BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Rob McElhenney‘s wife, Kaitlin Olson, addressed his name change to Rob Mac and revealed their children’s reaction in an interview. McElhenney recently signed the paperwork to initiate the name change process. Olson said: “The kids are really not happy about it, because they have that last name. And so do I, legally.” In the same interview, McElhenney explained the reason for his name change: Not only do people mispronounce his name “all the time”, his company, More Better Industries, is planning to expand to other countries, where his last name would be “even harder to pronounce.”

★ “Modern Family” actress Julie Bowen recently shared that she’s had a pacemaker since she was 29, due to a condition that makes her heart rate drastically drop. In a recent podcast, she said that she often forgets she even has it. She also shared that she got the disorder thanks to “sick sinus syndrome, Hypervagotonia.” That leads to “sinus node dysfunction,” according to the National Library of Medicine, which “means your heart rate just goes really low.” Bowen said her pacemaker alerts her if her heart goes below 45 beats per minute. The typical resting heart rate for women is 60-100 beats per minute.

★ Following her 8-year portrayal of resistance leader ‘June Osborne’ on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”, Elisabeth Moss is moving on to a completely different role. She’ll star in and executive produce “Imperfect Women”, Apple TV+’s upcoming adaptation of Araminta Hall’s 2020 novel. It’s a psychological thriller examining a crime that shatters the lives of a decades-long friendship of 3 women. No premiere date so far.

★ Guy Fieri is being sued by Food Network show winner Kevin Cooper. Cooper, who won “Guys’ Chance of a Lifetime” in 2022, for the chance to run one of his own Chicken Guy franchises, is suing the celeb chef for alleged breach of contract. The store opened in February 2024 and closed a year later, and Cooper alleges that his expenses exceeding revenue totaled $69,000, $39,000 of which were Pennsylvania sales taxes. Cooper claims the defendants never paid him those expenses, nor the $100,000 minimum salary he was promised.

★ “Doctor Odyssey” may not be ready to go to port just yet. After it was reported that the ABC drama is basically dead in the water after one season as cast options expire, the network is saying differently. Multiple sources are reporting that ABC and 20th Television are still “discussing its future.” Previously, Disney Television Group President said that although the series “isn’t currently on our schedule,” they were continuing “creative conversations” with creator and producer Ryan Murphy.

SHOOTING THE BULL

TRY-ON NOT TO LAUGH:
Google is testing a new app called “Doppl”, which lets you virtually try on outfits, using AI. You supply it with a full-body photo and a screenshot of the outfit you’re considering buying, and the app generates a
digital version of you wearing the clothes you found online – basically “stylin” your potential outfit.
Doppl can even animate the pic, showing you waving or striking a pose. While it mostly works, some users have reported odd results: pants often look odd if you’re wearing shorts in the source photo, and in some cases, the app generates mismatched body parts — like fake feet. Doppl is also programmed to enforce content rules, blocking more revealing outfits or images of public figures. But still, when refined, Doppl could be a creative tool for virtual fashion try-ons. It’s currently available in the US on iOS and Android.
(Finally! An app that lets me dress like a Sims glitch…!)
(Trust me, if I’m wearing shorts, EVERYTHING looks odd!)

SECRETS MEN DON’T TELL WOMEN:
In a recent Reddit thread, guys were asked to spill the relationship secrets that they wouldn’t dare tell their significant other. Here are some of the best answers…
❑ “When you send us selfies, we will probably save our favorite ones to the cloud.”
❑ “Yes, your friend is hot, and yes, sometimes hotter than you, but we really don’t care that much…We recognize they’re hot and move on. We picked you because we love you.”
❑ “The smell of my wife’s hair is the smell of home…That scent has become the ultimate comfort to me; it just makes me feel like whatever’s going on…it’s all gonna be OK”
❑ “Compliments, or acknowledgements of good doing, are things we will remember forever.”
❑ “We have the ability to shut our brains off. I mean flatlining off to the point where we think of absolutely nothing.”
❑ “Zero chance we want to go see what that sound was you heard in the middle of the night — because we are just as scared as you, but we do it anyways.”
❑ “We didn’t really get that spider, and it fell somewhere onto the bed.”
❑ “Y’all fart in your sleep.”

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A squirrel rescue. From a tree. That’s what happened when Douglas the pet squirrel got himself stuck 25 feet up, prompting a full response from the Big White Fire Department in British Columbia. Douglas, raised by local resident Kelly Blair after being found injured as a baby, had never been much of a climber. In fact, the little guy couldn’t even jump properly. So imagine her surprise when, mid-walk, Douglas launched himself into a tree and just… kept right on climbing. After failed ladder rescue attempts, Blair called in the pros. A firefighter climbed up — and Douglas casually leapt onto his shoulder like it was totally normal. (Imagine having to call 911 because your squirrel remembered it’s a squirrel!)
➢ A medical clinic in Scotland is begging locals to stop dropping off random pee samples—especially in things like jam jars. Saltoun Surgery posted on social media that they’ve been “swamped” with urine in non-sterile, household containers, and from now on, they’ll only accept urine samples if a doctor has specifically requested one. Doctors say they need to examine patients before interpreting results, and unexpected samples eat up time, supplies, and lab resources. (Sorry, doc, but after sitting in the waiting room for 3 hours, the jar just happens!)

