BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

★ Jason Momoa is officially back in ‘Duncan Idaho’ mode. Ahead of filming “Dune: Part Three,” the actor shared a video of himself shaving his beard for the first time in 6 years to get back into character. Momoa said the last time he shaved was for filming the original “Dune” remake, which came out in 2021. In the vid, he says: “Only for you, Denis,” referring to Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. He later added: “I hate it.” Dune: Part Three is expected to arrive in theaters in December 2026. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3329vdtb

★ Former US Vice President Kamala Harris is set to release a memoir in September detailing her 2024 presidential campaign. Harris and Simon & Schuster announced the book, titled “107 Days,” will offer insights into her campaign against President Trump. In a video announcement, Harris said: “Just over a year ago, I launched my campaign for President of the United States. 107 days traveling the country, fighting for our future — the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.” She promises a behind-the-scenes account of that journey, detailing “what I saw, what I learned, and what it will take to move forward.”

★ A sequel for Julia Roberts’ 1997 hit film “My Best Friend’s Wedding” is in the works. While no casting information is available, Celine Song, writer-director of “Past Lives” and “Materialists” has been commissioned to write the screenplay. Dermot Mulroney also recently shared that “there is talk of a sequel.” He starred opposite Roberts as a pair of best friends whose relationship comes to a head when Roberts’ character ‘Julianne’ learns Mulroney’s ‘Michael’ is about to get married.

★ Matt Damon and Ben Affleck won’t be bringing part of Hulk Hogan’s life to the big screen after all – and the decision has nothing to do with his recent passing. The stars’ production company, Artists Equity, isn’t moving forward with the project, which hasn’t been in development for some time. The decision was made before Hogan’s death, and it’s unclear why they decided to pull the plug on the film.
-TMZ
★ Harrison Ford, who just turned 83, isn’t ready to stop booking gigs. The actor, whose legendary roles include playing ‘Han Solo’ and “Indiana Jones”, was asked if he’ll ever retire. His answer: “No. That’s one of the things I thought was attractive about the job of an actor, was that they need old people, too, to play old people’s parts.” Ford has starred in over 60 films.

NEW FOOD NEWS:
❑ Kraft Mac & Cheese is combining two comfort food classics in one box with the release of its new limited-edition Pizza flavor, if you can believe it. Hitting shelves just in time for back-to-school season, the new variety blends Kraft’s signature creamy noodles with bold tomato, garlic, and Italian herb flavors reminiscent of a classic pizza slice. Following previous launches like Everything Bagel and Smoky Barbecue, this latest twist adds a nostalgic, savory kick to the iconic blue box. Early tasters say the pizza-inspired mac delivers on both aroma and flavor—making it a must-try for fans of cheesy, carb-filled comfort food. (I only have one question: Is this ketchup-appropriate?)
❑ A new Australian study suggests that reaching for a diet soda might come with unexpected health risks. Researchers found that drinking just one artificially sweetened soft drink daily—like Diet Coke or Pepsi Max—can increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 38%. And weirdly, that’s even higher than the 23% risk tied to full-sugar sodas. The 14-year study tracked over 36,000 adults and revealed that both sugar- and artificially-sweetened drinks were linked to a significantly greater risk. Experts say the findings challenge the idea that diet drinks are a safer choice. (That’s precisely why I make my drinks with a minimal amount of mix!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A TikTok video from a Tampa post office is going viral after a woman spotted what looks like a tip jar at a US Postal Service counter. In the clip, Kathy Jennice recorded a clip showing a basket of cash sitting next to a receipt printer and asked, “Is this the new normal?” The video has racked up nearly 30,000 views — and plenty of disbelief. Commenters were quick to point out that USPS employees are federal workers and legally barred from accepting tips. Some postal workers chimed in themselves, calling it a fireable offense. One offered a possible explanation, commenting: “It’s our swear jar for when the Karens show up.” (Do I tip before or after they lose my mail?) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y3n4kurs
➢ She finally said yes! After seven years, 42 rejections, and countless creative attempts, a determined UK man finally got the answer he’d been waiting for. 36-year-old Luke Wintrip proposed to his longtime partner, Sarah, a staggering 43 times before she accepted. The couple, who met in 2018, tied the knot in May, following a years-long journey filled with grand gestures—from candlelit castle dinners to horseback rides in Jamaica. Sarah initially turned down his proposals, saying she wasn’t ready so soon after a previous relationship and while raising 3 daughters. But Luke’s persistence paid off in 2023, when Sarah accepted his 43rd proposal during a romantic moment in London. The story has since gone viral, with clips of his many rejections—and final success—capturing hearts online. (I bet his next proposal will be for takeout—and she’ll still hesitate!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Despite longstanding advice to avoid screens at bedtime, new insights from sleep experts suggest that watching TV before sleep might not be harmful — and could even help some people. Dr. Emma Lin, a pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist, notes that for certain individuals, falling asleep to TV is “just right.” While blue light from screens has long been blamed for poor sleep, Dr. Michael Gradisar says the real culprit is often simply delaying bedtime. Experts now believe that, when used as part of a consistent wind-down routine, TV can signal the brain that it’s time to rest. The possible problem? The brain can associate TV with falling asleep, “so trying to sleep without it brings on anxiety.” (“So, if my Wi-Fi goes out, I’m just… awake forever?”)

