BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ (***UPDATED***) Sunday it was announced that Duane ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ Chapman had joined the search for Gabby Petito’s fiancé, Brian Laundrie. On Monday, it was revealed that Laundrie’s parents called the cops on Chapman after he showed up at their Florida home. The North Port Florida Police Department responded to a 911 call from Laundrie’s family on Saturday, reporting that Chapman was on their property. The reality TV star was seen knocking on the door of the family home. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Laundrie last week after Petito’s remains were discovered; a coroner has since ruled her death a homicide. Chapman, whose work as a bounty hunter found him TV fame, told reporters that he is “chasing several leads.” Laundrie has not been seen since Sept. 14.

★ Netflix has announced that Queen Elizabeth will take her customary year off, and return in “The Crown” in November 2022. The proclamation was part of Netflix’s Tudum jubilee, a global celebration of the streamer’s global commonwealth of film and TV titles. After sweeping the Emmy awards in its fourth season, “The Crown” will return with an all-new cast playing the British royal family, including Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth.

★ Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen’s 21-year-old son has found himself in hot water. On Friday night, Mingus Reedus was arrested for assaulting a woman in New York City. The woman said that he punched her in the face, and police say she obtained an injury below her left eye. She was taken to hospital and reported to be in stable condition. Mingus was charged with misdemeanor assault. He is expected to appear in court in the next few weeks to respond to the charges.

★ Adam Sandler will continue his successful partnership with Netflix with his next project, a sequel to 2019’s “Murder Mystery”. Sandler’s co-star Jennifer Aniston will also be returning. The first Murder Mystery was a comedic whodunnit about a New York cop (Sandler) and his wife (Aniston) who take a trip to Europe to spice up their stagnant marriage. But they get more than they bargain for when a chance meeting puts them at the top of the suspect list for the murder of a billionaire. “Murder Mystery 2”, also starring David Spade, will be released next year.

• Rihanna — While many people have praised her Savage x Fenty fashion show for its celebration of all kinds of bodies, some social media users are questioning why stars like Vanessa Hudgens and Emily Ratajkowski sported braids. Neither are Black women, and some feel the choice of hairstyle is cultural appropriation. The lingerie show dropped on Amazon on Friday.
• Britney Spears – The new doc “Controlling Britney Spears” claims her phone and internet use were monitored by her father. It features a former member of her security staff, who says he was asked to put “parental control” on her cell phone, so others could gain access to her texts, calls, and browser history.
• Eminem — is opening a restaurant called Mom’s Spaghetti. The name comes from the opening verse of 2002’s ‘Lose Yourself’. Mom’s Spaghetti is set to open its doors tomorrow in downtown Detroit, and according to an outgoing phone message, it will serve “spaghetti, meatballs, spaghetti with meatballs, or no meatballs, and the s’ghetti sandwich.”
• Nirvana – Their 1991 breakthrough album “Nevermind” is getting a 30th anniversary reissue. A total of 94 audio and video tracks, 70 previously unreleased, including 4 concert recordings –will be made available across configurations ranging from Super Deluxe Editions to standard single disc. It drops Nov. 12. List price? US $260 for the Super Deluxe Edition.
• Tom Petty — A documentary on him is coming to the big screen next month. “Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers” – focused on his legendary 1994 solo record – will be released to celebrate the late singer’s birthday as part of a one-night global celebration on Oct. 20.
• (***Caution – content***) Walker Hayes – His infectious hit ‘Fancy Like’ has gotten the remix treatment, featuring an appearance by pop star Kesha. She wrote on Twitter: “This song speaks to me on a very deep level.” She went on to describe herself as “a southern b—h who loves a Waffle House after a night at the dive bar n karaoke.”
• Brandi Carlile and Kacey Musgraves – are both booked as musical guests on “Saturday Night Live” next month. Musgraves will perform during SNL’s Oct. 2 Season 47 premiere, which will be hosted by Owen Wilson. Carlile’s turn comes Oct. 23, when Jason Sudeikis hosts.
• Sturgill Simpson – has cancelled his 5-show set this week at New York City’s Webster Hall, as well as his 3 shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, originally set for Nov. 18-20. On social media, he wrote: he is “extremely disappointed”. No reason was given, but recently had to cancel performances at the Outlaw Music Festival and Farm Aid 2021 due to losing his voice.

A NOVEL NOVEL CORONAVIRUS TREATMENT:
UK scientists say they are developing a “potentially significant” treatment for COVID-19 that would be administered to patients in the form of a nasal spray, and we can thank a llama. To develop the treatment, researchers injected a llama named Fifi with a small piece of coronavirus spike protein in order to make it produce the required antibodies. Research published in the journal Nature Communications reveals the treatment has the potential to prevent and treat COVID-19. And while vaccines are a valuable weapon against the disease, the scientists say that not everyone responds to vaccination, and immunity can wane, so this nasal spray medication could be very important. The approach could also be used to treat other airway viruses.
(After experiencing a nose-swab, I thought we could all agree that we should be trying to move away from anything honker-related when it comes to COVID-19!)

APPLE: NOT KEEPING THE DOCTOR AWAY:
Apple wants to use its iPhones and watches to detect depression among users. The tech giant hopes to gather user data that includes physical activity levels, sleep patterns, mobility, typing behavior, and other health information using new software designed to diagnose and screen for depression and cognitive decline. According to the company, it plans to use the data to refine algorithms that can detect the conditions reliably. The data may also include analysis of peoples’ facial expressions, how they speak, their walking and sleep habits, plus their vital signs, which would give researchers information about the device users’ cognitive health. An app could be produced to warn people they might be suffering from depression and should seek help. Apple originally planned to launch the feature this year, but announced this month that it will delay the detection technology.

MAKING AMERICA GRATE AGAIN:
Well, THIS is different from what we’ve always been told: Scientists are now saying that people who consume more dairy fat have a lower risk of heart disease. An international team of scientists studied the dairy fat consumption of 4,150 60-year-olds in Sweden — a country with one of the world’s highest levels of dairy production and consumption. Then, they followed them for 16 years to observe how many had heart attacks, strokes and other circulatory events, and how many of them died. They found that those with a high intake of dairy fats had the lowest risk of cardiovascular disease, as well as no increased risk of death from all causes. The scientists point out that it is important to remember that although dairy foods can be rich in saturated fat, they are also rich in many other nutrients and can be a part of a healthy diet.
