Sheeters Always Prosper!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Scarlett Johansson has defended her decision to play a transgender man in new film “Rub & Tug”. Her casting in the role received instant backlash from a number of social media users, but in a statement, she dismissed any criticism, saying, “Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment.” Johansson’s response refers to other well-known actors who have taken on transgender roles.

★ The actor who voiced Jar Jar Binks in the “Star Wars” series says that he contemplated suicide after the severe backlash to his character by fans. Ahmed Best tweeted: “20 years next year I faced a media backlash that still affects my career today. This was the place I almost ended my life.” Best provided the voice and motion capture for Jar Jar Binks in the “Star Wars” prequel films “The Phantom Menace,” “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith.” Jar Jar is one of the worst-received characters in the franchise’s history.
(Not ‘one-of’…actually the WORST received!)
-PageSix
★ Ariel Winter has deleted her Twitter account. The “Modern Family” star says she has made the decision to ”delete all social media” and has already started the process of wiping her online pages. Winter’s decision comes a few months after she admitted she wants to take a break from the spotlight.
-ContactMusic
★ Yvette Nicole Brown, of the show “Community”, has been tapped by AMC to replace Chris Hardwick as moderator of the show’s panels at San Diego Comic-Con. The network dropped Hardwick from the schedule after allegations of sexual assault and emotional abuse surfaced last month. Hardwick, also the co-founder of geek site ‘Nerdist’, has denied the claims against him, but agreed to step aside from moderating the panels. Brown, who is a known “Walking Dead” superfan, has appeared on multiple episodes of “Talking Dead” and hosted the Walking Dead panel at New York Comic-Con in 2015.

★ “Game of Thrones'” director Alan Taylor is set to direct “The Sopranos” prequel movie. The feature is expected to depict beloved characters from the hit television series in some capacity, although the show’s biggest star, James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano, died from a heart attack in 2013 at the age of 51.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Drake – Some Spotify users are asking for refunds after his photo appeared on every playlist the platform had as part of the roll-out of his new “Scorpion” album. Many premium subscribers, who have paid for ad-free accounts, are demanding their money back after seeing Drake’s face on hundreds of playlists – even ones that didn’t actually feature any of his songs – arguing that the move amounted to advertising.
• Justin Timberlake – Not only did he drop the surprise single ‘SoulMate’ this week, he also has discussed the likelihood of collaborating with Drake again: “We’ve talked about it a lot. I don’t wanna say too much because I don’t wanna jinx it, but we’ve talked about it a lot.”
• Michael Jackson – His daughter Paris has been granted a temporary restraining order against a man she says has been stalking her. She claims that she and a bandmate were leaving her recording studio when a man she did not know appeared and said he’d waited for her the week before for 15 hours. She says the man refused to leave, said he was “stalking her,” mentioned a shotgun and said “by midnight it will all be over.”
• Aerosmith – Their #1 hit ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’ was inspired by Barbra Streisand. Songwriter Diane Warren says that she was watching a “20/20″ report where Babs was discussing her budding relationship with James Brolin, and said: “We’re just about to fall asleep…And he says, ‘I don’t want to fall asleep.’” When she asked why, Brolin said, “‘Cause then I’ll miss you.”
• Johnny Rotten – Accidentally inhaled a fan’s ashes as he tried to scatter them during a gig in the Somerset, England. Rotten (John Lydon) was asked to scatter Stuart Clark’s remains by the late fan’s sister during a gig with band Public Image Ltd. The punk icon obliged but left crowds in shock when the ashes ended up all over him.

• Miranda Lambert – Her song ‘The House That Built Me’ was one of only two country songs to make the Rolling Stone list of the “100 Greatest Songs of the Century—So Far”, coming in at #75. Eric Church’s ‘Springsteen’ is #68.
• Ben Haggard – He and his girlfriend, Jeyda Beyzade, are the parents of a newborn baby boy, but the delivery was touch and go after Beyzade experienced complications, including 35 hours of labor, a drug reaction and an emergency C-section. The couple welcomed Liam James on June 29. Ben Haggard is Merle’s son, and is also a country singer.
• Charlie Daniels – Raised $100,000 for a veterans support program he helped found at Middle Tennessee State University. Daniels held his inaugural ‘Veteran Impact Celebration at the Grove’ in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on June 28. The event featured live performances from student veterans and guest speakers.

THAT GUY ON SEINFELD WAS RIGHT:
Here’s a little something to keep in mind when you head to that pool party or barbecue this weekend: Beware the ‘double-dipper.’ Clemson University researchers decided to see just how gross it is when someone crosses the line of good taste and takes part in this dastardly act. First, they dipped a bitten chip into a glass of water. The water that had been contaminated by the bitten chip “contained 1,000 more bacteria per mL of water than a glass of water exposed to a whole bitten chip. If you are saying, “That’s fine. I wouldn’t dip a chip in water, scientists would like to point out at this time that dips such as salsa contain plenty of water. Next, they tested the dips. Salsa, cheese dip, and chocolate syrup all contained more bacteria after double-dipping. But the salsa got hit the worst, with “more than five times more bacteria compared to the other two sauces.” Why? Without viscosity, or as you might call it, ‘gloopiness’, more bits of dip are likely to fall back into the bowl…and along with them, “bacteria from the mouth of the double-dipper” Ew.
(On the other hand, if you double-dip first, it’s yours!)
(If you’re going to party where there’ll be kids…good luck!)
(Question: Is it double-dipping if you flip your chip or carrot over and use the unbitten part?)

IGNORANCE IS BLISS:
Every once in a while, you come across a know-it-all. Someone who is so absolutely sure of his or her opinions, that you start to believe that they must be right. Well, put the brakes on that, because science says that the more certain you are about something, the less informed you’re likely to be about it. Using newspaper articles, researchers asked a group of people with a strong sense of ‘belief superiority’ to rank their own knowledge about some politically contentious subjects. The participants were then asked how likely they would be to read each article to the end. You might not be too surprised to find out that the people with the strongest sense of belief superiority were also the least likely to read articles that didn’t jibe with their previously held beliefs. In other words, not only were they less informed about the things they felt the most strongly about, but they were also less likely to seek out and learn more about those things. Oh, and another thing: Participants with the bias against headlines they didn’t like were absolutely aware of that tendency in themselves.
(Think about THAT next time your blowhard friend posts a political article!)
(If you want to be seen, stand up, if you want to be heard, speak up…and if you want to be appreciated SHUT up!)
