BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jason Momoa happened to be at the right place at the right time over the weekend. He’s been in Wisconsin while getting ready for a performance with his band, ÖOF TATATÁ, at the Harley-Davidson Homecoming Festival. And while out on the town on Friday night, he found himself in the middle of a scene where a single car accident had just occurred. Video taken by passersby shows Momoa stepping in to see if there was anything he could do to help. Fortunately, officers appeared to have the situation covered, but Momoa remained close by while the scene unfolded. Reports say the driver was transported to a hospital.

★ Vanessa Hudgens is going to be a mom of 2. The “High School Musical” star announced Saturday she and her husband, Cole Tucker, are expecting again, by posting several adorable maternity shots. She let the excitement on her face do all the talking, simply captioning her post: “Round two!!!!” The actress and former professional baseball player welcomed their first child in July 2024 after she debuted her pregnancy on the Oscars red carpet in March. ★ It’s not a bird or a plane — it’s the latest ‘Superman’ movie, which soared towards the top of the box office. Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Superman”, based on the 1938 comic book character, which began as a film series in 1978, grossed a projected nearly $125 million domestically for the weekend. Early estimates had the James Gunn-directed movie earning around $90 million, but the movie was well-received by audiences and critics, with an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 95% on the site’s Popcornmeter, boosting the opening forecast over the course of the weekend.

★ Bryan Cranston has made his position clear regarding the ongoing funding challenges facing indie movie “Lone Wolf.” The “Breaking Bad” star said he won’t return to finish filming or promote the feature until all cast and crew that are owed money are paid back in full. A “distressed” Cranston, who himself has been paid for his work to date, said he has spoken to multiple co-stars who are still owed money.

★ After 40 years, 3 cancellations, and a ton of drama, the cast and crew of the Amazon Prime soap opera “Neighbours” have wrapped production for what appears to be the last time. The showrunner encourages fans to stay tuned, because while the show may be ending, quote: “We have a big 5 months of Neighbours still to air. We absolutely are not slowing down story-wise.” The final episode, number 9,363, is set to stream on December 11.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Bieber – Friday, he surprise-released his new album “Swag,” after teasing it by posting his album cover on billboards around the world. It’s his first in 4 years. Rolling Stone gave the album 4 stars, lauding Bieber for covering a wide range of musical ground. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3zye6k7s
• Beyoncé – has switched out her onstage red convertible – for a horse. Footage from her Thursday show in Atlanta shows her singing ‘16 Carriages’ while suspended above the audience – aboard a gold mechanical horse. This change comes after Bey experienced a stage malfunction in Houston, when the red convertible she was sitting in began to slant, and eventually tilted midair.
• Kelly Clarkson — apologized onstage to fans on Friday after canceling what was supposed to be the kickoff for her Las Vegas residency last weekend. She said “sorry” to those who had tickets for the shows, but she was unable to perform because she felt sick, and was devastated about postponing the first shows of her “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions” residency in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
• Velvet Sundown – The indie rock band with more than a million monthly listeners on Spotify has owned up to being — AI-generated, following days of speculation about whether the group is real. An updated Spotify profile says the group is an “ongoing artistic provocation”, and “all…music, voices and lyrics are original creations generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence.”
• Jeff Lynne‘s ELO — canceled its Sunday performance at BST Hyde Park in London after doctors advised frontman Lynne, who is “battling a systemic infection,” that taking the stage is “simply not possible.” The show was billed as the group’s final concert ever, following its North American farewell tour.
• Mötley Crüe — Nikki Sixx has revealed his band didn’t appear at Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s “Back to The Beginning” farewell show due to “health issues within the band.” He didn’t specify which member, but they postponed a Vegas residency in the Spring in order to allow singer Vince Neil time to recover from an unspecified medical procedure.
• Scotty McCreery — is mourning the loss of both of his grandmothers, following their deaths on the same day. He posted that his maternal grandmother, Janet Hunter Cooke, and his paternal grandmother, Paquita McCreery, both passed away last Wednesday at ages 85 and 93, respectively. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ycxn65hd
• Keith Urban – has definitely won his share of awards, but in an interesting twist, he doesn’t display them in his home. In a new interview, he revealed that he mails most of the awards he wins to…his mom. The only exception is his most recent ACM Triple Crown Award, which he proudly displays “on the piano in the middle of the living room.”
• George Strait – has announced that he is putting on an “intimate donor dinner and concert” on July 27 in Boerne TX, to raise money for those affected by the July 4 flood that left over 100 dead. The event will also feature William Beckmann, Ray Benson, Wade Bowen, Dean Dillon, Riley Green, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Kyle Park and Hudson Westbrook. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/8ns465jt
• Dolly Parton – has put songwriting “on hold” since the death of her husband Carl Dean in March. On Khloé Kardashian’s “Khloé in Wonder Land” podcast, Parton said: “Several things I’ve wanted to start, but I can’t do it. I will later, but I’m just coming up with such wonderful, beautiful ideas.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

IS WORKING OUT WORKING OUT FOR YOU?
► If you dread working out, you’re not alone — and the answer might not be to try harder, but to try smarter. A new study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology suggests that matching your workouts to your personality could make all the difference. Extroverts tend to thrive in high-energy group classes or team sports, while more introverted or anxious types prefer solo, low-pressure activities, with built-in breaks. People who are more conscientious often stick with well-rounded routines simply because they know it’s good for them. The bottom line? The key to enjoying exercise may be finding a style that suits you, not squeezing yourself into someone else’s fitness mold. (This just in: A group of introverts have invented a workout called “Napercise”!)
► New research shows the connection between exercise and mental health isn’t as simple as we thought. Yes, hitting the gym or playing sports in your free time is often linked to less anxiety and depression — but doing chores or physical labor for work doesn’t seem to offer the same benefits, and in some cases, it might even make things worse. The study, published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, concluded that while exercise can be good for your mental health, it’s not a cure-all. And other factors related to exercise, such as group settings and supportive programs, play a huge role in whether exercise helps. (I know they SAY exercise is good for my mental health, but I get absolutely no benefit from contorting myself into weird positions in front of strangers while wearing too-tight shorts!)

