BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ After allegedly crashing a car into the front gate of Jennifer Aniston’s home and “repeatedly harassing” her for more than 2 years, a 48-year-old man is facing felony charges. Jimmy Wayne Carwyle was arraigned on one count each of felony stalking and felony vandalism. The DA’s office asked the judge to set his bail at $150,000. The Monday incident, which caused “substantial damage” to the “Friends” star’s home in LA’s affluent Bel Air neighborhood, was the culmination of years of sending Aniston “unwanted social media, voicemail, and email messages,” the DA’s office said.

★ Amy Poehler is making her long-awaited return to comedy TV. Peacock announced they’ve picked up a new series from Poehler and Mike Schur, who created “Parks and Recreation” and found further success with “The Good Place” and “A Man on the Inside”. According to the logline, the upcoming series finds “four women working at an archeological dig in Greece” who are all at “wildly different crossroads in their lives.” It’ll be Poehler’s first foray into TV since the 2015 series finale of Parks and Rec.

★ Miley Cyrus’ mother, Tish Cyrus, seemingly unfollowed the singer on Instagram after ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus hinted at a father-daughter reunion. Billy Ray captioned a clip of Miley singing at the piano on Wednesday, and wrote: “Crazy how time flies. Can’t wait to see this young lady.” The ‘Access Miley’ fan account on X quickly noted, within an hour of Billy Ray’s post — that Tish was no longer following her famous daughter on Instagram. This comes amid years of drama for the Cyrus clan, beginning with the divorce of Billy Ray and Tish in 2022.

★ Ariel Winter is shedding light on her decision to leave LA. The actress, who played ‘Alex Dunphy’ on “Modern Family” for 11 seasons, moved out of her hometown with boyfriend when the sitcom ended in 2020 after a number of negative experiences left her craving a major change. Among them: The media’s obsession with her changing body. She told People: “I didn’t leave the industry. I just left the city of LA. It holds some not-great memories for me, and I’m young and never lived anywhere else, and thought, ‘Why not?’” Winter stressed that she isn’t opposed to returning, “if I get a network show”.

★ Tom Brady said he views his 2024 roast as a parenting mistake and a learning opportunity. The retired NFL star participated in Netflix’s “The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady”, which aired live last May. It featured appearances from the likes of Kevin Hart, Nikki Glaser and Kim Kardashian, and each star took a turn poking fun at Brady. But during a recent podcast, the 7-time Super Bowl winner said that he has some “regret[s]” about participating in the roast because, quote: “It was tough on my kids, for sure.”

BLESSINGS FOR ME, LESSONS FOR THEE:
Have you ever noticed how karma always seems to be on your side—but it serves up cold revenge when it’s someone else? Like that time you found a crisp $20 bill right after donating to a good cause? Or when that jerk who cut you off got a flat tire 5 miles down the road? It turns out, this isn’t just coincidence—it’s how our brains are wired, according to new research from Toronto’s York University. In an international study of 2,000 people, psychologists found a clear pattern: when we think about karma in our own lives, we remember the good stuff. About 60% of people recalled rewards after doing good deeds. But when it comes to others, a whopping 92% focused on their “cosmic comeuppance”. That bias shows up everywhere, but is strongest in Western cultures like the U.S., where 71% described personal karma as a pat on the back. In contrast, those from India and Singapore—where karma runs deep — showed a more balanced view. Still, isn’t it great to have the feeling that karma’s got your back?
(Karma loves me like Oprah — ‘You get a blessing! And you get a blessing!’ But not that guy…!)
(Lately, my karma’s been less ‘cosmic rewards,’ and more ‘cosmic prank show.’”

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Lexington KY woman says her son ordered 30 cases of Dum-Dum suckers from Amazon while playing on her phone. In a Facebook post, Holly LaFavers told how young Liam, who has some developmental delays, was trying to do something nice for his friends, so he ordered up the 30 cases, each costing $130 and containing 2,340 suckers. Before shipping and tax, that’s a total of $4,200. And Amazon only allowed her to return 8 of the 30 boxes, so she and Liam have 22 left over, which she says they plan to sell. (…just as soon as she can find some…errrr… suckers!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/52m3be7j
➢ About 25,000 residents of the town of Lice, in Turkey involuntarily got high after police burned 20 tons of seized cannabis in the town center. The incineration, part of a large anti-narcotics operation, caused lingering smoke that left locals complaining of dizziness, nausea, and other…ahem!…symptoms for days. Some residents sought medical help as air quality deteriorated. Critics condemned the method, and complained the fact that the name of the town, LICE, was spelled out using the burning bags of weed in the town square only added insult to injury. (Also adding insult to injury was the fact that they didn’t pipe in some Bob Marley tunes!)

