BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Ben Affleck toyed with the paparazzi Wednesday, by hiding his ring finger while picking up his son from school in LA. As the photogs trained their cameras on his left hand, Affleck mischievously hid it in his sweater, while sporting a wide grin. Amid rumors of a split with Jennifer Lopez, Affleck has flipped back and forth over the last few weeks, sometimes wearing his wedding ring and sometimes not. Meanwhile, J Lo was in Mexico at a panel for her new movie, “Atlas,” and when a reporter dared to ask about her marriage status, she shut him down, leaning forward, and telling him: “You know better than that”.

★ The company Riley Keough accused of trying to defraud her family into selling Graceland has dropped all claims on the property. Hours after a Tennessee judge blocked Naussany Investments and Private Lending from unloading the legendary property in a foreclosure sale, an attorney for Keough “received an email…confirming they do not intend to move forward with their claim,” a Graceland rep said. Monday, Keough filed suit against the company, calling the foreclosure sale “fraudulent”. The company claimed that Lisa Marie Presley had put Graceland up as sucurity for a loan, but Keough claimed Lisa Marie’s signatures were forged.

★ Pitbull has responded on social media about his 2011 hit song being featured in one of the hot and steamy scenes in “Bridgerton” Season 3. He wrote on X: “This again shows the world how music is the international language that transcends over boundaries, moreso how a hit song can remain timeless.  “Thank you @bridgerton and @netflix for the opportunity!” The orchestral version of ‘Give Me Everything’ is played during the nearly 3-minute scene. Bridgerton’s official account on X responded, naming him “Lord Worldwide”.

★ Hugh Jackman committed to playing ‘Wolverine’ in a third “Deadpool” movie before even letting his agent know. Jackman told Fandango that his decision to play the character again after it was killed off in 2017’s “Logan”, was made while driving when, quote: “literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan (Reynolds)”. Jackman said that ever since he saw the first “Deadpool” film, he knew the 2 characters should be together. So, as soon as he could, he called Reynolds and said “Let’s do it.” Next: “I had to ring my agent and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie.’”

★ Will audiences be “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” on Broadway? Fitness pioneer Richard Simmons, who has been reclusive for the past decade, is putting together a show for the Great White Way. He posted on Facebook that he and a friend “who is an attorney and manages famous artists in music” are planning “an interactive Broadway show” about his life. The show would create an open space near the stage where theater-goers could join in on workout dance numbers. The 75-year-old said: “I have so many ideas and I’m writing them all down … Broadway is in my blood!”

TIKTOK TALK:
When TikTok was launched in 2017, it was marketed as an app for sharing short-form videos. And the clips were definitely short – the limit was 15 seconds. But the time limit has gradually increased since then, and now, TikTok is testing 60-minute videos. That’s right, it has been reported that some users in select markets can now upload TikToks that are one-hour long! The thinking is that TikTok has been slowly allowing longer and longer videos in an effort to better compete with YouTube — and to give creators a longer leash in order to do what they do — creative. The new 60-minute limit could also allow for more full episodes of TV shows to appear in your feed.
(I never thought I’d see my parents crowded together in front of a tablet watching TikTok videos. But the minute that full episodes of “Columbo” become available, I’m pretty sure they will!)
(That’s ALL my wife needs…encouragement to spend the remaining 3 waking hours that she’s not on TikTok – on TikTok!)

WINE NOT:
This is a “good news” story – especially if you’re a wine drinker. A new survey asked “How much joy do you experience every month?” And the results were surprisingly positive. The poll of 2,000 American wine drinkers found the average person has 10 “extraordinary” days each month. That adds up to 120 every year. And when asked what exactly defines a joyful life, the top answer, agreed upon by 77% of respondents, was ‘feeling happy’. That was followed by ‘being healthy’ (71%), having ‘positive personal and family relationships’ (69%), and ‘feeling comfortable’ (69%). The survey, commissioned…you guessed it…by a wine maker, also asked how often people like to treat themselves. It found people are most likely to treat themselves to something nice on their birthday (66%). Other believe they should treat themselves while on vacation (59%,) or if they’re simply having a good day (48%).
(Or, you could be like me. I believe that I should treat myself anytime we have snacks on hand – before my kids get to them!)
(10 extraordinary days per month? I’ve got a feeling that the wine drinkers are hogging all the joy these days!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A football (soccer) referee has been suspended for life for celebrating with a club that he helped to victory. Dutch football clubs St. George and SV De Valken met in a final match of the country’s 4th division to decide which team would be promoted to the 3rd. During the game, ref Jan Smit showed 3 red cards to SV De Valken players and another to the coach, and let the game go an extra 15 minutes. Then, as soon as St. George scored the equalizer necessary to guarantee the club’s promotion, Smit whistled the end of the game. A clip circulated later of St. George players celebrating alongside Smit, who was seen laughing and singing with the winners — and even lifting the trophy. The Royal Dutch Football Association soon released a statement, indicating he had been banned, and saying “We expect a neutral attitude from a referee and that both teams are treated with respect. His attitude, of course, was not indicative of that.” (He won’t be refereeing any more, but we understand he’s been offered a job deflating footballs for the Patriots!)
➢ The Japanese eating legend who won 6 consecutive Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contests is retiring — because he literally no longer has the hunger to compete. 46-year-old Takeru Kobayashi made the announcement in the new Netflix documentary “Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut” after doctors discovered his brain had become repelled by highly processed foods. Kobayashi spent more than 2 decades chowing down on hot dogs and other junky food, with his enormous appetite earning him fame and up to $650,000 per year. But in recent years, his appetite started to wane — and he now doesn’t feel hunger at all, and once went 3 days without eating. (He’s currently shopping around his idea for a “competitive starving” reality show!)