TECH TALK:
❑ Back in the early 2000s, you were either Team LimeWire or Team Napster — both let you download free music, usually illegally. Napster was eventually hit with multiple lawsuits that shut it down. Fast forward to today: Napster’s back — but it has ditched the MP3s. Under new ownership, it has been relaunched as a “conversational AI platform”. The site consists of a number of “AI companions” that are trained to be experts in various topics like medicine, public policy, architecture and engineering. The company said it utilized AI models from OpenAI and Gemini to make a new “large persona model” that is trained on 30 different psychometric characteristics. (Napster: from file sharing to oversharing…)
❑ Just as many of us are getting over the fact that the viral music group Velvet Sundown turned out to be an AI creation, a new music competition has been announced, that concentrates only on AI-generated music. The Future Sound Awards aim to celebrate songs created with the help of artificial intelligence. Backed by the World AI Creator Awards and organized by Fanvue, the contest invites musicians to submit original, AI-assisted tracks using a fully traceable, rights-cleared audio library provided by TwoShot. Entries are free and judged on vocals, lyrics, creativity, and process — but no copyrighted material allowed. Winners can earn up to $7,000 and gain exposure to industry insiders. The goal, the Future Sounds Awards creators say, is to spotlight AI’s creative potential, while keeping a human touch. (And the award for “Most Emotionless Ballad” goes to…)

TOP “FEEL GOOD” WELLNESS ACTIVITIES:
A new survey of 2,000 people, explored the health approaches and habits that really make a difference in how we feel – on the inside. 77% of respondents said that these days, they prioritize what FEELS good over what makes them LOOK good. Along their wellness journey, many have also actively given up habits that they feel contribute to feeling worse in the long run. Mindless snacking while watching TV (28%), staying up late for no reason (27%) and eating ultra-processed foods (26%) are some of the most common habits people said they’d like to quit doing. And many are incorporating small habits that make them feel good and build long-term wellness. Here are the top 10…
1. Prioritizing sleep (50%)
2. Cooking or eating meals that nourish me (49%)
3. Moving my body in a way that feels good [stretching, walking, dancing…] (44%)
4. Saying no to things that drain me (38%)
5. Connecting with friends or loved ones in person (38%)
6. Spending time in nature (35%)
7. Taking breaks from screens and social media (32%)
8. Taking a daily probiotic or supplement (31%)
9. Prioritizing gut health (28%)
10. Practicing mindfulness [meditation, breathwork…] (22%)
(Hey! If you’re prioritizing what feels good over what makes you look good, you can’t discount the power of a baconburger and a beer!)
(For me, “Moving my body in a way that feels good” equals “Dance-walking to the fridge”!)

DID YOU KNOW?
French Olympic fencer Ysaora Thibus was cleared of a doping allegation after successfully arguing that the banned substance she tested positive for had entered her system by kissing her partner over 9 days. The Court of Arbitration for Sport had challenged the explanation that Thibus was contaminated “through kissing with her then partner, who had been using a product containing ostarine without her knowledge.” (Kissing her partner over 9 days? I don’t know if she’s a good fencer – but apparently, she could have a bright future in “endurance kissing”!)

BS CHRONOMETER 07.14.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “The Happiest Day of the Year”, as calculated by the UK’s Dr Cliff Arnall. He decided that July 14th is the cheeriest day of the year by using a simple formula that includes the good weather and extra daylight hours enjoyed today, and recent beginning of school summer holidays. Other research has given the “happiest day” designation to June 20, but if the doctor says it’s today, we’ll take it!
• “Bastille Day”, the national holiday in France that commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789, when patriots stormed the Bastille prison. (“Off with their heads!”)
• “Grand Marnier Day”, celebrating the cognac concoction that’s used in mixed drinks (ie: Cosmopolitan) and in desserts (ie: Crêpe Suzette). It was an 1880s French invention by one Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle.
• “International Non-Binary People’s Day”, to raise awareness of the issues faced by non-binary people. The day was first celebrated in 2012, and the date was chosen for being precisely between International Men’s Day and International Women’s Day.
• “Shark Awareness Day”, to point out that these magnificent creatures are more threatened by people than people are by sharks. Demand for shark-fin soup and shark-tooth medallions combine to make sharks endangered, with millions killed each year. (“Shark Week” on Discovery begins July 20!)
• “Nude Day”, a serious celebration of the ‘naturist’ lifestyle. (Then why does everyone laugh if they see me naked?)
• “Tape Measure Day”, a great day to bust out the tape measure, buy a new one, or give one as a gift. There’s definitely one nestled in your toolkit or crammed in the back of a junk drawer. (Are you smirking just a bit at the fact that Tape Measure Day falls on the same date as Nude Day?)
• “Mac & Cheese Day”, an annual salute to the cheap food that we couldn’t have made it through college without. In Canada, the most popular brand is known as “Kraft Dinner”. In the US and Australia, it’s called “Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Dinner” or “Mac & Cheese”, and in the UK, it’s “Macaroni Cheese” or “Cheesey Pasta”. (Ketchup on it, or no? Go!)
• “Pandemonium Day”, a day to embrace and even celebrate the pandemonium that often seems to surround us. (AKA – “Kid’s Day”!)
