Our Sheet Don’t Stink!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jussie Smollett’s “Empire” screen time is being slashed in the wake of a growing sentiment that he staged his so-called “attack.”  Smollett was supposed to have 9 scenes and a big musical number in the second to the last episode of the show’s current fifth season — which is being shot now —  but five of his scenes have been cut.

★ The Netflix-Marvel partnership is officially over. Netflix has canceled its remaining two series from Marvel — “The Punisher” and “Jessica Jones” — though the third season of the Krysten Ritter-led drama will still air later this year. The decision to end its creative partnership with Marvel TV comes as Marvel Studios develops multiple TV series for Netflix competitor Disney+, starring characters from Marvel films including Loki, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

★ The Kardashian-Jenners are planning ahead and making sure their business empire includes the youngest members of the family. It’s been revealed that Kim, Khloe and Kylie are filing trademark applications for the names of their kids; Saint, North, Chicago, True Thompson and Stormi Webster. Kylie, has apparently also requested to trademark “Stormiworld”, inspired by baby daddy Travis Scott’s “Astroworld” album.
(Which, ironically, he stole from the Houston Astros…)

Lagerfeld died Tuesday morning after being rushed to the American Hospital of Paris Monday night. At the Disco — Singer Brendon Urie has a message for fans “Please don’t kiss me.” On their current tour, he moves through the crowd during ‘Death of a Bachelor’ – something now dubbed “the death walk.” The problem is that concert goers keep kissing him.  Their road manager tweeted: “I’m done with this crap of kissing Brendon during the ‘death walk.’ If I see it, you will be kicked out of the show right away. The end.”

• Shawn Mendes – Nothing gets between him and his Calvins. He’s following in the footsteps of Justin Bieber, the Kardashians, and Marky Mark by baring it all in the latest Calvin Klein underwear ad campaign. On the weekend, he released two teaser images on his Instagram account.
• Robert Plant – His new band Saving Grace will be playing the final date of a round of shows with Fairport Convention on Friday in St. Albans, UK.  He debuted the new group at a surprise show in January, intending to keep a low profile, but word has leaked out.
• Queen + Adam Lambert – will perform at the Oscars this Sunday.  The Academy announced the performance by tweeting: “Is this real life? Is this just fantasy?”, quoting the band’s song ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
• Red Hot Chili Peppers — After a power outage interrupted their set in Tasmania after the first song, Flea took it upon himself to keep the crowd entertained during the 15-minute delay, by among other things, performing handstands.  Fans took to Twitter to praise his efforts.
• Kacey Musgraves – has challenged fans to “Let the memes begin” after sharing a perfect-moment screenshot on Twitter showing her face contorted in surprise after winning the all-genre Album of the Year Grammy.  Fans have already responded with captions such as “When my friends tell me a rumor and I have to act like I didn’t start it”.
• Dierks Bentley – has announced that his Seven Peaks Festival will return for a second year to Buena Vista, Co. on Labor Day weekend.  The inaugural event was held in Aug. 2018 with performances by Clint Black, Sawyer Brown, Terri Clark, David Lee Murphy and Hot Country Knights (Bentley’s alter-ego throwback band).  Details on lineup and tickets for this year’s event will be announced in the coming weeks.

IT’S TOASTY IN HERE:
They aren’t quite calling it a “silent killer”, but it could be that your seemingly harmless household toaster harbors more danger than you suspect.  A new study from the University of Texas warns that toasters, candles, and other household “smoke makers” are exposing us to more air pollution than standing in a busy intersection does.  The most dangerous of these items are toasters, which, according to the study, send toxic particles into the air immediately after they’re turned on.  Burnt toast is particularly harmful. Researchers suggest that if you don’t think that you could manage without using a toaster, try only heating bread to a light crisp. Other culprits include household cleaners, air purifiers and sprays.
(What did they use to pollute the air BEFORE sliced bread?)
(When I’m cooking, the smell coming from the toaster is the LEAST of my worries!)
(No mention of AXE body spray?  The researchers must not have pre-teen boys!)

THE LOWDOWN ON HER ROYAL HIGHNESS:
Have you ever wondered why Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex were not given the title of “Princess”?  In short, It’s all Camilla’s fault.  At least that is the theory put forward by the royal writers Victoria Arbiter and Kate Williams.  According to them, despite Camilla being legally titled the “Princess of Wales”, she decided to use the title of “Duchess of Cornwall” after marrying Prince Charles, out of respect for Diana, who died eight years before the wedding and was known during her marriage as the “Princess of Wales”. The decision to not call Camilla “Princess of Wales” may also have been made to avoid another public-relations nightmare at the hands of Diana’s fans, who became enraged at the royal family after her death in 1997.  Either way, referring to Camilla as a duchess rather than a princess created a precedent, and the newer royal wives of the family cannot have more important titles than the top man’s wife, so they remain duchesses.
(And we royal-watchers remain Princessless!)
(Still, “Duchess” is a lot nicer than what Meghan’s family call her…!)

HEALTH MYTHS THAT TURNED OUT TO BE TRUE:
➠ An apple a day keeps the doctor away:  Researchers estimate that if every adult over 50 ate an apple a day, it would prevent or delay 8,500 deaths from heart attacks and strokes every year in the U.K. Scientists also found that eating apples could inhibit the development of breast cancer.
➠ Eating late will make you gain weight;  Late-night eaters tend to weigh more and have a higher BMI than those who eat earlier in the day, but it probably has to do with the choices people make.  Late-night eaters tend to binge-eat more frequently and consume more calories.
➠ Carrots are good for your eyes:  While they won’t improve your vision, they can help maintain it. Carrots contain beta carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A. Your body uses vitamin A to build proteins for eye cells.
➠ Spicy foods help you lose weight:  While an extra jalapeño won’t make the pounds magically melt off, a study suggests that the capsaicin in chili peppers can help with weight loss by encouraging thermogenesis, the production of heat in the body, and that can promote fat-burning.
➠ Heartburn during pregnancy results in a baby with a full head of hair:  A study found that women who suffered from heartburn did indeed give birth to babies with luxurious locks. And babies whose mothers didn’t experience heartburn had little or no hair. Researchers theorize that extra-high levels of estrogen and other pregnancy hormones may both encourage fetal hair growth, and relax the sphincter at the top of the esophagus, allowing acidic digestive fluids to back up and trigger heartburn symptoms.  (Gotta hand it to those “old wives…”)
➠ Going outside without your jacket will give you a cold:  While you need to be exposed to a germ to get sick, you may be more susceptible to that germ when you’re shivering. One study showed that immune cells in your nose and upper airway may not function as well in cooler temperatures. Plus, viruses can become more virulent in the cold.
➠ You can catch up on sleep on the weekend:  Recent research found that although those who slept for five hours or less nightly had a 65% higher chance of dying before those who got six or seven hours; those who sleep five hours a night on weekdays, but longer on weekends, live just as long as those who slept longer every night.
(If I wasn’t catching up on sleep on the weekend, I’d like to know where the heck I was until noon on Saturday…)

DID YOU KNOW?
A new study blames YouTube for the recent drastic rise in the number of “Flat Earthers.” Of 30 people polled at large gatherings of Flat Earthers, 29 said they had not considered the Earth to be flat two years ago, but changed their minds after watching videos promoting the theory on YouTube.