DID YOU KNOW?

The new brand, named “Vital Pursuit”, will have an initial lineup of 12 items, including frozen bowls, sandwich melts and pizzas. The products will include one or more essential nutrients, like protein, calcium or iron. The company plans to sell Vital Pursuit items for $4.99 or less, and offer gluten-free options, beginning later this year. Roughly 1 in 8 adults in the US has used a weight-loss drug at some point, according to a recent survey.

BS CHRONOMETER 05.24.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Asparagus Day”, honoring the only ‘spears’ most of us ever eat. Essayist Marcel Proust wrote in the late 1800s that asparagus “transforms my chamber-pot into a flask of perfume.” (Someone needs to get his nose checked!)
• “Brothers Day”, a day to give yours a quick punch on the arm … just to let ’em know you care.
• “Escargot Day”, celebrating the gourmet food you can harvest off your driveway. (How come we’ll eat snails — but not slugs? Aren’t they the same thing?)
• “International Tiara Day”, a day for women to celebrate their leadership powers. Real or virtual tiara-wearing is optional.
• “Scavenger Hunt Day”, a game where individuals or teams compete to find items or perform tasks provided to them as a list by the organizers of the game. (My friend’s mom kicked me out of the birthday party when I’d clearly won the scavenger hunt. She was all like “I don’t care how many vultures you shot, get those things out of here!”)
• “Don’t Fry Day”, also known as “Heat Awareness Day”, “to encourage employers and workers to recognize the warning signs for heat illness and keep workers safe.” But it raises awareness about the dangers of heat for everyone. (Thank goodness. I thought it was a day telling me not to have French Fries!)
• “National Road Trip Day”, observed on the Friday before Memorial Day in the US, and the official kickoff of the summer road trip season. 63% of road trippers say that having good music, audiobooks, and/or podcasts to listen to are the most important parts of a successful road trip. (We think the most important thing is having a dad who owns a gas station…)
• “Title Track Day”, a day to listen only to title tracks, whether from a record, CD, mp3, the radio, or a streaming service. Some of the best: ‘Let It Be’ by The Beatles, ‘L.A. Woman’ by The Doors, Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ and Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’.  (***Add to the list!***)

SATURDAY:
• “Geek Pride Day”, a day for sci-fi fans and techno-nerds to stand tall. The date coincides with the 1977 release of the first “Star Wars” movie. What is a geek? The Geek Pride Organization says ‘you know one when you see one’. (I already knew this, because I had it circled on my “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” calendar…)
• “International Missing Children’s Day”, promoting awareness of the problem and, hi-lighting safety tips for kids and parents. We’re encouraged to turn on our porch lights as a way to show hope for missing kids, and support for their families.
• “African Liberation Day”, when many African countries celebrate the hard-fought achievement of their freedom from European colonial powers. It was founded in 1958 and coincides with the African Union’s “Africa Day”.
• “Tap Dance Day”, honoring the birthday of Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson, ‘King of Tap Dancers’, in 1878. (***Caution***I wonder if tap dancers look at a floor and think “I’d tap that!”)
• “Brown Bag-It Day”. Taking your lunch to work or school is an effective way to save money and to ensure you and your family are eating healthy (and a great way to smuggle all of the cookies out of the house for yourself!). [And yes, last Thursday was “Brown Bag-It Thursday…”]
• “Wine Day”. In moderation, wine not only fights heart disease, it can also help with high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, stroke, reduce risk of some cancers, and even fight depression. In general, red wines are healthier than white wines. (Really, ANY day is wine day!)

SUNDAY:
• “Paper Airplane Day”, an unofficial observance honoring the simple aeronautical toy anyone can make. (Just remember: Once you throw a paper airplane, it’s no longer stationary!)
• “Blueberry Cheesecake Day”. Well, okay … if we have to!
• “World Dracula Day”, Bram Stoker’s Gothic horror novel “Dracula” was first published on this date in 1897. According to legend, the character may have been based on Stoker’s horrible boss.
• “Sally Ride Day”. The first American woman in space, Sally Ride, is a role model for young people, particularly for girls and those interested in science and space. At the time of her first flight, Ride, at 32, was also the youngest US astronaut to travel in space.
• “World Redhead Day”, Some “Whack Redhead Facts”:
⇒ Less than 2% of the population has red hair.
⇒ Red hair is thicker than other colors, and harder to dye.
⇒ Redheads are more sensitive to hot and cold, and sometimes to pain. But other studies say they are LESS sensitive to pain. Either way, they need about 20% more anesthesia to be sedated.
⇒ Redheads are more likely to be left-handed.
⇒ Contrary to some reports, red hair is NOT dye-ing out (sorry for the pun!). Although their numbers are decreasing, they are not in danger of extinction.
⇒ Redheaded women have more sex…according to Cosmo.

MORE BS LAWS OF GOLF:
• The more expensive the golf ball, the greater its attraction to water.
• Golf carts always run out of juice at the farthest point from the clubhouse.
• Any ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is definitely not yours.
• A good golf partner is one who’s a slightly worse player than you are.

• An extra ball in the pocket is worth 2 strokes in the bush.

• You can put ‘draw’ on a ball, you can put ‘fade’ on a ball, but no golfer can put ‘straight’ on a ball.
• Golf balls are like eggs. They’re white; sold by the dozen; and you need to buy fresh ones each week.
