americans say they prefer eating at home over going to a restaurant on Thanksgiving Day. (Mostly because there’d be fewer eyewitnesses at home when they put an extended family member in a chokehold…)
➠ It’s Thanksgiving on Thursday. A day of reflection, and to give thanks for our blessings. (I’m thanking the Pilgrims for choosing Turkey and not Yak!)
➠ I just read a report that claims exercise helps the brain fight depression. (It’s easy…when you go to the gym and see just how stupid guys in ‘over-sized weight belts’ and ‘Affliction Tanks’ are, you feel better about yourself!)
