BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Prince Harry made a surprise appearance in London yesterday. The Duke of Sussex attended the High Court for the first day of a legal case in which he and other prominent figures, including Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley, are suing the publisher of the Daily Mail, for illegal information gathering, including allegedly bugging their cars and homes, and recording their phone calls. Harry watched intently during the proceedings, sometimes taking notes. The 4-day hearing will conclude with a judge’s ruling on whether the case should go to trial.

★ The world of ‘John Wick’ is getting even bigger. Producer Erica Lee has revealed the TV prequel “The Continental” will premiere this September. The 3-part series is set in 1975 and centers on the assassin hotel from the “John Wick” movies. Colin Woodell will play a young ‘Winston Scott’. The series will follow Winston has he faces demons from his past, while making his way through the New York underground to take control of the hotel. Mel Gibson is also set to appear in the show, along with Katie McGrath, Ray McKinnon and Adam Shapiro. “John Wick: Chapter 4” premiered in theatres on Friday, earning a franchise best $137.5 million in its opening weekend.

★ Jeremy Renner is continuing his recovery journey. He shared a video of himself walking on an anti-gravity treadmill, nearly 3 months after he was crushed by a 14,000-pound snow plow on New Year’s Day. In the caption of his Instagram story, Renner wrote: “Now is the time for my body to rest and recover from my will.” As seen in the video of himself using the treadmill, he’s using his legs in a walking motion as the device accounts for 40% of his weight. ★ Sam Elliott enjoyed his time on the “Yellowstone” prequel “1883” so much, that he’d like to do a prequel to 1883. In a new interview, the 78-year-old said that he was so involved with his role that he was sorry to see it end – and he’s not the only one. Quote: “I think everybody was sad to see it over…I would have liked to have that wagon train go to Canada by then and just stay with it.” Because his character ‘Shea Brennan’ dies at the end of 1883, Elliott sees a way around that – a prequel. Quote: “Pick it up after the war…There’s plenty of stuff to do.”

★ Some of the biggest names in Hollywood are rushing to sell their multi-million-dollar houses in LA before a new “mansion tax” kicks in. In November, voters supported a measure which is intended to raise up to $1 billion from luxury house sales to fund affordable housing projects. Beginning this Saturday, the sellers of homes valued between $5-10 million will pay a 4% tax to the city, and those selling homes over $10 million will pay a 5.5% tax. Celebs who recently sold their properties include Mark Wahlberg, who sold for $55 million, and Jim Carrey, who listed his property last month for $29 million.

★ Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly set to star in a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s psychological thriller “Vertigo”. Paramount Pictures is planning to remake the 1958 classic, with the “Iron Man” star and his wife Susan to produce. The 57-year-old Avenger would play James Stewart’s original role, with “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight tapped to write a new screenplay. No word on who might star in the female role, originally played by Kim Novak.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – used the occasion of the final scheduled date of her Vegas residency to announce she’s coming back for more. She said from the stage at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace that “34 dates is not enough, so I’m coming back for a few weeks in June”. What’s more, she said: “I’m going to film it…to make sure anyone who wants to see this show can see it.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p8cyvhh
• Taylor Swift — brought out special guest Marcus Mumford during the second night of her “Eras Tour” stop in Las Vegas on Saturday. Despite telling fans during night one that “we don’t have guests at this show,” Swift invited the Mumford & Sons frontman for her debut live performance of ‘Cowboy Like Me’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/496877r3
• Foo Fighters – Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron is denying reports that he is joining Foo Fighters to play drums on their upcoming tour, replacing Taylor Hawkins, who died last year. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3hnm9h88
• Def Leppard – In a new interview, singer Joe Elliott admitted he “mouthed off” too much when he said that Bryan Adams’ 1991 album “Waking Up the Neighbours” sounded too much like his own band. Both acts worked with producer Mutt Lange at the time. Quote: “I got into trouble with this one. I thought it sounded a bit close to the bone. Bryan was a bit (peeved) with me – and…he should have been.”
• Led Zeppelin — Jason Bonham says he recently found a box of tapes left by late father, drummer John Bonham, that may contain previously unheard Zeppelin recordings. He hasn’t had a chance to listen to them yet. Jason Bonham, also a drummer, has played with Foreigner and Sammy Hagar.
• Brothers Osborne – Friday, they announced that they’ll be dropping 3 new songs on Friday, April 7: ‘Nobody’s Nobody’, ‘Might As Well Be Me’, and ‘Rollercoaster (Forever and a Day)’. They will be packaged as the “Nobody’s Nobody Sampler”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5d67em27
• Carrie Underwood – is definitely known for her glittery outfits. But she’s also a big fan of vintage band T-shirts. Last week, she posted a photo montage of the outfits she wore for all 43 meet-and-greet sessions during her Denim & Rhinestones Tour. Featured were vintage T-shirts from artists such as Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, Guns N’ Roses, Skid Row and Metallica. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3auuvfns
• Luke Combs – posted a video showing his “attempt” to go into a local record store and buy his new “Gettin’ Old” album – only to have it go hilariously wrong. Long story, but worth a watch. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yc376xzs

SHOOTING THE BULL

SCIENTISTS SAY:
⇒ Pet owners may be particularly at risk of poor sleep. Researchers from Lincoln Memorial University found that having a dog was associated with greater odds of having a sleep disorder and trouble sleeping. They also found that owning a cat was linked to a higher chance of having leg jerks. (…plus a higher chance of having barf on your comforter!)
⇒ Plant-based meat products are healthier and better for the environment than animal-based meats, say food scientists at the University of Bath. They wrote that their “review demonstrates overwhelming evidence that, as well as being far more sustainable compared to animal products in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, water use and land use, plant-based animal product alternatives also have a wide range of health benefits”. (Especially for animals!)
⇒ University of Texas researchers claim to be closer to developing a drug that spurs weight loss – without the need for exercise. In theory, people could one day chow down on whatever they want without added health risks and weight gain. In tests using mice, the scientists discovered that the drug curbed weight gain from foods high in sugar and fat, which are prevalent in the Western diet. (A miracle product that spurs weight loss? Around here, we call that [***afternoon guy’s****] cooking!)