BS CHRONOMETER 08.01.25

BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “August” begins, originally the 6th month of the Roman year which was called ‘Sextilis’. In 8 BC, Emperor Augustus Caesar persuaded the Senate to change the month’s name to ‘Augustus’ in his honor. If it weren’t for him, today would be the first of Sextilis!
• “Girlfriends Day”, either some girl’s greedy grab at gifts from her guy, or perhaps a day for ‘the girls’ to hang out and share woman-to-woman time? (And you’ll notice, guys, that ‘Girlfriends’ is in plural form. Take from that what you will…)
• “Respect for Parents Day”, since 1994, a day to remind everyone (not just children) that parents deserve and require respect. Today, we are reminded to consider the value parents have in our society.
• “World Wide Web Day”, marking the birth of the Web in August 1990 at the Europe Laboratory for Particle Physics in Switzerland. Tim Berners-Lee & Robert Cailliau developed a prototype Web browser and introduced Hypertext Markup Language [HTML] (And Al Gore was nowhere to be found…)
• “Spider-Man Day”, marking the superhero’s debut in 1962 in issue #15 of “Amazing Fantasy” comics, a creation of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. (My Spidey-sense told me this day was approaching…)
• “Homemade Pie Day”. Knead some dough into crust and fill a pie today with ingredients of your choice. And remember that pot pies filled with meat and veggies count, too!
• “International Beer Day”, celebrating suds from around-the-world. So, the best beer in the world is …?  (The next one?) According to the latest ranking by the website “Untapped”, the top-rated beers are the craft brews “Blue Suede Shews” and “M.J.K. (2021)”, which are both rated 4.78 out of 5 stars.
• “Play Ball Day”. Baseball umpires call out, “Play ball!” to start games. Here are a few ball-based sports to get the proverbial ‘ball’ rolling: baseball, basketball, billiards, bocce ball, bowling, carpet ball, croquet, dodge ball, field hockey, foosball, football, four square, golf, handball, jacks, juggling, lacrosse, marbles, paddleball, paddle tennis, paint ball, polo, racquetball, softball, squash, stickball, tee ball, tetherball, tennis, volleyball, water polo, waffle ball – and of course pickleball.

SATURDAY:
• “Ice Cream Sandwich Day”, celebrating the chilly goodness of stuffing ice cream between a couple of wafers. Stone cold brilliant!
• “Dinosaurs Day”. Enthusiasts dig up bones and dig through drawings of prehistoric creatures on this historical holiday. Here are a few dinosaur films to unearth on Dinosaurs Day: “Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend”, “Dinosaur”, “The Flintstones”, “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs”, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, any “Jurassic Park” movie, “King Kong, The Land Before Time”, “Land of the Lost”, “The Land That Time Forgot” and “We’re Back – A Dinosaur’s Story”.
• “Coloring Book Day”. Spend some time coloring with your friends, children or grandchildren — or by yourself…try to stay inside the lines!
• “CAD Day”, or National Computer-Aided Design Day. CAD is “the use of computer software to help create, change, analyze or optimize designs.” It is utilized in fields like architecture, construction, and product design. (Has this term been replaced by ‘A.I.’?)
• “Disc Golf Day”, celebrating the flying disc sport that is similar to traditional golf. Many ball golf rules apply: A player tees off and tries to reach a target in as few strokes as possible. There is a par score for each hole, out-of-bounds, penalty strokes, and typical courses are 9 or 18 holes in length.
• “Mustard Day”, honoring the ‘condiment of kings’. It’s sponsored by Middleton, Wisconsin’s Mustard Museum, home of the world’s largest collection of mustard memorabilia. (Now THAT’S gotta be exciting!) LINK: https://mustardmuseum.com/
• “Jamaican Patty Day”. Filled with a variety of fillings, Jamaican patties satisfy hunger with seasoned ground beef, chicken, seafood or vegetables. The crust is ideally flaky in texture and shaped into a half-moon. While the fillings are usually spicy, milder stuffings are offered for the more faint-of-heart.

SUNDAY:
• “Clean Your Floors Day”, dedicated to scrubbing, mopping, shampooing, and doing whatever else is necessary to get them clean. (Like hire someone?)
• “Grab Some Nuts Day”, because sometimes you feel like a nut!
• “Watermelon Day”, celebrating the summer treat that’s part of the pumpkin, squash, and gourd family. Watermelons originated in Africa, then spread to Egypt, India, China, and eventually around-the-world (and eventually also dripped down your arm…).
• “Airplane Crop Duster Day”. To honor those who play an integral part in the safe, abundant production of food and fiber throughout the world. Fly safe! (And watch out for the ‘other’ kind of crop-duster!)
• “Psychic Day”, to encourage us to take the initiative to improve the 6th-sense that’s lying dormant within us all. The day’s origins date back to 19th-century England. (I wasn’t going to mention this occasion…but they would have known I skipped it!)
