BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ There’s another royal baby in the family! Princess Beatrice, granddaughter to Queen Elizabeth II and eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, welcomed her first child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, a baby girl, Buckingham Palace has announced. The newest member of the British royal family was born Saturday just before midnight local time at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London – a different location from other royal births. She weighs 6 pounds and 2 ounces, according to the palace. Princess Beatrice and Mozzi tied the knot in July 2020.

★ Nothing’s impossible when “Mission Impossible” is filming on location. A man was hiking through England’s Lake District when Tom Cruise parachuted out of a chopper and into the middle of the hiking path Friday, according to The Sun, which published wild footage of the stunt. The man said: “I certainly wasn’t expecting to bump into Tom Cruise during my hike, but he was really friendly and offered to have his picture taken. He looked like he was having a great time.” (Insert maniacal Tom Cruise laughter…)

★ Thirty-four years after its release, the L.A. teen vampire picture “The Lost Boys” is set for a remake. A new Warner Bros. version is in the works with Noah Jupe and Jaeden Martell in the lead roles. Jupe is best known for the “A Quiet Place” films and was previously seen in “Honey Boy” and “Ford v Ferrari”. Martell was in the “It” movies and “Knives Out”. The original Lost Boys, starring Kiefer Sutherland and the 2 Coreys – Feldman and Haim — was a relative hit in 1987, capturing the zeitgeist of the time with its goth look and soundtrack featuring INXS and Echo & the Bunnymen.

★ Justin Theroux’s adorable canine companion “Kuma” playfully took over her dad’s Instagram account to announce that she now has her own page on the social media app. Sharing a set of photographs of herself, Kuma wrote, amid a flurry of emojis, “INSTGRAM TAKEOWVER* iz KUMA HER3 TO AN0WNCE MY NEW INSTA AKOUWNT @KUMATHEROUX ! MY DAD has 1 MILLION FULLOWERZ NOW S0 SAYD I CAN HAVE MY OUN P8YGE TO SHOW PEEBLE MORE DOGS AND ABOUT MY LYF3 AMD PIBBULLS!!!” Theroux adopted the pit bull mix in 2018 after she was rescued from a devastating hurricane aftermath and brought to a high-kill shelter.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – She and her sports agent boyfriend Rich Paul are Instagram-official. She shared a carousel of snapshots from LA Laker Anthony Davis’s wedding, and sneakily included an image of her and Paul posing together in a photo booth in the last slide.
• Sam Hunt – While musicians often write songs about their experiences and people they know, that’s not him. Quote: “I’m really intimidated to write songs about people I’m really directly involved with. My songs tend to be an amalgamation of a lot of different experiences…you pick up things from movies and culture, so I just sort of soak all that in.”
• Mac Miller – His 2014 mixtape “Faces” is heading to streaming services for the first time. Fans will finally be able to listen to the collection on Spotify and Apple Music beginning October 15, as well as buy a copy on vinyl. The album, which explored Mac’s struggle with drug addiction, features 24 songs with guest appearances from Rick Ross, Thundercat, Vince Staples, Schoolboy Q and Earl Sweatshirt.
• Oasis – Liam Gallagher claims he fell out of a helicopter after performing at the Isle of Wight Festival.
The former Oasis frontman, who headlined on Friday night, shared a photo of his bruised and cut face on Twitter, and joked that the image could be used as the cover of his next solo album.
• The Rolling Stones – are changing their logo to pay tribute to Charlie Watts. They’re set to turn their famous tongue symbol from red to black in honor of the late drummer – who died last month. The altered design will appear on big screens during their upcoming shows, as well as on merchandise.
• Foo Fighters — Dave Grohl says their next album could be a “prog-rock record”. Although there is no new project currently in the works, he says there are some vague ideas being thrown around, and one that keeps cropping up is the idea of the band creating an “insane” prog rock-inspired album.
• Blake Shelton — Gwen Stefani says she is happy to ride her husband’s coattails to earn a taste of country success. She thanked him for helping her break into the genre with their 2 hit duets, ‘Nobody But You’ and ‘Happy Anywhere’.” She made the comments during an event celebrating his 27th and 28th #1 country hits.
• Trisha Yearwood – says one of her biggest hits was almost recorded by The Judds. She told Nick Hoffman that ‘Walkaway Joe’ “was one of those songs that the Judds actually had on hold”, but when they disbanded due to Naomi’s illness, “all of the songs the Judds had on hold went back into the pool.” The song, recorded by Yearwood, went to #2 in 1992.
• Reba McEntire — was one of 7 people rescued in Atoka, OK, from a hundred-year-old historic site’s second level as its stairs partially collapsed. The building was undergoing renovations when the incident happened. After an “old-fashioned ladder rescue” by police and fire workers, Reba and her team, which was scouting the location for a future project, were determined to be okay.

