BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ In its latest trailer, “Fantastic Four: First Steps” teases a possible new addition to Marvel’s First Family. Ahead of its theatrical release July 25, Marvel Studios released the trailer Thursday, after it debuted earlier this month at CinemaCon. Director Matt Shakman’s feature offers a new take on the superhero quartet who made their first comic book appearance in 1961. The ‘First Steps’ trailer shows Pedro Pascal’s ‘Mr. Fantastic’ and Vanessa Kirby’s ‘Invisible Woman’ learn that they are expecting a baby, to which she reponds: “We can do this.” The hero family faces threats from ‘Galactus’ but are determined to stay united, even as the public begins to lose faith in them. Toward the end of the clip, Julia Garner’s ‘Silver Surfer’ glides across the screen to offer a warning. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/568sa5h3

★ Dave Coulier has revealed he was hospitalized with a life-threatening cold in the final days of his cancer treatment. The “Full House” star, who was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in October, explained on his former castmates Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber’s podcast that he had caught a cold while his immune system was weakened. The 65-year-old said he could not “get out of bed for 10 days” when finally, his wife forced him to see a doctor, and he ended up in hospital on an antibiotics IV for 4 days. Eventually it was discovered he had rhinovirus, and doctors told him that they could have “lost” the actor if he had “waited another 48 hours”.

TRIM SPENDING, NOT HAIR:
I mean, sure, some economists and other really smart people say we’re headed for a recession – or we’re already there, but you know how to REALLY tell? Head to your local hair salon, have a seat, and observe. According to a new report, salon owners and hairstylists say that many young women are skipping hair appointments and opting for cheaper hairstyles. Another possible indicator of economic trouble: A new trend on TikTok is sporting “recession blonde” hair, which involves letting your natural, darker roots grow out, to save money on touch-ups. Experts compare it to the “recession hair” phenomenon salons saw after the 2008 financial crisis, which often involved longer, possibly greyer and, generally, less well-coiffed hairdos. In addition, Google says that searches for “press-on nails” in the US are up 10% since February. And just so you know, how young women spend their money is often seen as the canary in the economic coalmine. Women shoppers accounted for 60% of sales in general merchandise (like clothes, home decor, etc.) over the past year – and their spending has dropped by 1% since February.
(…and that’s not because, just like mine, their credit cards are still maxed out from Christmas?)
(Hey! If my hair looks like it’s 2008, it’s because my bank account does too!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ Several crosswalk buttons in 3 California cities have been disabled after they were tampered with — to play fake audio clips in the voices of Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Videos show crosswalk buttons in Redwood City, Menlo Park and Palo Alto being pressed and, instead of the usual pedestrian alerts, one says: “Hi, this is Mark Zuckerberg, but real ones call me the Zuck. You know, it’s normal to feel uncomfortable or even violated as we forcefully insert AI into every facet of your conscious experience. And I just want to assure you, you don’t need to worry, because there’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. Anyway, see ya.” Another, claiming to be Musk, offers to give Cybertrucks to people in exchange for being his friend, because: “You don’t know the level of depravity I would stoop to just for a crumb of approval. I mean, let’s be real, it’s not like I had any moral convictions to begin with.” 12 crosswalks in Palo Alto alone were affected. All have since been disabled. (Or should I say they were “deleted”? “Blocked”? “Unfollowed”?)
➢ A Utah woman was arrested and accused of leading police on a high-speed chase — then calling for roadside assistance after officers spiked her tire. 45-year-old Annamae Martinez was allegedly spotted driving down I-70 at a blazing 120 mph. When a trooper tried to stop her, she hit the gas again. After a 100-mile pursuit and 2 tire spike attempts, her car finally popped a tire near Sigurd. But the drama was just getting started. Despite troopers shouting through a PA system, she refused to exit the vehicle. Then, in a plot twist no one saw coming, she called AAA — yes, roadside assistance — while still in a police standoff. But AAA patched her through to police, who patched her through to reality. She finally surrendered and was booked for reckless driving and fleeing. (What did she want AAA to do? Fix her tire AND pay the cops off?)

DID YOU KNOW?
If you’re not a fan of working out, but would like to take advantage of some of the benefits, try doing your everyday chores and activities more quickly. In a new study published in Circulation, researchers analyzed the daily movements of more than 20,000 adults. None formally exercised. But some moved with more zip than others as they went about their lives, taking the stairs instead of the escalator, for instance, or speed vacuuming their living room. It was found that these everyday exertions, often amounting to less than 5 minutes per day, made otherwise sedentary adults as much as half as likely to experience a heart attack or stroke in the following years, compared to those who dawdled through their days. (Here’s the exception: If you’re stuck behind a dawdler at the grocery store, then you’re TWICE as likely to have a heart attack or stroke!)

