BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” is adding new housewife Crystal Kung Minkoff for Season 11. She is the first-ever Asian American cast member to join the franchise. Her addition to the show comes as Bravo has been increasing efforts to diversify casts across its programming. Kung Minkoff is an entrepreneur who founded Real Coco, a company specializing in coconut products. Her husband, Rob Minkoff, is a filmmaker, who directed the original “Lion King” in 1994, the “Stuart Little” films and Eddie Murphy’s “Haunted Mansion.”

★ During Friday’s episode of “The Wendy Williams Show”, she had issues getting through her “Hot Topics” segment, she called Adele “Hodel” and said “mealous” before correcting herself to “jealous.” What’s more, some fans felt that her breathing was labored. A staff member also had to help focus her. On Monday, she addressed the concerns on her show, saying: “I’m not perfect, but I do appreciate you putting in the effort to watch us. And I love entertaining you, you know? And it’s not easy…you’re a tough crowd.” In 2018, Williams revealed she is battling Graves’ Disease, a condition in which the immune system attacks the thyroid.

★ MGM Studios reportedly put a $600 million price tag on the new James Bond movie “No Time to Die” as they considered a streaming deal in place of a theatrical release. The movie, Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007, was supposed to be released in April, but was pushed back to November at the start of the pandemic. It has since been pushed back again – to April, 2021 – and reportedly, producers considered scrapping the theatrical release altogether, in favor of releasing it via a streaming service, but both Netflix and AppleTV+ balked at the price.

★ Timothee Chalamet’s Bob Dylan biopic has been stalled. He is slated to play the music icon in the tentatively titled “Going Electric”, but due to ongoing social distancing restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, it’ll be a while before shooting can begin. Cinematographer Phedon Papamichael said: “I don’t think it’s dead, but it’s a tough one to pull off in a COVID-era because it’s all in small clubs with lots of extras in period costumes, so you’ve got lots of hair and make-up.”

• Van Halen – Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang has denied rumors he’s replacing his late father in a new Van Halen line-up, which would also feature former members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony. Wolf wrote that it is a “lie attempting to capitalize on these awful times,” and “Anyone peddling this…is not only hurting the fans, but hurting me and my family.”

CORONAVIRUS SOLUTION:
As we continue to hope for an effective COVID-19 vaccine, a new study has found that there may be a way to slow the spread right there in your medicine cabinet. Researchers from Penn State College of Medicine say mouthwash and nasal rinses can deactivate coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The group tested various products including baby shampoo, a neti-pot, peroxide sore-mouth cleansers, and mouthwash, seeing how each would lower the viral load of coronavirus strains in a patient’s mouth. Mouthwash and gargling products were found to leave 99.9% of coronaviruses inactive after just 30 seconds. A 1% baby shampoo solution also deactivated more than 99.9% of human coronaviruses after 2 minutes of contact. Researchers say doctors, who regularly have contact with infected patients, often use baby shampoo to rinse out their sinuses.
(Does it smell like a baby in here, or is it just my nose?)
(Awesome. Now they’re going to be setting up a “nasal-rinse” station at the Walmart entrance!)
(Ah-ha! Conspiracy people: Now we know who started this whole thing: The makers of Listerine!)

WATER EVERYWHERE, BUT ENOUGH TO DRINK?
NASA promised they’d let us in on an “exciting new discovery” this week – and they have – I guess. They’ve announced that two new studies say there may be more water on the moon than previously believed, and it could be used as a resource during upcoming missions. The new research indicated that water is present on the sunlit surface of the moon, rather than just near the south pole, as was previously believed. It was also determined that there is probably frozen water in penny-sized patches that lie in permanent shadows, covering about 15,000 square miles. What that means for future lunar expeditions is that water will be more accessible for drinking – and for rocket fuel. The next manned lunar landing is scheduled for 2024.
(Awesome! Who wants to be the first to drink “water” that came from outer space?)
(They can use water for rocket fuel? And I’m still paying $60 to fill my gas tank?)
(I’m SURE I just heard a real estate agent say: “Where there’s water, there’s waterfront”!)

