★ Johnny Depp says the industry used him as the #MeToo test case, likening himself to a “crash test dummy” in a new interview. In an interview with The Times, he was asked about his relationship with Amber Heard — and his excommunication from Hollywood circles. Depp pointed out he was taken to task even before allegations against Harvey Weinstein came out, as a so-called “crash test dummy”. Depp — who is making a career comeback, including directing Al Pacino and Stephen Graham in the new flick “Modi” — said he was a “sucker” for falling for Heard.

★ As many ‘Harry Potter’ fans boycott the new HBO series over J.K. Rowling‘s aggressive anti-transgender stance, the author is getting her loyalists hyped. With the latest adaptation of her novels beginning production this summer and premiering in 2026, Rowling teased the first 2 episodes, posting on X: “I read the first 2 episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!” When asked if she’s writing the series, Rowling clarified: “No, but I’ve worked closely with the extremely talented writers.”

★ Margaret Cho reflected on her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres during a recent podcast. She described the former TV host as “somebody that I’d known for such a long time.” Then she pointed out: “It’s so weird now, [the] public perception of her is…she’s mean.” Cho then told host Kelly Mantle: “I think she always had negative feelings toward me because her girlfriends and wives always liked me…But yeah, Ellen was really weird, and not nice to me for most of my career.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Drake – Many fans were aghast last week when he posted screenshots of his $8 million gambling losses for the past month. The rapper has a $100 million endorsement deal with online casino Stake, so the loss might not be significant to him, but some commenters pointed to the post as an example of how out of touch with reality big stars can become. (He’s also an example of how NOT to bet, apparently!)
• Lizzo – set the record straight on those Ozempic rumors. In Jan., she told fans that she reached her “weight release goal” after months of dedicated exercise and healthy habits. But on the “Just Trish” podcast last week, when asked about using GLP-1 medications, she said: “I’ve tried everything. It’s just the science for me. Calories in versus calories out. Ozempic works because you eat less food.”
• The Who – remarked on the group’s sacking of longtime drummer Zak Starkey, admitting that things “got out of hand”. In a new interview, Townshend said he did not agree with singer Roger Daltrey’s assessment that Starkey made errors during the Royal Albert Hall performance that brought things to a head, but cautioned that he had to be careful what he said, because Daltrey will “be sacking me next.”
• The Cranberries – The group’s surviving members will celebrate “No Need to Argue’s” 30th anniversary with a limited-edition deluxe set of the album. The special 3LP vinyl package includes a previously unreleased demo of ‘Zombie’, live recordings from the band’s set at Woodstock ’94, and their 1995 performance of MTV Unplugged.
• Bruce Springsteen – has dropped a video clip giving details on his upcoming “Tracks II: The Lost Albums” box set, out this Friday. In it, he explains the records featured on the set “were full records”… but he felt “something (was) missing…or they just didn’t feel complete at the time.” During COVID, he “finished” them. He also announced there will be a “Tracks III”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y2vm25xt
• Anne Murray – will release her 33rd album “Here You Are” on Sept. 5. It’s made up of 11 unearthed songs recorded at the height of the country/pop legend’s career, including the new single ‘Rest Easy (in My Love)’, and a cover of the 1983 Bryan Adams hit ‘Straight From the Heart’.
• Jelly Roll — After joining “American Idol” as “artist in residence”, now’s he’s signed on to be a guest host this summer on another ABC show — “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”. Other celebs stepping in for Kimmel starting today include Anthony Anderson, Alan Cumming, Chris Distefano, and Diego Luna.
• Post Malone — will headline the Esports World Cup opening ceremony on July 10 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He’s an avid gamer himself, and often streams his play on Twitch. Posty is also a part owner of Optic Gaming, an esports and entertainment organization.
• Kenny Chesney — As he wrapped the final night of his 15-show stint at Las Vegas’ the Sphere on the weekend, he spilled that he’s extending his residency into 2026. From the stage, he said: “To be able to take our audience on such a magical journey has been one of the highlights of our lives…Next summer, we will come back to the Sphere. If you guys will come back, we will come back.”

POURING COLD WATER ON COLD SHOWERS:
With many areas dealing with a serious heat wave this week, you might be thinking that the best way to start the day might be with a nice, cold shower. Or, maybe you’d prefer to END the day with one. Well, bad idea, according to an expert. Adam Taylor, a Professor of Anatomy at Lancaster University, warns that dousing ourselves in cold water constricts blood vessels near the skin, thus trapping heat inside. A cold shower or an ice bath could even trigger a dangerous “cold shock” response, especially in those with heart conditions. And if you’re considering a hot shower, maybe just for the feeling of relief when you’re done – don’t be that guy (or girl) — they just add heat. Instead, it’s best to go for a lukewarm shower (around 26°C or 79°F). That brings blood to the surface to cool, and helps clean away sweat and bacteria. If you must go with cold water, ease in gradually to avoid shocking your system.
(Of if you REALLY want to cool down, do what my wife does, apparently: Stick your feet in the freezer for an hour before bed!)
(Cold showers: great for after bad decisions, bad for your pores…)

TINDER: THE MORE THE MATCH-IER:
Tinder is evolving beyond one-on-one swipes. The dating app has announced a new “Double Date” feature that pairs up friends, so they can match and mingle with other duos. Currently rolling out across the US, Double Date lets users team up with up to THREE friends to browse profiles of other duos. Once 2 people from opposing pairs swipe right, a group chat opens instantly, where potentially, plans for a double-date could be arranged. This all happens in a dedicated section of the app. There, friends can form pairs and view side-by-side profiles, complete with photos and bios. The reaction? By the looks of things, a mixture of amusement and confusion. One person posted: “@Tinder how am I supposed to double date when I can’t even get a single date.” And others joked that the feature was developed so one person could go on a date with 2 people at the same time.
(The new “Double Date” feature: Because awkward silences are better in pairs!)
(Great, now I can get rejected as a team!)