DID YOU KNOW?
If you’re headed out to watch a movie at an AMC theater, don’t rush. That 7:00pm showing likely won’t start until 7:25 or even 7:30. AMC just added a notice on its site confirming it has signed a deal with National CineMedia to show an additional up to 5 minutes of commercials “after a movie’s official start time,” and an additional 30-to-60-second “Platinum Spot” that plays before the last one or 2 trailers. So grab some popcorn, hit the bathroom, or scroll your phone guilt-free – you’ve got time. Why the change? Money, of course. (Cool! I LOVE paying $18 to watch ads that I skip on YouTube!)

BS CHRONOMETER 07.04.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “U.S. Independence Day”. Also known as the Fourth of July, it takes place on the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, and celebrates the United States and its independence from Great Britain. It is a patriotic holiday extolling themes such as freedom and liberty. (And road trips, fireworks, mattress sales and competitive eating contests!)
• “Barbecue Day”. Almost everyone loves the taste of freshly grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and steak! (So, gather up the gang and celebrate the time-honored tradition of singeing your eyebrows and arm hair…)
• “Country Music Day”, celebrating the roots music movement that began in America with the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, and first-ever commercial country record, Fiddlin’ John Carson’s ‘Little Log Cabin in the Lane’, in 1923. Country is actually a mishmash of several other styles, including folk, Celtic, blues, gospel, hokum, and old-time music. (***See “BS Web Goodie”, below***)
• “Calgary Stampede”, begins, the annual rodeo & 10-day festival, through July 13th in Calgary, Alberta. “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”, attracts over 1 million visitors per year and features one of the world’s largest rodeos, a parade, midway, stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon racing and First Nations exhibitions (and usually the Prime Minister flipping pancakes while wearing chaps…). Some of the more than 100 music acts this year: Shania Twain, Midland, Drake Milligan, Tenille Townes, Yung Gravy, Simple Plan, Natasha Bedingfield, TLC, and more. LINK: https://www.calgarystampede.com
• “Alice in Wonderland Day”, commemorating Lewis Carroll’s first telling of the famous children’s story to his young inspiration, Alice Liddell. It is the day on which Carroll sent his child friend, Alice, down a rabbit hole in his far-fetched tale, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”.
• “Sidewalk Egg Frying Day”. It’s July. It’s summer. It’s hotter than blazes. Why, it’s so hot that you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. Here’s your chance to go ahead and prove it! (What if I wanted it poached?)
• “Invisible Day”. If you could be invisible for just one day, what would you do?
• “Caesar Salad Day”. It’s not named after Julius Caesar. It’s actually named after the chef who created it – Caesar Cardini. He first concocted it at Caesar’s Place Restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico.
• Comic Sans Day”. How did a font get its own holiday? Comic Sans was designed in 1994 when Vincent Connare noticed Times New Roman was being used in word balloons of cartoons in a computer user guide, and thought that was too formal. It has since made its way to just about every place imaginable: from menus to invitations, and from billboards to business signs.

SATURDAY:
• “Graham Cracker Day”, saluting the wafer developed in 1829 by Presbyterian minister Sylvester Graham, who believed consumption of graham flour suppressed “carnal urges”. What’s the best use for graham crackers? Pie crust? S’mores? Moon pies? (Anti-aphrodisiac?)
• “Workaholics Day”, a day to remove your nose from the grindstone … just once. (As Rodney Dangerfield said, “My old man was a workaholic. You mentioned work, he got drunk.”)
• “Bikini Day”, celebrating the July 5, 1946 unveiling of the landmark swimsuit by designer Louis Reard at a Paris press conference, which he described as ‘4 triangles of nothing’. The bikini is named after a tiny Pacific atoll (ring-shaped reef) where the first atomic bomb tests were performed earlier that week.
• “Apple Turnover Day”. Also called “hand pies” because they’re so portable, the pastry is made by placing apple filling on a piece of dough, folding the dough over, sealing it, then baking them. They can also be fried.
• “Mechanical Pencil Day”, created by Cult Pens, after the pen and pencil purveyor noticed there was a “Fountain Pen Day,” but not a day for mechanical pencils. They decided on July 5th because it is written as 7/5 or 5/7. The most common mechanical pencil lead sizes are 0.5mm and 0.7mm.

SUNDAY:
• “Fried Chicken Day”. Don’t know who started it; don’t know why. And who cares? Dig in! (They couldn’t have this on a Fry-day?)
• “International Kissing Day”. International? So, presumably this means that today you can only kiss someone from another country?
• “Air Traffic Control Day”. More than 96,000 highly trained air traffic control specialists provide a vital public service, guiding pilots, their planes and 10 million-plus daily passengers worldwide from taxi to takeoff, through the air, and back safely to the ground (All so we can stand around for 3 hours, waiting for our luggage…)
• “Virtually Hug a Virtual Assistant Day”, saluting those living, breathing people who provide vital services to business owners and individuals everywhere from the comfort of their own home. (Did I just accidentally hug a bot?)
• “Take Your Webmaster to Lunch Day”. Today, you should “Show your appreciation to your webmaster by taking him out for some good food. That way, they will feel loved, and have the energy to fix all the typos on your site.” (Does this sound like it was written by a webmaster?)
• “Umbrella Cover Day”, celebrating those little sleeves that come on new umbrellas. Made of the same material as the umbrella, it’s debatable whether they are critical bits of umbrella apparel, or a waste of material. It is this very ambiguity that has inspired a museum of Umbrella Covers (in Maine) and a record for largest collection – over 2,000. LINK: https://www.umbrellacovermuseum.org/