THIS OLD BAG’S BEEN AROUND:
French luxury accessory brand Coperni has unveiled its limited-edition “meteorite” handbag. Yup – a purse that is hand-carved from a meteorite that fell on Earth thousands of years ago. That’s gotta be expensive, right? Definitely. They’re selling right now for €40,000 (US $43,000). Coperni says the unique handbag “combines archeology, design, as well as classical and primitive art”. The Mini Meteorite Swipe Bag has the general shape of the brand’s iconic swipe bag, with a rougher finish, which makes sense considering that it’s hand-sculpted out of rock…or rather a real meteorite. The Coperni Meteorite bag measures 9 x 12 x 23 cm, but how much does it weigh? It’s about 2kg (4.4lbs) …heavy for an empty bag, but manageable. Each bag supposedly contains a piece of meteorite estimated to have fallen to Earth 55,000 years ago. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mrx58fuz
(Yes, it seems heavy, but remember: If you’re paying $43K for a purse, you won’t have any money left over to put anything in it!)
(Finally! A purse that dudes won’t mind carrying for their girl!)

SUCCESSFUL FAILURE TO LAUNCH:
We hope this venture works out for them. A brand-new gallery dedicated to retail objects that bombed opened this month in New York. The Museum of Failure collects “failed products and services from around the world,” offering what it calls a “fascinating learning experience” into failed innovation. Featured are about 160 retail items that didn’t catch on, including the much-reviled Google Glass (remember that?), and the ill-fated DeLorean car, made famous by the “Back to the Future” movies. What other things come to mind that you’d expect to see at a ‘museum of failure’? How about New Coke? Or the 2003 Nokia N-Gage smartphone, which, despite its failure in the US, helped jump-start Finland’s mobile gaming industry. Also on display: Bic for Her pens, which were released in 2011 – their only difference from other writing instruments was they were in sparkly, bright colors. The exhibit runs through May, with a possible extension into June – provided it goes over more successfully than the things featured inside.
(Name some more failed products. How about Crystal Pepsi? The Nintendo Power Glove? Grape-flavored potato chips?)
(Museum of failure? Hey…That’s what I call my resumé!)

ICONIC FOODS THAT AREN’T AS OLD AS YOU THINK:
❑ Tiramisu:  In 1972, it was added to the menu at an Italian restaurant as “Tiramesù,” a contraction of a phrase meaning “pick me up” in the local dialect.
❑ Chicken tikka masala:  Created in a Glasgow restaurant in the 1970s when a customer complained the chicken tikka was dry. The owner decided to marinate it in yogurt and add a tomato-cream sauce.
❑ Ciabatta: Far from being a centuries-old bread, ciabatta was created in 1982 by baker and racing driver Arnaldo Cavallari, in Italy.
❑ Cavendish bananas:  They’ve only been in stores since the 1960s. They’re remarkably consistent from country to country because commercial banana production essentially involves cloning the same plant over and over.
❑ Baby carrots:  Newsflash: They’re usually just regular carrots cut to a smaller size. They were invented in 1986 by a California farmer who was looking for a way to save the tons of carrots going to waste because they were wonky, twisted or broken.
❑ Chocolate Chip cookies:  Invented in 1938 by a restaurant owner in Massachusetts, who called it the Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookie, after the name of her restaurant.
❑ Hawaiian pizza:  The world’s most controversial pizza was invented in 1962 – in Canada, of course. (Where did you think?)
❑ Nachos: Invented in a Mexican border city in 1940 when a restaurant worker needed to rustle up a quick snack for some American military wives. He chopped some tortillas into triangles, fried them and topped them with grated cheese and jalapeno peppers. (The “nacho cheese” joke was invented the same afternoon…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Other people’s body odor could help reduce your social anxiety, according to a new study. Although it seems unappealing, researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden discovered that exposure to the stink of human “chemo-signals” reduced social anxiety by nearly 40% when accompanied by mindfulness therapy. The lead researcher said: “Our state of mind causes us to produce molecules (or chemo-signals) in sweat, which communicate our emotional state and produce corresponding responses in the receivers.” (No wonder I feel so calm whenever I take a stroll past the IT department!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .

• “Something on a Stick Day”, celebrating corn dogs, shish kebabs, Popsicles, ice cream bars, and any of the estimated 3 dozen other foods regularly served on a stick.
• “Weed Appreciation Day”. Easy does it, there…It’s a salute to plants that grow wild, which, though classified as weeds, have a beauty all their own. Think of them as wildflowers, and see if that helps.
• “Black Forest Cake Day”, it is not named directly after the Black Forest in southwestern Germany, but from the specialty liquor of that region, known as Schwarzwälder Kirsch(wasser), distilled from tart cherries.
• “Eat an Edy’s Pie Day” (formerly Eskimo Pies), The inspiration for Eskimo Pie was a boy’s indecision in a store in 1920. He wanted ice cream, then decided on a chocolate bar. When asked why he didn’t buy both, the boy replied, “I only got a nickel.” The proprietor began experimenting with methods of sticking melted chocolate to ice cream, until he found cocoa butter to be perfect.
• “American Diabetes Association Alert Day, “a one-day ‘wake-up call’ to raise awareness about the seriousness of diabetes and its risk factors”. The focal point is the Diabetes Risk Test, which we’re asked to take and to share with others. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5h8za8pn