BS CHRONOMETER 04.18.25
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Good Friday”, a solemn day commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, as recorded in the Bible. It is observed during Holy Week on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, and sometimes as Black Friday.
• “Piñata Day”. While the tradition of the piñata is typically thought of as originating in Mexico, its origins go back to the 14th century. It was brought to Mexico by the Spanish conquistadors. Today, we celebrate “the ultimate party prop” by making or buying one, then having a good whack at it with a stick.
• “Adult Autism Awareness Day”, to create awareness of the Adult Autism Community, demonstrate the importance of transition planning, promote inclusiveness through education, and improve social and employment outcomes for adults with autism.
• “Newspaper Columnists Day”, initiated in 1995 by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists, to increase awareness of the importance and contribution made by columnists and journalists worldwide. (Without whom, talk radio wouldn’t know where to go to find employees!)
• “Animal Crackers Day”. Dating back to the 1800s in England, animal crackers are a type of small cookie baked in the shape of circus or zoo animals, like lions, tigers, bears, and elephants. (But are they vegan-friendly?) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p9cmckh
• “Pet Owners Independence Day”. If you’re a pet owner, today you can celebrate yourself! How? You should take the day off work and send your pet in your place. Then enjoy life from the perspective of your furry friend by sleeping and eating all day long. (Ah! So just like what I did on the weekend!)
• “World Amateur Radio Day”, honoring the worldwide hobby of ‘ham radio’. It’s observed on the anniversary of the 1925 founding of the International Amateur Radio Union. (Amateur? Radio? Are you pointing at me?)
• “World Heritage Day”, also known as “International Monuments and Sites Day”, to increase awareness of the importance of the diversity of cultural heritage, and preserve it for generations in the future.
SATURDAY:
• “Humorous Day”, a day to find the humor in any situation that happens to be thrown your way, and to remember to see the bright side, and to recognize that most things are really not as important as they may at first seem. (My wife and I share the same sense of humor. We have to, because she doesn’t seem to have one of her own…)
• “Husband Appreciation Day”, when husbands are shown how much they mean to their spouse. What qualities are most appreciated in a husband? A survey of wives says: the hard work they do, that they can ‘be themselves’ around him, that he makes them laugh, that he is smart, and that he is supportive of their goals and desires. (Which really makes me wonder why MY wife keeps me around…)
• “Garlic Day”, saluting the ‘stinking rose’ that has been cultivated as long as history has been recorded. It’s said that if you rub a clove of garlic on your partner’s feet at night, you’ll taste it on their breath the next morning. (Why you’d actually want to do this, I’m not sure…)
• “Hanging Out Day”, an initiative of Project Laundry List, promoting energy conservation by using a clothesline instead of an electric dryer. (And while you’re at it, hang those garlic-y feet outside for a while, willya?) LINK: http://www.laundrylist.org
• “Rice Ball Day”. In case you don’t know what a rice ball is, they’re pretty much exactly what it says on the tin, a ball of rice. They come in an amazing variety of flavors and textures, and date back to the 11th century, when they were called Tonjiki.
• “Amaretto Day”, Amaretto, in Italian, means “a little bitter” and is made from bitter almonds or apricot kernels, or both. The nuts are infused in pure alcohol or brandy, resulting in a strong almond flavor.
• “Bicycle Day”, commemorating the date that Dr. Albert Hofmann first tripped on LSD and bicycled home from his lab in Switzerland in 1943. During his ride, he experienced the psychedelic effects of LSD, the first acid trip in history. (A bicycle ‘trip’?)
SUNDAY:
• “Easter Sunday”, celebrated by Christians to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans in 30 AD. It is preceded by Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. Special church services are held, and in some countries, there are processions.
• “420” or “Pot Smokers Day”, the unofficial holiday of potheads. A few facts, man:
☞ ‘Four-twenty’ became an emblematic number for dopers in the 1970s. It comes from 4:20pm, the secret ‘burn time’ originated by a group of pot-smoking students at a California high school in 1971.
☞ Marijuana is by far the world’s most lucrative cash crop. It is also #1 based on value per square km, followed by coca (the plant used to make cocaine), and opium poppy. Non-drug related crops, like potatoes, vegetables, and wheat, fall far behind.
• “Lima Bean Respect Day”, encouraging us to recognize the protein power offered by the tasteless, mealy morsel that most of us avoid at all costs. (You have to admit, Lima Bean Day has some pretty tough competition, with it also being 420 and all…)
• “Look-Alike Day”, for people who are constantly mistaken for rich and famous celebrities to have some recognition of their own. (So, what famous person are YOU always told you look like?)
• “Volunteer Recognition Day”, honoring the legions of people who dedicate themselves to causes and helping others, thereby making both big and small differences in the lives of millions worldwide.
• “Cheddar Fries Day”. Who can resist crispy, golden French fries topped with cheddar cheese? Add some chives, bacon or jalapenos, and you have a culinary delight that will satisfy even the most discerning taste buds (The perfect snack for “420”, or am I overdoing it just a bit?)

➠ Actor Eric Roberts turns 69 today. (Thanks to him, “Mirror, Mirror” isn’t the most embarrassing thing in Julia Roberts’ life!)
➠ A survey claims that 90% of Americans own a smartphone. (…which is interesting, because in a related survey, 100% of smartphones say they own an American!)
