★ Nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmys were announced by Harvey Guillén, Brenda Song and Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego yesterday. Apple TV+’s office enigma “Severance” earned the most nominations, while the streamer’s Hollywood satire “The Studio” topped the comedy categories with 23. HBO Max’s dark comic book limited series “The Penguin,” and its biting vacation anthology “The White Lotus” earned 23 and 24 nominations, respectively. Rounding out the front-runners are HBO Max’s post-apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us” and the Disney+ “Star Wars” saga “Andor,” with 16 and 14 nods each.

★ Sarah Jessica Parker is finally confirming relationship rumors that have been swirling for decades. She admitted on “Watch What Happens Live” that she did date her “Honeymoon in Vegas” co-star Nicolas Cage. The pair filmed the flick back in the early ’90s and at the time, were rumored to be dating. After Andy Cohen asked about it, Parker hesitated before answering: “Um, yes I did.” Cohen, who is close friends with Parker, seemed surprised by the admission and joked that they had some talking to do after the show. Shortly after filming wrapped on Honeymoon in Vegas, Parker met her future husband Matthew Broderick.

★ India’s film certification board is facing sharp criticism for censoring a kiss between ‘Superman’ and ‘Lois Lane’ in the theatrical release of James Gunn’s new film. The 33-second scene was removed entirely from the film shown in Indian cinemas by the Central Board of Film Certification, which reportedly deemed it “overly sensual” for the U/A certificate, a rating roughly equivalent to PG-13.

★ Sydney Sweeney might be stepping into the world of fashion — with a reported lingerie line backed by none other than Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez. US Weekly says the “Euphoria” star has been working on the lingerie project for over a year, and it is finally set to launch “very soon.” A source says that that Bezos and Sánchez are not just offering their financial support, but are actively involved as investors in the venture. In 2023, she partnered with Frankies Bikinis to release a swimwear collection.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Beyoncé – Her unreleased music was stolen from a Jeep. Atlanta police say on July 8, cops were called to a market where Bey’s choreographer and a dancer told them they parked their Wagoneer rental, and when they returned, a window had been damaged and 2 suitcases were missing which contained unreleased music, set lists and footage plans for the “Cowboy Carter” tour. No arrests so far.
• Bad Bunny — Following the first weekend of his historic 30-date residency in Puerto Rico, he has delivered the new single ‘Alambre Púa’. It dropped Monday morning after he performed it for 3 nights over the weekend as the opening song for the residency. LINK: https://shorturl.at/ab4Tf
• Britney Spears — Fans waiting for her biopic to hit the big screen might have to wait much longer than they imagined. While rights to “The Woman in Me,” were purchased last year, with “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu signing on, new reports say the project has “come to a grinding halt,” because Spears had issues discussing her past, which prompted “negative thoughts.”
• Adam Levine – is inked almost from head to toe, but now says he’s “done” with tattoos. He spoke to Today.com about making the decision after recently covering his sleeve “with another sleeve”. Quote: “Who does that? What is wrong with me? Psychotic.” Also, “It really hurt. I’m kind of done with the pain.”
• Rob Thomas – The Matchbox 20 singer has released 2 new solo songs ahead of the Sept. 5 release of the album “All Night Days”. It’ll be his first new solo release since 2019’s “Chip Tooth Smile”. The songs available now are ‘Hard to be Happy’ and ‘Thrill Me’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3bw8ut8b
• Rolling Stones – The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new exhibition of guitars has become the center of international intrigue, after a 1959 Les Paul Standard that was stolen from Mick Taylor in the 1970s mysteriously re-surfaced as part of the collection. He bought it from Keith Richards in 1967, but it was stolen in 1972. Taylor says he is mystified as to how his property found its way into the Met’s collection.
• Lady A — will launch their first ever holiday tour on Dec. 5 in Atlanta. The “This Winter’s Night Tour” follows the release of “On This Winter’s Night: Volume 2” on Sept. 26. The tour will feature holiday classics as well as new festive originals from their 2 “On This Winter’s Night” albums.
• Darius Rucker — is sending refunds to an entire crowd after he had to cut a show short in Atlantic City, NJ last weekend. A few songs into his set, his voice was giving out. He apologized to the crowd and promised to make it up to them. Later, he wrote on social media that it wasn’t possible to reschedule, “so we’re issuing full refunds.”
• Chris Stapleton – He and his wife Morgane have donated $1 million to support victims of the devastating Texas floods that happened over Fourth of July weekend. Their charitable fund, Outlaw State of Kind, announced the donation on social media, posting: “Outlaw State of Kind has donated $1 million to support national and local organizations providing flood relief in Texas.” LINK: https://shorturl.at/H3jjA
SHOOTING THE BULL
BIG GULP, BIGGER PROBLEM:
What bugs you most about your vehicle? If it is fairly new, there’s a good chance that your biggest beef with your ship is…the cup holder? Nearly 100,000 drivers of 2025 model cars were asked by J.D. Power about their new car experience, and one of the biggest complaints wasn’t a glitchy touchscreen or annoying speed-warning chimes — it was cup holders. Seriously. “Cup-holder frustration” is on the rise, as carmakers struggle to keep up with the wild variety of bottles, tumblers, and drive-thru sodas that people bring along. Despite all the high-tech features, like adaptive cruise control, ambient lighting, even dog-friendly modes, what really gets people talking is whether there’s enough room for their drink. Cup-holder difficulties ranked third among respondents’ concerns, up from 7th last year. The top complaint was issues with the Infotainment System.