WORK LIKE A DOG:
Dream job alert! A London, UK law firm is looking for a dog walker to take care of a small pup – and they will pay the successful applicant up to £30,000 (US $39,000) a year. If you’re tempted to apply, here are the details: Law firm Joseph Hage Aaronson says the right candidate must be highly organized, good with pets, down to earth but professional, and have experience taking care of dogs. Besides walking, the job will also require the right person to run errands around London. The listing says they are looking for a “Private Assistant Dog Walker” who “is looking for a predominantly non-desk role”, to support one of the members of the senior leadership team. Besides getting to spend all day with a gorgeous dog, the job includes perks like a company pension, life insurance and private medical insurance. What kind of dog is it? They don’t say. Pity.
(Now, one question: Is this a job that I can do from home?)
(This is perfect for someone who dogs it all day at work anyway…)
(I thought for sure a law firm would have a pet SHARK!)

STEREOTYPICAL ZOOM CHARACTERS:
(The types of people you are likely to come face-to-face with on every call…)
☞ The Lurker:  Refuses to turn the camera on, even when everyone else on the call is visible. (Sounds like someone overslept the alarm and didn’t have time to get dressed!)
☞ The Pirate:  Constantly hijacks the meeting and steers it off-topic. (Not exclusive to Zoom meetings, but at least when you meet in person, there are donuts sometimes!)
☞ The Social Butterfly:  The chatty co-worker who wants in on every Zoom call and seems to be buddies with everyone. (I cannot imagine a world where I want to attend MORE Zoom calls…)
☞ The Narcissist:  Won’t stop staring at themselves on the screen. Not only shows up to the meeting dressed to the nines, but they keep adjusting their collar and hair and making faces at themselves. (And yet still, NO ONE looks good on Zoom…)
☞ The Joker:  Way too many jokes. One or two are fine, but this isn’t a stand-up act. (Especially if they aren’t funny…)
☞ The Baker:  Always popping something in or out of the oven during the meeting. And showing off what it is they are making. (Where were these skills before the pandemic – when treats could be shared at the office?)
☞ The Chaos Creator:  Serious household distractions going on. Maybe the kids are practising their music instruments. Maybe the dog is sick. Maybe there is another Zoom meeting going on in the same room. (Maybe this person is only at the meeting to have a break…)

DID YOU KNOW?
The most-Googled phobia of the year is “fear of other people”, according to researchers, who attribute the trend to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Anthropophobia” made up 22% of all fears searched in the US in 2020 — five times the number last year, according to Psych News Daily. However, New York’s most-searched fear was ‘philophobia’, the fear of falling in love or intimacy. California’s? ‘Nomophobia’. That’s the fear of not having a cellphone.

• “International Animation Day”, first proclaimed in 2002 to celebrate the art of animation. (So, if you know an animator, send a gif!)

• “Plush Animal Lover’s Day”, a day to celebrate your stuffed animal collection. ‘Plush’ sounds so much more humane, no?

• “Wild Foods Day”, a celebration of wild plants, fruits, and vegetables. Wild foods are free of preservatives and pesticides, and eating them is part of an eco-friendly lifestyle. Wild plants now often appear on menus in gourmet and raw food restaurants. (I wonder if tomorrow is “Roughage day…”)

• “National Chocolate Day”, yes, there was also a “Chocolate Day” in July and an “International Chocolate Day in September…don’t fight it. Here are five things to know about chocolate:
➢ White chocolate originates from the cocoa (cacao) plant, but it is not ‘chocolate.’
➢ Switzerland is one of the top countries for chocolate consumption. The Swiss consume about 10 kg (22 lbs) of chocolate, per person, per year.
➢ Most cocoa comes from West Africa.
➢ Allowing chocolate to melt in your mouth produces a similar reaction to that of a passionate kiss.
➢ Cocoa beans were used as currency by the Mayan and Aztec cultures. Perhaps this is where they saying “Money grows on trees” came from.

• “Statue of Liberty Dedication Day”, President Grover Cleveland dedicated it on this date in 1886. The 151-foot statue serves as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. A gift from the people of France, it sits on what is now known as Liberty Island in New York Harbor.

➠ Bill Gates is 65 today. (He’s having a nice party with cake, drinks and “Pin the Tail on the Donkey.” He borrowed the blindfold from his hairstylist…)
➠ Caitlyn Jenner is 71 today. (She’s known as the only person in the Jenner/Kardashian clan that actually accomplished something before becoming famous…)
➠ Lindsay Lohan joined the “Mean Girls” cast for a brief reunion. (Or, to put it another way, the “Mean Girls” cast were visited by the “ghost of train wreck future.”)
