Hey! New Sheets!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Wendy Williams’ guardian has hit back at the former talk show host’s recent claims likening her assisted living facility to a “prison”, calling them “untrue, inaccurate, incomplete or misleading.” Sabrina Morrissey’s lawyer denied Williams’ allegation that she isn’t allowed visitors in her New York City facility. The legal rep claimed Williams can call and see her family whenever she wants, and pointed her 2 recent trips to Florida, for her son’s college graduation and her father’s birthday. The lawyer said the facility offers “excellent medical care, a spa, a workout room, excellent food, a dining room and outside terraces.” Williams, however, called in to “Good Day New York” Tuesday, claiming she has to “be permitted” to use these perks. She’s scheduled to appear on “The View” tomorrow.

★ “Leaving Neverland” director Dan Reed is planning on making a third installment to document the forthcoming trial of Michael Jackson accusers Wade Robson and James Safechuck against the late pop star’s companies. Reed is already following up his bombshell 2019 docuseries — in which Robson and Safechuck alleged that Jackson sexually abused them as children — with the sequel “Leaving Neverland 2: Surviving Michael Jackson,” which premieres March 18. It primarily focuses on Robson and Safechuck’s fight to have their day in court after suing Jackson’s companies, for neglecting to protect them from the alleged abuse. Reed said he he’ll be in the courtroom with his camera and a crew” if the case does go to court.

★ Scarlett Johansson is headlining “Jurassic World Rebirth” alongside Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey, opening this summer. And its success could also give ScarJo yet another mega-franchise after her tenure as ‘Black Widow’ in the MCU. Johansson’s superhero was killed off in “Avengers: Endgame,” and then she went on to headline the prequel “Black Widow.” And according to her, that marked her last MCU appearance. She said to InStyle: “Natasha is dead. She is dead, OK? (Fans) just don’t want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!’ Look…She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”

★ A remake of Stephen King’s “Cujo” is in the works at Netflix, an insider says. “Barbarian” producer Roy Lee is aboard, and a writer is currently being sought. King’s original 1981 novel centers on a mother and son who are trapped in a hot car and are being terrorized by a rabid 200-pound St. Bernard. A film adaptation arrived in 1983 which was directed by Lewis Teague and starred Dee Wallace, Daniel Hugh Kelly and Danny Pintauro.

★ Jack Quaid appeared at the LA Clippers game on Sunday to promote his new film “Novocaine”, sporting a slew of fake injuries that got worse as the game went on. In the movie, Quaid stars as a bank executive who can not feel pain due to a genetic condition. When his co-worker and love interest, is kidnapped, he must use his “super power” to rescue her. During Quaid’s NBA courtside appearance, the actor became progressively more injured each time the camera panned to him. In a video posted to X, he first appeared with a black eye, a bloody nose and his arm in a sling. Later, he appears with co-star Amber Midthunder, talking about how excited they are to be at the game. This time, he’s wearing a neck brace, a new arm cast and has fresh bruises on his face. At the end, a caption reads, “Someone get Novocaine to a hospital,” as Quaid appears again, now with a head bandage and a second arm cast. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdfhe7fy

THERE’S AN APP FOR THESE:
► An app that lets you hire armed security guards to escort you anywhere you go is now available. “Protector”, nicknamed ‘Uber for bodyguards’ – allows users to simply click to call upon active or retired military, SWAT, and police officers to report for duty. Membership costs $129 annually, and services start at $200 per hour, with a minimum 5-hour booking. Protector’s bosses published a video on X showing how the protection team could have stopped alleged killer Luigi Mangione. CEO and founder, Nick Sarath, said: “We rely on law enforcement to keep us safe, but they cannot be everywhere at once.” (Alright! Now, for just $200 an hour, I can feel like a VIP—minus the talent and fame!)
► It’s important for those who spend hour after hour each day in front of screens to go “touch grass,” an internet slang term that means participating in activities in the real world, as opposed to online. And now, there’s an app that will quite literally make you touch grass before you can scroll again. “Touch Grass” asks you to select 2 apps that you find to be the most distracting or time-consuming – and then it blocks them. The only way to unlock your apps is to take a picture of yourself outside — literally touching grass, and upload it to Touch Grass. Then, you can choose how much time you have on each app until you must go outside and ‘touch grass’ again. (Great, now I’m going to be that person who takes awkward selfies standing on his lawn!)

DIGEST THIS INFO:
❑ Harvard researchers say that they’ve discovered that those who eat butter have a 15% higher risk of death, and by replacing 2 teaspoons of butter daily with plant oils (olive, soybean, canola oils…), you could cut your risk of death by 17%. Interestingly, using butter in baking showed no significant death risks, while butter spread directly on foods was linked to higher mortality. (Would it help if I spread butter on olive oil, on my dinner roll?)
❑ While an apple a day might keep the doctor away, research shows an orange a day might keep the blues at bay. Harvard Medical School researchers found that those who consumed a lot of citrus were much less likely to develop depression than those who didn’t. In their study of 30,000 women, they determined that “eating one medium orange a day may lower the risk of developing depression by about 20%”. Head researcher Dr. Raaj Mehta said: “There’s such a huge unmet need for depression treatments, and eating citrus doesn’t really have any major side effects.” (So – oranges might help when life gives you lemons?)