WAISTLINE VITAL SIGN:
Forget the scale – a simple waistline measurement might say more about your future health than your weight ever could. A new study of nearly 11,000 people found that larger waist-to-hip and waist-to-height ratios were strong signs of trouble ahead, especially when it comes to mobility and strength. People with extra belly fat had a harder time with a simple “chair test” — standing up and sitting down 5 times — which signals how well your body may age. Even after accounting for diet, smoking, and exercise, the connection held. The most telling number? Waist-to-height ratio. The Italian researchers say that if your waist is more than half your height, it might be time for action. Unlike your genes, your waist size is something you can control — making it one of the best tools for predicting how well you’ll move, function, and stay independent as you get older.
(Good news—if I wear my pants high enough, my waist-to-height ratio is perfect. And if I go full grandpa-pants, I’ll live forever!)
(OK, OK, I’ll measure my waist – just as soon as I can find it…)

A.I.: A’IGHT?
⇒ We hear a lot about AI stealing jobs and stressing people out—but a new 20-year study tells a different story. Researchers followed 18,500 German workers and found those in AI-heavy roles actually reported better health and steady job and life satisfaction. No spikes in stress, anxiety, or job insecurity. As it turns out, AI might be helping more than hurting — by taking over tedious or physically demanding tasks, like lifting boxes or filling out paperwork. Workers even reported shaving an average of 30 minutes off their workweek without losing pay. The key? Germany’s strong worker protections. So, maybe AI’s future at work isn’t doom and gloom after all. (AI is helping at work? Great. Now if it could just deal with Kendra in HR for me too…)
⇒ Wegmans is rolling out some high-tech help for your grocery run. At 4 stores in upstate New York, the grocery chain is testing AI-powered “Caper Carts” from Instacart. They are smart shopping carts that scan items as you toss them in, tracking your spending in real time – and they even let you pay right from the cart. That means no more checkout lines or end-of-trip sticker shock. The carts use cameras, sensors, and a built-in screen to make shopping faster and easier. Just log in with your Shoppers Club account and start bagging as you go. It’s like having a self-checkout lane that follows you around the store. (They had me at “no more checkout lines”!)

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ‘KRYPTO’ (Superman’s dog):
‘Krypto’ is a CGI flying white mutt who dons a red cape to match the Man of Steel’s in the new “Superman” movie. Here are some surprising and sweet things to know about the furry scene stealer – who first appeared in DC Comics in 1955 . . .
❑ James Gunn’s actual rescue dog served as the 3D model for Krypto: The director told The New York Times that his greyish pup, named ‘Ozu”, became the physical model for the computer-generated super-pet.
❑ Krypto isn’t really a “good dog” – but that’s not a bad thing: Ozu “came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings,” Gunn wrote on social media. He also said that at first, his dog “was problematic to say the least.” Krypto maintains the decidedly unruly nature of the dog upon which he is based, a funny foil to Superman’s (David Corenswet) kind and composed comportment. (So, just like many other actors, he has main character energy and behavioral issues!)
❑ This isn’t the last time we’ll be seeing Krypto on the big screen: Near the end of the film, we learn that Superman’s cousin ‘Supergirl’ (played by “Sirens” star Milly Alcock) is the actual owner of Krypto. Alcock is set to star in a “Supergirl” film out next year. And we’re willing to bet that Krypto will be along for the ride. (I can’t wait for Supergirl’s super-chaotic sidekick to save the day — and probably pee on something important!)

DID YOU KNOW?
If you’ve noticed your cat usually sleeps on its left side, it’s not a coincidence. A new international study found that about two-thirds of cats prefer sleeping on their left side. Researchers concluded that this may be a clever evolutionary strategy. The right hemisphere of the brain, which is associated with spatial awareness, threat processing, and rapid escape movements, is more engaged when a cat sleeps on its left side. This means that when a cat wakes up from a left-side sleep, its left visual field is directly facing its surroundings, allowing for a quicker assessment of potential threats or opportunities. (OK, now explain why my cat also sleeps on a pile of tortillas, in the bathroom sink, and once – somehow — inside a spaghetti pot.)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Fresh Spinach Day”, an occasion to make use of some healthful leafy greens in your favorite recipes. Spinach & sharp cheese omelet, anyone? (My jokes are like spinach…they were probably already forced on you as a child!)
• “World Snake Day”, a celebration by wildlife enthusiasts of the age-old fascination with these beautiful but misunderstood creatures. (Snakes are so creepy that even snakes are afraid of snakes…)
• “Guinea Pig Appreciation Day”, as far as small fuzzies go, the Guinea Pig is certainly one of the world’s favorites. Domesticated in South America thousands of years ago, they’re one of the longest-serving human companions. (Be sure to keep them away from those snakes!)
• “Personal Chefs Day”, an annual reminder to consider hiring a private chef for a day, a unique way to entertain friends or business guests in your home. It’s not as costly as you might think. (Funny enough, there is also a Personal Chef Day in February. Was this part of the contract?)
• “Corn Fritter Day”, a celebration of comfort food and simple cooking. With some corn, egg, flour, milk, and melted butter, anyone can throw together a batch of these side dish favorites. Plus, you can add your own favorite ingredients to spice them up, or create your very own fritter monstrosity. Sardines and chocolate chips, anyone?
• “National Hot Dog Day”. Hot dogs gained in popularity in the US in the early 20th century, traditionally sold at hot dog stands and carts, and were especially popular in New York and Chicago. They have become a prominent part of American culture, and are closely associated with baseball. (So much so, that a hotshot player is often referred to as a “hot dog”!)
• “Cherry Day”, some fun facts about cherries…
– Cherry trees are so fruitful that they can produce as many as 28 pies.
– Cherries can be sweet or sour.
– Around 94% of all cherries ingested in the United States are produced in Michigan.
– Cherry pits contain toxins and should not be consumed.
– There are over 1000 distinct cherry varieties, both sweet and sour, but only 20% are used commercially.