DID YOU KNOW?
You might have heard that the often-cited goal of 10,000 steps per day is a number that was simply plucked out of thin air by the guy who invented the pedometer. But regardless of that, the fact remains that walking is good for you. And now, there’s another reason for upping your daily step count: It reduces your risk of developing depression. That’s the message from a study published in the journal JAMA Network Open. Researchers found that taking 1,000 steps extra a day can reduce the risk of depression by 9%, and a daily step count of 7,000 or more was linked with a 31% lower risk of depression. (The problem? It was also linked with a 31% HIGHER chance of getting caught in the rain!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Lost Sock Memorial Day”, a day to remember those singular hose that went into the washing machine or dryer, never to return. (And play ‘Taps’ for them?)
• “Moscato Day”. Moscato, or Muscat in Italian, is one of the oldest known varieties of grapes. Today, raise your glass and toast National Moscato Day.
• “Tear the Tags Off the Mattress Day”, definitely not an event for the timid. But if you crave excitement and enjoy living on the edge, gird up your loins and ‘fresh courage take’! Forego those posted warnings from the government — and rip off those tags! And if you’re really feeling bold, do the pillows too.
• Hurray for Buttons Day”. Button collecting, which is most popular in the United States, varies from people keeping buttons in a container for future use, to casual collecting, to competitive collecting. (Competitive collecting??)
• “Butterscotch Brownie Day”. They’re also known as Blondies or Brookie (brownie + cookie). Blonde brownies were actually created before chocolate brownies.
• “Canadian Tulip Festival” begins, running through May 18 in Canada’s Capital Region of Ottawa-Gatineau. The world’s largest tulip festival is thanks to a gift of 100,000 tulip bulbs from Dutch Princess (later Queen) Juliana in 1945, as thanks for providing her a home during WW2. SATURDAY:
• “Clean Up Your Room Day”. What, once a year? Were you born in a barn?
• “Trust Your Intuition Day”, a day to listen to your ‘gut-feelings’ and act upon them. Is it true … are women better at this than men? (I had a feeling they were…)
• “National Small Business Day”. A ‘small business’ is commonly defined as one with fewer than 100 employees. (Many of today’s small businesses used to be big businesses…)
• “World Lupus Day”, to create awareness of the potentially fatal auto-immune disease that can damage virtually any part of the body. 9-out-of-10 people with lupus are women.
• “Windmill Day”. The objective of this day now includes electricity-generating windmills. Recognizing their importance to produce “green” energy, we’re encouraged to support windmill research and to promote the development and installation of electrical power-generating windmills in our communities.
• “National Shrimp Day”. Some shrimpy ‘Whack Facts’:
✓ Generally speaking, the colder the water, the smaller and more succulent the shrimp.
✓ Shrimp change color when you cook them, due to a heat-induced chemical change in their shells.
✓ Shrimp are low in calories, high in protein, and in many parts of the world, are eaten with the heads on.
✓ Some shrimp can loudly snap their pincers.
✓ Jumbo and colossal shrimp are referred to as prawns – although the prawn is actually a different species.
✓ The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company Restaurant was inspired by 1994 film “Forrest Gump”. It operates about 30 restaurants worldwide.
SUNDAY:
• “Mother’s Day”, in over 90 countries, including USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe. The modern holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mom at a church in Grafton WV. More North Americans eat out on Mother’s Day than any other special occasion. (No reservations? Forget it.)
• “Eat What You Want Day”, a day to ignore all the warnings, avoid worrying and counting calories, and fight our obsession with being thin. If healthfulness was not a concern, what would you really, really like to eat? (We’re going with bacon-stuffed bacon!)
• “Twilight Zone Day”, that mysterious 24 hours that should be highlighted with eerie background music and unexplainable occurrences. Why today? It’s not the anniversary of the first episode of the show. It isn’t the anniversary of the birth or death of its creator, Rod Serling. It’s just…totally…unexplainable….
• “Hostess Cupcake Day” a day to celebrate and enjoy one of America’s most beloved snack cakes. (See “Eat What You Want Day”, above…)
• “World Ego Awareness Day”, to raise awareness about egotism. The day supports those affected by egotism, both the abused and perpetrators, and aims to prevent people from experiencing this invisible form of abuse. (So, today, leggo your ego…)