GUINNESS WEIRD RECORDS:
→ Lalit Patidar broke a record for being different—and he’s embracing it. The 18-year-old now has the Guiness World Record for hairiest face, with an official count of 201.72 hairs per square cm. Lalit, from India, has Hypertrichosis—a rare condition described as, “excessive hair growth anywhere on the body.” He shared the news in an Instagram post that shows him posing with the Guinness certificate, and the caption: “Proud of me.” The YouTube personality is one of 50 people worldwide who have been confirmed to have the condition since the since the Middle Ages. → A dedicated gamer broke a Guinness World Record by beating the classic Super Mario Bros. video game with a time of 4 minutes and 54.565 seconds. Niftski, an American gamer with multiple speedrunning records to his name, said achieving the record-breaking time was the result of years of playing the Nintendo Entertainment System game — and hours of refining his technique to include every possible trick to shave off costly milliseconds. THE 100 GREATEST TV PERFORMANCES OF THE 21ST CENTURY:
1. Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer, “Veep” 2012-19: Who else could it be? Over 7 seasons, Louis-Dreyfus delivered the signature comedy performance of the century so far, and did so with such focused intensity that it was easy to forget that “Veep” was a comedy at all.
2. Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy, “Succession” 2018-23: His work on “Succession” converted it from a chamber drama into something grander, more bizarre and more elementally human.
3. Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson, “Mad Men” 2007-15: Where she began, naive and disempowered, seemed entirely disconnected from where she ended up — and yet Moss, showing flashes of steel underpinning her pleasant, soft-spoken exterior, made it all make sense.
4. Lisa Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, “The Comeback” 2005, 2014: Valerie was a Hollywood monster, but her dream was to be truly seen and understood. Kudrow made that desire evident in every wince, every false smile and — yes — every petty humiliation.
5. Bryan Cranston as Walter White, “Breaking Bad” 2008-13: Cranston’s larger-than-life portrayal of the chemistry teacher turned meth kingpin kept fans with him long after he’d gone evil.
6. Michael Kenneth Williams as Omar Little, “The Wire” 2002-08: Almost always dressed in black with a shotgun swinging from his side, he was both mystifying and disquieting, an amalgam of violence and poverty who always appeared just a bit untouchable.
7. Carrie Coon as Nora Durst, “The Leftovers” 2014-17: Coon found pathos and, crucially, texture within her character’s unremitting grief.
8. Andre Braugher as Capt. Raymond Holt, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” 2013-21: He brought his Juilliard-trained gravitas to the part, but he also infused it with an unexpected playfulness and an acerbic delivery that elicited some of the show’s biggest laughs.
9. Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler, “Better Call Saul” 2015-22: In a show full of dramatic deaths and marches toward sealed fates, it was Wexler’s slow moral decay that was the most devastating.
10. Sandra Oh as Dr. Cristina Yang, “Grey’s Anatomy” 2005-2014: Brilliant, deeply loyal and viciously competitive: There had never been someone like Cristina Yang on television before.

DID YOU KNOW?
Scientists say they’ve come up with a new compound that provides the pain-relieving properties of cannabis — without the mind-bending side effects. The research team from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Stanford University developed the compound that mimics a natural molecule found in the cannabis plant, in their quest to find a safe alternative painkiller to opioids. In tests on mice, it was found to provide the same pain-relieving properties of cannabis without causing addiction or mind-altering side effects. Further research is needed, but the compound shows “promise” as a non-addictive pain reliever. (The scientists are reportedly thrilled. The mice? Not so much…!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Good Samaritan Day”. On this date in 1964, Queens NY bar manager Kitty Genovese was stabbed to death while 38 people looked the other way, not wanting to get involved. Since then, every US state and many other countries have enacted Good Samaritan laws in some form or another.
• “Donald Duck Day”, marking the cartoon character’s debut on this day in 1934 as a bit player in the Walt Disney cartoon “The Little Wise Hen”. Donald Duck is the most published comic book character in the world, outside of the superhero genre. (For some reason, there is also A “Donald Duck Day” in June.)
• “Chicken Noodle Soup Day”, one of the best-smelling holidays I can think of!
• “Open an Umbrella Indoors Day”, when celebrants are encouraged to challenge the old superstition and note whether any bad luck befalls them. The superstition can be traced to the 11th century BC.
• “Ginger Ale Day”, saluting the carbonated soft drink flavoured with ginger, and consumed on its own or as a mixer. There are 2 main types: The golden style, credited to Irish doctor Thomas Joseph Cantrell, and the dry style, with a much milder ginger flavour, created by Canadian John McLaughlin.
• “Popcorn Lovers Day”. Popcorn is good for you, when eaten plain. It’s not quite so healthy when it’s loaded with salt and butter. (But all that butter and salt is why I’m eating it…)
• “Earmuffs Day”, celebrating the first ‘Earmuffs’ patent by Chester Greenwood of Farmington, Maine on this day in 1877.
• “Ken Day”, celebrating the Ken doll, whose full name is Kenneth Carson. He was named after Ken Handler, the son of Ruth and Elliot Handler. They were 2 of the founders of Mattel, and it was Ruth who invented the Barbie Doll.
• “K-9 Veterans Day”, honoring all dogs who have served in the military. The US Army launched its ‘K-9 Corps’ 83 years ago today (1942).