CHEWS WISELY:
Just when you thought you had bought every toy and treat that your dog could possibly have, comes this: Dog nutrition and wellness brand Spot & Tango has announced the launch of “PupGum”. You guessed it – it’s chewing gum for your dog. The company calls it the first and only dental chew for dogs made with a postbiotic that supposedly reduces bad breath in 7 days. And while, strictly speaking, Pupgum is not chewing gum, but rather “Dog Breath Chews”, Spot & Tango claims it “disrupts oral biofilms by 98%…preventing plaque from adhering to teeth.”, and “neutralizes 50% of the volatile sulfur compounds responsible for bad dog breath.” LINK: https://pupgum.com/
(Does it still work if Rover cleans out the cat box during those 7 days?)
(I can think of a few people I’d like to try that stuff on…)

HIDDEN COSTS:
It is sometimes said that money is the root of all evil. And apparently, it is also at the root of many secrets between partners as well – because according to new research, half of men have kept financial secrets from their partner. The most common hidden items? A secret savings account, undisclosed spending, or a “private” credit card. Many in the survey of 2,000 men said they stayed quiet about it out of embarrassment or shame — or they simply didn’t know how to bring it up. The study, commissioned for Men’s Mental Health Month, found a strong link between poor financial health and low mental well-being. Men who rated their finances poorly also reported the lowest mental health scores. Despite this connection, only 41% said they’d talk to their partner about their financial situation, and even fewer would open up to friends or family. Experts say this silence is hurting more than wallets — it’s damaging relationships and mental health.
(Secret savings account? I can barely keep anything in my regular one!)
(Imagine trying to hide a credit card…from the person who notices when you get a new pen!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Surgery is a more effective long-term weight-loss option than Ozempic or other weight-loss injections, according to new research. A clinical study at NYU Langone Health found that going under the knife – known as bariatric surgery – is associated with about 5 times more weight loss than weekly injections of GLP-1 receptor agonists semaglutide or tirzepatide at the end of 2 years. Patients who had a bariatric procedure lost an average 58 pounds (26kg) after 2 years, compared to 12 pounds (5.4kg) for patients who received a GLP-1 prescription for at least 6 months. (Great. Now, get ready for a deluge of weight-loss surgery commercials – with 90 seconds of side-effects listed at the end!)

• “Celebration of the Senses”, when we’re encouraged to treat ourselves to stimulation of each of our 5 senses. What would be the best sensation for each?
• “Pralines Day”, saluting the sweet & creamy taste treat made from sugared pecans or almonds. Pralines were invented in France by Marshal du Plessis-Praslin (hence the name).
• “International Fairy Day”, a holiday for believers, collectors, and the young at heart, to celebrate all that is ‘Fae’, and to reconnect with their imagination and child-like wonder.
• “St-Jean Baptiste Day”, the “Fête Nationale” holiday in the province of Québec and in French-Canadian communities across the country. Besides Québec, St John the Baptist is also the patron saint of auto routes, candlemakers, health spas, road workers, and wool workers.
• “Swim a Lap Day”, the pool equivalent of ‘Walk a Block’, an easily achievable step to getting your fitness initiative underway. (Or in my case, my drowning initiative!)
• “World UFO Day”, marking the anniversary of one of the first UFO sightings in the US, when Kenneth Arnold reported seeing 9 high-speed crescent-shaped objects near Mt. Rainier, WA in 1947. July 2 is the anniversary of the famous Roswell UFO incident, which also happened in 1947.
• “Museum Comes to Life Day”. Celebrate by spending time at any type of museum. On this day, you just might see an Ancient Egyptian mummy rise from its tomb, or feel the ground shake beneath a stampede of elephants. More likely, you’ll be treated to the past coming alive ‘figuratively’, with re-enactors in period dress, and demonstrations of trades and crafts from yesteryear.

BS REASONS TO BEWARE OF CAMPING WITH YOUR KIDS:
A few things to consider before that family tenting trip …
• All of your kids’ socks will become wet within 5 minutes of your arrival.
• Starting a fire on purpose is really hard. Starting one by accident is very easy. It’s kind of like making a baby.
• Your morning bathroom ritual will go from being your favorite part of the day to an hour of panic.
• Your kids will each find a special rock and then promptly lose it, causing you to spend the entire weekend searching for that rock.
• Ever try to get a 3-year-old to sit down? Now try it in a canoe.
• You’ll say, “I think that’s poison ivy” at least 40 times and be right twice.
• You’ll spend approximately 75% of each night explaining what that noise was.
• Two words: Tent farts.

BS SIGNS YOUR CAT MAY BE SOMEWHAT OVERWEIGHT:
• Fewer calls to the fire department, but a sudden upsurge in broken branches.
• Confused guests constantly mistaking her for beanbag chair.
• Cat food dish replaced with front-end loader.
• It’s no longer safe to lift him without a spotter.
• He only catches mice that get trapped in his gravitational pull.
• His enormous gut keeps your hardwood floors freshly buffed.
• Has more chins than lives.