SHOOTING THE BULL

NEEDLES NOT NEEDED?
OK, you don’t want to get the jab. How about a bowl of vegetables? Scientists at the University of California are studying whether they can turn edible plants, such as lettuce and spinach, into mRNA vaccines people can grow themselves. The research project aims not only to show that mRNA vaccines can be integrated into plant cells, but also to demonstrate that plants can replicate enough mRNA to rival current injection methods. The technology used in some COVID-19 vaccines works by using mRNA to provide human cells with genetic instructions for making antibodies against the disease. One of the challenges, however, is they must be kept at cold temperatures during transport and storage. If the UCR research project is successful, not only could it make edible mRNA vaccines possible, but also create an mRNA vaccine able to be stored at room temperature.
(A needle or a bowl of vegetables? I know which one my 5-year-old would pick!)
(Actually, I guess you’d need to eat TWO salads…)
(I can’t wait for the time when you have to show your “salad passport” to get into a restaurant…)

OH, BOTHER:
If Winnie the Pooh was a big deal to you when you were a kid (and really, wasn’t he a big deal to EVERYONE?), now you can live the Winnie the Pooh life. Pooh illustrator Kim Raymond is offering the chance to stay overnight at a replica of the storied bear’s tree house. He is hosting two one-night stays at the “Bearbnb,” custom-built at the real site that inspired the fictional ‘Hundred Acre Wood’ in England, to celebrate the 95th anniversary of Pooh’s creation by A. A. Milne. The house consists of one room that looks like it is built into a tree, complete with the Mr. Sanders sign above the door, and “hunny pots” in the cupboard inside. Guests will be taken on a tour of the area in Ashdown Forest that was the inspiration for books’ setting, and the stay includes playing “poohsticks” on Poohsticks Bridge and “hunny-inspired meals,” according to the Airbnb listing. The house sleeps 4, and house rules permit “multiple naps” and encourage snacks of “a little something” at 11 a.m., the time Pooh famously took his refreshment. “Poohsticks” are mandatory and “strictly no heffalumps” are allowed. DOG “TREATS”:
Apparently, the average dog owner has to yell “What are you eating?!” nearly 40 times a year. A survey asked 2,000 owners to reflect on their dogs’ nutritional habits – and found the top non-treats their furry friends get into include socks (48%), garbage (47%), and children’s toys (44%) – with one respondent saying their dog even tried to chew on the toilet plunger. The OnePoll survey found the average pet owner has to remove something from their dog’s mouth about 3 times a month. The rest of the top-10 questionable doggie “treats” includes paper, people food, grass, leaves, rocks, poop, and dirt/soil.
(Having been a bachelor for a number of years, some of these are understandable. I’ll let you guess which ones!)
(Does it tell me something that my dog has eaten several of these, but still refuses to eat my cooking?)

HOW TO BEAT THE ‘AFTERNOON SLUMP’ AT WORK:
Because we’ve all been there…
✓ Drink some water: Dehydration makes us tired, and when at work, we often forget to hydrate while sitting or staring at screens all day. (Yet, oddly, when I’m at work, I always FEEL like drinking…)
✓ Turn up the lights or get outside: Research says that more intense light can improve feelings of alertness and vitality. Outdoor light is even more effective. (Great. Let’s all meet at the beach!)
✓ Take a power nap: Try taking a little time to rest so you can finish your day strong. But don’t make it longer than an hour, because it’ll cause problems sleeping at night. (It’ll also cause problems with the boss RIGHT NOW!)
✓ Talk with someone: Schedule conversations that can perk you up in the afternoon, and save solo focused work for the morning. (Gossip is also very effective at retaining that laser-like focus…)
✓ Have a fun, motivating snack: Brain foods like broccoli, grains, lentils and eggs can help boost concentration when you need it most.
✓ Make time for a nourishing activity: It could be listening to music, stretching, a small walk or short meditation. Find something that refreshes you.

DID YOU KNOW?
Scientists have come up with an injection that nips backache in the bud. It contains a cocktail of anti-aging drugs called senolytics that kill off “zombie cells.” The injection could protect people against chronic back conditions for decades. In experiments, mice had less disc degeneration by the time they grew old than peers given a placebo, and also had fewer ‘senescent’ cells that stop dividing and release chemicals that cause inflammation. Those cells have been nicknamed zombie cells because they are damaged, but refuse to die.

• “World Alzheimer’s Day”, an annual observance to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
